@brug I just ordered burgers deliver 😁
@Almo agree. it was excessive. one time would be enough
@OKprogrammer why do u guys hate being pinged so much? it is a nice feature, why avoiding it? especially in such chats where there r more than 2 people and more than 1 conversation thread
user92578
@some1here The issue is when you use it 3 times on the same person on consecutive messages during the same conversation
@Tyyppi_77 yeah, I got it. it is more convenient to use it only once before all my messages. but if the messages may be interrupted by another conversation thread, and the person to whom I address the messages will read them later, then hi/she may very likely miss my point
so, I made it a habbit to always use the reply feature
if it is available in the messaging platform I use ofc
user92578
From a quick look, your pings have been done in sequence with no other messages between them
@Tyyppi_77 yes, I agree. but I can not anticipate if some1 will write a message just in between my messages
user92578
A single in-between message will not distract the recipient that much.
10:29
but even with pinging three times in a row. what issues does it cause?
do u have the notifications enabled and they beep continuously?
user92578
Unnecessary notifications (if offline) / sounds (if online) for the recipient
oh. got it.
I just never experience similar problems. in all non work related messaging platforms I have all the kinds of notifications turned off

Fun, I think I somehow managed to create some heap corruption
user92578
Totally unrelated changes crash in a totally different part of the codebase with a corrupted object that is totally fine just a few calls up the stack

Fixed with a rebuild ._.
16:08
I've got a one-month challenge to build a little game for a site's april fools event.
No prank, we're just gonna deploy something fun + silly for people to mess around with.
@doppelgreener Got any ideas yet?
Yeah. :)
That’s good.
It's going to be based around a little 2D planet, and i think I'll make it a sort of missile defence style game: small things fall on the planet and you gotta shoot them down before they land.
Ooh, that does sound fun!
16:16
I'm thinking about how I'd implement that. You can run left or right indefinitely running laps around the planet. I think this means I should have a radial coordinate system that (basically) goes from 0 to 360 on the X axis, wrapping around at either end. The Y axis measures how far above the planet's surface you are. These get translated into view coordinates in order to determine how far around the planet something is.
The implication that X grows wider as it goes further up isn't going to be an issue for gameplay purposes.
Makes sense to me.
16:35
@DMGregory It seems we had similar thoughts at the same time, but took different actions (or perhaps just executed in a different order).
Great minds think alike, they say. 😁
I think I benefit more from that analysis than you, but I'll accept the terms.
If you feel your edit speaks louder than my words, feel free to remove my comment.
I think they're useful in tandem. Your comment explains my edit better than my edit note does.
In that case: socially distanced virtual high five for being the village that raises a stack exchange ;)

I know this is random, but I was thinking, and technically, our brains read and write information similar to a computer, by turning on and off “switches” in a sense. We use neurons, though.
You have discovered a core tenant of cyberpunk.
user92578
I think the big difference is the analogue nature of neurons
The next step is to play Super Hot.
It looks like a game. It is not. It is a documentary from the future disguised as entertainment.
@Pikalek Haven’t even played it! 😂
On the other side of that 4th wall: there is a branch of computing research call neural networks. That's basically where some of this goes. I don't drink their kool-aid exclusively, but I do attend some of their parties.
17:09
A lot of the stuff you see under the heading of "deep learning" is done this way, with simulated neurons being trained to do things like identify, modify, or generate images, text, etc.

@some1here As a follow-up to the earlier chat, I'd like to clarify that if you're mingling on a professional/hobby site like this one - not a dedicated dating service - it's better to establish a friendship first, rather than jumping directly to a romantic connection. Folks are here primarily to talk about game development (or other topics, depending on the SE site), not date or receive solicitations.
So it would not be appropriate to, say, message a user on StackExchange out of the blue to ask whether they're single. That type of thing would be poorly received.

I’m pretty happy right now. I just won a wrestling tournament and beat the Ender Dragon in Minecraft for the first time!
And both are pretty rare, to say the least! 😉
@DMGregory Yep, this is more of an “Ask Questions, Get Answers, No Nonsense” kind of website. (See what I did there?)
I mean, there can be a degree of nonsense. But there is a line between chitchat/socializing and hitting on someone. 😉
You’ve got the facts!
So, how have you been today?
22:06
Doing alright. Mostly been housecleaning and doing laundry.
Ah. I had to do that yesterday.
When I get to my house, I’ll send you guys a picture of my inventory system. It just looks kind of empty, in a sense.
@DMGregory I figure you might know a thing or two about UI styling. 😉

Hiya Pika
How are you?
Oh, hey guys!
I am in awe of my own stupidity. At a time when I have an unprecedented number of masks at the ready, do I bother to use one before swimming through attic insulation? Spoilers: I do not.
But aside from my comical attempts to catch some hanta virus, I'm okay.
Ouch! Might want to remember one next time. I did that once and it made my lungs hurt.
Did you manage to cut all your 2 pounds of onions?
23:51
yes, I prepped the last 2 lbs or so this afternoon.
Tossed some in the instantpot with the start of tonight's beef stew. Bidding my time until the timer pops.
Those instantpots really are life savers.
I've gradually warmed to it. Wasn't sure if it would holds its ground or not.
And air fryers. I probably ate 90% of my food from it (until it died while making my chicken wings and I ate them unknowingly).
Uff.
Yep. Thankfully I didn’t get salmonella.
23:57
@brug Did you say you were grilling yesterday? And if so, indoors or out?
By the way, when I get home, can you guys review my inventory system UI? I don’t know whether I need to reinvent the wheel (a third time).
Ohh hey. I shrunk the tab and didn't notice yall were chatting again.
@Pikalek Indoor
I love my instantpot. It's so versatile.
@OKprogrammer Sure.
I am less impressed with the air fryer.
If you don’t use an off brand one like me, it might be better.
