it had an 8% on rottentomatoes last i looked last night
only did like 26 million over the weekend, after a forecasted 43 or something like that. 120m production budget (not accounting for marketing). someone's losing their job.
@MichaelEdenfield They've actually already stated that they are "dedicated to these characters and the Marvel Universe we have created" in regards to FF. Doesn't mean much, but interesting.
I knew that, I think people are speculating that they're not going to get their own movie, though.
they'll try to integrate them into the x-universe
they might be dedicated to those characters, but this is 3 poorly-received movies in a row for the franchise, eventually they're going to give up
Plus, that "dedicates to these characters" line sounds like marketing speak for "no way in hell we're letting Marvel get them back"... though I'm not 100% convinced yet.
@MichaelEdenfield I can't see Fox letting the rights to FF revert to Marvel Studios at any point in the naer future, although people more knowledgable than me seem the think that after director Josh Trank tweeted about the version of the film he had a year ago being much better, Fox might have to rethink the franchise as a whole. For starters, the last thing they want to do is stick FF in an X-Men film if that might turn people off seeing it.
Additionally, the implication that there is a good version of the film somewhere might mean they release a Directors Cut, or a Rogue Cut-like version of the film in order to gain back public support.
What they don't want to do is let Marvel get the characters back and make an excellent film out of them - that would just make the executives at Fox look like bad businessmen and worse film makers.
I think most importantly, Fox are currently looking to make a live action X-Men TV show, which they need permission from Marvel to make. Depending on how much Fox actually want to make this TV show (and how badly Marvel want the FF rights back), I can see a deal being made where Marvel get FF and Fox are allowed to make the X-Men TV show.
@MichaelEdenfield In an ideal world, Marvel Studios get the FF rights back and hire Joshua Trank to direct what ends up being the best film ever made in the biggest "Fuck you" the world has ever seen.
Fox may decide to cut their losses with the FF, because they have shown the inability to make money off them and if they keep trying their investory will riot. But they might be able to do a trade w/ Marvel and save themselves some face.
@phantom42 Interesting. I knew that Norton was unhappy about the lack of creative control he had over The Incredible Hulk, but I never knew things got that bad.
@phantom42 I do always wonder what Avengers Assemble/Avengers: Age of Ultron would have been like with Norton. I like Ruffalo, but I'm still curious about how the same scenes would have looked with Norton.
Like, I'd have a harder time believeing him as a scientist equal to Tony Stark, but an earier time believing he struggles with The Hulk/
@MichaelEdenfield what is the status of that review?
@MichaelEdenfield I made a few copy edits, typos and what not.
I also completely reversed your position, you loved the movie and think everyone in the world should see it. I'm writing this as I lay in the pile of money that Fox Studios left for me.
@phantom42 he played Dr. Sterns in The Incredible Hulk and he plays a newly-invented character in Fantastic Four... he mostly takes the role that General Ross plays in the Ultimate Fantastic Four series
I can't tell if he's genuinely a terrible actor, or if the material they gave him in those movies was just so bad that he couldn't manage to make it sound good.
At the very least, he needs to start picking better movies :)
@phantom42 it's pretty bad when one of the few good things I can think of to say about a movie is "At least they didn't try to show Kate Mara in her underwear"
I'm not sure, though he really just looked like an older Mr. Fantastic
> Reed Richards, played this time around by "Divergent" actor Miles Teller, can now warp the space around his mass, appearing to make his body lengthen.
At least the other 3 largely kept their powers. They even showed how Sue can fly
actually, I might have lied... I don't remember Sue being able to make other things invisible?
i forget what it was, but i just saw a headline this morning that mara had just signed on for some new movie
@MichaelEdenfield does the interracial family thing feel natural or forced, etc?
@JackBNimble supposedly dredd. the story is that the director wanted the final cut to be far less action-filled. the studio locked him out of the editing room.
the butterfly effect is generally considered to have a better ending thanks to the studio demanding the new ending. i disagree, but that's just me.
@phantom42 barely mentioned and totally not an issue. One quick line about her being adopted
@JackBNimble I've heard of a lot of small incidents where the studio changed part of some scene, but I'm not sure about any where they basically re-shot the whole movie.
@phantom42 I heard the same thing, that the final film was put together by Alex Garland after the director was booted. Alex Garland then went on to direct the incredible Ex Machina, so I can buy it
HTTYD was originally a much more direct translation until the studio told sanders/debois to stray. the studio wasn't super overbearing there, but they made the writers/directors scratch everything
i forget the guys specific relation, but either the writer or something like that on chronicle came out saying that trank's success on that movie was a fluke
I'm a huge Marvel fan and I'm not even going to bother seeing the movie. I'll just wait the 4 months for a DVD rental. That should tell you something about hype and/or fan expectations.
it's like someone at Fox went "this movie's 30 minutes too long, can we trim it down?" and someone else went "sure, we'll just cut that whole second out act"
@JackBNimble did you post a link to the SF&F blog to reddit?
@MichaelEdenfield I've been told the magic happens if you can get 10 upvotes in the first hour or so, if that happens, you'll have a chance of critical mass. Otherwise, you just disappear into obscurity.
What really blows me away is the Fantastick Four from 1602, which is really the 616, but only because the Captain America from 420 got sent to 616 before there were any heroes.
> With production chugging away at season four of The CW’s “Arrow,” two more have joined the show’s ever growing cast. Entertainment Tonight brings word that “Enlisted” star Parker Young has joined the series as a potential love interest for Willa Holland’s Thea Queen, while TheWrap reports that “True Blood” and “Hannibal” star Rutina Wesley has signed for a multi-episode arc.
i hope it's not a new love interest for thea. after everything with roy, that seems way too soon.
