@refbobby - If you're in the US, your apparent beliefs about how rentals work are very different from how every rental I've ever been involved in worked. In rentals, if you don't explicitly have some facility in an agreement or a codified law (FHA, etc), you should assume you cannot do it. — Fake Name 1 min ago

-1 for feeding into @refbobby's entirely unjustified persecution complex. The shared areas are for shared living, not expanded hoarding rights. If there's no room in his room, he should be clearing out space as a personal choice, not bemoaning that he's enduring an "unpleasant situation" or whinging that his lease is "extremely wrong". You're just going to help get him evicted, at which point he'll presumably start fighting the police because "there are no signs" that say he can't store things in the park and the middle of the street. — lly 1 min ago

I think there is a reasonably right answer, to wit: If you dated them, or really like them, tell them as a courtesy. Other than that, you owe no one anything at all. And take down your profile and/or set your status -- this tells everyone the score, and also tells them the score if this doesn't pan out and you are once again seeking. Aid serendipity: You never know. — Harper 1 min ago

While this isn't a proper answer (this would have better suited for the comments in either my question or the other user's answer), I have to agree. In fact, a few other of my friends, some of whom are also artists, tend to have this mindset; generally, if you're posting your artwork on sites for people to see, you're generally either seeking validation from others or are looking for criticism to improve (I personally fall into both of these catagories) — anony 18 secs ago
