01:34
that guy is trying to race me to gold harry potter tag /sigh
02:10
OMG I JUST NOTICED
in this Supergirl promo shot SUPERMAN HAS NO S-CURL
because it's earth-3 superman
where everyone has bobbleheads and no s-curls
and stubble
they're from the same house, so why are their s's different?
i hope this is just one of those things that got translated poorly - but how old is tommen supposed to be? he's joffrey's younger brother, and i got the impression originally that joffrey was 12-13 when the show started. and i feel like mention of that was made when they were talking about him not being old enough to be king right away
granted, for seasons 1 & 2, everyone mentions "months" when talking about how long the war has been going on, and then in s3, it's suddenly "years"
it got translated badly.
but mostly because in the books he's like 9.
they age-accelerated the kids so it was less creepy when they started getting married but with the younger ones it didn't quite come across
yeah, tommen looks like he's 12
and i know sansa made mention that she was like 14 or 15 during the engagement to joffrey
02:25
in the books, Tommen is 7 when the story starts.
how far along are you? what's the last thing that happened to him?
margery and lores just got arrested for lying during the inquest
I believe they aged everyone up ~2 years. but Joffrey was aged more because the actor looked too old.
he's been married for like 2 episodes
so Tommen was 9 at the start of season one, making him ~13 when he got married.
but they also recast him to a much older actor
however.
in the novels, Cersei becomes his regent because he's still under aged when he becomes king... in the show she's not.
so I assume they've retconned him into being 18 by now
Season 5 is supposed to be happening about 4 years after Season 1, I think.
being regent would make more sense with the shit she's pulling
but with her not being regent, it just makes her seem more petty
02:29
Seasons 1 and 2 did happen close together but then after all the other kings died they started stretching the timelines out.
that's why things seem to happen "too fast"...
like people getting from place to place faster than they should. it happens a lot in season 6.
I think Varys crosses the narrow sea 3 times in one episode.
its something like that.
they just made mention that winterfell is 1000 miles from kings landing
he leaves kings landing, shows up in mereen, leaves mereen, shows up in dorne, then shows up on a ship leaving mereen
GRRM has also admitted that he is absolutely terrible with distances and scale
his description of the wall turned out to be absurdly bigger than he imagined
looking at the map, it looks far smaller than everyone makes it out to be
grand scale wise
so.. sansa just got married. arya just saw the room of faces. rob decided to let the wildings through the gate. jorath/tyrion just got picked up by the slavers on the way to slave bay (jorath is now infected by the zombie virus). barristan is dead, and dany fed some rich guy to the dragons and told the other rich guy they were getting married
02:36
so, here are the kids ages as of the date that Ned Stark leaves Winterfell (year 298), based on their birth years in the novels:
Robb 283: 15
Jon 283: 15
Sansa 286: 12
Arya 289: 9
Bran 290: 8
Rickon 295: 3

Joffrey 286: 12
Myrcella 290: 8
Tommen 291: 7
from what I've read, Joffrey was +4 in the show, and everyone else was +2
that sounds about right
bran mentioned he was 10 to someone early on
Tyrion claims Joffrey is 17 in Season 2 during the big fight at Kings Landing.
so apparently about a year did pass between the start of S1 and the middle of S2
and then another year-ish per season.
it all feels extra rushed when you're binging the episodes
Joffrey was 19 when he died. Tommen should have been 12-13 when he became king, in the show. (he was 9 when he got married in the books)
the odd thing is, sansa was still under-aged when she married Tyrion
i think that was a big deal in the show.
yeah tyrion mentions it
02:44
so she was only aged +2.
that she's just a girl
still means she would have been 17.
age of consent in the books is stated as 16 every time marrying off a kid comes up.
so that's about right... she had just hit marrying age
Rickon is the one that throws me... because in the novels, he should be barely old enough to walk.
and he does come off as a little kid when he gets left behind in Winterfell... but not a 3 year old.
yeah, i got a 5-6 vibe most of the time
maybe a little older once they split up
i may not have a clear picture of what a 3 year old is capable of... but he names his own direwolf
> Are we going home? I want my horse. And I want applecakes and butter and honey, and Shaggy. Are we going where Shaggydog is?[10]
I believe he is 4 or 5 when he says this.
i guess that's the age when kids start school. maybe it's less silly than I thought
> rob decided to let the wildings through the gate
you mean jon
derp. yeah.
all them generic white boys look alike
02:52
weren't you on season 3 like a week ago?
now you're almost done season 5?
yeah, we've been watching at least 2 eps most nights
robb and jon actually did look alot alike, which was cool since they're supposed to.
3 is more common. 4 on a few weekend nights
though really they probably looked more alike than they should given their actual familial relationship
plus, all the boys had jet black hair, but I'm pretty sure ned and cat both had brown hair
we burned through all of lost in something like 3 weeks, and that's something like 120 eps
02:55
and there's definitely something interesting going on with Jon Snow's genetics, given how they seem to work in that world

Q: It’s time to retire the term “rep-whore”

JaydlesGoing forward, “rep-whore” (and its derivatives) will be treated like any other term that’s inconsistent with the community’s “be nice” policy: it will be removed. It’s totally okay if you’ve used it in the past. Nobody’s judging the many users who’ve used it. And users will NOT start being s...

they havent touched on that yet
/facepalm
> Labeling users with names that almost no one would call themselves reduces two-sided discourse and learning.
someone has clearly never been to SF/F
they're talking about on meta sites, primarily.
though I'm sure it will become verboten in Mos Eisley now that it's been stated by a CM
hows it been in there?
oh jeez. i was going to watch obama's speech from last night... until i saw that it's 45 minutes.
well... I hid all oneboxes from 3 people, put 1 on ignore, and manually ignore about 90% of one other. and so far it's been fine.
03:05
utterly boring and it still feels like being babysat at daycare, except imagine if the babysitter used to be the school bully.
but definitely much calmed down since the immediate pre-election disaster
so apparently, when i wasn't looking, now that MTV doesn't play actual music videos anymore they all have naked women in them.
and now playboy doesnt have naked women
dog and cats living together, mass hysteria!
frankly I'm surprised they even exist.
any of them.
03:29
apparently, scarjo has been spotted near the spider-man film set
03:45
she's dating peter parker.
black widow/peter/aunt may/tony double date

@KutuluMike I hate s curl

Yeah i knwo
Anyways, anybody checked Batman: The Killing Joke Film???

13:01
do you have your copy of the new book all preordered?
get in front of those questions
ill buy the ebook the day it comes out
not going to go to a midnight event?
did they confirm yet if they novelised it or if its going to be script
i think it's a script
the last harry potter midnight event i went to was standing in line at a Kroger for 4 hours for book 6
i then read for 2 hours, and went to work at 6am, with my book and read at my register. back when i was a cashier in highschool.
book 7 i think leeked
and i read half of it online, then bought it in the am on release
13:05
i forget which one had a "leak", and it was an elaborate fake
i want to say book 5
i remember book 7 coming out right before i went on a trip and my cousin had read the whole book on his plane flight to visit me, with the leaked version, and i was stuck driving us to alabama so i didnt finish it for like a week
@AnkitSharma No, but I've heard it's pretty bad.
@DrRDizzle Then it must be good
I do no that sex controversy and it being R rated but cast is pretty good
ThatShrugEmoticon.
I haven't read anything that seems to think it's good so far, so...
> The film's voice acting and faithfulness to the source material in the second half were received more positively
> Nick Bosworth of JoBlo.com writes that "the best strength of this film however hands down in the voice talent behind it. Kevin Conroy is in top form returning as Bruce Wayne (we never do see him as Bruce Wayne in the film) and of course Mark Hamill as Joker."

.Sergio Pereira of Fortress of Solitude praises the Batman and Batgirl relationship angle, stating, "By instilling romantic feelings between the two, Batman has even more reason to cross the line with the Joker
13:13
@AnkitSharma The Batman/Batgirl thing is the thing I've seen criticised the most.
> Batman: The Killing Joke received mixed reviews
And with good reason too, from what I've heard.
yvonne craig batgirl was one of my first crushes. i can't say i'd blame batman for going there.
@DrRDizzle It do sound creepy to me as i always felt batgirl as daughter-like to Batman
But i heard it's good adaptation of comics and secodn half is quite good
From what I've read The Killing Joke tries to fix the misogyny of "The Killing Joke" by turning Batgirl into a subpar crime fighter who lets her emotions force her into a quasi-incestuous relationship with Batman, before she is raped by the Joker.
I don't need or want to see any of that.
13:16
she didn't got raped by joker
@AnkitSharma Sexual assault is heavily implied.
yeah, the article i read said that it was intentionally vague whether or not she was
> However, this does not seem to be the intention, as Bruce Timm has denied the implication, stating, "I did not think of it as supporting that. If I had, I probably would have changed the line. I never, ever thought that he actually raped her. Even in my first read of the comic, I never thought that.
@AnkitSharma Gordon is taunted with naked pictures of Barbara after she's been shot.
a lot of it comes from i think it was harley saying something like, "maybe he found a new girl"
13:17
@DrRDizzle Same to source material
Here is a feminist critique of The Killing Joke from The Mary Sue for anyone interested by the way.
@AnkitSharma That's what I'm talking about. Heavily implied sexual assault.
@DrRDizzle I am afraid of feminists , so put on ignore list
^lol
@AnkitSharma ...ok.
@DrRDizzle But the director denied it , it got received in bad way
If i am not wrong then u always hate the idea of R rated superhero stuff
13:20
@AnkitSharma It got received in a bad way because that's what happens. I've seen clips of The Killing Joke that show the same thing, Gordon being taunted with photographs of his bleeding, naked daughter.
Anyway I am open to discuss it but want to check it first
@AnkitSharma Not at all. Wasn't The Wolverine R rated?
@DrRDizzle Really? I don't think so
@AnkitSharma Oh, there was an R rated extended cut.
Still.
@DrRDizzle You hated the idea of BvS having R rated DVD , even way before you checked the film
@DrRDizzle ohhh, don't know about it. Can't watch it again at all
@DrRDizzle And you were negative for deadpool too
13:22
can we stop acting surprised when dizzle doesn't like something?
2
what else is there to do in here?
fair enough
we can make fun of evolved cows that raise mutant babies
i stopped being able to read TMS articles when they started prefacing half of their stuff with trigger warnings
@phantom42 But i still can't buy the idea of hating something which you haven't even checked
those articles also tend to nitpick every single thing and blow them out of proportion
Most of the artical this days written by Britishers and they do stretch stuff a lot
13:32
britishers, i like that
adding that to my vocab next to nephson
I always prefer straight to face plain review rather the exaggerated ones
But this days articals have click bait title exaggerated scenario and over the top snarkism
And too marvelish
ankit is starting to make up more words than himarm or michael jackson
i dont make up words, i just spell them uniquely
@AnkitSharma I didn't like Deadpool because I thought it was a 13 year olds version of "adult", not because it was R rated.
13:36
@Himarm You got the star of wisdom
@AnkitSharma I hated the idea of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice having an R rated cut because it's Zack Snyder, and I don't trust the guy as far as I can throw him.
@DrRDizzle what? O.o :O , nevermind
That being said, I'll admit I'm more sceptical when it comes to R rated superhero stuff than most.
@DrRDizzle You are more skeptical when it's DC too
@Himarm Oh yeah, for sure. The Mary Sue, or as it's otherwise known, Nothing Is Good Enough.
@AnkitSharma With good reason.
13:38
When it's MCU, you becoem over positive
@AnkitSharma I disagree.
@DrRDizzle when they get deep like this it really throws me. " the posture of her feet indicated that she was subservient like all women before her for 10k years"
@Himarm Who is "they"?
@DrRDizzle You liked Iron man trilogy way more then Dark night and you even said Iron man 2 was not bad.....hence proved
a femanist article that goes to far
13:39
@Himarm holy moly
@AnkitSharma I said that in retrospect, Iron Man 2 did some interesting things with the character of Tony Stark. I still don't like it very much - it's still the second worst film in the MCU.
@Himarm That's why i avoid femanazis
@Himarm Goes too far into what? Analysing imagery?
nitpicking
@DrRDizzle into over analyzing
13:41
@AnkitSharma Well, that's subjective. One persons over-analysis may be too shallow for another person.
@AnkitSharma Also, for the record, I think The Dark Knight is better than any of the Iron Man films. But I think that when taken film for film, the Iron Man trilogy has more great films than Nolan's trilogy.
it's absolutely true that with many artists, every brushstroke is calculated and intentional. it's also absolutely true that many people find monsters because they look for anything that remotely looks like one.
@DrRDizzle completely disagree , except IM 1, i never liked any other one and i even place IM 1 after all three batman films
@AnkitSharma For me, The Dark Knight > Iron Man 3 > Iron Man > Batman Begins > The Dark Knight Rises > Iron Man 2. Although I haven't seen the full Dark Knight trilogy in a while now, so that might well change at some point.
@phantom42 Have you ever heard of the concept of "The Death of the Author"?
For me Dark night > Batman begins > dark night rises > Iron man 1 > some x film > some y film..............etc etc etc > Iron man 3 > ...................................1000 more etc.....................................> Iron man 2
@DrRDizzle not by that name, at least. tl;dr on the concept?
14:02
@phantom42 It's the idea that analysis/criticism of a work should be done without taking the intention of the author/creator into account.
I'm not sure I wholly agree with it, but I find the concept interesting. I mean, does it really matter if Brad Bird says his work isn't objectivist when it so clearly is?
i get both sides of the argument. any art is personal - both to the artist and to the viewer. both bring their own lives and prejudices to a piece. moreover, what the artist sometimes intends isn't even what they end up creating - nevermind the personal interpretations of a finished piece.
Something as fundamentally collaborative as a film/TV show has many "authors", too. Who is to say which intention matters the most? The directors? The editors? The cinematographers? The actors?
and any viewer absolutely has the right to feel any way, or be offended in any way. but that doesnt make some complaints any less of a stretch.
@phantom42 You're right, it doesn't. Some analysis' do feel as if they are looking for evidence to support an opinion, rather than forming an opinion based on the evidence. But I do like the idea that after it's completion, a work stands on it's own and the creators "intent" ceases to matter.
Just thought it was an interesting notion.
it is
and probably something that comes up in real art classes
14:09
i also prefer to ignore authors personal beliefs on topics(IRL), unless they force them down your throat in their works. but alot of good authors can be nutjobs but keep that out of their writting
i know the subject has come up in my circle of friends, but we're usually many drinks in by the time it does.
@Himarm the OSC and scott adams conundrum
right enders game is good, despite whats his name being almost off the deepend
his racism starts peeking through in later ender books, IMO
i had a debate with someone the other day would wouldnt read brandon sandersons works, purely because he was a mormon. he almost never speaks about his personal beliefs
but she tied him in with OSC
@phantom42 He's racist too? I thought he was just a homophobe (as if that would be better).
14:16
if their bias's are able to stay out of their works i dont mind reading them, if they are really bad people irl, i might get their works illegally, but if the work is good ill still read it
> “Having been anointed from the start of his career because he was that magical combination—a black man who talks like a white man (that's what they mean by calling him "articulate" and a "great speaker")—he has never had to work for a living, and he has never had to struggle to accomplish goals. He despises ordinary people, is hostile to any religion that doesn't have Obama as its deity, and his contempt for the military is complete.”
re: obama
that is the general feeling among the republican party as a whole anyway lol
in the later ender books, his disdain for the middle east and their religions becomes apparent. anyone with brown skin is suddenly a treacherous villian
well they did glass the middle east
in the books
prior to the books*
and islam was outlawed in endersgame already
and technicly christianity was barely tolerated
except sister carlotta is a hero
14:21
@phantom42 Call me crazy, but that doesn't read as racist to me. The sentiment behind it may be rooted in race, but death of the author and all that.
and bean becomes fairly religious
Oh wait, never mind, I just realised he's implying that black people aren't articulate unless they speak like white people.
the church is pretty shity in enders trilogy though
its actually surprising he has catholics in such good light
catholics dont reconginse mormans as christians im pretty sure
potential second simposon movie
14:48
sorry, was in a meeting.
yeah, OSC has more overt comments out there if you dig around, that was just the first result in my search to bring something up.
15:00
lovely. looks like one of our dogs may be developing bladder stones
started reading a new manga that was tagged similar to one i liked, in the first chapter brother sees sister naked, finds out sister isnt blood related, sister gets into car crash and looses her memory, brother has to wash sister by hand, then give sister rectal suppository...
are bladder stones like kidney stones were they just ultra sonic break them up?
google says surgery if you cant get them taken care of by diet
can sometimes do a non-surgical procedure using a catheter
basically trying to flush them out
so what diet changes do you do for a dog, switch up its dog food? or give them like fresh meat
special medicine for the moment to try to treat it, but afterwards less protein, apparently
less protein? thats so weird dont dogs naturally eat like 100% protien? animal health boggles my mind
15:06
100% anything diet is bad
except rum
or pizza
in C# on Stack Overflow Chat, 2 days ago, by mikeTheLiar
My ex-girlfriend had a weird fetish, she used to dress up like herself and act like a total fucking bitch all the time.
@Himarm there is also special high-pH food for those; our cats are all on them because Florida is apparently poison to cats.
i tried living on rum and pizza in college, it worked pretty good, didnt even gain weight, continuing the diet for 5 more years though has had consequences
my cat has to eat the special tummy cat food, she throws litterally everything else up, other then straight chicken
ufff, don't talk about food
I am hungry and want to be lazy for an hour
that gif looks suspiciously familar
15:11
so, I installed this 'fitness' app on my phone that somehow thinks it can track when i sleep.
it turns out, it just tracks when i put the phone down.
grrr....
