1:30 AM
Now my wife is playing too ;)

Hello! What game you talking about?

Return of the Obra Dinn!

your game?

Oh no! A game I bought on the PS4.

2:02 AM
hiii

Hello!

How goes it, Vaillancourt?

Going fine!

'Epic

I managed to correctly create a network cable today ;P

2:10 AM
I hate when windows installs something like Skype without asking me about it...

lol noice
oop-

@0x00004 Oh, yeah. Well you need to communicate with people, don't you?
:/

Windows updates all the time without permission
Even if you set a data limit, Windows will simply lie and download the update anyways, then not tell you how much data it used

Yes; there is a way to delay this, for a time. But it'll end up doing it anyway.

2:18 AM
I totally understand Microsoft for doing something like that. And yeah, it annoys me too.

What do you think about Stadia?

seems like it would require fast internet, so not for me

its not the first cloud gaming service?

but still

I'm sure it has been done before.
Like the PS Now
?
I tried PS Now, with the PS4 plugged in with a cable, on a 30/10 mbit connection. Not fast enough.

2:30 AM
then mine would definitely not work for it

If you use your phone with the 5G, that might be different.

yeah, but i don't even think there is a town in my state with 5G, so why would i get 5G phone...

I don't know.
You'll get a 5G phone for when 5G is available :P

ye... i guess that'll happen when i turn 30, lol
you can only get 4G in-town around here

6G will be available by then :P

2:35 AM
yep..

Yeah, ok; they put highend stuff where there is enough people to pay for it...

mhm. i mean, our capital has better connections, obviously, but most areas have pretty low speeds
assuming all of these statistics are right, our stats average is 9mit, half of the nation average (and i usually only get 1-3 mbit)

I remember reading about that in 2009 maybe that soon we not going to need hardware to play videogames

i guess internet service providers would have to catch up.

2:44 AM
@TheMattbat999 They don't make money with you, why would they do that?
We have the same kind of issue here.
I mean... in remote areas...

@Vaillancourt true, true, but the service kinda needs to be there before people are willing to fork over big bucks
so it's a bad loop

Yep.
@0x00004 Yeah, the bandwidth is still the bottlneck..
Ok, I'm off to bed folks, good night :)

good night

Good night! Hopefully I will have more juicy details about the game soon.

how is it going?

2:47 AM
the game? just wonderful

good to hear =)

hoping to release early next year, if all goes well :}

6 hours later…
8:33 AM
Hello everyone. What do you currently use to version/share big binary files(game assets) >1GB ?
I currently use Git for the source code and was thinking about Git LFS.
Other ideas are using dropbox or some open-source laternative (syncthing, seafile...)
I heard Perforce is industry standard for that but I'm not too convinced about it and I still want to use Git for all my source code.

user92578
SVN is also used for asset version control

user92578
I think Git LFS might be a good choice if your source code is already in Git, this way you wouldn't have to separate the repositories

9:02 AM
Doesn't SVN slow down like git when repository gets large?
I used svn in the past before switching to git

user92578
I don't think so, there's no "local" repository with SVN like Git has

10:23 AM
Thanks a lot. I think I will try Git LFS and if that won't work I'll think of something else

5 hours later…
3:19 PM
I think the "long times" experienced when using SVN is caused by "a lot of revisions" rather than large binary files.

Git LFS is a weird hack. Seems to work though.

4:13 PM
@Vaillancourt Out of curiosity, how much is "a lot of revisions"?

@Pikalek we have 25k+; some operations take time.
Maybe it has to do with for how long you had your checkout. e.g. if you do a fresh checkout and the cache is not yet full of crap, maybe it will be a bit faster.
It's not a showstopper, though.

2 hours later…
6:43 PM
hi

Hello

How are ya?

Pretty well. :) Just chasing small bugs at the moment.
Yourself?

I am doing alright. Trying to come up with a questline for the Rat King ;]

7:14 PM
Rat kings are creepy. :o

LOL, but there shall be one in my game, hiding out in the flooded, abandoned village of Green Swamp
also gives the player an opportunity to pacify common rats

Now I'm just thinking of the rat warrior from that zodiac battle anime... static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/…
