I like how that recruitment question was closed in 2 minutes and nuked in 4, very impressive moderation speed :)

Hi folks
Hi @Almo
Hopping back in here so that I can talk about my game project

@ShotgunNinja HI!
welcome back man

Good to be back

hope things are well with you :)

I feel like I finally have the time and support I need to get a game project off the ground

good deal :)
I have one I want to make, a small phone game (even smaller than Cognizer) but I just have one more track to finish my EP so I'm going to do that first :)

5:53 PM
@Almo things are complicated and messy, especially since my grandma passed away and US politics are what they are, but I'm finally back on Adderall after 7 years and I have more energy than I know what to do with

:(
Glad the adderall is helping :)

I'm bringing back the haunted house simulator idea I had years ago, and building out a prototype of the system design to try and get a MVP
Gonna probably just use a $20 low-poly people pack for now
3D modeling, art, and animation are not my strong suit

sounds like a smart move on the people pack

I've got a GDD on Google Drive if you want to take a look, though it's pretty incomplete. I have most of the mood and mechanics designed at least partway.

I wouldn't mind taking a look. if you want it private just send on discord

5:58 PM
Think Sims when it comes to building and arranging the house, Rollercoaster Tycoon for running it, and a little bit of PvZ/TF2 aesthetics mixed in
Will do

neat :)

So im running into a small problem... Im using unitys adressables and their async. loading. I spawn in two ui objects after each other... async. ( Child + Parent ). The parent contains a script that should color the child based on some conditions, it runs at start... well long story, it does not work because the child is not existent yet ( Async). I could let it run in the update loop, but i guess thats not that clean. Any other ideas ?

@genaray let it run in whatever code loads the child?
child gets loaded, requests colour from parent

Well, that was my next idea... but, the parent does not know about its childs at the moment it gets loaded and, as far as i know, theres no way to receive some sort of "ChildAdded" callback

Reference it the other way around too? A child knows when it gets added after all?

8:27 PM
That could work... im still confused by the ui controll. There people praising mvc patterns, other ones praise self controlled ui elements :/ Thought it would be better to let the parent controll such stuff

The issue i see is that you are mixing two different concerns here. You could keep the parent in full control IF you can guarantee loading of children happens before the parent for example
So your other idea of doing it in the update loop would be a valid solution as well
The question is: where does it fit your architecture best

Ah ^^ thanks... what do you think about self controlled ui ? A small example, an inventory : Theres an inventory controller that simply spawns some prefabs, and the prefabs itself have components attached to load in the actuall item data into textfields, images... The controller itself only spawns in the prefabs, but never sets their data. Never tried it myself, but it sounds more flexible than the common mvc

i think it makes sense to delay loading of data wherever possible to as briefly before it is needed as you can. so this sounds like a smart and neat way

8:43 PM
Thanks :) Well than im probably give it a try with one of my screens...

lookin forward to hearing from your experiences!!!
