I just spilled water on my mousepad. I am so pissed right now, I hope that doesn't do any damage.
better than the computer itself
I'm on a laptop.
oh, the touchpad
Yeh.
yay class is over. I'm out.
00:07
@hasherr are there any gaps or anything?
If you are worried, take battery out and place laptop in a bag of rice overnight
Gaps?
@hasherr Crevices.
It was just a bit of water, just freaked me out a little bit.
is the trackpad flush? or are there gaps which water can flow into the eletronics
I'm sure it'll be fine.
There are gaps, but I don't think any got in. Just on the surface and on the side of the laptop.
00:08
if its just a few drops of water that didn't soak into anything important then it should be fine
yeh.
hello
@MattD sup
work! but thats about it. how is everyone doing
@MattD doing good. Would be doing better if you could put in a vote for an idea I have spaceglasses.com/applicants/695
00:16
what are space glasses?
are they similar to what jerry ellsworth was doing?
if they can hit 1080p on those, they would make for awesome coding things
spaceglasses.com video on home page
@MattD initial versions are 960 x 540 x2
ill check it later, coding atm
20degree fov. so it should be decently sharp.
Those have a higher slightly higher resolution, but much larger fov, so it has a worse resolution density. Also that system requires special trackers and cannot be used in the air. it must project onto a surface.
Also active shutters give me headaches
00:22
well, the "surface" is defined by modulating LED's
so you could technically project onto anything marked by that
@MattD as in I couldn't use that kind of thing floating in the air
well, you can project onto air either ;) you have to project onto something ;)
The meta glasses project onto the lenses. So it doesn't matter what I am looking at
I want to be able to use them semi portably.
tbh, eyestrain on that would be pretty bad for things that require continual concerntration
we'll see i guess
Time to make a dinosaur
00:26
rawr
PUT THE DINOSAUR ON THE TABLE
; a ; steph gets back in.... 7 days
@hasherr no
njasdfjnkdasjnkaksjdkjanf senpai is coming.
oh yeah. im pretty happy.. i bought a 1991 ibanez RG565 on the weekend :)
and its being fixed up by my tech now, after i cleaned it up!
bahaha
such a shitty raptor
01:24
hmm, should I try to finish my blog post on matrices, or just program stuff
01:48
yeah... that's always a bit of a choice. I have 2 articles on the way but never find the time to finish them
My shirt arrived today! :D And as promised, here's me in it
8
AWW it's black!
yep, looks like a shirt to me.
@JohnMcDonald cool! :D
@Jovito :) Yup, but it's slightly more than a shirt. When you go to an amazing concert and buy a shirt with the band's name on it, it's not just a shirt, it's a shirt that you bought at that concert
makes sense
01:53
I have a closet full of memories, :)
(plus a few work shirts)
like an Eroica shirt from a performance of Beethoven's 3rd symphony?
YES! Just like that!
napoleon's head saying omelette du fromage
I also promised Byte that I'd hound you guys to star my pic (or the message + link)
So, get on it!
02:00
(the message above that one is better imo, and it has a link to the image)
@JohnMcDonald needs ironing :P
heh, probably
If I owned an iron
@Jovito Thanks
@hasherr why do you always give dinosaurs spots :P
Spots BELONG on dinosaurs.
dinosaur != dinosaurWithoutSpots;
Alright, time for you people to give me some marketing and PR advice. go to basketball-gm.com (it isn't spam, don't worry) and rip it apart. Criticize it and tell me what's wrong with it. What could be better?
user4704
02:08
The landing page looks too cramped.
plain white background - bit bland
user4704
Both "You're in charge!" and "No bullshit. None." wrap, and you have all this space available.
also no copyright notice on the page should add one xD
user4704
Also, it's maybe not the best plan to say "bullshit" in your advertising material.
I don't think a plain white background is a bad thing. expanding the page a bit should solve that anyway.
the rest I agree with
02:10
i do .. just looks.. meh
perhaps
the one other thing I can add is that the font is aliased. there should be a way to fix that.
Whutup people.
it's especially apparent on the bigger letters, like "Basketball GM" and "Start playing now!"
hiya, penguin
It's not cenered, either.
Which ahs to make me look up
And makes me sad
it is for me =/
02:13
horizontally centered, but not vertically
that said, vertically centering anything outside of a table is physically painful
@IcyDefiance Not if the content is fixed anyway, just 50% margins everywhar
Thanks guys. Much appreciated. Hopefully the next time I show a modified version of the page to review, you guys would be saying, "there is nothing to criticize!" :)
(50% - half the height) of the content you mean
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute there's always something to criticize. trust me on that.
@Dave Yeah, that. :p
02:14
@AGirlSaidMySmileIsCute no grafixxxxx
well yeah, finding the height of the content is problem #1
wheres the 3diminesional AAA graphics
Also, needs moar cowbel.
you can't just do margin-top: auto; margin-bottom:auto; like you can with horizontal alignment, can you?
div.offsetHeight = (string) 190px
02:15
been a while since I did any real CSS
i believe you can if you set body to 100% first
its all bit hacky tho
Or if you're feeling ghetto
Just absoulte position it lol
well pretty much all front end webdev is hacky
which is why I hate webdev
EMRBACE IT./
well actually, both PHP and ASP.NET are pretty hacky too
02:16
applies for another contest he'll never win
I HAVE TO WIN SOME RAFFLE BEFORE I DIE.
i remember winning a game for a competition i never entered into
@Dave Sounds like spam.
no i won a ps1 game lol
it arrived in the mail
lol weird
yup
02:19
one of my cousins spends quite a bit of his spare time just entering random drawings for laptops or consoles or whatever else, and actually makes a fair chunk of money from reselling the stuff he wins. not enough to replace his job or anything, but enough to make it worth it for him.
I'm not sure how much time he puts into it; maybe an hour a night or something.
GIVE ME HIS SECRETS.
make an email or three dedicated to the purpose, because they ALL spam you, then just enter everything
also you might want to offer left hand to aliens for a charm or something.
I'll just sell my soul, that works, right?
perhaps, but that may make it difficult to enjoy your winnings
of course, if you sell a few of those winnings, you could probably afford to buy a new soul from any new atheist
actually, scratch that. if you really want a soul for cheap, check the obituaries for recently deceased Christians. sure, it sounds kind of immoral, but you won't have a soul to make you feel guilty anyway.

4 hours later…
06:21
@JohnMcDonald nice!
@JohnMcDonald now I'm feeling bad for not participating
@hasherr I once opened a mineral water bottle over my laptop, and it bursted all over the laptop keyboard and I got a bit freaked out about it, but no damage there. I've done that many times on some keyboards also
06:58
lol

2 hours later…
09:10
Morning
good day
09:37
I have an interview today :D
cool, good luck :)
Cheers :D
@JohnMcDonald Nice shirt, looking sharp my man!
I just had a meta idea...
I think
09:52
I reverted to unity 4.2 at work because it wouldn't work with Intel GMA thingy
today the player autoupdated and now I can't test the web builds :(
joy
and it's all a bug coming from 4.3
and nobody seems to be willing to fix it
Ouch.
I'll suggest a hardware upgrade anyway
I'll also request a 1080p monitor at least
1440x900 is not that fitting
hafta scroll a lot
cough cough I have two of these cough cough
envious
They cost £870, I wouldn't envy too much
10:08
bah I've got only two 1920x1200 HP monitors
24"
I'd like to have three, and with better resolution
but my laptop's gpu does not support three
My 2 GTX 560 Ti's struggle
Need to get something a little meatier.

2 hours later…
Jon
Jon
11:56
A programmer's monitor is like a carpenter's workbench.
Agreed
Except with less sawdust.
Jon
Jon
hehe
How about the keyboard?
@Blue and there are multiple workbenches
Which require power.
11:57
What kind of keyboards are you people btw using?
Jon
Jon
I got a generic pos dell keyboard
I have this cheap-ass 15 euro Logitech K200
Jon
Jon
I got this one for free
This is great for typing, but not that ergonomical nor it feels great. But it still has great touch.
I've thought about if I should buy the Logitech K290
almost 4 years old now, or even older (since when I bought it)
it's solid, takes the punishment and can be washed under the shower
I also don't get what is the advantage with the mechanical keyboards
Easier to type, last longer, consistent attenuation
A few other things pop up depending on key type
like for gamers you can get keys that attenuate at the slightest touch, great for responsiveness.
You got clicky keys which make typing more accurately easier, as they only attenuate beyond a certain distance and so pressing it completely is a requirement which makes typing more secure.
That and you get very high quality switches which means incredibly sturdy keys.
They just simply don't die.
12:21
Is there something that is very quiet, has the minimum key movement range, and why I would use that over a lot cheaper flat keyboard?
I think it's the same thing as with headphones
What I basically would like is the feel of flat keyboard with sturdiness of mechanical keyboard as cheaply as possible
"Why spend $300 on a sennheiser when I can use $20 sonys"
That's not at all the same thing in my opinion
I care a lot about the feel of my keyboard
Just like I care a lot about the sound quality
then... it's the same thing
12:26
But I can get better feel for a lot cheaper using a flat keyboard
That makes it completly different thing
no, it's the same thing but in a special case when you would be able to get what the $300 sennheisers offer for $20
But that would never happen
You just can't get the quality of $300 sennheisers for under $300
I completely disagree with the flat keyboard being the same as a mechanical
They are compeltely different mechanisms and flat keyboards are far from sturdy
I am not arguing over what could happen
Since I've worked in this office I have replaced the normal Dell and HP £12 keyboards about 15 times in the last year.
I have had my Filco for 3 years.
and it types better than a new £12 HP
12:31
@Blue mine costed $15.10 XD
You will never get a better feel than a mechanical.
wait a sec, I'll post a relevant article
I have had this Logitech K200 for about a year now, after my razor keyboard died
Unless you like your keys actually acting up, degrading over time, getting sticky and not attenuating at all.
Why I use a 20-year-old IBM Model M keyboard
They don't make them like they used to. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/11/why-i-use-a-20-year-old-ibm-model-m-keyboard/
12:32
Razor aren't the most hardy to being with.
My Filco also has lighter keys in terms of pressing power needed to activate the key and I have eliminated the RSI I had from typing on a Logitech G15
the keys had no problem, but the USB line got some interference from somewhere, and the touch controls were buggy
Every time I come to work I type on a normal keyboard and go "Yuchk!" even a clean new one feels sticky and unresponsive.
Anyhow.
I need to pop off
I want from my keyboard quietness, lightness and minimum key movement when pressing
So you want a blue key mechanical keyboard then
also the flatter the better
12:35
Queit, award winning in terms of light key press requirements and the 2 mm of keymovement.
Why flatter?
I don't like the usual high profile of mechanical keyboards
Shrug
it's more esthetical
Well that's completely different to feel and usability then
I never look down at my keyboard so I don't need it to look pretty.
I just need it to feel amazing.
I digress.
it's the overall I am looking for from a keyboard
12:37
Cheerio peeps.
see you
it's also a part of the feel with the high profile keyboards
if the keys are higher, they usually have less area for pushing, and more area to hit the side of the key
which is not what I want
while that looks great for my needs, it is ugly as hell
Jon
Jon
those buttons look like they would stick
this might be the best one I've found yet
never used it though, so I don't know about the real feel
13:36
@Noctrine Enders game was a horribly horrible movie, though I'm probably a bit biased since I just finished "reading" the book again. I can more or less look past all the things that blatantly were wrong / didn't match what really happened in the book but those pieces probably amplify my feelings of how the rest of the movie seemed very thin on plot / motivation / character development. It just went from scene to scene with no real purpose from one point to the next is how I felt.
It's like it all just happened magically
I'd be very curious to hear the perspective of someone who didn't read the book
A pal of mine who loved the book said the film was as much as you could expect from a 2-hour adaptation, and recommended it. Haven't seen it yet.
not saying you're wrong; just what i heard. :)
The reason I chose to watch it was because after finishing the book again, I was very curious how the movie adaptation would have turned out. Unfortunately I was disappointed but I probably should have seen it coming.
:(
"should have seen it coming" agreed.
14:08
Isn't all movie adaptions from books bad?
I can't recall anyone ever being satisfied before.
Lord of the Rings recent trilogy. The Road. These two come to mind. I am certain there are others.
Cloud Atlas
To prevent any confusion: those are all good in my opinion.
I don't know. I've read the Lord of the Rings. The movie adaptions were great, but still, lots of stuff missing, including entire main characters.
of course stuff was missing
the extended editions add up to about 12 hours of movie... if you were to include everything, it would be 40 hours
or more
Jackson removed the bits that did not help the story. Like bombadil
he's a loop off the edge that just adds flavor
those movies got a surprising amount of the flavor while maintaining pretty tight storytelling.
that's a major accomplishment in my opinion
14:25
Lord of the Rings movies were like the books but the abridged versions. Enders Game watched more like a childrens picture book.
heh
:)
See Ender get recruited. Ender flies to battle school. Battle, Ender! Battle!. etc.
so you would call it Ender's Lame.
argh testing :(
trying to get the player tray to break
but I leave it open all the time
I hate having to close it and open it
but the bug won't happen or i won't notice it if I don't.
Bugs suck
yeah :(
only happens with the player tray, not the history or data tray
that's a clue
...
i think that means I don't have to look in the tray code, just the playersidebar code which subclasses the tray
14:32
And anywhere that calls the playersidebar
Sounds reasonable anyway
hello
hi
@Almo how its going
Jon
Jon
helloooooo
goooooooood
hoooooow are yoooooou?
overuse of pinging me annoys me. other than that, it's going ok. :)
Jon
Jon
14:44
@Almo I hear ya.
Just focusing on better code formatting in my rolling balls game
14:55
hmm
maybe the playersidebar is the one that gets reported because it's the one that gets opened/closed the most often
yeah
no clue then where the problem is
still have to get it to happen again
@joapet99 hey man, how's the level file system working?
woops wrong window
I've found a nice thing in my Warcraft III reversing. Basically, I've found the global memory allocator which handily comes with debug information regarding which type is created.
@Almo wat
15:03
i don't put complaints about my workplace in public
:)
Problem is, catching the memory allocation of an object means I don't have any data in the object at the moment, so I have to wait for it to be ready somehow.
@Almo oh sure
I guess it's time to trace the function in a debugger and see where it takes me. :P
neither do I
I just wish that I had more professional experience with modern version control tools.
debugger!!!
:)
Some guy broke into my apartment, and I kicked debugger out.
ba dum tiss
Problem is, the function is called thousands of times. :P
But if I recall correct, IDA supports conditional breakpoints.
hahaha
oh man, tomorrow is my golden birthday, and the first day of Daisho Con.
my buddy Kyle is DJing for the rave, and he made me a birthday song.
also, desert bus for hope is on right now.
15:28
@ShotgunNinja Your in the chat!
"you're" :)
sorry
@JohnMcDonald Awesome! :D
Yes, I am.
@ShotgunNinja if you have a golmer variable how would you check if it was a clone of that in a list
15:41
@joapet99 Usually, you'd check the golmer variable's ID against the list.
But because that takes time, you could replace the ArrayList with a more optimal data structure.
Do you know about asymptotic time complexity, aka Big-O?
comaparing.get(int).getId() and then what should int be
Well, you'd have to loop over all the Golmers in the list.
Something like:
for (Golmer g : golmerList) {
    if (g.getId() == theGivenId) {
        return true;
    }
}
ok, then
That shows if it's in the list.
But that means that in the worst case, you have to loop over every Golmer just to see if one is in the list.
if he's in java, there must be a decent hashtable for that kind of operation
15:45
public boolean isOnTopOfThisFloor(ArrayList<Golmer> comparing){
		for(Golmer g1 : currentBricks){
			for(Golmer g2 : comparing){

			}
		}
		return false;
	}
He's new to this whole programming thing, it seems. I'm trying to cover the options from as basic a standpoint as I can.
like that?
makes sense to me, shotgun :)
@joapet99 Yeah, then you just have to check if g1.getId() == g2.getId().
20/7 cait last night. immediately after had a game where team went 4-24, and I got 2 kills.
15:46
ok thanks
@Almo Nice!
the 20/7 we won, despite a diana being mad at us and doing nothing some of the time :)
and that was with my weirdo build
I had a nice streak with Sona the other day, and some silvers and a gold I knew in a 4-man.
First game, we wrecked them, and I was best support.
Second game, I ended up accidentally getting a double kill and a kill secure.
Freaking sona, man.
Can't wait until I can focus on AP items early game next season, and become the best AP/support troll ever. Right up until the nerf.
15:48
sona rocks
She is mai waifu :P
nuts
that link doesnt go to the game
check my match history. it's the top catilyn win
usually i build infinity pd and 3 BTS
LK is blocked at work :(
But I'm working on a new build
dang it, I just started playing LoL again yesterday, and now you're talking about it here
I CAN'T ESCAPE :'(
15:49
inf, pd and 3 bts? Does BT stack?
BT DOES stack, motherfuckers.
:D
Goldsword, Red Doubleswords, and 3 Redswords. You'll have so many swords, the enemy won't know what hit them.
this last win i did BT, infinity, zephyr, black cleaver, frozen mallet
people don't expect the slow on hit from cait
:)
that's not a bad one on cait, esp with the slows from frozen mallet. Her attack speed and range plus a slow?
yeah :)
15:51
mah god
it's not as OMG DAMAGE/LIFESTEAL like with the 3 BTs.
it's more subtle
the cdr is nice too
hehe, none can escape
even zilean was having a hard time escaping :)
