12:03 AM
@dave is this line invalid ? ` if([i,j] in path)`

yeh

is there anyway to check such a thing?

it has to be :

if(i in path){
if(j in path[i]){

}
}

that's a bit different
since path is an array of pairs

no cos it holds 1 x for every y with the same x
less data held
same as sdata
wait hang on
what u mean path
i dont use a path array ?
do u mean data?

12:07 AM
check again
there is a path array

link?

it was one of the changes I made long ago
how do you think I'm writing the path down there?

displaying neighbour
i dont remember seeing any array called path
mind u i got 3 fiddles open so ive lost track of which was yours and which ones mine xD

don't worry,
you don't have a link to what I'm currently working on!

shall i just wait for you're master piece ;)

12:30 AM
@Gajet having any problems?

I had
finished just right now
it was with "Math.abs"
which I wrote "math.abs"
now it starts from multiple startpoints and finds the nearest target to it.
though it (only might) fail in some certain complex situation, but it will always work good enough.
I'm going to sleep right now, it's 5AM here.
goodnight

good night
ill take a look at this
whats this hi hi hi table

is there really such a thing?
noooooo
I forgot to update before closing that tab
thanx to chrome everything is restored!
:D

ah lol
whats the colours represent

black means not walkable.

12:40 AM
the colour'd squares don't seem to follow any logical path

white means walkable but not in path
purple means start point
cyan means end point
and other colors represent the path selected

oh i see
so what made it pick the top purple n not the bottom
they look same in terms of distance
wait move the bottom purple one square closer see what happens

you can play with that, until you get a grasp on how A* work
this time really good night

ok :P good night im sure ill have questions tomorrow :D
thanks for the help

1 hour later…
1:53 AM
Hola

2:08 AM
Does exclusive profile data include inlined function execution?

over my head there

i'm guessing that's probably compiler (etc) dependent...
if so, i'll narrow my scope -- i'm using gcc and valgrind --tool=callgrind
maybe those will help provide better search terms...
not so much...

4 hours later…
6:38 AM
Perlin Noise Function Complete :D
With smoothing :-)
All I have to do now I find out a way to implement the code into procedural generation for tiles :D

You should really look at the accidental noise library like I suggested. Its modular approach is pretty awesome.

I'll take a look, but I don't think I'll need it :)

At least it'll give you some ideas how to use the noise. :)

For sure :D
Camera has been implemented
and I redid tiles lol :P
The others were too small... and the only randomness going on right now, is the small patches of grass and dirt you see :)
All determined during runtime :D

Ever seen my game?

6:50 AM
Legeria?

:D Yeah, I have. Last Time I played, I was a robot, jumping around and shooting stuff with my awesome laserz(:D)

Hehe
Just got the basics for networked controls added. It's lovely. It's nice to get some progress again.
Anyways, heading to bed. waves

:( Okay. GoodNight :D

7:37 AM
WOOT! Random Land Generation done :D
Screen Shots of Two Builds in just a second :)

8:00 AM
Next build:
New one :D
GoodNight >_>
Chat is dead D;

6 hours later…
2:19 PM
hello
can anyone log in to openfeint in their android apps?
or is it just my phone derping?

hi, what?

like...I am developing this app with openfeint capabilities
and from one day to the other it wont log in

I think you should ask in some forum, I've no idea what that openfeint is
Maybe it's a good idea to contact their tech support

2:51 PM
Anyone wanna help me on a problem with my code?

well post it and maybe we can

yea wait. just seeing if someone was willing to help
well first i made some modifications to this tutorial
causing the bucket to move vertically and then I wanted to add velocity to the raindrops
I think I added the code correctly on my code
private void spawnRaindrop() {
//deleted
raindrop.yVelocity = (float) (Math.random() * ( Max - Min ));
//deleted
and now the raindrops won't appear
heres my code w/o the comments
@Override
public void create() {

batch = new SpriteBatch();
raindrops = new Array<Rectangle>();
spawnRaindrop();
}

private void spawnRaindrop() {
com.badlogic.drop.Rectangle raindrop = new Rectangle();
raindrop.x = MathUtils.random(0, 800 - 48);
raindrop.y = 480;
raindrop.yVelocity = (float) (Math.random() * ( Max - Min ));
raindrop.width = 48;
raindrop.height = 48;
raindrops.add(raindrop);
lastDropTime = TimeUtils.nanoTime();}

@Override
public void render() {

if (TimeUtils.nanoTime() - lastDropTime > 90000000)

Does this make at least a bit of sense: Personal Interdimensional Portal Border Override Yielder
For a device that allows you to generate portals and travel between dimensions? :P

4:33 PM
o-o"
PIPBOY?

Haha, Isnt a Pipboy the wrist thingy from Fallout?

Lol, Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device

"Personal Interdimensional Portal Builder Of Yore"

xD
Does anyone know what I should look into for 2D Dynamic Lighting

@BluFire Nothing sticks out from the code pasted as to why they would not show up assuming you are setting what that rectangle looks like some where still and calling draw on it some how (not sure if they are internal parts) but the updates to the position and such all look good.
@CodeAssasssin Maybe articles entitled 2D Dynamic Lighting

4:40 PM
:/
I thought someone might have a specific article they recommend for that certain topic.

Hehe, Its possible, but that is not me as of yet. I tend to shy away from Rendering :)

@James That's exactly what it is. :P Trying to work in the reference.
Hoping to add a bunch of references from a bunch of things.
@CodeAssasssin What type of lighting are you looking for? The type of lighting in my lighting demo caters to tilebased games, but doesn't feature directional lights.

I guess it would be called, Tile Based Lighting :o

@TreDubZedd I like it. :P
@CodeAssasssin Dunno if you've seen the lighting demo of mine, but that's the latest pixelshader accelerated approach I've made.
Though I think it may be a bit of overkill for what you need.

overkill D:

4:52 PM
Yeah, the whole point of it is resistance based lighting spread. So tiles can block some or all of each individual color component.

Okay, what do you suggest I use? o:

I dunno. My first approach was simply making a separate layer, clear it to whatever ambient light I needed, and then additively drawing light sources with a brush like texture.
Worked perfectly, and was very fast.
That's the lighting that is in the latest stable
This also allows you to make lights any shape and color you want.

Heh, well maybe I'll leave lighting for another time, and just implement a player class :)
So I can roam around my world :D
Also, for now - even though I want my game to have a fairly realistic look, my game looks to cartoonish >_>
Should I go with my original design for sprites, or just leave the sprites I already have alone o-o?

Just focus on gameplay for now. No point in wasting too much time on sprites.

Ah okay :D

5:11 PM
@James thanks but i fixed the problem. I forgot how, I think i made yVelocity a double

5:27 PM
?

blinking in progress : O_O -> O_o -> O_- -> O_o -> O_O

it seems lot's of people are using these figures nowadays.
@John @Josh also "Josh Josh" seems somehow like "knock knock". I guess people will soon be telling "Josh Josh" jokes!

isnt that winking?

5:35 PM
eh, yes it is.

blinking would be more of

It messed it up
Lol >_>

O.O o.o -.- o.o O.O
well no1 really has their eyes wide open so it would be o.o > -.- > o.o

0.0 having eyes widely open would be this 0_0, O_O is just normal eyes zoomed in!

5:44 PM
What is this, Emotiocons 101?

Its EM 902
:) lol
@William Beginners like you have to start at Emoticons 101

can someone please exchange his works with me?

What works?
Hardly anything I do works.

>_>
@WilliamMindWorXMariager Lies

You're right, I'm lying.

5:47 PM
@WilliamMindWorXMariager that doesn't matter, the only problem is I don't feel like doing anything I'm supposed to do
instead I'll do anything other's are supposed to do!

so by exchanging work it's win-win for both sides

Btw, here's another reference I'm going to work in to my game, lets see if anyone gets it.
An NPC named "Dr. Jaxxon" who wears glasses and is a bit of a geek.

....
o-o"
Is this something before my time lol
Dr.Jackson

5:49 PM
I know neither of them

Stargate
Daniel Jackson, Ph.D., is a fictional character in the Canadian-American military science fiction television series Stargate SG-1, which is about a military team exploring the galaxy via a network of alien transportation devices. Daniel Jackson is first introduced in the 1994 film Stargate, and is played by James Spader. In the ensuing television series the character is played by Michael Shanks. Daniel Jackson is a civilian archeologist and linguist, who works with the Stargate military project and therefore holds no military ranking. After the kidnapping of his wife Sha're in "Children o...

I love Stargate, so I'll probably have plenty of references to the show/movies.

Heh, what is the NPC going to do lol?

5:50 PM
Mission provider, with some Stargate themed missions.

o:
I thought I would add NPC's in my game, but then nah... I dont think Tower Defenses need NPC's...

He's a friendly guy in the show, so he'll likely be an introductory NPC of sorts, perhaps the guy that'll guide you through a bunch of tutorials.
Like fetch his glasses and get him a new box of tissues.

My introductory tutorial will be some text in a faded gray box

He has a bunch of allergies. :P

@CodeAssasssin your games doesn't seem like TD at all
if I had to say, I would report it as a legeria clone!

5:53 PM
>_>

but a cheap one. :D

Why legeria lol.
totally different aspects to the game

since william is here and your game really looks like it

Mine is just centered around defending yourself and building, as well as upgrading your tech
>_>

Sounds like my game.

5:54 PM
I've seen no building in recent screenshots

You cheap rip off you!

Dude
I JUST STARTED 3 DAYS AGO >_<

:D

5:54 PM
I would have done it by now
do you want me to do a TD just tonight?

And I started like half a year ago.

So I obviously win, you're the ripoff!

Legeria is a 2D freeroaming adventure game, set in a sci-fantasy universe, where you control a droid/drone rummaging around on various planets and in various dimensions, to find stuff to make itself stronger, and please it's uknown masters.

then don't tell me 3 days is not enough for a proper looking TD game,.

5:55 PM
My game is nothing like this

You just copied from my site!

Stop grilling me D:<
@WilliamMindWorXMariager Lol
=-="

then what is you game?

I should really remove that description. It's nothing like the concept anymore. :P

"code assasssin's game" is a 2D freeroaming adventure game, set in a sci-fantasy universe, where you control a droid/drone rummaging around on various planets and in various dimensions, to find stuff to make itself stronger, and please it's uknown masters.

5:56 PM
....
No.

and you didn't even bothered to name it!

Lol, name doesnt matter
at the moment, gameplay does.
Picture yourself in a box

>_>
This box, is surprisingly earth-like

Whoa, just like... Legeria? :D

5:58 PM
.....

:D

There are different maps but
okay lol
Hey

so you say you are working on a TD game?

In any case, your game sounds more like a castle defense or a hero defense kinda game. Not a tower defense.

Castle Crashers lol
?

5:59 PM
are you using any repository right now? may I take a look at your complete code.

Code Confidential >_>
spelling wrong =-=

since I don't feel like doing anything I should, I thought maybe I'll check your code and see if I can improve anything there

I wonder if it's worth compiling the VPL features of my game. I should do some tests when I get that far in my code.

@Gajet I would but I dont have SVN :/\

6:02 PM
you can try emailing, or bitbucket
@WilliamMindWorXMariager would you mind adding a subdomain to your host?
so I'll post updates about the game I'm working on?

I could do that. :)

yay!

@Gajet o: Your working on a game?

at long last someone accepted my request1
@CodeAssasssin I'm working on many different things

Want it to point to a blog or something, or do you want to upload your own site files?

6:05 PM
I really don't know anything about that.

just a blank page with upload/download feature would be more than enough, I guess

@CodeAssasssin I'm working on many project right now.

@Gajet Sounds cool :D

6:05 PM
two of them are games, and two other are not
and three of them are just my hobbies.
besides I'm participating in all sorts of online programming contests.
and try to study applied mathematics at university.

@Gajet I dont think I'm good enough to participate in online programming contests yet :/ But Maybe next year I'll be ready

@CodeAssasssin don't worry about that.
only participating will help you improve faster than what you can think of
that's the only reason I'm participating myself
@CodeAssasssin are you going to send your code to me or not?

Shy =-=

too sad, I'm not there behind you,
or I'll smash (if this word is hard enough) you in your head!

6:09 PM
either it's something private, or show it to as many people you can find.
there are too many ideas other people have about a good code.
the more you here, the more you can improve.
and never feel shy.
I've seen worst of codes.
@CodeAssasssin now are you going to send your code to me or not?

@Gajet =-=" I will. It's all in C# using XNA

good.
now you are being reasonable!

but I though you loved C++

I did. but for Game Development, gave me a hard time :/\
C# is easier lol

6:13 PM
@Gajet, I just contacted my webhost, and they won't let me add additional FTP accounts to my site.
I thought they would, so I can't give you the subdomain. Sorry kiddo.

:(

Whats a Git repository
and whats a mercurial o-o"?

Something you should have

Either of those :)

6:16 PM
It's version control. :)

A system for preserving old versions and files

Oh
eh I'm just going to send it the gui for bit-bucket is to complicated o-o

:D

@Gajet I sent it

yeah I got it
but what's with "The Doctor"?

6:26 PM
Doctor Who
LOL
Huge fan actually :D

and always send project file with your code!

o-o" Lol. Eh sorry about that >_>

how much should I w8 before you send project file?

or am I supposed to create it myself?

6:32 PM
Ill send it to u
Sent

I'm checking
what's with air tile type?
really?

sln?

Sln?
O_O?

you had to attach the file with csproj extension.

6:34 PM
o-o
>_>

:d

Sent :/

why is your tile array 3d?

Oh I wanted to implement depth but... That didn't work out to good.
Kinda really unnecessary

I was thinking about that too.
seems I still can't open the project :(

6:37 PM
..

let's try something else
click on clear button on solution options.

Clear?

then compress the whole solution file and send that
maybe clean.
there should be "build" "rebuild" and "clean"

I only see Build Rebuild and Publish o-o

w8 a sec
it seems C# doesn't have clean button.

6:43 PM
lol >_>

well just compress anything except "bin" and "obj" folders
that should do the same thing

Sent lol

:D

works o-o"
Lol
btw WASD to move camera
Z and X to zoom in and out

yeah it works now
seems nice
but I'm not sure if I can see any TD related code yet.
@CodeAssasssin it's really good
but still it's much more like legeria than a TD.
for example what I have about a TD in mind means a top-down view.

6:56 PM
:D

while your code is generating a side view.
@CodeAssasssin now you've done it,

I'm thinking about a TD game, and I can't help myself not doing it.
how much free time do you have?
from now till 8 hours later?
