To clarify that bit you quoted, I'm saying that it's true that I don't want to risk the friendship with a fling. Even if I were single I'd not want something casual here — William Grobman 50 secs ago

@MisterGeeky To be fair, with the way that chat plays out, she may not be cutting you off at all. You are ghosting her, so she may just be speaking in self-pity that you aren't responding to her, so she can't really say that you're friends anymore. — さりげない告白 55 secs ago

@Erik IMO the "true love" approach also gently indicates that the other part might not be that right person, at least not right now. But I agree with you, and those are just real-life examples. If I were in OP's shoes, if I was asked out I would just use a transparent "with pleasure. I shall tell you I'm not interested in romance right now, but I'd love to make new friends". However this is everything but subtle, hence I prefered to share my friends' experience. — avazula 46 secs ago

At least where I live in Europe, and from what I've experienced in other countries, people don't date. Asking someone if this was a date is always a no. People socialise, meaning hanging out and so on. "The Date" just doesn't exist in the European process of forming relationships. While I very much agree with your interpretation that this socialising event has romantic interests tied to it, and while I understand your approach, I think it just needs a bit of rewording. — Narusan 1 min ago

Upvote from me! I'd think 2 people of different gender eating together is almost universally recognised as potentially being a date so saying 'around here this is thought...' is a great way to bring it up (they'll likely know this from there home town as well so it won't come across as presumtuous). — RyanfaeScotland 21 secs ago

How does touching any reasonable number of female breasts (outside of a medical profession) provide a statistical basis for determining what might constitute a medical condition? I agree that OP should definitely express his concern and urge the woman to visit a doctor, but I wouldn't call it a white lie (from what may be assumed about OP's professional background) to also be clear that he doesn't have any deeper knowledge of female anatomy. — FerventHippo 14 secs ago

I'd thought that was probably the point avazula was going to make. I agree that I should not insinuate I know better than her (as I don't), but I believe I'll be able to point it out humbly without resorting to a lie. Women are also advised to touch themselves here in Brazil, but these campaigns are not as widespread as I think they should be. As for my professional background, none is related to female anatomy whatsoever, so it should be for the best that I only remark that it called my attention and got me worried about her. — Henrique Bispo 47 secs ago

"So, how do I to tell them to stop befriending these people and cease their behavior, or at least prioritize their family over their friend in any circumstances?" As you said they are in their mid 20's, and i want to say that i understand that you just care, but if an adult person preferres to prioritize their friends, it's totally their choice. I love my family but often my friends come first. Just my choice, and hers as well :) — MansNotHot 1 min ago

@Upper_Case I honestly don't know what she should do. She has moved out, and lives on her own for the most part. From what I can gather, she eats healthier food than she ever has (though perhaps not in smaller portions), and exercises on a semi-regular basis. I don't live with her, and I cannot tell her how to live her life, so I am not sure what to advise. — Dent7777 just now

It seems that the common understanding in US is that sports are a way to keep weight down. In Europe, we largely believe that sport keep you fit and strong, but right weight is kept due to correct eating habits. I don't think your sister must do more sports - I think it is her eating habits that are pretty bad. Just my two cents. — Nat 21 secs ago

You can pay for such workshops, I don't think this is something which can be sufficiently discussed in a simple answer. I don't quite get why you don't tell him that he shouldn't undersell himself in a presentation. How is that an attack on the character? Has the student shown bad reactions to constructive criticism or is this just a general fear you have? Are you specifically perhaps bad at giving feedback? I know people that are and should perhaps ask questions here — Raditz_35 28 secs ago

Hey @385703 , comments are fleeting and are subject to being deleted at any time. The mods don't always have the luxury of reading through all of them in a large thread to determine which make sense stand alone and which don't (and even if they did there'd still likely be complaints). I saw your comments though and we discussed them. If you still feel passionate about it though I'd encourage you to add your own answer with your view! That's permanent and if people agree it'll raise to the top drowning mine out. :) — RyanfaeScotland 46 secs ago

Technically I emailed the director instead of met in person (my job didn't permit an in-person visit) but we agreed that my daughter tried her best to get out of the situation, which she does well on-site. They agreed to keep a closer watch on her during field trips where she cannot "escape" and asked that we worked together to get her to signal teachers for help when she cannot. The key is reminding the teachers that just because she's a big kid her autism has not gone away, it's just evolving as she matures. — SnappingShrimp 1 min ago
