That’s a big distinction. So you do lie to them about other things, just not harmless things like fantasy, magic, and mysticism? I’m trying to understand why the line is at Santa. To me this still comes off as something that is more about how we feel as parents - otherwise the other lies would factor into that discussion about morality and you made the distinction that you may at times lie to them. Also, in a comment that was previously removed, there is no harm in saying “I don’t know”. How does Santa fit down that chimney? “That’s a good question, how do you think he does?” or “oh my, IDK” — vol7ron 1 min ago

@DanAnderson I'm certainly glad that you've found something useful here, but the answers to this question (as of this writing) all violate the constraints in the question by advocating behavior which you classify as deceitful. That may be just fine (I'm not judging your positions or choices), but it's neither an answer to the question as asked nor is it a frame challenge. That's problematic for SE, especially IPS, whether answers are valuable or not. I sympathize with your situation, but I feel that this question can't be answered as written while conforming to SE guidelines. Edits may help. — Upper_Case 1 min ago

Just a tip here... I'm not sure about Canada, but in the US, few people would know the words "blether" and "maunder." I assume that English is not your first language. If these words are ones you hear in Canada, then that's fine. If they're translations you looked up for words in your native language, I'd caution you to verify people actually know and use words before you begin using them yourself. — bubbleking 1 min ago

Just how much "stuff" is there? I know it might be emotionally painful but is it possible to box her items and have them in a corner or closet somewhere until she's available to pick them up? — DaveG 57 secs ago

I should probably add "piddling" to the list of words I cited in my previous comment. — bubbleking 56 secs ago
