1:14 AM
@Keen I like that he is huge....In the comics he goes up against the hulk, and that seems more plausible at this size.

1 hour later…
2:20 AM
I wonder if he is like living rock that regenerates. Maybe he can expand or shrink using other rock nearby.

11 hours later…
1:25 PM
shew.
just finished reading Secret Wars #1
thank god they put together that Prelude bundle or I'd have been really confused

2:15 PM
@MichaelEdenfield no spoilers! :3

this is the spoiler room!
and I thought you'd already read it?

I'm reading Avengers/New Avengers via TPB, so i'm like 8 months behind. once the collection i just ordered arrives later this week, i'll be like 5 months behind.

I've just finished #2 as well, and I still think I missed something important.

i read the FCBD teaser for secret wars.
which wasn't particularly spoilery, it's not like any other universes would be the last two survivors.

I am amused by the idea that Arrow knows some magic version of the rear-naked choke that makes a person appear dead until you take a nerve on their throat.

2:17 PM
I probably should have read all of New Avengers. The Secret Wars story picks up basically after New Avengers #1

I'm pretty sure if your heart stops, your brain is going to start dying.

@JackBNimble masao taught him, duh.

@JackBNimble And that's why you're not a ninja.

@Keen Well, I never took Ninjitus, but I DO know Aikido and Brazilian Jujitsu, as well as having done a year of Kenpo, a year or so of Judo, and wrestled in high school.
But, I guess they only taught me the basic version of the rear-naked choke.

@Keen so now I don't want to spoil anything for you but I'm really trying to figure out what I missed that led up to Secret Wars #2

2:20 PM
Anyways, I said it was amusing, because to me, it is.

I once had a bad case of ninjitus. Doc couldn't see me to cure me.

@JackBNimble as amusing as getting shot in the eye and the only side effect is getting a cooler eye?

I meant ninjitsu

indeed

2:21 PM
@MichaelEdenfield He hasn't come back yet, so in my mind, he is still dead from an arrow to the eye.

@MichaelEdenfield Having not read either issue of SW yet, I can only ask if you're aware of what happened in Avengers and New Avengers over the past ~3 years.

@Keen This question isn't about the incursions, which I assume is what the recent New Avengers has been about. I'm trying to figure out what Doctor Doom has been up to.
and I don't even know which version of Doctor Doom

because i can help there, and that stuff has been setting up all this secret wars business.
@MichaelEdenfield Ah, that might be in that collection that arrives on my doorstep later this week.

I'm contemplating signing up for Marvel Unlimited; how much of their stuff is available?

All that I've got is that he became aware of the incursions, and sought a solution. And it seems that solution may have made things good for Doom, and bad for everyone else.

2:24 PM
Yes that's the part I'm trying to track down.

@MichaelEdenfield Pretty much everything recent that's at least 6 months old.
which means your answer isn't there, as it's too recent a thing.

Marvel put together a "Prelude" to Secret Wars that had all the setup bits.
like, it had New Avengers #1 so you knew what incursion were.

Well, issue 2 is where Reed does a nice presentation that breaks it down.
He is real good at Powerpoint.

yeah I think it has #1-#3, it was a TPB and I didn't pay attention to where the issues ended. :)
I'm also trying to figure out why they included some of the stuff in the prelude.. like, they included the Miles Morales origin story.

that would be a good intro

2:26 PM
was that the first Ultimate comic?

No, not by a long shot.
the original Ultimate Spider-Man was.
but that was Peter Parker.
Miles came years later.

then I'm not sure why that was in there because so far Ultimate Spider-Man has been nowhere to be found.

Based on the Avengers FCBD, Miles will have a role to play in Secret Wars.

Is Tony Stark the only hero to suffer PTSD from his heroeing? Or is that a common theme?

And when he shows up, it's not like most people are familiar with him, so the intro probably helps.

2:28 PM
in Age of Ultron you could argue that Banner has it pretty bad :)

@JackBNimble If you mean in Iron Man 3, yeah, that's pretty rare.
In the superhero genre, they're usually big tough dudes who don't have feelings.

ok. in the Marvel Wikia it says this about Secret Wars:
> On one side of the Multiverse, Doctor Doom was confronting the Beyonders. They demanded to know who dared stand before them, and he presented himself.
I need to find that but of course there's no references.
THPT
then of course there's like 4 dozen new mini series going on at the same time. too much for my brain to organize
@Keen do you have the Marvel Unlimited app?

@MichaelEdenfield For another week or two, yeah.
I regularly get a month here or there due to free/cheap codes.

I'm guessing that that the MU mobile app is completely separate from the Marvel mobile app and that I'll have to use two different apps to read my comics :\

@MichaelEdenfield Yes, and the MU app isn't as ...polished as the Marvel/Comixology app.

2:35 PM
now... if I buy marvel stuff from comixology it will show up in my Marvel collection, once I sync them... does it work the other way around?

@MichaelEdenfield Your Marvel collection is just a subset of your Comixology purchases, once you've synced accounts.
You can dump the Marvel app and just use Comixology.

does that include things I bought directly from Marvel already, though?
I guess once I read them it won't matter a whole lot

@MichaelEdenfield Yes?

Like the bulk of my Comixology library is free digital copies that come with Marvel hardcover purchases.
Which are redeemed just like that free comic bundle that we all got from buying Age of Ultron tickets.

2:48 PM
nodnod.
I don't have enough room in my house to by physical comics :\
just buying one Dresden book or Sanderson novel every year is bad enough...

Dresden Files, that guy is coming to the Salt Lake Comic Con.
I guess assuming I once again granted a press pass, maybe I can ask a question for you.

I can't think of one off-hand but if I do I'll let you know :)
@Keen it seems like everything I need to know about Doom is also probably in the New Avengers, just revealed in flashbacks starting around Issue #22
so I guess I'll be buying up that series now

uhhh, one sec
No, don't start there.

no, i'm gonna start with #4 and go up

Issue 22 doesn't have Doom. 23 does, but just as a cameo, due to him being Valeria's (and Franklin's?) babysitter or something.
His real interest starts up later on, I think in the Time Runs Out arc.
@MichaelEdenfield That works too. New Avengers is some good stuff, especially if you liked those first 3 issues.
After a few volumes, it does hook up with Avengers, around the time of Original Sin.

3:00 PM
hrm. i have Avengers #1 from the AoU pack but it's the only one I haven't read. I'm exhausting my comics budget here trying to catch up.

heh
well, marvel unlimited can make this cheaper.

looks like Marvel Unlimited has up through #25. Probably smarter to get a month of that to catch up.
yah.
i was just checking.

pick that up, plow through 2.5 years of comics, then buy a couple of collections to get closer to the present.

huh. $100 for a year of Unlimited Plus plus 15% off all digital purchases.
tempting...

Oh yeah, I guess if you don't buy physical comics, that is a deal.
I get 10% off my physical purchases from my comic shop, and I like having a hard copy.
Although be sure to run the math. Are you going to be using MU every month? Or is this going to be a 'I haven't returned a Netflix disc in 4 months' sort of thing?

2 hours later…
4:51 PM
yeah I'm trying to figure out if the 15% is really gonna save me anything.
especially since, one I get to the point where I'm buying them individually I probably won't need MU anymore
I prefer having physical copies of books and stuff, i just have nowhere to put them anymore. there's books stacked all over my room
stacked on my computer, my TV, my desk, my windows
estimating by how much of my bookshelves I've scanned into Goodreads so far I would estimate I've got ~500 books in my house :\
and when some of those are this size:
Wheel of Time and Harry Potter, side by side, take up an entire 5 foot shelf each :\

5:25 PM
Batmobile on set of Suicide Squad:
The video of the Batmobile taking a turn is worth a chuckle.

There is no way that Batmobile is passing inspections, it doesn't have mud flaps!
I never liked the Nolan Batmobile look.

5:41 PM
I buy very few hardcopy comics anymore. Anything Kabuki related, and an occasional TPB if there's a really good deal. Everything else is digital. Most, I don't even bother buying, just reading through Marvel Unlimited.

6:18 PM
@JackBNimble did you get my blog submissions?
I did Supergirl for you but also, one of the summer shows released their episode one 2 weeks early so I just wrote a review of that too. (Since I doubt anyone else is going to watch it :))

@MichaelEdenfield Nice.
I'll review them and then figure out when to post them.

When is Supergirl officially set to air?

the second one is a review of a show that premiers June 2.
Supergirl isn't until the fall but it's also "hot news"
so that's all on you :)

6:23 PM
for some reason i expected the blog software to support stack markup ahaha

@MichaelEdenfield Which summer show?

Stitchers
we really need an IMDB onebox

Ah, Stitchers is basically I, Zombie.
In that they read the minds of deceased people to solve murders.

12
A: Can we one-box imdb links in chat?

balphaSorry, ain't gonna happen. IMDB doesn't allow it.

6:27 PM
@MichaelEdenfield Huh. goes to read blog post

@JackBNimble it is, but watching it, it's more like Source Code
@Keen I dunno if Jack's posted it yet.

Doesn't matter, I'm an admin on the blog, so I see everything.

ah.
do you want me to make a "read early blog post hammer" macro?
in fact, the first episode basically was the plot of source code, if you exclude the alternate-timeline ending bit.
err. sorry. spoilers?

I didn't see Source Code, so..
So there were a couple of typos I fixed in Supergirl.

Yeah, iZombie is basically what I'd use as a touchstone for this too.

6:30 PM
I watch iZombie every week and, TBH, it wasn't my first thought.

Aw man, Allison Scagliotti plays a normal person who gets dragged into this stuff? She was a great tech in Warehouse 13.

The age old question. Is website one word or two.

@Keen she isn't a "normal person"
she's a doctorate student in neuroscience with a minor in computer genius

Yeah, I just got to that point in the review. cool beans

I have to say, tho. the "hacking" bit in the first episode did not make me want to smack my head into concrete

6:33 PM
\o/

the "hacker" took a photo of a desktop wallpaper that had the mac addr on it (which is the dumbest part of the whole setup), then use an exploit she wrote to get behind the police firewall and find that mac addr

If she is completely unaware of the passage of time, how is she a functioning student or anything.
For some reason I keep missing my classes, can't really understand why...

she gives off a VERY psychopath-like vibe
she uses factual and observational clues to train herself to deal
like, she can tell how long time has passed by how long in takes her to walk somewhere, or cook dinner, or read X pages of a book

She is unable to perceive someone as getting older?

there's a scene in the show where she explains it
I think she can tell that they look older
but if she had no seen them for a few years and they didn't look much different, would have no concept.
as I mention.. it's not a real syndrome, I did some research.
the closest thing to "temporal dysplasia" I found in the psychology texts has nothing to do with perception of time
but like, the opening scene is, her dad died. and she shows 0 remorse. and she later explains "as soon as I saw his body, to me, he had been dead forever."
they're also making out like she has no social skills because she can't grasp the idea of someone being mad at her "for a long time" or what "losing a long-time friend" means, etc.
if this was on in the fall up against some other decent sci-fi show I probably would skip it, but if it were in its own timeslot I'd watch.
it's decent

6:39 PM
So now, which one to post first and when and why and what not

there's a bunch of SyFy shows starting in June, too.
it's probably too late to write a "review" of Olympus :\

I guess I'll publish Supergirl today, and do Stichers on Friday.

I've watch a whole slew of really obscure SyFy shows lately, they're on some kind of "mythology show" kick.
The Almighty Johnsons was about Norse Gods, Atlantis and Olympus are about the Greeks.
I could do a "retro-review" series where I review shows after the season!

Oh, forgot that I was banned from the dc-comics reddit

@MichaelEdenfield This would still be useful for a lot of people who wait for the show/season to hit netflix and then binge on the whole thing.

6:44 PM
Marvel's movie deal with Sony and/or Fox wouldn't stop them from making TV shows, right?
@phantom42 true. I might do that.
I will watch all the crap noone else does. :)

I'm still seeing reviews for Daredevil hitting google news.

I can do Bitten, Lost Girl, Olympus, and Atlantis off the top of my head
though Lost Girl's almost over.
Continuum
anyone else here actually seen Supergirl?

nope. i had hoped to watch it this past weekend and never got a chance
well, i did... but then i decided to play video games instead
same difference

:)
I played so much Assassin's Creed this weekend I have sea shanties stuck in my head

You have only overplayed a game if you start to have dreams about it.

6:53 PM
I've only ever dreamed Tetris, Metroid, Zelda, and Mario
Tetris is the worst, I start seeing Tetris in the bathroom tiles when I'm in the shower

Tetrominoes everywhere.

I'm like "if I just moved those white squares one to the left they'd fall and make a line..."
goddamnit.
@JackBNimble if I make a revision to my post does it have to be reviewed again?
I found a lot of typos :(

@MichaelEdenfield I don't think so.

oh come on now, that image was FUNNY

The sick cat thing?
I always find all my typos after I publish...

6:59 PM
@JackBNimble You can always schedule them a few days apart.

@Keen I did.

Stitchers doesn't air for ~1 week. So that could probably be posted later in the week.

is there a quick way to get to the dashboard?

That is the link I always use.

k.
i was looking for like a 'dashboard' link somewhere.

7:00 PM
@MichaelEdenfield Unclear. Marvel's been doing cartoons for Spider-Man for a few years now. Same with Hulk and Avengers.

other than in the bottom half of the 'how to contribute' page.
@Keen they still doing an x-men cartoon?
someone at work was asking my why DC was doing all these TV shows and Marvel's only done 1 1/2

So they have cartoon TV rights to that, but there's rumors of a live-action X-Men show that Fox is doing, so it seems Fox has those rights.
@MichaelEdenfield I don't think so? I think Wolverine and the X-Men was the most recent one, and that was like 4 years ago.

i can't edit it :(

@MichaelEdenfield Marvel's been doing a ton of cartoons, and then there's AoS and Agent Carter.

yeah I think they meant live-action shows.

7:02 PM
Like, over the past 20 years there's been a stupid number of Spider-Man cartoons alone.
@MichaelEdenfield Sure

I guess an X-Men live action show would be really expensive

@MichaelEdenfield I think it'd just be called: "Heroes"

@MichaelEdenfield shrug look at Flash. And soon Supergirl and Legends. CGI costs have dropped to the point where weekly superpowers are feasible.

someone needs to do a Saved By The Bell set at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters
Screech could be someone that an actually screech
Zach could literally freeze time
Jessie could convert anything she ate to an unrealistically mild form of amphetamines
@Keen that's true. I guess you only need to film Nightcrawler BAMFing one time and just reuse it

Slater would be colossus, obviously.
@MichaelEdenfield Banshee
Oh, I see. NM.
I should either pay attention to work OR to chat.

7:07 PM
@JackBNimble I am apparently no longer allowed to edit a post that's been published :(
I should re-read my Stitchers one, now that I think about it

How do we feel about the rumors of Jaden Smith as Static Shock?

@phantom42 Meh, I'm just happy that we're getting more Static.

I only ever watched the cartoon. I didn't really like it.

@phantom42 It was extremely 90's, from what I recall.

apparently, there were plans to do more with Harley on Arrow
> “We had big plans for Harley," said Holland, referencing the character's brief cameo in season two. "But, I guess something came down from DC execs that told us to shut it down. I mean we had that tease with the pigtails and the ARGUS outfit but, we’ll never see it. We would love to Harley in 'Arrow' but it will never happen.”

7:13 PM
I read that this morning. :(

interesting that they shut down harley in specific, but let them do all the other suicide squad stuff

@phantom42 Uhh, the article I read said that we wouldn't see them again for a while due to the movie.

i wonder if a lot of people are going to view atom as a rip-off of ant-man come next season.
@Keen I hadn't read that, but it would make sense. But they've featured other members pretty prominently in general up to now.
including after the harley tease

@phantom42 I think the idea is that the movie has cut off their access. So don't expect them to return in the next season of Arrow.
@phantom42 I'm just glad he can finally shrink. Up until now he's just been an Iron Man knockoff.

@phantom42 they did kill off Deadshot almost as soon as they announced Will Smith playing him.
I'll be interested to see if ARGUS vanishes completely from Arrow, though, since Amanda Waller's in the movie.
I assume we're probably done with Katana, and Captain Boomerang seemed like a one-off villain

7:27 PM
@MichaelEdenfield Pfft, no. Captain Boomerang is an important Flash villain. He'll be back.

if the movie guys allow it :)

Katana could go either way. She finished the season alive, so I bet we'll see her return eventually.

he's an important Flash villain that's never been on Flash

Oh crap, there's a Katana in the film.
bah

yah all those people I mentioned are in the film

7:28 PM
@MichaelEdenfield Wait, really? He was only on Arrow?

I don't think he personally showed up in Flash, they just brought one of his boomerangs to STAR labs

wiki says he showed up in the season 0 flash comic, but has only been mentioned on the show

yeah, that's what I'm reading too

8:04 PM
@MichaelEdenfield tell me what your typos are and I can fix them.

2 hours later…
9:41 PM
ok, only two.
not as bad as I thought.
@JackBNimble I'll just tell you them here, it's not much.
Ninth Paragraph, starting with "it felt like there was chopped..." should be "...it felt like certain scenes were chopped up from longer, more coherent ones."
Tenth Paragraph: "seem like they’s supposed to be " --> "seem like they're supposed to be "
i re-re-re-proofread my other one, hopefully I caught them all :\

10:02 PM
@MichaelEdenfield got it
