A: What's the evidence against SARS-CoV-2 being engineered by humans?

John SlegersThe following are the two main academic sources referenced by those who are not convinced COVID-19 originated outside a lab. “Researchers likely synthesized the Covid-19, although more studies are needed to be certain,” NTU professor Fang Chi-tai told a forum on disease control and preven...

I am really thinking of deleting it for spreading unfounded rumors.
And I don't like this.
Yeah, that's the same user with the conspiracy theory.
Now I remember.

Q: Is SARS-CoV-2 a biological weapon released by the US military?

John SlegersSARS-CoV-2 is a novel coronavirus that is the cause of the disease COVID-19. Some people have questioned the origins of the virus. RadioFreeEurope reported on March 5, 2020 on a claim by an Iranian Commander: Hossein Salami, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC)...

> Fang’s theory is that natural mutations of viruses will only result in small, singular changes, and it is suspicious to see a naturally mutated virus suddenly take on four amino acids.
Buhahahaha!

@terdon Mark it as "not an answer" or low quality, then I will happily delete it.

@Chris done
I also suggested that the OP ask a question. Although on second thought, I guess it would be closed as a dupe.
@JohnSlegers please post a question about this. The claims are very simply ludicrous. As someone with almost 20 years of experience in genomics I actually laughed out loud when I read the claim about how gaining 4 amino acids (which, by the way, is nonsensical since genes don't have amino acids, which further indicates that the authors you cite don't know what they're talking about if they can't even use the right terms) is somehow surprising or strange. We would be happy to debunk it if you post a question. But the claims are just silly and not supported by science. — terdon 54 secs ago

Given the direction of interest around here lately, biology.meta.stackexchange.com/a/4071/27148 could probably use some more votes
