Alright cool, so I am making a puzzle for a game where you have to put 4 objects in 4 slots in a wall in a specific order for a door to open. I already have the code that checks for the closest slot and when you press a certain button the object you're holding will be placed in the nearest slot. This is the code: pastebin.com/XvTCGm9C
I just need to make a check that checks if a slot is already occupied

and have a list of Slots rather than a list of GameObjects

the slots are empty gameobjects, I only use them to link the transform of the objects to the transform of the "slot"

a GameObject doesn't have that behaviour
so create a Slot class with a variable that you can set when you add an item to it

nah, not bools - you'd want to set a GameObject, or more ideally some other class so you know exactly what you're holding and moving around
rather than relying on gameObject.tags
