Try to completely remove your nvidia drivers from your system:
sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
Remove your xorg.conf
sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Reinstall xorg completely

My computer has a Nvidia Zotac 6200 Graphics Card. It seems that windows runs snappy whereas Ubuntu runs slower.Both are Fresh Installs. It was more faster when it was running 10.04.

Take a look at dnsmasq instead, is pretty far more easy to configure than bind: you just need to install it, and it will use DNS defined in /etc/resolv.conf as upstream server, and in /etc/hosts you can define the 2 records you need.
Remember to reload it on every change.
Acess to login was restricted for user2 by defining restrictions from pam_time in /etc/time.conf (user1 was granted full access)

Pam_time was added to /etc/pam.d/lightdm by the line
account required pam_time.so
We expect login for user2 to be restricted but login for user1 is still granted.
Instead we observe the following:
* login as user2 fails with wrong password error.
* repeated login as user2 or user1 - no errors but login fails.
* switching to user1 (or another user) in the greeter: no field to give in a password is displayed.
* Shut down from menu on panel becomes unresponsive
Thus after a rejected login due to restrictions from pam_time we cannot resume working on this machine without a forced reboot (via tty or magic SysRq).

4. You will be at the Unity Greeter, log in as the second user
5. The second user session will load
6. Choose Log Out from the power/setting menu
7. You will be at the Unity Greeter
8. select and enter the password for the logged in user
Result:
The screen turns black and shows a blinking cursor
Manually switching to VT7 shows the first user session, and works fine

I want to assign a terminal based program as a default program in Gnome Shell 3.2. I am running Ubuntu 11.10.
More specifically, I want my .txt files to open in vim with maximized Gnome Terminal.
The 'Open with other application' menu does not provide for this.
