I don't see how the two are related.
I think you can learn node-based programming without hitting the math

Well I think that visual scripting may help me work through more advanced programming.
I guess I'm asking do you suppose a visual scripting language could help work through more intricate parts of game programming?

Considering Unreal 4 expects people to do most of their work in the visual thing, I think it can work. But it's unorthodox.
I don't think I can really advise on this since I don't have enough experience with the visual programming

@GameDevABC mostly that this isn't probably a very good place to market your game in
08:31
I mean it is interesting to say the least but yeah it's not appealing when all your input to chat is "check my game"
@for the game itself @GameDevABC it is very clean and neat
but as soon as all these ads poped up I deleted it.
qa people should learn statistics, our qa reported a bug that a random thing happened three times when trying five times, with three different possible results. this must be a bug, right?
damn irritating when they keep saying it's a bug and ignoring my explanation that it's not
play the game 10k times and then say it's a bug and I'll believe
do QA people get paid by number of bugs they find?
no this is our internal qa with constant salary
but sometimes yeah they do
That sounds like an awful model of payment
what's the game about I am curious
well, the other way around, if you think about it, they would not have to report any bugs and still get paid so it's really improving quality when you pay per-bugreport
08:41
I mean as QA tester, that sounds like an awful environment to work within
why?
because more I help to find the bugs, lesser my payment will be
what's the game about, I am still curious,
it's contract work at that point, the company is paid per-bug and the employees still get full salary

I can't tell much about it yet, not until we're in soft launch
no diamonds, cash instead

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The blue bug..?
nonononon this bug!!! Let me screen capture
What was the issue?
Soo.. What was the issue? :P
yeah the lines are there, but what caused them?
oh. Now I understand.
I dont know I just kept deleting line by line until it worked
as I were calculating radiance, when the light didn't hit the "pixel in the air", it returned negative value(which means I cannot see any light for that pixel from my eye position unless I am looking at it from the opposite angle) which kinda made sense but as I add up that negative number without saturating it, my summed up light values for certain areas became lower compared to the rest @Hjorthenify @Lasse
@Hjorthenify need help with my server performance , the problem is that server by doing nothing takes 13% of my cpu , and i just notice that he takes 13% per client connected so if there is 3 client connected he takes 39% of my cpu not sure where is the problem
Sounds like it is not doing nothing
@Hjorthenify server have packetsendingthread witch created inside server constructor , then each clients have packethandlethread
so even if there is no client connected its takes 13% so i think that something might be wrong with PacketSenderThread
11:17
What socket library are you using?
winsock
Well it assume it has something to do with the code running in an infinite loop. What's the timeout time for your accept call?
how to check ?
No idea. Haven't worked with winsockets before
what do u mean by timeout ? how much ms its takes to execute ?
11:23
No
Okay I looked up the documentation. Are you sure that you've declared the socket as blocking?
i did not declares at all its default
i only declared client as non blocking
How is ConnSock declared
Oh I just realized
You create a thread that runs PacketSenderThread
Which is an infinite loop
ConnSock = socket(addr.sin_family, SOCK_STREAM,0);
	if (bind(ConnSock, (SOCKADDR*)&addr, addrLen) == SOCKET_ERROR) {
		std::string errormsg = "Failed to bind address to listing socket.Error" + std::to_string(WSAGetLastError());
		MessageBoxA(NULL, errormsg.c_str(), "ERROR", MB_OK | MB_ICONERROR);
		exit(1);
	}
	if (listen(ConnSock, SOMAXCONN) == SOCKET_ERROR) {
		std::string errormsg = "Failed to listen socket.Error" + std::to_string(WSAGetLastError());
		MessageBoxA(NULL, errormsg.c_str(), "ERROR", MB_OK | MB_ICONERROR);
So that's probably what uses up 13% of your CPU
yea but each client takes 13% cpu aswell so i think each of client thread takes 13% aswell
there is one thread for sending messages , and then each client have thread for handling them
11:31
Same problem applies to each client
You run an infinite loop on each of them
yea but i have to
Each taking 100% of the execution time on each core doing nothing
No you dont
how then ?
UserMsgHandler runs in an infinite loop along with PacketSenderThread
As far as I can see
u mean main loop ?
yea each thread have infinite loop inside
11:33
I mean that in each you have while(true){}
So it keeps executing the same thing over and over, even though its doing nothing 99% of the time
hmm but if there will be no loop it will just returns and wont check messages again
You need to rethink the way you're doing this or at least add a sleep(10) in there
Event based execution would be prefered over just adding sleep
i mean i am thinking to get rid of Sening thread and call it into main loop
@Hjorthenify well this reduce from 13 to 0
tnx a lot
i mean Sleep
11:37
Even though it might seem fixed, you might still want to rethink how you're doing this :P
u mean try to aboid infinite loops ?
Yeah and avoid iterating when nothing has changed since last time

Not to mention, going to school specifically for game programming, as opposed to general computer science, is not recommended. (The former locks you into career path that may not be as great as advertised, while the latter allows the former career, but with all the other options)
anything involving moderate physics is complicated... I think(because I can't do math)
Yeah seriously.
Actually mimicking physics for a top down 2d car is a lot more difficult than a 3d car
Like ridiculously more difficult. I wish gta1 source would have leaked.
inertia... INERTIA! throws up violently t...torque... QUATERNION! ROTATION! heart stops pumping grrrr....
Ty to smart people, dumb people like me have this thing called library hugs directX::SimpleMath
so I am studying reflections in other games, then I found this.
So the moving objects don't get rendered to local reflection and also the local reflections get distorted-offcenter if I looked at it too far stiff angles
Sie
Sie
18:06
Is that some kind of cubemap maybe?
How to do zooming ?
I hardly think so because they also have "just skybox reflection" if you turn off local reflection
that one is just skybox reflection
and for non-static objects I think they are doing screen-space based reflection
like here in this example you can see the chair being reflected
but here as I move down my aim, as the chair goes out of my sight, so does the reflection
Actually... I am not sure the moving objects do not get rendered not because I cannot see them but because my view angle is orthogonal?
Sie
Sie

"...All the cubemaps of the level are stored within an array, there are several dozens of them but here are the 5 main contributors to this scene (the cubemaps within this room)...A pixel shader reads from the depth, normal, specular buffers, looks-up in the cluster structure which cubemaps influence the pixel (the closer the cubemap, the stronger its influence) and generates a static reflection map"
So that means you cannot have true reflections for even not moving static objects reflecting other static non moving objects?
@JoshPetrie so in my irc client, I need to open a seperate server? I'm on freenode.

and big endian; much nicer in assembly
I learned how CPU operates
yeah
6502 had 3 registers, A, X, Y
haha
one byte's worth of flags
I took a asm course at University, our final exam was to write a word processor
19:47
ooh
that was not a good exam.. fucken shitty teacher didn't want to design an exam so gives us that made up shit
no one was able to finish it in 3 hours
and we had other exams that day
:(
you can't write a word processor in 3 hours unless you're really fucking good
in ASM
yeah
he wanted a search, search and replace, and some other randoms
19:48
Fut The Wuck
yeah it was beyond nuts lol
Afterwards he said he designed it so that no one would finish on purpose.
:(
That was bullshit I think
i found one of my first .net apps I ever made
looking at it now, it is pretty bad, lol
2004
:D
I doubt I could dig up the old stuff I used to work on... It was hosted on Geocities, so...
19:52
also had a web interface for it
Never done anything with .NET either, for that matter.
I started with 1.0 --- I haven't really used past 4.5 though since my work doesn't
:D
.NET has very nice container classes.
I love .net
and I'm happy to see it has a potentially bright future
I'm eager to see the new .net core come to maturity though.
