[contd.] Nowhere in that post does it suggest that the "solution you are looking for an alternative to" has to be something you've tried, just that you have to explain what is wrong with the "normal" solution. That includes "I tried it and it didn't work", but also "I don't own the right equipment", "my X is broken", "it has a side effect I don't want", and so on. If you want to exclude all these other reasons and only allow "I tried it and it didn't work" you should make that much, much clearer in your draft post. It doesn't specifically say that you have to actually try something.
one thing to be careful about (and this is from outside experience), if you spend too much time refining the rules, then the changes will probably turn more members off - nothing will be ever perfect

Just to be clear: I really appreciate what you're doing for the site, and I'm absolutely on board that it's necessary.....I'm just not sure why this specific instance is a problem with "what have you tried?"

@Shokhet Mostly by how it's worded - it sounds more like, 'these are the parameters, how can I work around them?' than 'I've tried these things, and they aren't working for this reason.'
@J.Musser Yes, people have used it as an example of on-topicness....although I'm not sure how much of that was the question, and how much of that was the answer.....

@J.Musser Yes, I understand. The only problem is that for you to have a link, I need to have uploaded online already. I understand how StackExchange works; at that point I might as well just use a link to where I uploaded it rather than have imgur upload it.

I guess the thing about code golf is that it takes time to answer questions. On some sites, you can simply write whatever comes to your mind, but with code golf, you actually have to solve the problems and (in the case of code-golf) golf your code before posting it. So answering takes quite a bit more effort.
It's the result of all the extended discussions we have been having in this room. Some of the proposed changes we want to add have been starred on the wall.

Oh. I haven't read closely at many questions, but I read a bunch on meta and also the highest voted questions to see what questions should be like. I did discover basically the exact content of your comment there.
@J.Musser That makes sense. For things like cuts, I can think of answers like "use tissue paper pressed against the cut to stem bleeding". But that doesn't seem like a good lifehack

Most notably: added a section about medical questions, and clarified the section about 'what have you tried', also a small readability edit on the part about psychological questions.
@J.Musser Or edit the question after the site stabilizes, to change it from a 'change to how things are going' to 'the authoritative post by which the scope of the site is judged', which it would be in the first case, but after the site stablizes, some of the 'change' aspects of the post can be removed.

@Shokhet If you mean odd behaviors by former Kevin Johnsrude, he is in the process of deleting his account, after a meta rant in which he described how bad I was. :)
@J.Musser People with bad answers, I think the question problem is being solved. But the answer quality is very bad, there is no research and it is disgusting seeing 2 sentence answers.
@J.Musser I don't count that as a success -- I think some straight communication would have solved the problem. He gave useful answers, and was polite when people were polite to him......I'm not saying that you were rude, necessarily, but that people are often more terse than need be.
@Shokhet I would never mention names. I would simply talk about the behaviour and how to solve it. And maybe some of the destroyers can join in the discussion.
@J.Musser I read it and the post seems pretty good. I did star it, I like how people are taking charge this beta needs leadership.
