Jon
00:22
my attempt at trying to animate with unity5
lol
:)
@IcyDefiance you htere?
yeah, but I have some surprise homework to burn out :(
ok no problem :)
good luck with it :)
Pip
Pip
@Wardy I edited your answer.... I'm surprised at how bad your grammar/conventions were D:<
@Jon lol
00:54
@Pip Did you... not see his grammar.
2
hahahaha
that's a good one
Pip
Pip
lol
How're you @MickLH?
Depends... if you want to know because you think you might need to give me things I want, I'm so fucked please help
But yeah I'm feeling great
Pip
Pip
Cool
I just turned in an idiotic natural language processing lab for APCS :/
Did you get to markov chains yet?
Pip
Pip
00:57
Was extremely stupid.... there was >9000 times that we were made to duplicate code.... nested if statements, if/else if chains....
We're done here, I think the teacher is trying to fill time before exams
oic
I had a lame assignment like that once, they were obviously trying to get us to make a bunch of different functions
I just made a huge horrible mess of ifs and gotos instead, was like 1/3rd as long
and one more message just to make the box bigger, mmmm visible rep
I'm taking a beginner C++ class this semester, because it's required for that stupid piece of paper that supposedly makes people hire me. first assignment, "make this program", so I did. next assignment, "make this program with classes", so I turned in the same program again because I had already done that on the first one.
Pip
Pip
lol
@MickLH lol
the prof knows me and knows I can program, and gave me full credit on both. I wonder if it amused him as much as it did me.
Pip
Pip
:D
I hate formal labs :/
01:04
lol @IcyDefiance
I've had that experience before, a friend of mine asked me for help on his intro to java class
I was lazy, so I just read the assignment and noticed it was easy to parse the assignment text itself.
I spit out a program that read the assignment and generated Java code to pass
It accidentally worked on the entire workload for that quarter
convenient book
Pip
Pip
Hahaha
I'm procrastinating doing a formal lab right now.... not fun at all
@Pip What's the lab about pip come on
Pip
Pip
"Investigating Muscle Fatigue"
hahaha
Pip
Pip
01:08
doing a unit about ATP and cellular respiration :/
"define fermentation"
Do you get to come up with the experiment?
Pip
Pip
"difference between aerobic respiration and anaerobic respiration"
Nope
aw
Most people fail royally at that anyways
Pip
Pip
had to do a stupid thing the teacher made up (did it in class though, so that's a perk)
God damnit I lost the assignment sheet
D:<
I have a table of data, but not that. great.
lol oops, I'm not at work right now
Pip
Pip
01:11
whoops... that's a bad thing to forget
Well I think it'll be ok, I setup an experiment yesterday and nobody tended to it
All the techs had the "I thought he had it" story
So they can just do that today
I'm gonna put a hidden camera aiming at the whiteboard
Pip
Pip
lol
And if someone fucking erases something and forgets again I will fucking end them.
Pip
Pip
hahaha
That could have been a way... way bigger problem
Pip
Pip
01:15
Shitshitshitshit still can't find the assignment sheet
@Pip did you try looking for it where you left it?
Pip
Pip
Lol, I finally did
I know, that's why I asked now.
Pip
Pip
(whoosh)
lol
01:43
huh, microsoft's site is broken and won't download the Access 2013 Runtime. that means I can't test this homework program...
both annoying and convenient
guess I'll do it at school tomorrow
Pip
Pip
:(
Whoo, sections A and D complete!
two more to go for tonight (B and C, duh)
02:16
aight, now to figure out why YouCompleteMe isn't loading any names from header files...
Pip
Pip
lol
02:29
@SpartanDonut lost 6 in a row ranked hots :(
Pip
Pip
ouch
dropped 2 ranks :(
Pip
Pip
Alright, heading to bed. Guess I'm finishing this in the morning (PARENTS :/)
02:48
whoo I got YCM working for std libraries...but not for glfw3.h :'(
why is it so evil?!
03:04
because it's useful
In C++, the difficulties associated with seemingly irrelevant bullshit are directly proportional to the geometric mean of all the qualities you want to optimize.
lol that seems accurate
So if you want a useful program, then the annoyance is approximately equal to the usefulness
But if you want a fast, useful program... speed * usefulness
ooh pretty cool
why do I always have to miss it?
is it the working gameboy?
04:04
lol YCM works on the std libraries, and on my own libraries, but not on GLFW -.-
whatever, guess it's good enough
Joe
Joe
Days have past... Many Failures and some successes moving pixels!
if your game has higher fps than that gif, then it should be awesome :P
Joe
Joe
gfycat screws me over sometimes
but the attack animation is only 3 keyframes right now... needs about 5 more
soo ill see you guys next month
lol
have fun :D
@Joe awesome...!!!
Joe
Joe
04:11
im supposed to do player attack anim next...
idunwanna
haha thanks
Im actually wondering if any other method would have been more efficient than this
3d animation probably would have been faster...
MLM
MLM
With 3D, once you have your model is rigged (takes forever for me to get it right), animation is pretty easy
Joe
Joe
my first mistake here was drawing everything on one "layer"
day 2 i split everyframe out into seperate bodypart layers and after that i could work a bit faster
but idk still alot of redrawing
I havent done much of any animation, but this seems like an incredibly slow process
MLM
MLM
I think Unity has skeletal 2D stuff
Joe
Joe
pretty sure they do
Its on my list now
I need to figure out how to get the most amount of game... out of the least amount of animation...

2 hours later…
06:25
morning
@Joe you can use Spine for 2d skeletal animation esotericsoftware.com . It's awesome and has integration with unity

3 hours later…
Pip
Pip
09:50
pretty cool

Q: Where is ErrorCode List OpenIAB for Unity-plugin?

hatsune mikui canceled purchase in app. i thought to back errorcode "-1005". but, back errorcode "-1" for iOS... (Android is OK "-1005") please help me T_T

again >_<
Jon
Jon
10:52
@JohnPoison bah, you can do skeletal stuff directly in unity, if you dont mind shitty animatinos, lol
Cool thing about spine, you can try it for free
learn it
spine is awesome =)
Jon
Jon
Yeah, I am probably gonna buy it
I never done animation, so I was looking into bone style animation in unity 5
did this in like 2 minutes
So then I got thinking.. man this is the way to go
not based on that shit
but, the fact that you can animate with just 5 sprites instead of 200
not bad for a couple of minutes =)
Jon
Jon
its just keyframe animatino with curves
no bones in there
bones make life easier =)
Jon
Jon
10:56
Yeah, as well as IK
@JohnPoison did you buy spineÉ
@Jon nope, just played with it
Jon
Jon
I looked for a torrent of it, just so I could test the unity features of it
which I would promptly purchase if it was awesome as it shows in the videos
which is kinda a shitty thing to do i guess
I think the Unity way of animating in keyframes, is pretty awesome, if your animations are not overly complicated.
I'm trying to get my artist friend to buy Spine right now, lol
keyframes is the common way. Flash is doing animations with keyframes AFAIK
quite handy
especially for prototyping
Wow that unreal demo is awesome
Jon
Jon
where?
11:08
i would love to know how much of the detail is polys versus bump mapping.
the one above posted by Sword
Jon
Jon
Same demo, sink test
apparently in real time
glass shaders with refraction / reflection on each of the tables
mind literally blown
or figuratively
11:53
@Jon Have you tried procedural animation? Check out this video. You only need a handful of key frames and just interpolate the rest.
Jon
Jon
cool thanks
i had seen this video before
Pip
Pip
holy fuck I hate my teacher
Jon
Jon
12:31
Pip
Pip
God damn I hate her. "I turned them orange like comments in Java."
we are using fucking jGrasp
(I'm not, she is)
Jon
Jon
bring in oranges tomorrow
give her one , and say, look its just like java comments
Jon
Jon
grasp
should a gross word for a programming language
Pip
Pip
:D
Jon
Jon
12:34
jSnatch
Pip
Pip
Such stupidity. There's no reason to use that over sublime or something (or Eclipse, which is what I'm using)
She's stuck in the 1990s
Jon
Jon
Eclipse was killed off waddnit?
Pip
Pip
Got a law degree, taught algebra II (badly) for a while, and now is teaching CS
Nope
Jon
Jon
i must be thinking of something else
Pip
Pip
probably
Jon
Jon
12:35
I hear intelliJ is pretty good
never used it
Pip
Pip
Neither have I
Jon
Jon
ain't free.
GoPro killer.
i want one
Anyone hear about the movie Pixels?
Looks awesome, lol
Pip
Pip
I'll have to check it out
@Jon hey
Jon
Jon
hey
12:48
you visit the chat room on alternate days?
Jon
Jon
every fibbonacci sequenced day
and perhaps you keep resetting the count...
Jon
Jon
naw... seeya in 144 days
XD
Jon
Jon
what up
12:58
wasted my entire day today
Jon
Jon
at least its not your bday
there was a cricket match and I ended up following it the entire time
yeah it isn't.. Now there's some guilt.. I will spend some time to sort some bugs in code now
Jon
Jon
guilt, it gets the job done
good that I'm feeling bad about it ..
btw , the velovity part is sorted and I'm working on the collision detection now. It worked well with a single object but there's some stupidity going on with an array of objects... Need to look at that now..
Jon
Jon
that is great
13:19
@Sword Having a broken leg would be a great excuse to code some more on games (as opposed to my actual work project), actually.
Jon
Jon
i shattered my ankle 2 summers ago
plenty of time to code
@MartinSojka I can arrange a bat if you want?
Jon
Jon
13:36
wanna see an xray of my foot?
Joe
Joe
one of these things is not like the other
Jon
Jon
heh, pretty crazy
Joe
Joe
even a different color
Jon
Jon
yeah, it was summer
had the aircast on when I went out
i still don't get the xrays, they put screws everywhere
such alignment
Joe
Joe
14:01
@Chris feature request... new kind of consumable: "Ogre Potion" aoe enemy stun, make it happen!

Q: If you have too many badges, the number gets cut off

AlmoYou can see in this screen cap that Mr. Skeet's bronze badge count is cut off.

a suggestion please ; I was triggering a boolean variable to detect collison between my main sprite and the enemy. Now when I have multiple enemy sprites should I use an array of boolean variables or just the similar stuff(use a for loop and keep checking each object collision;using only a boolean variable) ..
A collision should probably fire an event, and the colliding objects respond when this happens.
Jon
Jon
yep
or, if you want to store collisions, and process them later, in the event you could store a pointer to the thing that hit you, and in an Update or LateUpdate type function, process the list.
Jon
Jon
14:03
you should probably check for collisions on every frame.. you can have a single boolean called IsColliding if you want
Or like almo said, a collection of objects you are colliding with
@Jon what if I told you , my variable is already named isColliding :D
for (EnemyCars enemy:enemyGroup) {
            enemy.update(deltaTime);
            collideRect = enemy.getRect();
            boolean isColliding = collideRect.overlaps(mainRect);
Jon
Jon
bool IsColliding { return List.Count > 0; }
possibly exception ^
what do you want to do when you collide?
Yesterday a corporate security email went out to the whole company about software use and personal device connectivity, etc. - apparently I've been breaking the rules about telecommuting for the last three years! Looks like I need some new equipment to work from home because connecting my personal PC to the company VPN is naughty.
@Jon stop scrolling(decelerate) and slide the main car.. All that works fine..
Jon
Jon
so
14:06
@SpartanDonut wow man
Silliness
Jon
Jon
is it a secure vpn?
I don't know much about the implementation
should these conditions come inside the for loop ; i.e if isColliding {do A} else : B . It works inside though; but the controls got weird..
Jon
Jon
do you use some form of physical token to log in?
14:08
No it's not multi factor if that's what you're asking
Jon
Jon
if (collideRect.overlaps(mainRect)) {
Decelerate();
Slide();
break; //prevent other collisions from being checked
}
something like that?
@SpartanDonut of course it would be...
@Jon should this come inside the for loop for "for enemy: Enemygroup " ??
Outside doesn't work though..
Jon
Jon
yes, inside.
@Sword I'm not saying it doesn't make sense. Point is everyone does it and so this is kind of a major disruption
@SpartanDonut as per the official rules , nobody would want it done via personal sysytems; but hell with it, everyone does it , unluckily you were spotted but within a span of time , you could start doing it again ..
@Jon thanks :)
14:15
@Sword I wasn't called out specifically
yeah it was a mail to everyone
Jon
Jon
They sent an email out a few years back to the top internet leeches in our department, only to the leechers, to warn them
One guy in my team was #2.. lol
there is a software called VPN hotspot shield ; it allocates a fake ip to ur pc..
Everyone does it and now everyone is being told to stop and no one has the means to actually work from home under the "new" rules
Except for the few people who have laptops
Jon
Jon
14:16
We use Entrust for VPN at my work
@Sword I don't know what you're going on about
Jon
Jon
requires a physical token, as well as a user/pass, and an encrypted connection
uhhh let it be; I am heading the other way :)
I'm not trying to get around policy. Just annoyed about the shakeup that's happened because of the policy. It will pass.
Joe
Joe
sounds like an intentional "no more work from home" policy change
14:20
Nah
Joe
Joe
then they gotta fork up and buy you a machine
Yep
Problem is I don't want a machine
but that is probably what will happen
Joe
Joe
and they will get you a laptop and instantly you will be on call 24 / 7
Jon
Jon
like me
Joe
Joe
14:22
its not "on call" but its implied at alot of places I think
The business unit I'm was given about 1 days worth of notice (they were told the communication was going out next week) but my manager is well aware of the impact it has on all of us and the management team was in process of working out concerns that were had from it. It's just the security team being hte security team.
Jon
Jon
dev support doesn't really need on-call people
^
Most everything I touch isn't considered mission critical
Jon
Jon
they just get me to work OT
Joe
Joe
well thats kinda cool
14:23
The stuff that is has strict change management policy and/or has DR / High Availability / etc.
Jon
Jon
the stuff I touch is mission critical
but its in dev
it goes through testing before reaching prod
Joe
Joe
separate department?
If a bug makes it to prod it's probably not a mission critical bug
Jon
Jon
yeah, we are huge
business analyst dept... testing dept... db dept... coder dept..
the whole 9 yards
even the coding groups are divided in frontend/backend
Joe
Joe
14:25
we got teams containing a few of each based on a goal "product 123" has ba, qa testers, db guy, devs
management etc
Jon
Jon
not all teams here are like that... i wanna stay on this one
some projects are pretty shitty, low budget, maintenance applications
you end up being a full stack dev
and tester, and business analyst... all for the same pay
did that for a while.. built up my rep.. hopefully i don't have to do that shit anymore.
Joe
Joe
I think its got its pros and cons
Jon
Jon
more cons... i hate dealing with clients.
Joe
Joe
true true
Jon
Jon
but yeah, maintenance projects are really really lame man
I wrote a entire reporting system for this maintenance project, on the side without telling my boss
because you can't add new shit to a maintenance project -- 6 months of working on this I showed them, and they got it passed
its in there now
just because I was bored.
14:32
wow android dev is confusing, if you're coming in cold. Just trying to create an activity so the damned app will start is tricky
Jon
Jon
just use a pre-made one :)
I understand this structure gives them the power to let one app use another app's activity
Jon
Jon
there are generators online too
it's just tricky
Joe
Joe
@Jon yea sometimes you need to go out on a limb for that stuff
14:33
I'm having licensing complaints from our client. I'm trying to do this as cleanly as possible. I'll go check for one of these generators; thanks for the tip.
Jon
Jon
Well I thought there was @Almo
I seem to recall trying some when I was trying to fix that tilt issue
which.. i still think Unity is wrong
because the BUG is still present in 5
BUG!!!! ITS A BUG GAWDAMNIT
I seriously don't get why it would be like that by design... it just doesn't make sense.
And yes, the bug was closed by Unity stating "by design"
:(
Jon
Jon
Some high rep. unity answers guy tried to explain it
didn't make sense... let me pull that up
wtf is karma on unity.answers?
14:40
do you guys know of any ecs framework using entity groups ?
Jon
Jon
entity groups?
grouping together entities according to their components instead of modelling systems
systems can be anything that operates on these groups
@Jon it's like rep here.
Jon
Jon
but cooler
can't get it to recognize the classname of the activity in the manifest
Pip
Pip
14:52
eyo
Jon
Jon
i had issues applying my own manifest @Almo.. but it was with the Unity generated java code
