A: Why a question without showing any work is getting upvoted?

Jyrki LahtonenI have other reasons not to upvote that question, but I would not downvote or vote to close it either. The official reason for closing many a question is "off-topic -> missing context". Some users mistakenly equate "missing context" with "missing work/effort shown". The linked question gives co...

> It makes me angry, when a user who has earned their rep doing trigonometry and (pre)calculus suddenly feels qualified to judge that this question on, say, elliptic curves, "does not show any effort". IMO ideally anyone casting a "no effort" -close vote should be able to solve the problem themself. I am aware that the policy I suggested may place too
@JyrkiLahtonen There was a recent question on meta which reminded me of the above post yours. I mean this question: Restrict close votes to users with proven expertise?
I wanted just mention it to you, in case you'd like to chime in.
And since I pinged you, I will mention that I quote your comment in my recent post: Would a chatroom for new users be feasible?
A possibility that appeals to me would be to move "tutoring" to chatrooms, and keep the Q&A are well organized. As another veteran user put it "Confused newbies are confused in their own unique ways". There is nothing of permanent value in storing the cure to each and every individual confusion. — Jyrki - No Shog9 - No SE Dec 7 '19 at 8:38
I am aware that the comment and my question are not about exactly the same thing. (Discussing mathematics and "tutoring" in chat is not the same as a room for newbies helping them with their first post.)
But still, they are related and your comment was part of the motivation why I posted that question.

@MartinSleziak By the way, this is not the first time you post a link to that old post of mine. Are you trying to tell me something? Shaking your head in disbelief how far that is from some of my recent views? Anyway, I might even read this to be a sign that you like that idea :-)
@JyrkiLahtonen I was considering linking to your post in a comment to the question: "Restrict close votes to users with proven expertise?"
So now that you pointed out that you changed your views since making the post, it is probably better that I won't do so.
Re: I might even read this to be a sign that you like that idea.
I tend to cast close votes on questions which I understand and i would be more-or-less be able to solve them.
In any case, my approach to close votes does not matter that much since my contribution in closing and close vote reviews is typically small.
When I see a post in a close votes review, I usually check whether it can be improved and edit tags, title, MathJax if needed. And I also try to find whether there are some duplicates.
That means that I typically spend several minutes with one post. For that reason, I do not review/close many posts.
