Q: What happened to CiteSeerX? Is there a way to fix those links?

Martin SleziakBoth on this site and networkwide there are many links to CiteSeerX. it seems that those links no longer work - at least the ones that I checked. Is there some official announcement explaining what happened to the site and whether it is definitively discontinued? Do you happen to know whether th...

A: What happened to CiteSeerX? Is there a way to fix those links?

hardmathI sent an email to CiterSeer$^X$ using the form on their contact page, and I'll advise of any response I get: I'm a user at Math.StackExchange.com involved in maintaining links and triaging reports of breaks. Recently a large number of URL's in our posts that match citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdo...

> Update: I had not received a response from my query to CiteSeer$^X$, so (gasp!) I picked up the phone and spoke to someone at Penn State who is working on the problem. He was optimistic that the link redirection will be fixed, maybe as early as tomorrow. At any rate they are aware that with the reorganization of links and identifiers, much was broken.

Arnaud Le BlancThey broke ~17,000 links on Wikipedia with this change. Someone there has found how to convert old CiteSeerX URLs to the new format: I found the jackpot, of sorts. A data dump that relates the old CiteSeerX ID to the SHA1. https://archive.org/download/citeseerx-csx_citegraph.2017-03-31/citeseerx...

Calvin KhorAbout 3 weeks ago, I opened an issue in the Github page of CiteSeerX. On the 20th of January, I got the following response from shauryr (Sorry I didn't check earlier, been busy!) We are aware of this issue. We are working on a redirection service, which will make the old links work. The update w...

(i note it is past the week after I got the response, but I still hope the update will arrive) — Calvin Khor yesterday
@Glorfindel I just wanted to check whether you are aware of the above information about CiteSeerX.
I am not sure whether this might influence your script in some way.
Let us hope that they will made the redirect as promised - and so the broken links start work at some point.
I am not sure what is the better option - whether to wait for the redirect or to replace the link with a Wayback Machine snapshot, if there is one.
In my question on Mathematics Meta I have mentioned:
> SEDE returns 5 posts on MathOverflow and 2 posts on Mathematics. (Some of those results are false positives.)
I think at least one on MO is from your script.

@MartinSleziak thanks, I wasn't aware. I hope they'll fix the redirect soon, that means I don't need to change anything to my script :)
