Huge ass spider just descended upon me
i was like gtfo
So Adventure Capitalist was running, and when I got home, my computer had rebooted. :P
what's adventure capitalist?
Just some random idle game :P
reminds me of when I used to leave X3 running with my AI scripts aha
taking a look on miniclip now
Joe
Joe
@Almo how does one "talk" to unity employees
21:03
we're a company that does all our work with Unity, so we have a weekly conference call with them
now I'm trying to fix framerate in the editor
and what a hassle
I've tried what people say works and it doesn't
Joe
Joe
how long have you been using unity?
What's the company?
set vsync to not, and application.targetframerate = 30
Behaviour Interactive
I don't know how long they've been using it since i've only been here about 10 months
@William'MindWorX'Mariager you don't have to leave it running
if you quit and come back, it calculates what you would have earned had you left it running
virtual villagers and its kin did that
@Almo Fancy smancy.
Joe
Joe
21:06
^ archeage should do that... it dont
Only if you're premium :P
@William'MindWorX'Mariager is it this? miniclip.com/games/adventure-capitalist/en
Joe
Joe
@Almo did you work in games before that?
I've been in games since 2000
anyone know about Time.deltaTime being unreliable in the editor?
    _frameTimer += Time.deltaTime;
    if (_frameTimer < _frameDuration)
    {
        return;
    }
    _frameTimer -= _frameDuration;
this is not preventing it from updating at more than 30 FPS
private const float _frameDuration = 1.0f / 30.0f;
21:11
yeah it's the same @William'MindWorX'Mariager
Joe
Joe
@Almo you lucky bastard :D
heh
Joe
Joe
is it still good 14 years later?
I've been laid off 5 times
it's not a stable industry
@William'MindWorX'Mariager oh dear, I think I have a problem
Jon
Jon
21:15
the bloop
@OMGtechy You're playing it? :P
@William'MindWorX'Mariager can't...stop...clicking....
gimme more managers
Idle games are weird.
They're the embodiment of instant gratification :P
Jon
Jon
21:17
pay now for a 100k cookie booster
@William'MindWorX'Mariager there I was being all productive and then you come along with this game :P
@OMGtechy I hate those games
@Almo how do you know?
@AttackingHobo so do I, but here I am playing it
Jon
Jon
meanwhile, bitcoins are being mined
21:18
It hits so many different psychological buttons to make it addictive
@OMGtechy Pfft, productivity :P
Jon
Jon
link me
There is probably a hack out there for it
Probably could use cheat engine to hack it.
Who wants to hack idle games? :P Except for the achievement?
Jon
Jon
heh
bragging rights?
21:19
Make things go faster so you don't waste so much time on it
get it out of your system
Jon
Jon
"look how much time I wasted"
@William'MindWorX'Mariager there comes a point, where there is no point carrying on
investor time ahahaha
Hehe
The kids I'm tutoring/teaching are making an idle game.
Their own personal "Gaben Clicker" where they click his face and money fly out. :P
@SpartanDonut it's animating, and it's REALLY FAST
looks like maybe 120 to me
If it were a difference between 45 and 30, I would not be so sure
reposting a spoiler is bad form
21:24
@William'MindWorX'Mariager my little bro did that in scratch, I suppose it's just easy to understand and to introduce variables and their uses
I was glad earlier when it disappeared off my screen
@Almo does it stabilize when you do a desktop build?
hmm maybe the FPS is working
@OMGtechy Yeah, that's what I thought. It's simple, and basically just uses simple input and variables.
@Almo I have a feeling it's a logic error of some sorts unless proven otherwise. Debug that code man ;P
21:25
trying a web build
well pc build
I don't trust just eyeballing it needless to say lol
for good reason
doesn't seem to work pc build
:(
just blank screen; no sprite
Joe
Joe
21:26
ooo man how i want this as a new monitor...
oh snap
39" is bigger than my TV
Also, PSA: Do yourselves a favor and buy a sound bar or other sound system. The difference is amazing.
@Joe That's crazy :P
I just paid 830 for a 55" UHD TV.
just realized I can watch myself type in the reflection of the iMac on my desk (just showed up today)
:(
Jon
Jon
can you somehow read in the playerPrefs of another project?
@Joe Although, it looks like it's only HDMI 1.4 unless I'm missing something.
In which case, the 4k is going to be less than optimal for PC use.
Joe
Joe
21:36
hmm
yea prolly right

Q: Why not purge unanswered questions as part of the 2014 Winter Refactor

ClassicThunderOut of curiosity why not a purge unanswered questions? There is lots of talk about "fixing the site" and its said that answering unanswered question is a good way to do this. I don't understand the reasoning behind this. I would like to know why the effort to why fix them other than to make me...

Jon
Jon
I think I'm gonna have to make Picross Touch Color
Remember to use symbols as well then. To aid colorblind people. :)
Jon
Jon
hmmm
Something like this
21:50
:/
Jon
Jon
kinda defeats the purpose of the color
@Josh Ugh yes, the GPL. I don't like it either, but if someone's really into reading legalese and making other people do things, I guess it's their own foot to shoot.
@Jon make sure to add tones for fully blind people too
Jon
Jon
lol
And a brail interface for deaf and blind people
Holy shit. Thank you @William'MindWorX'Mariager you set me on an awesome train of though
What if there was a pallet picker thing that worked with tones for graphics programs for color blind people
hover over color and hear its tone
map rbg into different frequencies

Q: Designing for visually impaired gamers

Anko Globally the number of people of all ages visually impaired is estimated to be 285 million, of whom 39 million are blind. — World Health Organisation, 2010. (That's 4.2% and 0.6% of the world population.) Most videogames put a strong emphasis on visuals in their content delivery. Visua...

anko usually its a good idea. But it would ruin the game for everyone
imagine in mspaint if you had huge icons covering each pixel
it would look like shit
yeah, I don't think it's possible to make a paint app blind-friendly because ..it's a paint app
I was joking earlier, if you didn't get it.
i didn't get it ;_;
lol
I like that site. I'll bookmark it once I get home.
22:02
And for stuff like SFIV, you should be able to select a set of controls from a list you've set up
we had all sorts of trouble at ATD because Tekken 3 and 4 didn't do this
so everytime I got on to play, I had to change the buttons, and they'd then have to change them back
I had a very good system set up and it was different enough to be a hassle
@Almo ooh savable profiles
Speaking of awesome control things. The new Guilty Gear has a press and hold start to pause
hold it for like .25 seconds I think
which nearly completely removes accidental presses that have been known to happen at big events
Never happened to me. I guess I've never played a fighting game seriously enough.
Or... vigorously enough
@AttackingHobo smart!
we did have that occasionally in tekken
Some people have weird cade sticks with easy to accidentally press start buttons
yo @Pip
@Almo yeah its not super common but it does happen, and when it does. it happens at the worst time.
:D
22:07
sup @Pip is Palindrome
about color blind thing, the most common type of colorblindness is red/green. that means if you have a red team and a green team, a red/green colorblind person won't be able to tell the difference.
LoL's colorblind mode used blue/yellow teams instead
Red and blue
Instead of you being green you are yellow
At least I'm pretty sure that's how I got those colors...
but even within red/green, a colorblind person can still see differences in brightness. so if you have a dark green background with a red flashing light, you're probably fine.
best strategy is probably to find a colorblind person and just repeat the question "can you see shit?" over and over
I know a few people who thought peanut butter was green...
I loved breaking the news to them
Best part is when they don't believe you and need to ask a 3rd party
lol, I've known a colorblind guy since before kindergarten. every so often I or another friend will make a casual comment about how we like his shirt because it's a cool shade of pink, or something like that. we space it out just right so it confuses him every time, because he'd never wear a pink shirt on purpose.

Jon
22:29
i know a colorblind guy, I should get him to test my game
23:16
Gimp has filters for all kinds of colourblindness. I assume other graphic tools do too.
23:55
GIMP ARGH
sorry :)
