Interesting
oooh Polish and Spanish updates!
I dismiss a lot of platformers on Steam because the gameplay looks boring
I'm a sucker of the pixelly ones though
And the ones that I've bought and played a bit, they're good but it leaves me desiring just spamming attacks all day long - which is what drove me to make Tallowmere
and making Tallowmere 2 last year, I realised later on into it as I started to focus on coding gameplay, that the animation really just made me sad
@StephaneHockenhull yeah!
I had a horrible pun about it but I'll skip the chat ban :)
2
That's a disgrace, tbh
I'm deeply offended by that
I'm offended you are offended
00:11
flagged
I would actually flag it for a laugh but even silence is better than a rush of pompous airheads on a pretentious political correctness mission
00:27
A little publisher has contacted me about bringing Tallowmere to Wii U in Japan - might be a thing
good luck
hehe thanks
Cool. Approach with caution
Keep us posted
Could be a very cool partnership but in most cases when someone approaches you they have a reason for it
Might want to screw you
00:30
yeah that's where my "good luck" is aimed tbh, tallowmere speaks for itself and doesn't need luck lol
@ChrisMcFarland Can't put it on WiiU Japan yourself?
They look legit, been around for over a decade, lots of consoles under their belt, lots of games - not big games but games nonetheless
@StephaneHockenhull From what I've read you gotta be an established publisher eh, licensed
So it's not a super free market
i made a site for these guys... 65 years of building quality wear parts
ざんねん
that was the sum of the 7 people working there
65 years, was actually like 6
00:33
oh boi Chris is going international?!
I had a different Japanese publisher approach me about getting Tallowmere on Android on Japan's markets. But ultimately they couldn't get the game through the carrier's initial approval system
he already is lol
this game brings dishonor to japan
lol;
probably too niche
君のゲームは恥ずかしい
but yeah it's very different from Apple and Google where they don't really care, anyone can just sign up and build something playable and boom
00:40
BOOM instant money
Just make a match-4
rake in the millions
match-4 what are you, work addicted?
make poke the bunny
flappy bird worked
LOL
you're right, Match-4 is too intellectual
@jgallant I fucking got it dude. Poke the bunny.
I'll go for Match-1
My 7 year old: "What's a match-1?"
00:42
@StephaneHockenhull That seems better but still a bit too mathy maybe?
slot machine games seem to be the easy haul :(
IAPs for coins
lol
god damnit I was supposed to be joking sarcastically
where did I put my anti-anxiety pills :|
ah here they are right on my desk... never too far away if I'm outside the locked doors of the lab
@ChrisMcFarland There, and I'll only take 45%.
I'll do it for 42%
00:48
hehehehehehe
key to success is to just use anime girls
notes
@ChrisMcFarland Is that racist? or sexist?
shhh, this is SE don't be ridiculous
@BlueBug super awesome answer, wish I could upvote it several times
1
A: Spotlight Culling. Plane vs Cone Shape

Blue Bug Screenshot from : Real-Time Collision Detection, Volume 1 The collision check is as simple as checking whether vertex of cone and the far end of the cone are lying two difference sides of the plane. However in doing so you will end up with either green or purple point depending on the order...

@MickLH <3 <3 thank you. Plz make another account to upvote for me(?!)
Raking in the sales...
which reminded me to accept the answer, tadan. Now the question is marked as answered!
I'm laughing way too much at my own 'shops...
Must do work on my game...
00:59
@PearsonArtPhoto Me too!
Time to fix a bug that happens about 1/5 times when creating a world that drives me crazy.
Chance based bug
I have to work on my ISimpleShader class. Make it allow CPU to modify data on GPU.
It's funny, the symptom is a Stack Overflow on Random.Range, literally on Randomness.
I think I fixed it, but testing such things is always a pain...
I found out Intel's OpenGL drivers completely shit the bed with my engine.
nVidia is fine on all platforms, AMD/ATI works with some work-arounds.
Intel's Win10 drivers on the z8700 just renders a diagonal line.
The open-source drivers on Linux render fine with all cards, OSX is fine too (or was, last I checked)
01:10
you make this?
yeah
lol I always made it
lets make a game with your music
seriously
I'm down!
i have this playing on my paradigms
at some parts
my floor is vibrating
1,20
1.10 to 1.20
my floor is like moving back and forth
But Intel HD graphics drivers completely fail... I dunno if I want to put the effort into figuring out what's wrong with that driver... but Steam gives it 25% market share ... that's a lot :(
Or I could write the DirectX renderer ... They seem to have fewer bugs in their DirectX implementation.
01:13
@MickLH would be cool man
we could do a cheap game like a infinite runner
but that is cheap
I just realized something...
Unity 5.5 has LayoutGroups with children that control or expand the size of a window.
I've been reading them exactly wrong until now...
I read it "Child Size Controls" instead of "Control Child Size". Sigh...
how does it make you feel to see that vid?
are you demotivated?
Of Winds of Trade?
It's hard to say, but yeah, it doesn't help.
01:19
when i saw it, i thought holy fuck this is pearson's game
It is actually quite similar to my original concept for my game.
It's a pity, I kind of wish I had tried to work with the developer when I first heard about it...
There are differences, for sure. Still...
but they are ages ahead
I know it. Sigh.
so what i think you should do is bank on them
meh, make yours better and sell it :D
01:21
2d version of it
even on mobile man... people that play this would love a 2d version
And the real problem is, it's close enough of a game to mine that what market share there is for a sea trading game will go to theirs no doubt.
Or sometimes people want simpler gameplay
exactly
Hmmm...
Well, in any case, I'm going to have to give it some thought for sure.
It really is in a lot of ways the game I set out to build a year ago, although my exact target has changed a fair bit since then.
heh, i wanted to make this game 20 years ago
01:24
Winds of Trade is competition focused, for instance, and I really don't care much about that. Mine is a bit more detailed, focusing on food and water and stuff on the ship, for instance.
actually i wanted to make this game when i was like 10 years old
i thought about it while i was playing a vic20
R to reset - F to drop water
i made it like 20 years later
fuck yeah :P
@PearsonArtPhoto don't worry, by the time yours is done people will be ready for a new game in the same genre.
@jgallant I thought of this with something I made a while ago
LOL.
@jgallant You should do something with that game. I bet you could make it in to a reasonable game at some point in time.
i added people
burning and jumping out windows

Q: How can I edit a game level using jmonkeyengine?

Dac SaundersI liked the quake level that comes with jME3. But if I want to edit that level, make it bigger or so, what editor or programming can I use to edit the level? If I open the zip file it's a bunch of texture files that I don't know how to combine to a level. Was the level constructed using some edit...

I'm watching some ppl play Stardew valley on twitch... I'd like to play soo bad.. :/
02:22
@jgallant wake up god damnit I know you just checked SE 4s ago
@AlexandreVaillancourt don't! It's a time sink
I know :S It looks like it's fun!!!
But yeah, I don't have time for that :S
Perhaps once I'm done with Banished, I'll play during lunch time at work..
But I can't play that game at home... :/
How come? It's 2D, your PC should be able to...
Oh, no, it's not that, it's just that I don't have time at home :P
If I start to play that game, I won't have time for the important stuff hehe
It's not a bad game to ALT-TAB in and out while coding...
I think 30% of that play time was just it running paused in the background while I was working.
02:35
Oh, yeah; no, I don't even have time for that either; we have a 4 months old baby here, and a shitload of forever-todos that I'm tired to carry around...
7y and 2y here. The 2y sits on my lap watching me play going "cluck cluck" while pointing at the chickens.
TOMATO!!!! PAPA!! TOMATO!!!!
CORN!! りんご!! MOOOOOOOO!!
PAPA! MOOOOOOO!
I'm not sure how long I'll be able to resist to have him watch TV and computer/phone screens..
@AlexandreVaillancourt it's pretty cool
it also supports short play sessions with its requirement that you sleep to save each day
02:50
Yeah; I'd totally play the game if I had time :P
I think I'll play after Banished and Valkyria Chronicle (I play at work). I'm not sure when I'll be done with Banished, though. I don't think I'll play much longer, though. I've got my city going and I've basically understood how the game works, so I guess I'd be able to make my settlement grow as much as I'd like..

03:07
So @Mick what brings you back over? Things slowing down on Mumble or what?
Almo telepathically pinged me the other day so I opened up the tab
03:27
@Magisch what's that meme face called? (in your avatar)
:D
@MickLH Sasha is selling his Waldorf Wave that he made airdrawndagger with
Dude that thing is a beastmachine
haha yeah
great fuckin album too
Any synth that makes that track is awesome in my book
03:45
I'd say it's legitimately better than the highest end synths available today
@Almo after that music, the playlist played this one and I really like this one too.
The theory behind it has not improved almost at all whatsoever since then, but the implementation has moved to dirt cheap digital filters that simply have less bandwidth than their analog counterparts.
In analog filters the errors are in the Q value and the corner frequency. (Due to physical noise in the control voltage signal it's fed.)
In digital filters the errors are directly a white noise added to the audio (because of slicing the wave into constant pressure samples, and then snapping the pressure values to N-bit, as well as floating point errors accumulated depending on the programming quality), as well as a Q value and corner frequency error
03:58
...both of those were really good
yeah wavyt gravy is good too. that whole ablum is awesome
I recommend playing the whole album in order, as Sasha is nominally a DJ, he's great at flowing one track into another
worked with Junkie XL on it

4 hours later…
08:05
@MickLH Thats the awesome smiley
Mine has a headset though
I'm not a regular in this chat though
@Magisch I noticed the bling :P
A friend of mine made the avatar sometime in 2007
I've been using it on most sites since
08:22
I made a script that draws that face pixel perfect with the mouse
using any sized brush
I used it to spam it across the entire world of those multi-user giant drawing board apps
I assume you're a game developer
I'm a regular boring developer
I don't know what kind of developer I am anymore, but I am working on a game these days
I'm writing an enterprise ressource planning system for a company atm
I have a bunch of that kind of shit to get done but I'm slacking a little tbh
mostly it's not code, but human protocols that need to be designed
09:18
What do u think about this new software ? affinity.serif.com/en-gb/photo

1 hour later…
10:21
@Magisch I think you need to actually have a game of your own to call yourself gamedev. Having game of your own is tough... And I too am still not a game dev.
I am working on it o_o
10:33
guys bitcoin block chain is >100GB these days I'm dying ;_;
@MickLH ;;; r u mining bitcoin?
I'm just trying to use my wallet :s
on a new install
wait, do u actually have to download that amount of data to use bitcoin of your own? I don't know much about how you actually use.
yeah I have to download the entire bitcoin transaction log
because I don't like using online hosted wallets
seems ridiculous to me, defeats the whole purpose of bitcoin, just use a bank at that point
Well bitcoin is build on p2p, isnt it?
So you'd have to download the whole thing to become part of the network
10:37
Yeah, the download speed is fine with the p2p
and my PC handles the crypto as fast as it can download
but it's still a shitload to download and I can't game because it's raping my connection ;_;
like every time I send a message here, it stays green for a while before going through
I thought someone would have fixed this shit by now
Probably not possible
It should be possible, all I need is an index of the latest blocks that everyone is relying on
But in order to verify those latest blocks... I'd need to verify each block's parent...
I had a few ideas a while back about how to get around it, I figured "Eh, there's options, and obvious necessity, someone will do it."
11:18
I think there's clients where you don't need to download everything?
I 'unno, I don't use buttcoin
The best you can do is explicitly trusting some node
If you trust some node, they can just tell you "Here's the latest blocks for each potentially useful path, they are all valid trust me."
I want something better like a "verification shortcut" system that allows for fully verifying any given transaction using only some fraction of the whole blockchain
There's clients like electrum apparently: electrum.org/#home
They don't require the entire thing by doing that on some server somewher
Right that's even worse
You're explicitly trusting Electrum's own servers in that case
I need to move a shitload of money right now lol I can't trust it
I just have to bitch and complain through like 2 more years worth of blockchain
It's always the problem of a few groups of shit people getting too much influence and trying to halt progress to keep things the way where they have the influence
11:29
@MickLH tfw you even have a shitload of money to move
Can't really update BitCoin technology anymore... Miners freak out if they lose a day worth of mining because of some patch causing a temporary incompatibility
To the extreme that it's political now :(
Only when the system crashes and burns forcibly, does anything get "updated"
and even then historically the "update" has been to revert to the old thing and re-import all the forward stuff back
It's almost as if people dont mess around when their money is on the line
Money is a load of shit. It used to be useful for deciding who has to starve to death. Now that there's enough food for everyone, it's just pure overhead costing us directly in resources and funneling value off to useless middlement doing nothing while polluting the planet from 25x shipping goods across the globe back and forth to get "the deal"
easy to say if you have it
we're polluting the planet anyways, the planet will teach us a lesson soon about why that was a poor idea
12:30
i did it!
Right side is what I am supposed to have left is what I am getting with this new forward+ implementation(without shadow). Yesssssss...
It looks technically beautiful :D
That means a lot Mick. Thank u <3. Not often do I hear compliments since my stuff looks kinda boring.
13:01
<3

1 hour later…
14:15
Is that made with JavaScript?
14:50
Today was supposed to be dev day.. Then I went drinking :(
15:04
@jgallant C++~
you should use javascript instead
Use JQuery, would have fixed that in no time
$(target).Render($('pixel').GenerateColor())
It's that easy
By the magic of JQuery it would produce your desired image on the right
15:21
but c++ is industry standard I think?
For game engines, yeah
16:13
That Java question is pretty much free karma
So I decided to answer it then my gf was OMG COME HELP ME just before I submit the answer. She wanted me to see something irrelevant and somebody beat me to it by a minute -.-
@Hjorthenify no free karma for you :p
16:31
At least my answer is more throughout :D
False.
:(
How so?
16:46
i don't know what you are talking about

3 hours later…
19:30
@BlueBug you sure it's about C++ and not dota2?
20:30
@Ali.S It's about industry in general.
well... Ice frog is the main designer of Dota2
and they've recently released a new patch
dude I wouldn't touch that shit from the beginning
which has similar response from the players...
I thought it was a joke that valve got dota2
Like someone trying to make a sarcastic joke about how gaming is so business focused and out of touch these days
But then gaming industry is actually just that bad
That's what a few billion does to any industry I guess though
But still, sad as fuck
Not that Valve was that bad at the time (they are now, but irrelevant)
But that Valve was obviously not the right team for that kind of game, and the only reason they could ever get in charge of that is if no gamers or community had a say in it and it was purely decided by money.
20:58
@MickLH well I don't agree with your last statement
Valve had a successful resume of multiplayer online games
if you ask me, the best resume there is
well except riot who had published one single similar game (LoL)
compared to other game developers out there (EA, capcom, ubisoft, blizzard, ...) I think valve was the best well established company to start developing dota
21:30
Do you even play Moba or FPS?
"I'm great at electrical, so of course I can do your plumbing!"
I hope I need not explain further.
Just because Valve was the "least evil" doesn't mean they were the best choice...
Why does everyone think it has to go to a Big Company(TM)?
Every* game you've enjoyed was based off a project or modification made by someone more like starving college kids.
Almost literally "every" in Valve's case.
Portal, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, all starving kids
If you want to get technical, Blizzard was the obvious choice of them anyways, because....... DotA was another "starving college kid" product... a warcraft mod. So at least Blizzard could update the lore properly
I was interested in your response, but I can't just sit here forever, I've gotta make something to eat now.
Thinking that Valve could make a good MOBA because they made good FPS is exactly the fucking problem with the industry.
Literally. Exactly.
People run off "hype" instead of just seeing who's passionate about what and who enjoys what.
A skilled person making a game for themself to enjoy, will make an enjoyable game. While a skilled person making a game to get paid, will make a generic piece of crap that meets the minimum requirement for a paycheck.
Is this not obvious in every incarnation across life to all humans?
22:05
To complain about something completely different: Don't use big bold header text in your answer. It makes you look like an ignorant noob trying to overcompensate for his sketchy answer. Also it comes across really arrogant. Please stop.
My answer is the best, please upvote
22:22
