Pom Klementieff cast for GotG2 in some unspecified role that specifically called for an asian actress.
i have no idea who she is, but i like her hair.
apparently she was in the crap remake of oldboy.
mr freeze will be showing up on gotham
or, at least victor fries will

2 hours later…
05:52
Gotham is growing over me, i liked their changes in season 2.
@phantom42 now we need to see how much he will like freeze. Don't tone down to make him captain cold

3 hours later…
08:49
@AnkitSharma I'm willing to bet that he won't actually do anything, because Gotham is nothing but set up for a series that will never happen.
@DrRDizzle Too much have been changed in season 2. And your statement is based on season 1
It's more serialized and impactfull.
@AnkitSharma It's still an exercise in futility.
@DrRDizzle how?
Gotham city is equally important as batman as did seeing how it reached there too.
09:06
@AnkitSharma Because you won't ever see Batman in the series. Ever. It's a prequel to something that will never happen.
@DrRDizzle that's the charm. Rather then seeing one more version of spider-man or batman, we are going further into a city, one of the most popular one from comics
@AnkitSharma If that's the case, then why does the series focus on Batman's enemies before they were enemies and a child Bruce Wayne?
@DrRDizzle That was the point of the show. Didn't you got it?
It was to show the city before batman and their people.
@AnkitSharma Then it isn't exploring the city at all. It's purely setting up villains for a hero that will never appear.
@DrRDizzle So you were expecting it to show landscape view of city for full episode?
09:11
@AnkitSharma No, I was expecting the show to tell the story of Commissioner James Gordon before Gotham went to shit. If all these people were already messing Gotham up before Batman turned up, it takes away an important part of his character - that the villains are a reaction to him, not the other way around.
@DrRDizzle so why to watch a show if its expected to show same old story. Change makes thing interesting.
@AnkitSharma I'm not expecting or wanting it to tell the same old story. I wanted something like The Wire, just set in Gotham with the occasional reference to Batman lore - instead Gotham appeared to be nothing more than a series of references to Batman lore, loosely wrapped around a boring story.
@DrRDizzle you means like a plain detective show in gotham city?
Then why to even name it gotham
Call it CSI 2.0
@AnkitSharma This is my exact point. It's a TV show with an awful central concept.
@DrRDizzle you overuse words like awful , worse just for the sake of your personal opinion
Even your justification are like, its worse, my friend didn't liked it etc etc
09:21
@AnkitSharma Do you really want me to write "in my opinion" after every single message? We are talking about almost purely subjective things 99% of the time, of course it is my opinion.
@DrRDizzle i know but they sound more like general opinion by sound.
@DrRDizzle anyways did you watched Constantine or vixen?
@AnkitSharma I did not. I actually don't watch much new TV at all.
@DrRDizzle ohhh
Anyways you can go for vixen, its too short. And it shows everything which i expected from supergirl to show.
@AnkitSharma I have literally no interest in watching an animated short series set in the world of Arrow / Flash.
@DrRDizzle ok
@DrRDizzle I am just a big fan of DCAU and love to see good animation too and vixen looked good to me, not as good as DCAU but worked on me
09:34
@AnkitSharma I've watched parts of Batman Beyond when I was a kid, and a couple of episodes of Batman: The Animated Series since. I'd like to see more of the DCAU, but I simply don't have the time to binge watch over 20 years of cartoons.
@DrRDizzle DCAU was very well established one. And i just missed many episode of batman beyond, static shock and full zeta project but rest i know.
DCAU even gave many character to comics in return. Good one.
@AnkitSharma I only recognise the name of one of those show.
The DC animated universe (DCAU) is a fan term for a series of popular animated television series and related spin-offs produced by Warner Bros. Animation which share the same continuity. Most of these series are adapted from DC Comics properties but are considered non-canon. This continuity is also sometimes referred to as the Timmverse (after producer Bruce Timm, the continuity's most consistent creative influence), and in the past as the Diniverse (after writer Paul Dini, who had mostly departed from Warner Bros. Animation when Justice League was in production). == List of DCAU media == While...
@AnkitSharma Huh, I didn't realise that not all of the animated films are canon.

1 hour later…
10:49
it is unlikely that fries will become the full "mr freeze" villain, but we are now seeing more and more of some villains early careers. zasz is already a homicidal maniac, and firefly now has his her first suit and scars, and we've already seen full versions of a few (AFAIK) lesser villains like balloonman. and of course, we've got penguin. riddler is going more and more insane. and we're supposed to have a definitive joker by seasons end.
@phantom42 All of these character will be 40+ when Bruce Wayne becomes Batman then. One thing that I really like about Batman (and something that the best stories about Batman use frequently) is the idea of Batman's villains as a reaction to him. The Dark Knight points this out directly, that people like Scarecrow and The Joker are an escalation caused by the appearance of Batman. He's trying to make things better by tackling crime but turns Gotham into a playground for super villains instead.
@phantom42 If the villains all already existed before Batman, that is completely lost.
@phantom42 Add in the fact that Batman will almost certainly never actually show up in Gotham and I don't see how anything the series does can be at all satisfying.
Although I'm just a Marvel fanboy, what do I know.
11:07
to my knowledge, penguin has always been portrayed as being a good deal older than bruce, and penguin only seems to be 10-15 years older now. joker is up in the air. their possible-feint was only a few years older. catwoman and ivy are roughly his age. scarecrow is roughly his age. freeze has always been older to my knowledge, and it doesnt really matter if he is since he's cryo-vacced.
@phantom42 But the fact that they already exist as notable criminals/characters in the world is the issue.
@DrRDizzle it can only be the issue if they show grown up batman to fight with all of them again for 2-3 seasons. If not then its all fine
@DrRDizzle LOL
11:28
@AnkitSharma I just don't see how it can ever be anything more than a waste of time, but to each his own.
@DrRDizzle everything is a waste of time in that sense.
@AnkitSharma Even in-universe though. The show can do nothing but set-up Batmans villains, which is silly when we will never see Batman. I said earlier that it's a prequel to something that can never happen, so I don't see why it exists beyond "people like Batman, right?"
@DrRDizzle if its a prequel to nothing then its not even a prequel and it can do things , like it did to joker in season 2
12:03
@AnkitSharma But it is a prequel to nothing, it's a prequel to a show that will never exist. Gotham won't actually be able to create a Batman, just like Arrow had to stop using Suicide Squad. So you've got set up with no pay off.
@AnkitSharma I'm not saying that you can't like it or anything, but to me it's a poor idea for a TV show, one that I can't find any reason to watch.
you keep saying that it's a prequel to nothing because it can never show Batman.
you are arguing that it's a bad show because it will never be a show that it never tries or intends to be
its not a prequel
is a police procedural set in Gotham City
@MikeEdenfield One that (as far as I can see) does nothing but set up villains for a hero that it can never use.
i think drrdizzle wants gotham to be something it's not. that's fair, but it's alsoa little unfair to say "this apple sucks because i wanted an orange"
2
I'm not arguing that you have to like it. I'm just saying, if you don't like it, at least have valid complaints.
@DrRDizzle refer back to my message earlier. all of his a-liist rogues are so far within an a reasonable age range
12:11
"I don't watch it because some other show I invented in my head sounds like a terrible show" just sounds silly.
@phantom42 I don't want Gotham full stop, it's a truly awful idea for a TV show.
@MikeEdenfield No, I don't watch because the pilot did literally nothing to interest me and I haven't read anything about it that has made me want to since.
"I don't watch it because I have no interest in watching a show set in Gotham if it's not about Batman" is a different argument. I find no fault in that.
@phantom42 It's not age range I'm so much bothered about, it's that as far as I can see, the story of Gotham is so far just Commissioner Gordon meeting people who will become super important after the show ends.
i dont see a problem with that, but to each their own.
@phantom42 Because as I have said, it's set up that can never be paid off.
12:15
how is it never paid off?
because we don't see batman fighting them?
@phantom42 Because they can't do anything that matters.
what?
what can't they do?
besides not fight batman
@phantom42 What can they do? As characters they are defined by the way that they are inverse to or mirror images of aspects of Bruce Wayne (when used well), which can't be done in a show where Bruce Wayne is a kid. They are reflections of something that doesn't exist.
@phantom42 It's a show that wants to further explore characters that have nothing worth exploring before Batman shows up
so you want it to be what the comics are.
/nolan
but it's not
you want those versions.
@DrRDizzle that's a pretty declarative statement for someone who hasn't watched more than one episode
did you think that maybe gotham might decide to do something different with the characters and expand them in their own way?
your complaints are like saying, "i don't want to read these EU star wars books because these characters have nothing worth exploring before luke shows up" the whole point is to give them something worth exploring
@phantom42 No. If Gotham was a serial about Jim Gordon tackling the mob with Gotham PD and trying to clean up the city (and failing), it could be good. But the very first episode introduced Bruce Wayne, Selina Kyle, The Penguin, The Riddler, Poison Ivy and hinted towards The Joker, and they are just the ones I remember. Like I said, set up for a character that the show can never use.
12:22
how can they never use them if they're using them constantly?
they're doing a whole lot of using the Penguin for a character they can never use
@phantom42 Let me gather my thoughts a second.
of the ones you mentioned, poison ivy is the only one not really being explored
@MikeEdenfield So I meant Batman as the character that the show can never use, not The Penguin.
and that one was the one that made everyones eyes roll
12:24
also, because my experience with DC Comics is way spottier than my experience with Marvel comics:
0
Q: Is it true that Batman's supervillains exist as a reaction to Batman himself?

Mike EdenfieldThe basic premise behind the TV show Gotham is, in part, showing the origin stories of many of Batman's rogue's gallery before they were super villains. If you view the show as describing a Gotham City that will eventually become what we see in the comics, it's obvious that all of these villains ...

@phantom42 OK, so what have you actually learnt about any of these characters that you didn't already know from the various media that existed before Gotham?
@DrRDizzle learning something new is irrelevant IMO, particularly since i'm not a batfan or know most of their comics-histories but...
@phantom42 I'm not talking about events, I mean deep-tissue stuff - who these characters really are.
we're following penguin's rise to power as a mob boss. selena being an orphan, dealing with abandonment, and wanting to be good and bad at the same time. riddler's desire to be liked, and descent into madness, particularly now after he's killed the love of his life. scarecrow was experimented on by his father. the joker is unclear at the moment due to maybe being dead.
@phantom42 well said
12:31
@phantom42 Other than Penguins rise to power (which could be interesting as a story in it's own right), is there actually anything there that isn't conveyed well enough in other media? Selina is an anti-hero and always has been, and The Riddler constantly tests Batmans intelligence because he wants to know he is smarter. I don't know much about Scarecrow (but that seems totally extraneous to understanding who is), and The Joker is a wild card and nothing more.
@phantom42 Has any of this given you a deeper appreciation for the characters?
is gotham an "unnecessary" show? sure, especially since it doesn't exist within a shared universe. but all shows are ultimately "unnecessary"
the show is more about exploring them as people, and why they become villains. so, yes. riddler, for example is more interesting to me as a former forensic tech who wanted very much to be a part of the system and to just be accepted than just some megolomaniac who likes to ask riddles just to prove how smart he is.
@phantom42 But Gotham is unnecessary in that it's central concept adds nothing to anything, simply using these characters who work best in relation to Batman as a way to progress the main story of a character who works best in relation to Batman. But Batman can never show up.
jonathan crane as scarecrow has not been explored yet. his father was the one performing experiments. jonathan was just a test subject.
@DrRDizzle Joker is an Idea in the show and it played very well. We can't enjoy Penguins's rise without other characters involved. So it all make sense.
just because the characters are not being used "best" does not make it worthless
12:36
@DrRDizzle So you mean characters who work best in relation to Batman can never work without him. Why not?
@AnkitSharma Why can't we? Why do all these other bad guys have to exist around a character who is ultimately nothing more than a gangster with self-esteem issues? Why do we have to see references to the Batman comics paraded around?
@DrRDizzle Because the show is about Gautham city not new york city
this is the smallville argument all over again
"this show is stupid. he's never going to put on the cape or tights, so i'm not going to watch the show"
Its like saying a show awful because you can't relate with the idea.
@AnkitSharma Because as I said, when used best the various Batman villains (at least, the good ones) act as a dark mirror, reflecting aspects of Bruce Wayne/Batman. His villains serve to better define him as a character, and without that they are nothing more than eccentrics.
12:39
@DrRDizzle i don't think so.
i love that you're complaining that they're not being used "best" when you've watched exactly one episode.
2
They can work without him too. And you judgement are based on pilot only?
"i watched 2 minutes of this 2 hour movie. it's the worst movie ever."
@phantom42 At least Smallville tried to better define Clark Kent, rather than enemies that he wouldn't face for another 15+ years in different continuities.
@phantom42 because he want oranges as you earlier said :D
12:40
and gotham is better defining gordon
and all the villains
@phantom42 Well they can't be used as the mirror thing because Batman doesn't exist. It is a flawed concept from the start.
and currently, to some extent, bruce
@DrRDizzle so it's a flawed concept because it's not using the characters in the way you think is best? gotcha.
@DrRDizzle why to use them as mirror on the first place. That show is about them not batman.
@DrRDizzle "Agent of shield is not good because they can't show Black widow, nick Furry and hawkeye", sounds similar to your argument
@AnkitSharma And when Agents of SHIELD was trying to get by on references to the MCU films that they have no effect on, it wasn't a very god show. But now it is doing it's own thing and developing a story that doesn't require those links at all, it's a lot better.
Ooops i used not good rather then awful, worse or burden on earth
12:45
@phantom42 No, it's a flawed concept because it ignores the fact that no one cares about Jim Gordon as anything other than a contact for Batman.
@DrRDizzle because you don't care about jim gordon.
@DrRDizzle again a invalid point. You are judging one show on pilot only and other on its improved later episodes. Makes no sense.
@DrRDizzle many poeple don't care about SHIELD too but no one is a big word.
Many!=all
Few!=all
you!=all either
mrs.42 and i are quite interested in watching gordon trying to be an upstanding cop in a horribly corrupt city where he is constantly forced to compromise his ideals.
@phantom42 And the "look, here is a Batman reference that won't ever be paid off" doesn't get in the way of that?
i still dont see how it "wont ever be paid off"
12:48
@phantom42 but me and my some x friend not like the pilot episode . That makes the show worse show in the universe.
@AnkitSharma My friend loves Flash and Arrow though, I don't understand why you are so hung up on that.
@AnkitSharma sorry. my ankit-parser is on the fritz or failing.
@phantom42 Because it is setting up characters for a showdown that can never happen, while building Bruce Wayne up into a character that the show will have to end before he can become real. I don't see how you can't see that.
i guess because i dont see that as a problem or failure
this is the issue 0 of the comics
@DrRDizzle I am trying to define your "all" here.
All , never , awful , worse are big words
12:51
the "origins" storyline
its the road leading to the real story, not the beginning of it.
@phantom42 Someone once said that you should start your story as late as possible. Things like Gotham fly in the face of that.
oh, ok. so origin stories are inherently bad and should never be done because they start too early
@phantom42 he already said that. Maybe here or over Movies and TV that prequel have no sense/point.
@phantom42 In general, yes. There is a reason that both Flash and Supergirl had their main characters in costume by the end of the first episode.
"should" and "best" are not rules.
@DrRDizzle you'll note that the shows titles are flash and supergirl. you'll also note that the show we're talking about is called "gotham", not "batman".
12:56
@DrRDizzle i prefer to start the story as early as you can and keep it interesting.
watching National City trudge along with nothing happening is boring, so of course you skip to the part where Supergirl exists.
@MikeEdenfield I can't think of a good thing that does that. There is a reason that cold-openings are so effective.
much like deadwood, we're following the city and its inhabitants.
watching Gotham city trudge along with tons of crazy things happening is interesting.
Watching Smallville and Metropolis trudge along for 10 years before Superman appears was interesting for at least 6 of those years.
and in a sense, when you look at it like that, we are starting it in the middle, as the city has already started its descent into crap
@phantom42 But the story of Gotham is the story of Batman. The comics didn't start with 10 years of Jim Gordon and friends, why would a TV show exploring that be required? What does it add?
12:58
the TV show is exploring that because it's never been explored before
the whole point is to do something new
by definition it's adding new content every minute
it is not a comic adaptation
The Dark Knight movies were just a rehash of a previous comic. They didn't add anything new. But they were awesome.
so that whole 'what does it add' argument doesn't wash for me.
@MikeEdenfield But they did, they explored the relationship between Batman and his villains in new ways, which, while taking inspiration from the comics, was never beholden to them.
@MikeEdenfield And the reason for that is that it isn't necessary.
13:04
So the point is it sucks because it doesn't have batman?
@AnkitSharma For fucks sake.
@AnkitSharma If you missed the point anymore you'd be at risk of stabbing yourself with it.
@DrRDizzle But that was never even intended to be. SO it might be not you cup of tea rather then being awful.
@DrRDizzle i am not understating you point because you argument have no justification at all.
@DrRDizzle I have to say, that's what I interpret your statements to be saying as well. "Gotham sucks because Batman will never show up so there's no point in having it."
if you mean something else I'm not seeing it.
@DrRDizzle i am not understating you point because you argument have no justification at all.
56 mins ago, by phantom42
i think drrdizzle wants gotham to be something it's not. that's fair, but it's alsoa little unfair to say "this apple sucks because i wanted an orange"
Can't be said any better
17 mins ago, by Dr R Dizzle
@phantom42 Because it is setting up characters for a showdown that can never happen, while building Bruce Wayne up into a character that the show will have to end before he can become real. I don't see how you can't see that.
that's what i'm seeing as the main complaint. am i not correct?
followed by it being unnecessary because it's not new/interesting
13:09
But he said its new indirectly
@MikeEdenfield I mean that Gotham is redundant as a show because it has nothing to add to a franchise that never needed a prequel series showing us Jim Gordon 15 years before the actual story of the franchise existed.
is it a prequel to a series if it's not in the same universe as anything?
@phantom42 It's an example of the main complaint, not the complaint itself. That's one of the reasons for why I don't think the central concept is worthwhile.
@phantom42 Well yeah. The audience are expected to recognise these characters and know what will happen in the future.
except it's not those characters or the continuity. it's characters of the same name. there's a slight, but important distinction to be made there. much like changing the color of a character from comics to movie
and now i have to actually get some work done.
@phantom42 It's not in-continuity, no. But we are 100% meant to know what happens to Bruce Wayne in the future and his transformation into Batman and how all these characters end up becoming villains. It's a prequel in every sense of the word other than one, just like an unofficial book about James and Lily Potter would be a prequel.
13:40
it's a prequel to a rebooted continuity.

1 hour later…
14:48
its like X-Men First Class
@MikeEdenfield Kind of, except X-Men: First Class takes a lot of inspiration from the very early X-Men comics.
@MikeEdenfield It's more like if we saw a non-canon TV series focusing on Rose Byrne's character from X-Men: First Class before she met Xavier.
@MikeEdenfield And the show kept showing us mutant bad guys before they became important.
@MikeEdenfield And wasn't allowed to use any of the X-Men.
that's fair
the movie does at least show the characters everyone wants to see.
but it's the same idea: it's the origin story for some other universe.
before they were the X-Men
also. non-salted dry roasted peanuts is the biggest waste of molecules ever invented.
@JackBNimble If I could star this a hundred times I'd be mad I couldn't star this more.
15:42
wow.
that question's getting a lot of love.
@DrRDizzle so thanks for that :)
where's thaddeus? he can put this thing to bed.
that's what I'm hoping.
though the one guy that says 'well it's all 3' seems pretty close.
I assume the answer is probably going to be "it used to be X, but after the crisis of infinite pants, it was Y"
@MikeEdenfield You are welcome. It's an interesting question
16:45
Thor: Ragnarok may have Hulk or Bruce Banner allwatcher.com/index.php/2015/10/29/…
> I don’t really know that much about it, but I think it’s going to be a buddy picture with Thor and Bruce Banner.
> I think they’ll probably fight. There’s no doubt, everyone wants us to fight at one point.
Well, they fought on the Helicarrier for a few moments.
Although, I feel like if he pinned the Hulk down with the hammer (like he did to Loki) the Hulk would be incapacitated.
hrm.
could the hulk have punched out a hole in the Helicarrier under himself, then as he fell, rolled out of the way and let mewmew fall to Earth in front of him?
@MikeEdenfield maybe.
future-Hulk Mastro somehow managed to put mewmew into a display case
but then again in -616 lots of people have lifted the hammer
16:57
@MikeEdenfield nah. hulk doesnt punch things like walls or floors.
When Stark encased Hulk in that pen, the Hulk just like dug he way out from under it.
that's definitely more of a cap thing
I WANT.
mew-mew-mjolnir
meh.
wait. does mewmew have the ears too?
$35 and shipped from Moscow
@phantom42 I believe those are all the same hammer just different sizes
most from the front and one from the back
it has ears and feet
@MikeEdenfield Also called, Russia just stole $35 from you.
@phantom42 I'd star this but I'm morally opposed to starring things. I'm running a campaign completely devoid of star influence. no dark-stars here.
@MikeEdenfield Don't worry, I've got you covered
oh no. why is every star beeping twice now?
17:00
wait. your stars beep?
i didn't mean star. i had stars on the brain.
every ping is beeping twice in rapid succession.
like BEE-BEEP.
So, is the hulk pinned down by mewmew hammer a good question? Or is it just Toad's spit.
i dunno what kind of answers your might get.
@JackBNimble It worked on Loki
we know mewmew doesn't work exactly like in -616 because Cap can't lift it, so we only have -19999 to work with?
17:08
@MikeEdenfield He almost lifted it.
troo
ask it.
@JackBNimble I don't think it's a good question. I wouldn't downvote, but I wouldn't upvote either
@DrRDizzle What if it was adherred to his body using Toad's spit and placed by a time traveling robot?
@JackBNimble Ah, know that's completely different, and a good question. See if you can ask if it would be more effective than Star Trek transporters too.

Q: Could Thor use Mjölnir to pin Hulk to the ground?

Jack B NimbleIn Thor (the movie), we see Thor (the character) pin Loki (the trickster) to the ground using Mjölnir (the hammer). (superfluous parenthetical comment here). Why scifi doesn't have time travelling robot question in MCU
Anyways, DC/Marvel might have time travelling robots in comics
@AnkitSharma The little robot that helps Booster Gold travels backwards in time with him.
@JackBNimble yeah, that one i forgot but i have very little knowledge of booster gold and his arcs. Only know him from DCAU and he was underplayed in it.
18:14
@AnkitSharma That is basically I know of him as well (JLU), but he came from the future and brought that little robot with him. So.. time traveling robot.
I only know Booster Gold from Smallville
I didn't last long enough to get that far.
I know nothing about smallville except first episode
now you sound like @DrRDizzle
@MikeEdenfield lol, i still didn't called it worse, awful etc etc.
18:17
I always watch at least 2 episodes of any show I think its even remotely possible I'll like
@MikeEdenfield Not true - I haven't seen even one episode of Smallville.
the first episode is rarely a good indication of how good a show will be.
I'm hopeful the SuperGirl gets better.
I watched only one epsidoe because after taht i got to know that its too longer for me. So........
I gave Scorpion two episodes, what a mistake that was.
18:18
I have gave Under the dome 3 season and hated it and will love to kill its executive producer with bare hand
heh.
Mrs. Nimble and I watched Under the Dome.
She was a lot more into it than me.
Season one was good then a big down slope
18:32
I never finished this last season.
I think I got about 1/2 through
soon as I found out it wasn't coming back for S4 I bailed
