8:00 PM
geez, java doesn't like linux as much as people say...took almost an hour to get it working
but now I have a minecraft server running on my laptop that I should be able to keep online 24/7, finally
instructions here if anyone wants to procrastinate and help me test it or something: icydev.net/new-minecraft-server

@IcyDefiance really? :S
I've never had any issues with Java on any platform
one of the few good damn things about it

it was easy once I actually followed the instructions instead of trying to extract the tar.gz with a gui, lol
the gui just fucked it all up

ah right

oh and I had to add it to $PATH, which wasn't in the instructions, but that only took 30 secs on google

well glad you got it sorted :D
I plan on wiping linux off my PC and sticking Windows 10 on there
here's to hoping my games work on it D:
they normally do a really good job of that to be fair

8:13 PM
why not install both?

SSD space is limited

@Pip nice :D

I'm not sure if all your games will work on 10 or not. I'd think most of them would, but apparently the last league patch broke it on 10, so I don't know.

8:27 PM
You know, it's pretty fun to get positive feedback on your game from the person who used to be your teacher in a game development class :)

a game developing class would be cool I think. I don't know of anything like that over here.
game development*

At... uuh, american equivalent would be college I think, there was an optional semester where you could choose game development
And one of my friends (who was in the same college but different education) kept friends with that teacher and now he's a friend of mine too =p

Living in Greece, I don't think there is a similar course in my uni.
kevin added anything new since yesterday?

8:47 PM
Nope
Only the decision to make a proper version of it
Consider the released version a prototype =p

9:38 PM
hmmm @Veritas interesting problem found
my mesh gen and my noise gen appear to be generating different regions
front left and back right in meshes obviously don't meet each other
I'm getting odd seams as a result because all my textures are jumbled up :(

not sure, I haven't seen the latest code
I'm reading up on haskell atm though so I can't help for a whole
while*

im not exactly sure what you could do tbh
some odd stuff going on with coord ranges

so my wife looks at the site (she's a graphic designer) and says "put a black bar there to divide things"
2 hours later, I still can't do this and not have these huge gaps either side of it.

seriously ?

border: 5px solid black;

9:48 PM
I can remove the huge gap above it, but not below it
Can't figure out how to remove gaps between .rows eitehr
you get some really nice grid shit from bootstrap, but then details become a nightmare.

<hr style="height: 10px; background: #000; width: 100%;" />
throw that in the markup somewhere

that's across the whole screen though

I guess I don't get the problem

needs to restrict to 8 columns' width

you trying to remove the space above the logo?

9:50 PM
so put it inside your div with that row class on it

the row class itself has huge padding on it i think

<div class="row">
   <hr style="height: 10px; background: #000; width: 100%;" />
</div>

the row class has a 35px margin on top and bottom
no padding

or just apply the styles to an empty row

what is the exact problem you're trying to solve, Almo?

9:51 PM
so it's the margin i need to get rid of?

<div class="row" style="height: 10px; background: #000; width: 100%;" />

just a minute

@Almo Sounds like this:

god I'm so pissed off right now

stop being pissed off and tell me the damn problem >:|

9:51 PM
@AidanMueller lol
thats typical css

@Almo If you're having problems, just be happy that ostriches don't fly...think about that for a second.

this page
the black bar has these huge gaps around it

okay yeah, just set the .row margin to 0
only problem is it'll also adjust other rows

just "margin: 0px;"?

@Almo You could use negative margins.

9:54 PM
so maybe give the bar div its own class

I have a special class for this thing

NEGATIVE MARGINS!

I got the top margin to go away but not the bottom one

this is madness

just putting "margin: 0;" in the row class should fix it
if not then something else is broken that isn't appearing on my end

9:55 PM
ok will try that

almo you got issues here

'cuz doing that fixed it for me

@Veritas This is sparta!

you're not filling the space correctly
seriously just remove bootstrap its causing you headaches

yeah margin doesn't do anything

9:57 PM
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who can't seem to get CSS to work.

are you changing the margin in the bootstrap css or your own file?

in my file

oh well there's your problem

.almo-black-bar {
    height: 3px;
  	margin: 0px;
	background-color: #000000;
}
i'm overriding it

okay, first, it's not using that class at all in the copy I'm seeing

9:58 PM
        <div class="section">
            <div class="container">
                <div class="row">
                    <div class="col-md-8 almo-black-bar"></div>
                </div>
            </div>
        </div>
yeah i have to reupload

okay, that's the second problem. replace "row" with that class and remove it from the other div
well actually
the "margin: 0" needs to be on the row div

gimme 2 mins gonna rewrite this correctly

the other parts of that class maybe not
fuck it you know what
easy way out

must have col-md-8 for it to line up with the other stuff
ooh
getting rid of the row seems to have fixed it
yup.
so I use containers/sections instead of rows
so there's no padding
or margin or whatever

lol yeah I was just testing that, but chrome's dev tools weren't cooperating
for future reference, open the page with chrome and hit F12

10:02 PM
ok

click the magnifying glass there, then select an element

except F12 is widgets in OSX
but i know what you mean
ok heading out for dinner
thanks for all your help guys

Jon
10:14 PM
i love germans

As it turns out, confusing yourself and subsequently turning yourself into a tree can be an effective defense mechanism.

Jon
hug a tree, live another day

@almo how do you want these items laid out ?
under the black bar ?

Hug the tree.. love the tree.. become the tree.

10:32 PM
suddenly am Maokai
now what

Swing your branches violently at your enemies.

currently my only enemies are in minecraft and I'm not a tree there
so...guess I'll just sit here

10:50 PM
> You feel nature experimenting on you. Don't worry, failures die fast.
Hmm.
Probably not good.

11:01 PM
I am reading on monads
http://i.memeful.com/media/post/BRkj4jM_700wa_0.gif

@almo try this (when you get back)
pushed the full page to ccoder.co.uk/files/almo.zip
just in case you get issues
right im off ... later all :)

11:41 PM
@Veritas pay attention to the bind operator
and return

i think i am getting the hang of it

Do you want a mini tutorial?

well sure if you have the time and you don't mind
but I think I can handle it

Well first of all, are you referring to Haskell monads or monads in general?
or some other monad?

haskell monads

11:54 PM
Alright, so what have you worked out so far?

from what I have picked up they are a way to chain operations
actually OMGtechy thanks for the offer but it's late and I think I should head to bed so that I can be more productive tomorrow morning.
