2:02 PM
yeah

(duh)
baw, not the correct one (youtube.com/watch?v=xuxO6CZptck !)

LOLZ! that is hilarious

Jon
lmao

same :D

now, to build that scraper so I can get all of the posts from indiedb
and archive them in the new forum

2:16 PM
:P

Jon
@AlexM. I wrote a few scrapers before :)

scrapers helped my professional self get a boost years ago

@AlexM. based on your past descriptions of the devs there I would recommend you try connecting directly to the database with the password: Password

@ToddersLegrande lol
that might work

Jon
LOL, I remember gaining access to a site by trying that once
Gnomon tutorials website -- I tried a random user/pass and got in.. i was like, wtf??

2:24 PM
scrapers were my first type of programs as soon as I got some rep
I didn't start programming though
I got some random thing, posting answers on a Q&A site, first
obviously, users were all fake
and all questions were like "how much gb in iphone 8gb"
and yes, I am serious, all of them were about iPhones

Jon
lol.

can't remember the site's name
but it must still be alive

Jon
What was that movie with Tom Hanks, where he was castaway on an island?

when employers were switched on the same job, the new one wanted to pay less
and I sent him my first denial email
those were the days

@Jon Cast Away
great movie

2:28 PM
@ToddersLegrande think they're protected against sql injections?

2:51 PM
So more sock puppet crap last night eh?

Jon
heh
-500 thats gotta hurt.

That was a bounty I made.
I think my rep will survive :p

Jon
yeah, most likely.

Just another "get someone to voting privileges" bounty.
Makes less work for me overall. :)

wow man

Jon
3:00 PM
mom w9u

It helps questions get closed faster that are bad, and questions that are wrongfully closed re-opened faster.

Jon
but..
but.. thats cheating.

user4704
@Byte56 Yeah, sockpuppet dude looks like he's back, but he doesn't have established accounts to farm rep.

user4704
I've noticed a lot of suspicious new user activity.

user4704
and some questions that got mysteriously nuked from orbit

user4704

user4704
I remember the user's original question; I edited it heavily and then answered it. Now I can't find any record of it ever existing.

@AlexM. We can only hope... or not hope depending on your goal :P
hmmm

Yeah, I saw that he said it was deleted. I'm thinking it's a sock puppet account with a decent-ish question.

I apparently replied to the wrong message
Sorry @Byte56

@Jon Reward an existing answer is a legitimate reason to give rep
I like that answer.

Jon
3:10 PM
whats this?

If I couldn't find an answer I liked on someone that was close, I wouldn't give them a bounty.

Jon
ohh the bounty, yeah i was just teasing :)

@JoshPetrie Perhaps the community managers for overzealous.

user4704
Oh well. It wasn't a great question even after my edits.

3:37 PM
a misc model by my 3D artist - he makes random models of things while performing tasks
couldn't be happier <3

@PythonInProgress all you need is pygame its probably a folder that for some reason doesnt get downloaded got to the rec folder and make a empty folder called user then run the game again it should work!

programming nice interface gadgets on tablets can be really tricky

3:53 PM
whats an interface gadget?

a widget I think

Ah so its kind of like a doodad?

yeah
this one is for showing more cards than fit in it
so you can scroll around
and I'm currently making it so you can drag one off it
that's turning out to be quite tricky to make look nice
like Apple kind of nice
it's the gameplay programmer in me :)

@Almo blame the art assets

hahah :)
it's all programmer art for now

3:55 PM
Apple kind of nice is now Android kind of nice

"programmer art" is really a funny concept, actually
they invented it, so it's still apple
android just copied
same for windows; they always playin catchup
oop lunch time
time for Tichu :)

decent trolling
5/10

Yeah.... can't tell if serious
You had me until "same for windows"

4:40 PM
hi friends
I have some question regarding some game concept
any body free to talk with me
?

Jon
4:52 PM
Yes.

I am working with andengine
I need more detail on that one

Jon
One way you could do it, is to set "Waypoints'
ordered waypoints.
And then just make the sprites follow the way points that you setup
you can play with forward/reverse
thats how i would do it anyways.

path contains more curves so how to set waypoint for those points

Jon
you would need to determine how many you need to make a nice curve
I would guess at least 12

to move ball I have to use move modifier, so there are many move modifier I have to use
you aware with andengine or not?

Jon
5:03 PM
I am aware of it yes

then it it good for me
one option I have to use path modifier

howdy folks

so how to move ball on those curves?

Jon
with the power of vectors
direction = Normalize(waypoint2 - waypoint1)
if you don't use enough waypoints, your movement will be choppy
Use a lot.

You could also do smoothing or curve fitting...

Jon
5:08 PM
store your "waypoints" as a collection of Points

first I have to create more way points
as per your suggestion

Jon
but ordered

so for each waypoint I need move modifier

Jon
so linked list is bad.. use array

so it become lengthy to manage all these modifiers

Jon
5:10 PM
move modifier?

I need to establish grid structure or not?
to decide way points

Jon
i don't think a grid structure is what you would want to use for this particular game (zuma clone)

ok
so how to create waypoints?

Jon
I'm just suggesting a way to do it :)
The best thing you could do is create some sort of editor to place waypoints easily.

because without using grid how can I know about points

Jon
5:13 PM
or something that converts an image into waypoints

so manually I place waypoint sprite on screen

Jon
how are you designing the levels?

and set visible false for each of these sprite

Jon
Yes, that is one way. create an editor where you place sprites.. then record their (x,y) positions and save it as a level

I am using flash for designing level
on actual game I have to put those sprite or not?

Jon
5:14 PM
no
debug view only

or I need to use only coordinate
ok I understand

Jon
You are basically creating a path.. and telling your sprites, follow that path

for each ball on screen I have to register its modifier which will move to its next point
after reaching at that point I have to move ahead with new modifier to new point

Jon
you will have an array of Points.

am I doing right?

Jon
5:16 PM
each ball will store its position, int = 0
some can share the same current waypoint
they will always be looking to go towards a waypoint.
Its gonna take a lot of coding to get this going hope you got time.

yes I have to do that task
because I got challenge from the company

Jon
ok, well you owe me 100$ in consultation fees

I am working with andengine from long time but I don't able to consider this concept so I have to ask
after wining I don't able to get any money benefit
this is for the confidense
:)
I have to do a lot of calculation for this
for each modifier I have to do time calculation
so ball move smoothly on screen
or path

Jon
yes
just give it a speed
Get the direction vector, and multiply it by your speed variable
should keep it constant.

what do you mean by direction vector?

5:23 PM
(1,0)
(0,1)

Jon
direction = Normalize(waypoint2 - waypoint1)

ok
and use of normalize
because I thing I have to calculate distance

Jon
don't worry about distance
just time, direction and speed

now you jumble up my concepts
which thing you consider as direction
?

5:25 PM
and time and speed I thing both are the same

Rough but works
yay me.

Jon
Vector2 direction = Normalize(waypoint2 - waypoint1)
Position = direction * speed * elapsedtime;

in andengine this normalization work?

Jon
that will keep your speed at what you set it at.

and I got any direction?

Jon
5:27 PM
If it doesn't you can write your own
This is basic vector math
Your direction is VectorB - VectorA
YOu normalize it, so it is of length 1 max
it will keep the ratio, so you are still pointing in the same direction.

what is the use of direction in this concept?
because I already using move modifier to move ball

Jon
direction = DesiredPosition - CurrentPosition

and elapsedTime?

Jon
your delta time
the time that has expired since your last update
this ensures that you have a constant speed regardless of cpu

ok
Position = direction * speed * elapsedtime;
so you said this
I have already next waypoint position in my hand
so what is the use of this position
?

Jon
5:32 PM
Position = (currentposition - desiredposition).Normalize() * speed * elapsedtime;
expanding on that. this would be your formula.

sorry for my lots of questions

Jon
Go code, you will see.

but my sole purpose is to get some knowledge
I need some break so I meet you after half an hour
you chat with me further
?

Jon
Yeah, i'm always on this. at an appt right now.
lol

thanks sir

5:59 PM
I've switched the focus of my blog a bit
I barely have time for long (multipart) whole dev articles
I'll just stick to short, one-part articles about specific topics
