hey peoples

2 hours later…
03:42
why am I not getting this? :(
if anyone's around here I have a quick question, anyone really, it's so simple I cant believe I aam asking it
Hey everybody!
04:16
hey there
can you help me?
well of course you can.. it's riddiculous anyway...
basicaly... how do I define a variable in a way it only gets read once in the code?
like the "hp", starts at 200 and starts going down
whatever I try, it always gets back to 200, it goes down when it has to, but then bck to 200

2 hours later…
06:04
@Madcowe You need to define it over time. Specifically how long you want it would take to go from 200 to 0

good morning

09:05
Mornings.
09:27
anyone know if there is an SDK for OpenGL ES 3.x?

1 hour later…
10:43
someone probably knows, yes :D
seriously though, a simple google search would get what you want
from that page, you can find some gles3 docs and the headers
if by "SDK" you meant "samples", someone else probably has those
I've seen some while googling
I've already googled it beforehand a found one luckily out of a sea of copycat OGL1.X/2.X intro tutorials. Funny how they all claim to be game development tutorials, yet never get pass a textured cube... At the most, they might rotate it based on time :P
If I can find how to load a 3D model that supports animation, I will be set
11:06
Aaaaw, I found my 3D format
@SpicyWeenie got to get your ABCs right before making games
A - always
B - build
C - cubes
:D
I've already made a few games. Just moving from 2D to 3D since most people stay in the 2D area
@SpicyWeenie this is... funny
if you need a tutorial for that, you're not ready yet
logic isn't the problem. Its learning OpenGL or Directx
both handle things in different ways.
And both are greedy on info on how to use them properly
Bedtime. お休み! (^_^)v
11:23
@SpicyWeenie subtly different
the algorithms are the same
in comparison to what you're trying to accomplish, the differences are very small

2 hours later…
13:03
this is weird..
it is?
in GCC, if all optimization options are enabled, the worst one is performed
by unchecking -O, -O1 and -O2, I got a +25% speed increase
25% less time taken to execute the application, that is
optimizations are probably applied in a certain order or something.
no, those flags just turn on other flags
and they're inclusive
-O3 turns on -O2 and so on
ah, from the docs: "If you use multiple -O options, with or without level numbers, the last such option is the one that is effective."
funny
so I suppose code::blocks was messing it up

1 hour later…
14:35
Hey, this is my first time in Game Development and I came over because I wanted to ask a Q that I think is wildly off topic but that I can't think of what other SE to ask on
it seems like most of these questions are about game programming
but, I wanted to a cultural question
ahhhhhhhhh you know what fuck it nvm lolz
not related enough to game development
nvm sorry lolz

1 hour later…
16:07
@taylor you could have tried asking here in chat? :p
16:46
@snake5 hi. I have investigated my problem a little bit and i think i'm almost done :) i disabled GL_BLEND and now colors are pretty neat, i guess there are some settings to do when enabling GL_BLENDn, atm, i just disabled it. ideone.com/i9VmzW i'm now able to mix 3D and 3D projection, the 2D image is drawn correctly, the triangle too but after being rendered, the triangle seems to shrink... or just translate on Z axis
until it becomes invisible
i don't get why
16:59
hum expected results using this method to switch to "3d projection" ideone.com/cbYVjv
i added glLoadIdentity after poping the matrices
in fact it seems like both push and pop matrices functions i added to my make2d and make3d methods are useless
my code is something like this:
Sadness = 200;
Sadness -= 1;

This on the onTick function, but I have also tried putting the Sadness = 200; out of it..
The problem is that while the ".. -=1;" works, it then reloads te Sadness = 200; and goes back to 200
and I am gtting crazy with mykeyboard again
today I found out that GCC is a rather stupid compiler
it often is incapable of creating special versions for functions with constant parameters
when I create them myself, everything runs a lot faster
today's tip - don't trust the damn compiler :D
17:17
lol nice
hey snake, got any advice for my problem?
@Madcowe set "Sadness" to 200 in another place
if you have "onCreate" or something, that would be more appropriate
@snake5 but I have tried putting it on other pplaces, even where I first declare variables but no luck...
bah, I'll just try to use a "trace" and fiddle with the code

2 hours later…
19:41
a problem
i have a java class
public class TextField extends Component
i call a method: aMethod(new TextField);
and the method looks like:
public void aMethod(Component component) {
the problem is that i accept the TextField as a Component, and i cant acces variables in TextField class (only in component class)
20:03
What is the objective of space chem???
Oh I think I've got it now
20:28
is it even possible to crate a variable in java, witch could be one than more classes
i mean something like:
Class1/Class2 classVar;
can someone hlp me'
if (avatarHasBeenHit)
{
sadness -= 10;
trace("ouch");

if(sadness <= 0)
{
bgmSoundChannel.stop();
dispatchEvent( new AvatarEvent ( AvatarEvent.DEAD ));
}
}
oh.. god.. neve mind
but seriously, if someone knows any way of makibg the keyboard stop lagging please tell me

1 hour later…
21:48
lol now I have a math dillema xD
what's the dilemma
bar's height is 200, and I want it's height to be consistent with the value
for testing, atm, the value is 2000
I had the vars "MaxSad" (the limit) and "sadness" (the current value)
if I put the values on 200 for both then this code would do fine:
sadBar.height = sadness;
sadFrame.height = MaxSad;
ok, so where's the problem if that works?
now... the sadFrame, which is the outline, can grow bigger of course
...?
22:03
but the sadBar needs to be the same height as the Max when full
why does the frame grow bigger
the outline starts small, and as you upgrade it's capacity it will grow
okay, so MaxSad grows, and when it does SadBar fills up to the new max value, or what?
but now I am trying to think of a function or a math equation that would make the max value of the bar constant
@melak47 yea something like that
how about having the height be in %
0-100 % of whatever MaxSad is
22:06
hm...
@melak47 yea but I'm drawing a blank on how to do that
sadbar.height = sadness/100 * MaxSad;
?
facepalm oh god I miss having REAL math
thanks 'll try that
if you still want to subtract 10 sadness on click though, you'll have to subtract 10/MaxSad*100 from sadness
else you'll subtract 10% of whatever your MaxSad is
hm now the bar doesnt move...I think it mighthave something to dowith the MaxSad...
brb, gotta chec the code
ah I had the calc right, the thing was the MaxxValue that was wrong
thanks
:)
don't forget to also change any place you change the sadness to work with percent also
22:14
sadBar.height = 200*sadness / MaxSad;
THIS Works (since the bar is 200 pix high atm)
@melak47 yea dont worry :)
after all I'm not that bad at math yet, I was just being mislead intothinking I was
ok :)
oh another idea... why dont I jst compare both heights?!
I HATH FOUND THE MAGIC FORMULA!
sadFrame.height = MaxSad/2;
sadBar.height = sadFrame.height*sadness / MaxSad;
this way, no matter what the sadFrame might be, it will always be correct! :D
further testing be needed
hey, can I send you a link so you can tell me what you think?
(cur-min) / (max-min) Will convert a floating point number from a range [min..max] into a range [0..1]. Once it's in the 0..1 range, you can do whatever you like with it.
22:25
think 400 might be a good starting value?
hm then again, I think I will multiply all values by 5, it will look the same, but that way I can reduce the rate at which the bar gets depleted
anyone tried it?
22:46
a simple question:
is it okay to use string variable for passwords?
i read somewhere that it's unsafe, so i ave to use char buffers
but i want to know what you guys think
@Chorche uhm no idea but where will that password be? you use it to access what?
@Madcowe well it will be sent to the server using tcp/ip connection
@Chorche so it's a password for login access to a server?
or an account?
an account
hm dont know, never had to deal with that

Q: Why is char[] preferred over String for passwords?

AhamedIn Swing, the password field has a getPassword() (returns char[]) method instead of the usual getText() (returns String) method. Similarly, I have come across a suggestion not to use Strings to handle passwords. Why does String pose a threat to security when it comes to passwords? It feels incon...

@Chorche well that seems to be what you were looking for
@Chorche hey, wanna see the game I'm making and tell me what you think?
it is still incomplete though, but getting there, the graphics still kinda suck
23:31
Hey guys, can i have some help/tips with SAT for 3d OBBs?
@GriffinHeart I dont know anything about that... sorry
