05:37
Quiet night tonight then.

2 hours later…
07:40
@KevinvanderVelden Seems obvious to me, it would be ambiguous on systems where the pointer size is also the int size. Should it clamp to the last byte, or wrap around to address 0?
It's nice that people are trying to interact with this question as if the user made an honest mistake: gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/108600/…
But uuh, that's a spambot if I ever saw one (See: name, link in profile) CC @JoshPetrie
Also, morning @Ali.S
@MickLH erm yes, I was being sarcastic. There was a bug which caused my code to copy the size of the next highest pool worth of bytes. So it tried to copy to the largest "pool" (malloc-ing it), it would try to copy INT_MAX worth of bytes out of a small pool
However memcpy on a buffer large enough should be fine with INT_MAX, assuming you're on a 64bit build
(memcpy takes size_t which is pointer sized)
08:00
@KevinvanderVelden hey there

1 hour later…
09:17
suuuuuuup

1 hour later…
10:20
hello
@KevinvanderVelden i have return issue
any one knows js perfectly
user92578
Just ask
i am able to get the value that i returned from my ajax event mysql query in node js
its means the var is not modified but i am getting value in server side
i have tried every thing one week in same problem
user92578
I myself have no experience in any of those tools you're using, but I have no idea what's actually wrong.
user92578
Could you elaborate a bit more?
@ujwaldhakal noone knows anything perfectly
10:28
want to see my code a bit
var username;
function check_username_by_id(id) {

connection.query('use games');
var query3 ="SELECT `username` FROM `users` WHERE `id` ="+id;
connection.query(query3, function(err, rows){
if(err) {
throw err;

}
else{

username = rows[0].username;

}

});

return username;

}

function testing(data){

return check_username_by_id(data);
}

socket.on('mysql',function(data){
//id means the one who should get the message

socket.emit('success',{'id':testing(data)});

});
So, what's the problem?
Also, lunch grabbing time, cya in a bit
first value will come in mysql socket.on event then emit the success event then testing(data) wil be called which will call check_usrename_by_id)
kevin
value is not changing
return username should be some username
but i am getttiing empty
the else condition is running in check username by id
user92578
Why is username not local to the function?
user92578
Is there a valid username in rows[0]?
user92578
Is the connection valid?
user92578
10:35
Should the query end with ";"?
user92578
Otherwise the code looks valid to me.
user92578
So I'd guess it's a socket/connection/database problem.
user92578
But then again I have no experience in this stuff.
11:22
everything is running
@Lokkij yay electrons
Boo naked singularity
but just not getting value of return
not*
Just spend roughly 2 hours cleaning my PC..
But hey now my fan works again :P
Apparently, to get to the main fan you have to disconnect the battery, harddrive, WLAN component, RAM, Harddrive og discdrive, then disconnect the keyboard, motherboard and finally you get to remove the power supply, which has the fan underneath it. Cuz you know.. Laptops.
I was gonna go wtf, but then laptops
Yeah makes sense
11:34
Couldn't get it to work the first time I assembled it again as well
Turns out there is a hidden zif connector underneat the motherboard, which connects the powersupply to the motherboard.
You have about 1cm of space to connect the damn thing in

its evening here
Same here
but morning @Pip I almost pinged you when my PC didn't start :P
pip check i think your clock's battery down

12:14
heh, lol
I would have helped if I was awake
Haha well good think I managed to fix it myself
Pip
Pip
@Lokkij huh, that's awesome
yeah, good for you!
@Lokkij Oh wow..
What tool is that?
Pip
Pip
12:29
Eclipse for C++ I think
It is
argh
Ughh..
I needed openGL ES for something (2.0) but I gave up in the end (Mesa wanted me to change xorg.conf, we don't touch the precious) so I thought "sod it" and wrote a software renderer.
How do you write shaders like that in C++?
12:32
I don't get the question
Pip
Pip
@AlecTeal exactly. We don't touch the xorg.conf
@Hjorthenify Shaders aren't written in C++.
This isn't a new project btw, I did this like 8 months ago (got the version control to prove it)
@Almo the screenshot says otherwise, it'd also be easy enough to stick datatypes in there that mean you can export a shader from code (which is actually what I do to get GLSL versions)
@almo I know, but that syntax.. Looks C++, nothing like the GLSL I've done before
Simple, write a software renderer
12:35
Once again, it is C++
oh ok

Did kinda expect more like "it actually works"
Or "how many FPS?" then I could reply "80-350 depending on the CPU"

Pip
I kinda want to learn how to render things in OpenGL and C++ and stuff
any recommendations on how to get started?
12:38
Raytracing? :)
Yeah, search for "how to get started with [thing that you want to do]"
Oh wait you meant hardware accelerated. Ignore raytracing
Pip
Pip
I meant OpenGL in general
Pip
Pip
I did a thing with a triangle and colors that's on github
oh nice, thanks Hjor
12:40
Best site I know of :)
Crazy that there are websites for stuff
Also no, the wiki there is pretty crap. The superbible is pretty good
user92578
What pronoun would I use to refer to the narrator of a book?
user92578
As I do not know the gender of the narrator.
user92578
Not that it really matters tough.
When do you refer to the narrator of a book?
12:49
if you don't know gender, you can randomly pick him or her, or if you don't want people to think you know the gender, then use "they"
Or use "the author"
"they" is an acceptable singular pronoun for someone of undefined gender.
user92578
No but the author is not the same thing as the narrator
According to those people @Almo - I prefer the term "it"
user92578
Do I still add the "s" to the verb when using "they"?
12:50
"it" isn't very good because it implies an inanimate object, not a person
user92578
Sorry for these stupid questions
no it's ok man
what verb
gimme an example
user92578
>However, the narrator does not reveal everything to the reader, but they still makes good…
user92578
No "s", right?
However, they do not reveal
but they still make good
user92578
12:51
Okay
user92578
Thanks
they, even when referring to multiple people, glom them into a kind of singular group.
it's a weird one, now that I think about it
user92578
It really is

Q: If a provider sees the last 4 characters of my password, can they see it in full?

rhymsyI have some domains/websites as well as emails with Bluehost. Every time I need support, they need the last 4 characters of my main password for the account. They cannot tell me how they store the password, so I am intrigued in how they could safely store my password(s) and still see the last ...

I so want to go comment "hunter2" but there are way too many comments.
user92578
Yeah they really are, I even made the "mistake" of choosing A-level Swedish, so I'm reading two A-level languages and then Finnish on top of it
user92578
I actually had to write a simple password cracker on my own to realize how hard brute-forcing them actually is.
hahah :D
12:55
Does anyone know how to make Maple stop being a pain?
Use mathematica.
;)
-1
A: Integrate C64 emulator with Game Center?

AlmoApple won't allow you to publish an emulator on iOS. It requires downloading and executing code to run a particular game, which is forbidden.

We have to use Maple..
someone downvoted me :(
@Hjorthenify yeah, I figured :)
I used maple in... 1996 I think.
@Tyyppi_77 you should really learn some elementary combinatorics
Like if you have a decision with m outcomes (the first letter) and another that has n outcomes regardless of the first decision, there are mn outcomes.
user92578
Well I'm not actually interested in that, I just had some extra time on a break at school and a Python interpreter at hand
12:56
Thus with just letters the number to bruteforce is 26^n which is INSANELY huge
user92578
Yeah I know that
@Almo and I agree with the downvote. The question was not about game center, it was about game center functionallity
+ caps + numbers = 62^n which is huge for small n
Your answer is irrelevant =p
Agreed, not an answer @Almo

Advanced Global Illumination in Unity5 OR Leveraging Unity5.2s Advanced Animation Features?? damn I wish there was a second slot for either of these! Im leaning towards animations
So, everyone downvote him so he can get the peer pressure badge? ;p
@KevinvanderVelden ok
user92578
@Joe I would probably too
It's Unity, so either way you're learning about dreams and false hope.
thanks
@KevinvanderVelden well it's not really irrelevant. If he coded all that shit and Apple rejected it due to my answer...
12:58
@Almo it's COMMENT worthy, but not rep-whore worthy.
That wasn't a rep-whore answer.
Then why wasn't it a comment?
I was trying to let them know that there's no reason to do that.
user92578
Oh also, did you guys know that bitcoin miners scan GitHub looking for Amazon server access keys so that they can use the servers for their own mining while maxing out the owners credit card?
This is why we have comments.
@Tyyppi_77 yes I did. 2 or 3 years ago when that happened.
12:59
@Almo eeh, true. Relevent to the asker, not relevant to the specific question though =p
ok, let me explain "rep-whore". An RW answer is deliberately answering JUST TO GET REP. I was not doing that. Maybe the answer is not a good one and should be deleted. But I did not do it to whore rep.
user92578
Oh, I just learnt about that yesterday.
user92578
I'm always looking to rep-whore.
Joe
Joe
@Almo seems like a legitimate answer to the question if its accurate, .: it should be an answer imo
@Almo it should be a comment. If you were not whoring for rep then as an SE rule: useful but off topic things should be comments.
Notice the useful requirements, so things like "I like potatoes" is neither commentworthy nor answer worthy to that question.
13:02

13:02
@AlecTeal What do you have against writing emulators? =p
Because emulators are so much more than virtual machines, and there are enough crap emulators.
Joe
Joe
his father was killed by an emulator or this ^
Especially as most emulatable consoles are from the code-ninjas who used undefined behaviour to kick bottom. (Snes graphics timing to implement shadows for example)
@AlecTeal yes, I'm aware, it's still fun to do
@Tyyppi_77 I defintitely rep-whore at times.
20
A: Why does !x change 1 and 0 to true / false

AlmoBecause the ! operator coerces the value to a bool when it does its job.

that's one of my rep-whore answers.
13:04
No @KevinvanderVelden it is soul destroying. There are already good, ACCURATE, SNES emulators for example, unless you want to start a massive exodus ALONE into the chip schematics of the SNES - go write a Java VM!
Got in there REALLY fast. :)
@AlecTeal hmm that's fun too!
@Almo stop linking answers, we get it, you'll do stuff for an upvote.
I'll link answers if I want.

A: Does MySQL foreign_key_checks affect the entire database?

AlmoIt is session-based. Do a test to be sure, but that's my understanding of it.

Ignored for 30 minutes.

All right!

A: What does it mean when you check on "Recursive" in Header Search Paths

AlmoIf you give Xcode a path to use for headers, it will check that path when you use an #include or #import statement. If the file isn't there, it quits. If you have the path set as "recursive", Xcode will search folders it finds there if it doesn't find the file.

hahah

Kevin van der VeldenYou can change your contact email address via the steam client. Menubar -> Steam -> Settings -> Change Contact Email Address. For security reasons you will need to log in to steam and have access to the old email address.

What I hate is when a question gets closed, but if you post it again it gets a steady income of upvotes and lots of views because it's actually a massive problem, for example: stackoverflow.com/questions/20357033/…
What I love is when I get more rep than the guy with the tick stackoverflow.com/questions/20290524/…

A: Why are gold mirrors yellow?

Alec TealI've made this into an answer because it's too long for a comment, and I really want to show the pictures. It is tempting to think of visible light as "close enough" to (near by wavelengths) and to conclude that "yes, actually, the yellow does affect it. I want a mirror without an obvious tint" ...

I found that one on the hot questions a long time ago and already upvoted it. nice answer.

@Tyyppi_77 :P
I didn't even answer the question!
Okay so here's a genuine link, I recently answered gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/108348/… this question but I've gotten absolutely nothing (no comments.....) from it. I suppose not-downs are good but what do you think?
neato: this tells you if any of your questions are used as links for saying other questions are dupes.
I have one

^
@AlecTeal I'd say put the answer here, but import the images for your math in.
kind of a hassle though :(
@Almo I am not going to EVER be bothered to do that.
hahha ok :)
If someone's like "Hey, I won't let you help me" I'll be like silently downvote the question
I wonder why it doesn't support math markup
if they have it for one SE site, why isn't it on all of them
13:19
@Almo I like Mediawiki's ability to do boxes, tables, headings and such. If I do end up posting a lot here rather than 10 fragmented answers on parts of pathfinding say I'd rather do one definitive reference for it.
yeah
Someone was like "you just want the pageviews" on the MathSE site and I was like "Yeah, those 13 page views give my life meaning"

@AlecTeal I most certainly don't think that you've got a problem, that's for sure.

user92578

@Hjorthenify I'd love not to.
@Tyyppi_77 it's funny because that is the only way to exit skype
Unless you want to log off and then exit
user92578
Yeah, that was my goal :D
user92578
13:36
Everytime you accidentally open it
I used to have taskkill -im "Skype.exe" -f saved in my run dialog
I use my run dialog way too much for that =p
@KevinvanderVelden can't you right click the skype icon in the system tray and hit "quit"?
@KevinvanderVelden Best feature in Windows :D
Not as much since win 7 and the pinned taskbar things, that is a pretty good feature
@Almo well you can, but it doesn't actually do anything
13:37
the skype icon goes away
There is a close window button, which closes the window. Except if it's the main window in which case it doesn't do anything
@KevinvanderVelden Pinned taskbar?
@Almo hmm, what version of skype do you have? I don't think the there's a skype icon in the system tray anymore
I'm not at my home computer though so
I have Skype in the system tray. I hit quit on it, and skype.exe disappears from task manager
@Hjorthenify yeah, you can pin icons on the task bar so that they stay there even if the program isn't running
13:39
this is win 7
skype 7.8.0.102
Ooo that feature
I haven't really used that
right clicking the taskbar icon has "quit skype" in it as well
maybe something changed on the version you have :(
I'll check at home but they removed the "quit skype" functionallity a while ago I think

This place is way nicer than anticipated
user92578
13:41
So maybe something like this:
user92578
user92578
But then I need to list the existing actions...
"TriggerActionSpawn" ?
user92578
"Trigger Action Spawn"
What does that do?
user92578
13:50
It's an action that you attach to a trigger and then once the player enters that trigger, the action is executed and an entity is spawned
user92578
That's pretty much my corresponding element to scripting
user92578
Not as flexible, but quite nice actually
user92578
But yeah this UI stuff is quite annoying to add
user92578
14:06
So I think I'll need two list boxes
user92578
One for choosing the type of a new action that I want to add
user92578
And one for editing all the pre-existing ones
Pip
Pip
@Hjorthenify I do
user92578
shudder
Pip
Pip
@KevinvanderVelden @Almo @Hjorthenify Yeah, I have the "Quit Skype" functionality on both Windows and Linux versions.
user92578
I might need to add just a "list view"
user92578
So that the preexisting actions would all be visible at once on top of that listbox
14:38
here's some techno for you guys soundcloud.com/plaster/nemesis-ep

Yeah I really should do that
