It's not CAPTCHAs, it's for identifying users

It can only serve the image containing your hand to you, and so it needs to know who you are

Ginger just has a cookie assigned to everyone who views one of those images, and once you type in the cookie hash it shows you, it can match those up and see which SE user has which cookie

It's a really brilliant system they and lyxal came up with
