@DMGregory my first solution just happened to be really low on cost
Neatly done. :)
These combine into 8 "complex stability states": superstability, semistability, mendaxastability, demistability, contrastability, nonstability, antistability, khaotictivity, based on a matrix: TTT, TTF, TFT, TFF, FTT, FTF, FFT, FFF, where these are T/F for stability, epistability and metastability
also regions can be "strongly" or "weakly" stable
All of these terms do definitely integrate existing definitions, especially the compound world. the use of strength and weakness reflect the combinatorial game theory usages.
nwp
nwp
No TFF?
wait, you got that
@nwp so I think you are correct in your assertion--even "Khaotictivity" is a mutation of an existing word/usage
nwp
nwp
but it should still be 9
00:05
2 options per field to the power of 3 fields would be 8, no?
nwp
nwp
Hmm true. Somehow I was thinking 3*3.
3^2 instead of 2^3?
nwp
nwp
I should go sleep, it's way past my bed time.
Easy way to break it down is stability goes TTTTFFFF, epistability goes TTFFTTFF, and metastability goes TFTFTFTF
But the hierarchy I present may not be definitive, and hopefully an NN will be able to determine which form or the hierarchy is optimum in which circumstances.
@nwp nighty night!
@DMGregory I know that the max unique connections for any set of points is n(n-1)/2
00:08
I wanna play Dwarf Fortress but the version from a parallel universe where the UI is more enjoyable than underwears made of P12 grit sandpaper.
3
I probably need to hunt down the formula combining n elements ;)
2^3 is correct in this case, but why?
@StephaneHockenhull lol
Tetris was originally text-based, so maybe there's hope for Dwarf Fortress
I don't mind the text for tiles, After 15 mins I can see what everything is. It's the darn UI navigation that kills it for me. Doesn't take long in game that you spend time going in and out through 6 menus-deep diving back-and-forth to manage production.
@StephaneHockenhull You get used to it surprisingly quickly. I have to actively stay away from that game as I have a habit of losing weeks at a time to it. XD
Must...optimize!
I want a multi-window version so I can quick-tab between management screens.
I can play for about a day before the UI navigations kills the mood for me.
00:24
@DMGregory you sound like me. I've been on a self-imposed game playing mortatorium for months now
My dream is to re-achieve gentleman of leisure status, and spend my golden years in massively multiplayer environments like Eve and GTA online.
Hopefully they'll get the direct-to-brain interface worked out by then
and some sort of vat for the home so one can suspend one's body in a bio-gel, with oxygen and nutrients supplied intravenously
Related to current topic ^^ :D
hahah I like that cartoon
blasted another one out with low cost
not lowest on the histogram, but definitely on the short side of the top of the bell curve
That cartoon definitely describes some people I know
ok, no. it's at the center of the curve, but it is very steep to the left
so not many have gotten it in less cost

Had to try Surrender Flare again. ;)
Oh no. Steam is having a sale again.
SHENZHEN I/O is on sale...
Ooooh, I've wanted to try that one.
I'm somewhat disgusted that I'm getting that game.
02:04
Why's that? It looks like fun. :)
Coz that's my @$%#$% day job :P
What better way to unwind after a day of trying to figure out why the @#$% WiFi chip crashes after 5 mins or the LED module has corrupted pixels...
Or after spending hours figuring out how to squeeze all those graphics into an ARM Cortex-M0 flash ROM MCU...
Fair, but there's something to be said about the tight feedback loop and clarity of success you get from game challenges, even if they parallel real-world work. The real stuff is so often more fuzzy and unclear if you're really making progress.
Shezhen is a great game
But I prefer Opus Magnum, actually. But I am good with spatial reasoning.
It looks great. I'm gonna wait until it's out of early access tho.
02:23
It's very polished - I'd say moreso than any Zachtronics game I've played before.
So, if you're concerned the Early Access version might be incomplete or glitchy, you'd likely be pleasantly surprised.
03:01
Are we having some kind of GDSE Opus Magnum competition? :D
03:44
Maaaayyyyybeeee....
(btw, @Almo, check out Armor Filament. I got a bit carried away.... :D )
Weeeeell ... I got the game :D
Oooooh. :) I hope you enjoy it!
playing shenzen for now. It looks like there's still some cheating going on in the leaderboards.
TIS-100 was pretty bad for that
YAS! shaved 1 opcode :D
cut power usage too
04:01
Sweet! :D
04:17
HAHAHA of course some of the instructions are only in Chinese
aw HCF is not a valid opcode
Disappointing. :(
What's the Chinese translation? Maybe that one works.
04:34
I dunno. I can barely figure out what shops are :P

08:13
Shenzen.IO is very nice
I would've added a dozen of secret instructions though

A: Casting a Matrix4 class to float*

BálintNo, it doesn't, but you can simply pass the array in the object.

Any ideas what I could add?

2 hours later…
nwp
nwp
10:07
@Bálint Undefined behavior because strict alias violation. Just pass projMatrix.the_float_array instead without the cast. Also don't use C casts.
You can add that in practice it will probably just work, but why take unnecessary chances.
nwp
nwp
10:28
Apparently it is not so clear. The cast itself is valid assuming PODs, the pointer arithmetic is valid if inside the struct is an actual float array, not just floats. Might want to link that so someone can find the answer that they like best, there are many to chose from.

hi
Parent A has a child and Parent B has a child. They are both at 0,0,0. If I move Parent A to like (5,0,0) , will its child still have the same local position as child B?
12:12
Unless whatever you use does something weird, yes, local position is unchanged if parent position changes
Moving the parent moves it's children in everything I've ever used
12:46
I removed a visual glitch in our software. It's been there for years. It really felt like a weight removed off my shoulders once it worked properly!
@AlexandreVaillancourt yaaaayyy!!
13:34
:D
13:57
@AlexandreVaillancourt awesome

2 hours later…
16:24
Dear FireFox: You idiots. Nobody's designed favicons for black backgrounds.
Also my windows are light blue, and the black tabs clash with that.
well they look black. the screenshot blued them for some reason
nwp
nwp
Woooot! Look ma, I'm on TV!
@Almo "Let's take care of our users eye health" :P
16:51
My player moves forward with some speed. I want the player speed to increase, like for first 5 minutes it should be 12 (speed) and after 5 minutes it should be 14 (speed), and after 10 minutes it should be 16 (speed) and after 15 minutes the speed should be 18 until the player is out. Can anyone tell me how should I do it?

1 hour later…
18:05
@Almo Are they outright ignoring the system's color scheme? If they're gonna mess with the window's caption bar they gotta get that stuff right.
It's so difficult to grab Chrome's windows to move them around when it's filled with tabs.
@Hemlata What have you tried so far?
18:42
we got 3rd place at Balkan Gaming Expo
19:01
Congratulations!
19:41
why the hell would I want a free Alcatel tablet.
@Almo free, it's because it's free...
@UriPopov Nice :)
But it's Android.
and who the fuck is Alcatel :D
@Almo You can do some things with that :P
@Almo Phone company?
yeah
telus
ok i gert your question now
2
was confused
@AlexandreVaillancourt @DMGregory thanks guys.
19:57
@Almo what question?
"phone company"
it was an answer to "who is.." not asking me if it was a phone company offering it to me

20:58
so who won that election thingy?
alex and dmgreg
you can kind of tell by how their names are blue now :)
Sie
Sie
I think I voted for you and Chris.
Nothing personal to the others.
heh thanks :)
Nothing personal taken. :)
yeah you won :P
:)
21:15
I wonder what the voting ratio was in terms of candidate/voters
I get the feeling outside of this chat's little clique there wasn't that many voters.
300+ voters, 600+ eligible voters visited the election page, if I recall.
oh, thats much better than I expected
Sie
Sie
I think Putin was involved.
and if you're not playing Opus Magnum, you can just get out. :D
I'm not. I'm not playing anything :(
21:56
Get out
Gimme yer diamond on the way. :D
22:17
Hello people
Oh right. Opus Magnum finished installing
So I forgot to check the printer and my wife left the good quality paper in it. I now have a 50-ish hard-cover-encyclopedia-quality Shenzhen I/O manual...
It takes a while to unpack the data with all those levers. ;)
Ooh, shiny. :) Make-your-own-collector's-item!
In Shenzhen I/O I'm on the puzzle where you have to program a remote-controlled RGB LED ...
I literally built a heart-beat-reading with remote-controlled animated RGB LED strip ball last year for work IRL. Why am I playing this game again?
Haha, niiice!
22:35
Wait nevermind, that's some other dude with cargo pants in the back
The MCUs in shenzhen IO have no code space...
And the scenario requirements are way too stricts. Who cares if the e-cig RGB blink time is delayed by 1 cycles...
And the radio receiver just works... It'd be more realistic if you had to restart the simulation 20 times to get a pass.
And half the time the radio's internal MCU should just crash for no reason and need a power cycling.
XD Have you played TIS-100?
.. I want to say no ...
but that'd be lying
I think I have a problem :P
22:52
Zachtronics games are surprisingly compelling, even when painful. ;)
I only got 12 puzzles left to do in TIS-NET directory
Yeah, I haven't finished the later ones yet.
AARG! Even an ATTiny has more code space than this!
23:14
The storyline emails are great
23:29
Once more is public, I imagine we could have a lively conversation about the chips in our toys for Starlink. ;)
On one program I tried using the CPU flags post-wrap-around but the flags clear every time the program goes past the end :(
So satisfying.
So far I've only had to do power usage optimizations IRL. The extra cost of an overkill MCU is insignificant compared to the CNC design needed to create ~3 devices for an event.
