Got a case of RTFM ....
Sie
Sie
00:50
Where?
The "C++ include guard not working." question
Sie
Sie
01:07
Ah
01:37
@BlueBug but you know, when your budget for a game is like mine ($0), you gotta make that stuff OR settle with less than best graphics :P
@BlueBug looks kinda funny, but cool!

8 hours later…
09:16
Might give unity another shot now I actually have the money to buy assets
user92578
09:37
CubeMap(const CubeMap& other){
	std::abort();
	// NO FUCKING AROUND ALRIGHT?!?!
}
user92578
hahahahaha
user92578
nwp
nwp
That person has some misunderstandings about C++.
Also some anger issues apparently.
user92578
yup
user92578
"can't pass arrays to functions"
user92578
09:43
tbh 6 properly named parameters would be my choice
nwp
nwp
I stopped reading after the isnull thing.
"If you would use C++ arrays instead of C arrays you could pass them to functions just fine."
user92578
bool isnull = true; //By default, it is null.
user92578
lol wtf
user92578
he is trying to prevent the constructor from being called again?
user92578
wait is reinstantiating a thing?
09:46
bool
bool test
Sorry just experimenting hehe
I canny remember codeblocks
user92578
multiple lines show a button that says "fixed font"
Oh ye, I remember
ta
I'm confusing Markdown
10:41
C++ is bad in the wrong hands. :P
nwp
nwp
11:06
@Tyyppi_77 Not the way he thinks. Placement new exists.
But the if (!isnull) can never trigger because the constructor always sets isnull to true.
user92578
yup
nwp
nwp
@WilliamMariager There are not many things that are good in the wrong hands.
Well, some things lends themselves very much to abuse. Like C/C++ preprocessor macros.
nwp
nwp
Apparently the term "coroutine" is not dead.
user92578
huh?
nwp
nwp
11:23
I thought "coroutine" along with "subroutine" and some other terms all disappeared in favor of "function", but it appears not so.
user92578
Coroutines are a Unity technique
user92578
They run on a separate thread and allow for some easy "blocking" implementations
@Tyyppi_77 they're not specifically a unity technique, they're general
user92578
I.e. you can like ask it to wait 5 seconds before continuing execution
And have specific definitions =p
nwp
nwp
11:24
Ah, right, they did want to add that to C++ too.
Which are not the same as functions
nwp
nwp
I remember some fighting about stackless vs stackful coroutines now. Never mind, I was just confused.

@ShaunWild Have you played with GoDot much at all? I like it but the only thing I'm not fan of is the way they handle prefabs. Basically, you use scenes as a kind of prefab.
user92578
That actually seems very clever
user92578
Really cool that you can just easily make a part of a scene its own thing that can be replicated
Sie
Sie
Ya. It's supposed to be somewhat cleaner in a sense.
user92578
Also AFAIK Unity still can't nest prefabs, and with a scene tree system you definitely can
Sie
Sie
What do you mean by nesting?
user92578
12:52
An element having children
15:08
yeah prefabs can't have prefabs in them
they want to fix that, but apparently is some kind of weird fucking nightmare
I'm not familiar with prefabs, but abstractly, anytime you let a data structure of any kind collect itself, you open the door to a bunch of edge cases.
That's how it starts. Next thing you know, you're coding in LISP & muttering things about monads.

hahaha

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ yo - do you have any strong opinions about the recent crop of laptop / tablet hybrid in terms of Wacom tablet replacement / substitutes?
@Pikalek last Wacom I purchased was a Cintiq and I use it with my iMac on it's secondary thunderbolt port. I did notice some newer models were coming out but I couldn't justify dropping almost 2 grand on something I dont need to replace.
I've never owned a drawing tablet, but I used the stuff at Uni back in the day (circa 00). I'm at best, an art dabbler. Right now, I'm possibly in the market for a laptop & noticed a few items that are trying to be both a laptop & a wacom level device. But sometimes that means doing neither well...
On the plus side, it would be less gear to lug around & might open some options in terms of what I can do away from home. On the down side, they seem extra expensive & I can't return or sell the drawing tablet parts if they're not stand alone.
I was just wondering what folks in the graphics design world might think of them in general.
it does take some time getting used to. If you're looking for one I'd get a smaller version that isnt a monitor and use it to replace part of your mouse skills. Best Buy has a good entry level one and that's the Wacom - Intuos Bluetooth Creative Pen Tablet (Small) - Black.
you still end up using your mouse but I find if you can learn to just use the pen it will help the transition to a screen
15:57
I was weighing the merits of something like the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 against Cintiq Pro 13 or 16.
Which level Cintiq do you use?
if I recall it's the 12wx
Has the size or color gamut ever been a barrier for you?
no never had an issue but I used x-rite
Good to know. Thanks for your input!
@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ And, if I may suggest sir, maybe relocate those thermal vents closer to one of those shooty things.
ha ha, totally flew into the exhaust port and I missed it
16:35
@Almo Nested prefabs are apparently coming, at long last, in version 2018.3 :D
@Pikalek On the drawing tablet / laptop front, I've gotten a lot of mileage out of my Surface.
The NTrig digitizer is not as well supported as Wacom stuff (I sometimes have to juggle drivers/settings a bit to convince some software to read the pen pressure), and the eraser is awful, but the combination of an i7 laptop in a tablet form factor I can draw on has been pretty amazing. I rarely use another device outside of my office.
16:51
Hello!
Hello?
@DMGregory wow

Been playing with GoDot a little bit. I actually like how the script editor is built-in to the editor.
Not really digging GDScript so far though...
No semicolons?
user92578
18:31
@Sie that's actually faster to get used to than you expect
user92578
I no longer type semicolons in scala
Sie
Sie
I believe it. I'm sure it ends up being marginally faster too after some time. You can use GDScript, C# or C++ with GoDot.

4 hours later…
23:30
Okay, I just went through the list of tools I now have access and it's not as fun as I (for whatever reason) expected...
And there wasn't any cake either.
