This has been annoying my in all the chat rooms for quite some time now. How can I "go to" a starred comment? The links are listed in the right margin. If I click one, I get to see that comment. BUT NOT IN THE CHATROOM I LOGGED IN. Take amWhy's comment on the top for example. If I click it, a new tab of my browser opens up with that comment clearly visible.

But I cannot do anything in that tab! There is only a link "Join this chatroom". But fer crying out loud I already am in that chatroom!

Is there a way to use that link so that clicking it scrolls me to it in the current tab?

More often than not I would like to see the preceding discussion. When the message is a couple of days old, finding it in this tab is a pain.
It is true that it is opened in a different tab. But I don't think it's true that you cannot do anything there.
You have all typical options you get with messages in the transcript (namely reply and view history).
And also the new tab opens with that message and you can see the transcript before and after that message.
I am no sure which way of reading past messages in the room is more comfortable, but looking at the transcript does not seem to me worse than looking at message which I still see while logged in in the chatroom.
@JyrkiLahtonen @JyrkiLahtonen I responded here rather than in the other room.
This is basically about using chat, so it might be off-topic in that room.
And it's quite possible that I might have misunderstood what you are looking for.

One thing which cannot be done from transcript is flagging a message. But old message cannot be flagged anyway, even if you get to them in the chatroom via "load older messages".
At least that's what I gather from comments on some meta posts such as: How can messages in a chat transcript be flagged?, Disable flagging on old chat messages.

Thanks @Martin. I need to try things out. Occasionally I might want to reply to a starred message, or one preceding/following it.
Well, you can reply from transcript.
So as far as replying goes, the difference between the room and the transcript isn't that substantical..
Feel free to use this room for testing - after all, we have discussed this here.
