Tallowmere, coming to Wii U on Sept 1: tallowmere.com/wii-u
14
Just got it all signed off by Nintendo :D
@ChrisMcFarland nice. And I just got past room 60 a few weeks ago :D
Well done!
kinda sad there's no way (that I know of) to save the kitty
tried saving keys for it
haha yeah, would be cool to have an alternate solution to that conflict
he'll be back though :)
01:12
something something 9 lives
gotta reproduce more kittens somehow

2 hours later…
02:44
@ChrisMcFarland Nice!!
03:03
Struggling to do a relatively simple math problem... Sigh.
Only not simple because there's too many possible exceptions to it...

06:31
Good morning
08:51
I've been waiting on unity to convert a 4.6 project to a 5.x project for 40 mins now
wtf is up with that
09:04
converting your scripts :S?
that seems like too much time
user92578
can you guys get to GD.net?
gamedev.net loads for me
user92578
I can't get there, by browsing protection blocks the site and if I manually allow it I end up in one of those domain holder ad sites
user92578
I keep having these issues
user92578
I found that the issue I had with surge was also caused by this
09:15
Can you change your DNS?
user92578
Probably
@UriPopov ouch, hope you had backups
user92578
seems to work now
user92578
with the dns that is
09:20
unity upgrades are pretty unreliable in my cases
:(
Unity can be very fragile
Scripts are fine they just started throwing warnings about depricated stuff. For some reason it went and ReImported all of the sprites and animations. This was a fairly big project and it reimported even the ones that not being used in the game.
all of that so I can steal 1 prefab from that project and place it in my new one :D
09:39
@UriPopov told you to backup
I've got backups of the backUps man
its all backed up on my backup drive
@UriPopov zip bomb?
Jon
Jon
It's all backed up on the same pc in the same location. Safe
Some high profile servers at work had off site hot spares
I've got 3 backup places. I'm super cautious D:
Jon
Jon
Damn annoying to update
09:44
heh
what no. The backup of the backup is on a remote drive duh
a private remote drive mind you
not some cloud storage bull
oh there is another backup in my private megaupload repo
but that is just full of builds not actual source code
@arda what does a zip bomb have to do with this ?
@UriPopov backuping a backup inside a backup will end up being huge
I was going for the Xzibit meme I just have seperate copies of the same backUps on different locations
man, I remember back on Windows 95 I think it was, parents needed a few documents backed up cuz we needed to reformat and reinstall Windows cuz it was being stupid.
Ended up buying WinZip and created a zip archive that spanned 20 floppy disks
and then when it came time to restore the single zip off of all the disks, one of the floppies was corrupt lol
bad times
09:51
yeah, those were the days
now it's like, eh, 1 terabyte of storage online for cheap? okay
10:04
Cool read - news.digipen.edu/alumni/ryan-chew-team-overwatch - Ever since he first played The Lost Vikings by Blizzard Entertainment (the company was called Silicon & Synapse back then), it had always been one of Ryan Chew’s dreams to work at the legendary game studio. Now, the 30-year-old DigiPen graduate is on the frontlines of Blizzard’s development team behind their latest smash-hit title, Overwatch.

Morning guys

Good morning
blizz gettin ddosed by those cheaters they banned (they think)
jesus people are shitheads
gotta head out talk later
I saw messages like "can we sue blizz for banning us?"
DH.
DH.
11:00
Answer them "Yeah, totally, go for it man!"
So they can lose the lawsuit and will lose even more money paying a lawyer
yeah frckin ddos
was having trouble even loading Blizzard's website :(
too many hurt butts
DH.
DH.
Blizzard needs to make W4 soon, I need a good RTS to play
Last C&C4 was shit, the new C&C was cancelled, SC2 is almost dead because MOBA and W3 is too old
^^^^^^^^^^
I think there was a project recreating wc3 in the sc2 engine
dont know what happened to it
11:17
I want diablo 4 or a d3 expansion
11:48
between D3, Path of Exile, and Grim Dawn, it's a pretty good mix to satisfy the action RPG itch
DH.
DH.
I played that indie, Adventures of Van Helsing, it's a good one too
nice, that one looks pretty cool
Victor Vran is another cool ARPG
made in Bulgaria too :D
DH.
DH.
Oh I took a look at this one too, came out on Steam recently right?

1 hour later…
13:10
Diablo 4 is like... 2024 or something
D1 - 1996
D2 - 2000
D3 - 2012
D4 - 2024
that's being generous. It could be
D1 - 1996
D2 - 2000
D3 - 2012
D4 - 2048
D3 - D2 = (D2 - D1) * 3
using that formula you get 2048 for D4
DH.
DH.
Seeing the wait we are having for a W4, 2048 seems feasible
We don't even know if they will make W4
like when they made W3FT, there were no announcements, but they immediately started work on SC2
but if you watched the W3 credits long enough, some marines and hydralisks came out
kind of a hint I guess.
13:24
hah
Starcraft early version in the W2 engine.
pretty seriously fugly
I love development screenshots like this
god damn that is ugly
user92578
13:40
All right, my decal rendering fix hack has broken
user92578
Who could have guessed that manually fixing 1px rendering artifacts wasn't a great idea
user92578
oh man I have no clue how to fix it properly
There are 157 SE sites. If you sign up to every single one of them your total rep would go to 15.7k... noice
Hello?
Anyone?
no?
Guys?
14:10
@Tyyppi_77 What's the problem?
problem with the ternary operator?
14:27
nice try
the name change
How much VRAM would a 2048x2048 32-bit color texture use? 2048x2048x4bytes=16Mbytes?
Sounds like you're right William, though I don't know for sure
I'm a real noob with shit like that
14:33
Yeah, me too.
14:53
Hahaha Just got lots of free st00f
Signing up to every site
Gives you alot of rep
I have like 6k
haha Kotaku called Elder Scrolls Legends "Brown Hearthstone"
DH.
DH.
Fair enough
Seeing that they are creating a card game just because Hearthstone went well
lots of people doing that

Humongous Entertainment / Pajama Sam video is almost done. Main commentary is done. All I gotta do now is edit and get those answers back from Mr. Dawson.
user92578
@Almo smooth!
Humongous... Moonbase Commander. One of the best turn-based games ever
Sie
Sie
Ya. The video is mainly focused on Pajama Sam but I will likely be doing videos on their other works.
It's kind of sad. HE was tossed around quite a bit and the company as well as some classic franchises are stuck in limbo.

@WilliamMariager If I'm not at the corners of a level, my decal render texture gets rendered one pixel off in both axes (axis? axises? idk)
MBC was supposedly a home project, and they noticed everyone was playing it at lunch. so they published. but parent company insisted on the Space Camp sweepstakes and skinning it for a younger audience despite being a seriously hardcore strategy game.
Sie
Sie
@Almo The two co-founders did try to start a new company and did. They released only 6 games. Probably because one of the co-founders decided to defraud a bank for $1.4-$1.5 million dollars.
@Tyyppi_77 That sounds peculiar :P

Shelley Day is a former producer of video games. She began her career in 1985 with Electronic Arts. After leaving LucasArts, she founded Humongous Entertainment with colleague Ron Gilbert. She also worked for Accolade, Taito, and LucasArts before cofounding Humongous Entertainment. She created the famous Putt-Putt character as a bedtime story for her son, which became a series of popular children's video games. In 1999 she was listed on Time Magazine as one of the "Cyber Elite". She also assisted in the development of Humongous's brand, Cavedog Entertainment. After leaving Humongous, she founded...
user92578
15:16
@WilliamMariager Oh yeah, either my rendering code is somehow flawed or SDL does something odd behind the scenes I have not accounted for
Jon
Jon
Yeah she knew Ron fucken Gilbert
user92578
Basically if the level camera offset has any decimal places, it fucks everything up
Jon
Jon
Pretty sure that had something to do with her success
user92578
At the borders it's clamped to integer positions, so there's no trouble
Jon
Jon
Also Ron Gilbert is hugely fat now
Oh wait is he fat or not
Impossible to tell the guy changes weight like crazy
Sie
Sie
15:20
Did anyone of you play any of the Pajama Sam games? They were basically my first experience with PC gaming outside of like Solitare lol.
@Sie oh shit
I have not
Sie
Sie
Ya. She claimed Disney Interactive was going to buy a part of their new company which isn't so unbelievable at first.
wow
at present I am working on "Fan Ball", some thing like this kind of game play
in this I need to move continuously fan and ball comes from the top direction
I need to throw it to open side of wall
even in this I need to balance ball multiple time
if I can't able to get ball outside wall then it collide with wall and other surface and one more time come towards ground
and if you loose to catch that then it will collider with sharpen object and its game over
so this is actual game play, I am facing 2 problem in this
1) I used wheel joint to give rotation to fan but when ball collide with fan it get slower for some time
I want to move ball at same speed always
2) fan has dragging facility by touch, so I am using transform.position for this purpose but its creates jittery movement of fan
user4704
15:39
@SeanBean Association bonuses generally don't count for things.
and its mostly because wheel joint can't able to function well at same time
so please give me suggestions in this
@Jon can you able to give me some hints in this?
user92578
So instead of simply casting the coordinates to ints, I switched to rounding, and now the decal map isn't offset
user92578
Is this expected? Or am I just lucky?
user4704
Depends.
user92578
From what I could gather a basic cast seems to be what people are going for generally
user4704
15:46
Casting is almost always a truncation of the decimal points (that is, dropping them).
user4704
Rounding usually goes towards or away from zero.
user92578
Yeah truncation is the word I was looking to use actually
user4704
So those things can be different for certain numbers, and when crossing zero.
user4704
(4.9 casts to 4, probably rounds to 5)
user92578
Yeah, exactly, and apparently that change seems to fix my rendering issue
user92578
15:48
Which to me is a little odd, as people generally seemed to suggest simply truncating the position
user92578
I can't seem to notice any downsides with rounding though
16:20
The only time I've seen truncating causing problems in grids is if you allow negative space.
floor
 1.5 =  1
 0.5 =  0
-0.5 = -1
-1.5 = -2

trunc
 1.5 =  1
 0.5 =  0
-0.5 = 0
-1.5 = -1
user92578
I had rendering issues with flooring, because negative coordinates
user92578
So I switched to truncating
user92578
And now I use rounding
Truncating is very unsafe if you have negative values and you expect it to behave consistently. :)
user92578
I found that to happen when flooring
16:24
I think your flooring function is broken :P
user92578
Because floor makes numbers bigger when they are negative, and smaller when they are positive
user92578
Hence resulting in in-consistent rendering positions
It doesn't make them bigger ...
Well, in length maybe, but that's how it's supposed to work. :P
user92578
Floor -1.5 = -1
No, that's not how floor works.
user92578
16:25
wait that's true
user92578
that's the behaviour I wanted, which is weird
user92578
truncating totally fixed my rendering issues though back in the day
user92578
caused by negative positions ending up in wrong values
user92578
Man I don't know
I think you might've had another underlying issue.
user92578
16:27
I don't think so...
user92578
I've spent way too much fighting with this
user92578
I'd love to have used SDL for resolution scaling
user92578
But damn was their implementation so buggy

It's cool I'm here on behalf of Jesus Christmas
no man's sky is looking pretty shitty
"Everything in the world, down to the tiniest pebble is procedurally generated" -- leaked video shows clearly that you cannot fly into a sun -- it is part of a skybox
Which makes you wonder -- what else is part of the skybox?
And the gameplay that they so didn't want to talk about
Is literally blowing up rocks -- getting material -- upgrade ship... rinse and repeat until you get to the hardest planets
The multiplayer also, that they don't want to talk about -- and the only thing they said about it was that "You will more than likely never see another person since it is so big"
So what is it? Is it actually mulitiplayer? Can I try to find someone, or is it literally single player with data on a server? Why do they have to be so damn shady.
Whoever pre-ordered this game is a damn fool.
@Jon +1 to all your points
I wouldn't pay a dime to a game that revealed pretty much nothing before release
user4704
@Jon My take is that when the game was started, that kind of thing was the goal. Then it got picked up by Sony, who (probably rightly) pointed out that there is no redeeming gameplay value there, and mandated some changes.
Jon
Jon
I personally think they didn't really know what the game was going to be
user4704
Right. "Procedurally generated everything" isn't really a game in-and-of-itself, and that's mostly what I recall of it before the Sony thing.
Jon
Jon
remaking tabs in 2d
18:39
@Jon seems interesting. What is that?
Jon
Jon
Totally Realistic Battle Simulator
the 3d one looks really fun, so i figured I"d prototype it in 2d
well, put my own spin on it of course
also, mobile
I blame you for having to listen to extremely annoying youtubers. youtube.com/watch?v=yxUbfUnOusI
Jon
Jon
hehe, yeah the game looks really fun
in a stupid way
i thought, what if you really made it more tactical
with missions like take over a castle
the UI is simple as shit -- just drop units while staying under budget
anyways, pretty sure i'm gonna make that after gorb
It is not my thing, but have fun developing :)
I repeat, Jon is a gamedev monster.
I swear google is intelligent. I type "totally" into it, and it suggests "accurate battle simulator"
earlier at physio, she said I had "frozen shoulder" I google, type frozen, "shoulder" is #3 suggestion
Jon
Jon
18:49
accurate yeah, lol
i'm pretty sure i'd prefer your 2d version
Jon
Jon
I have a bunch of ideas
If you set a "leader", he will control people in his range
this will form groups
if the leader is killed, the group disbands
a group is much more cohesive -- and will attack in a group and so on
I like this idea
Jon
Jon
don't steal it
lmao -- its gonna be a lot of work.
i got my prototype done though, which has a nice little framework to build off of
haha no trouble, I won't steal it :)
Gotta make my damned asteroids game
I'll post playables here for people to try once I have something that works
Jon
Jon
18:59
do a day prototype
i already prototyped this 20 years ago, I'll just be rewriting the gameplay parts
what will be different is the special weapons stuff
Jon
Jon
cool
can't wait
looking forward to getting to do some design work again
tuning the weapons to be fun will be cool
I'm gonna do "the mauler cannon" which is a riff on the Druuge Mauler from Star Control II.
you shoot this powerful bullet, and it kicks your ship backward.
the best way to fly around with the Mauler in SCII was just to shoot the opposite direction you wanted to go
since it kicked way harder than the ship's normal thrusters.
SCII limited stuff with power (like mana) and the mauler could get extra power by throwing the crew memebers (who were slaves) into the furnace
crew were your hitpoints
that game was fucking awesome, by the way
Jon
Jon
19:12
i guess its one of those games that I will never play but watch on youtube
oh wow proc gen
they were using perlin noise before it was cool
@Almo I find Facebook scary like that too. I met a guy at Nordic Game Jam, when I came back, it had him as a suggested friend.
@WilliamMariager yah, both are scary.
haha woa
Yeah, I guess it must've been a proximity thing, but I can't figure out why it suggested him specifically.
StarCon2 was one of the few games I've played that I thought had really good writing
19:20
@WilliamMariager FACEBOOK IS SPYING ON YOU
Well, considering I'm feeding it my entire life, I'm not really giving it a chance not to spy. :P
/puts on tinfoil hat
What tinfoil hat? That's facebooks entire purpose
Remember: The person paying for it gets the product. If you don't pay for it then you are the product
If I pay @Jon to be the product, what does that make me?
A pimp?
@WilliamMariager please
I'm not going to flag that, but it is likely that someone else might
Jon
Jon
19:33
what kind of product?
@arda Should I have written human trafficker instead?
@Jon The kind people are willing to pay for. Not sure it's something you can really do.
Jon
Jon
sure
how much?
How much do I want to pay? Or how much do I want people to be willing to pay for you as a product?
Jon
Jon
How much can I get?
Oh, I'm not going to pay. You need to convince the people!
Jon
Jon
20:11
1$ i will let you touch my butt
2$ you can peek into my source code for 10 seconds
5$ you can eat a cracker with me on webcam.
@Jon for crackers +/u/dogetipbot 5CAD verify
Jon
Jon
a single cracker
i wonder how much money I could make eating crackers on cam for 5$ a pop
- what other shit you sellin'?
- all kinds of shit. but this shit here... this kind of shit sells itself.

Q: Approximating particles with with nebula

AnvakaI have a 2d galaxy where each star is rendered a particle: I'd like to approximate it with nebula, so that instead of seeing lots of tiny dots from afar, users will see lots smooth light in the area. Something like this: I'm more interested in technology-agnostic solution which accurately r...
