11:02 PM
Thanks man, already spent a whole $0.30

you're welcome

11:28 PM
My math is bad, which one handles the x component? Sin or Cos?
Google is down, I swear!
@thedaian probably broke it.

for a triangle?
i think cosine

Uhm... What I want to do is replace the following:
if ((angle > MathHelper.PiOver2 && angle <= MathHelper.Pi) || (angle < -MathHelper.PiOver2 && angle > -MathHelper.Pi))
With something more pretty.
Yeah, it was Cos.
Thanks <3

oscar had a hold on arthur
Sin = O / H
Cos = A / H
Tan = O / A
or something like that

I just remember Tan = Sin/Cos = O/A

soh cah toa.

11:34 PM
I've never received any teaching on Sin Cos Tan.

do they not teach trig in denmark

I forgot all of mine

I'm a math major; I think my uni would ask for the degree back if I forgot.

They teach it, but later than most places.

I just don't use it often enough

11:36 PM
He said Wikipedia was down :p

i actually came up with/know an extremely dirty mnemonic to remember soh cah toa

We have 9 years of elementary school, then 2-3 years of something higher than elementary but below uni, and then 3, 5 or 8 years of uni.

No trig in elementary besides a² + b² = c²

lol, yeah, there's an XKCD for everything, isn't there?

11:38 PM
@Noctrine very, very true

Yeah, it's completely true though. I find myself searching for things I know that I know.

i mostly do that to make sure i'm right before saying something

@thedaian Really?
Ohh common, that was a good one

Is it normal to have frame animation calculation in the Draw logic? Or do I do it in Update logic?

yeah. the times i don't i end up forgetting about cheese curds in poutine

11:42 PM
@MindWorX I do all of my frame steps in the Update

yeah, i think i do frame animation in update, too

Alright.
I should create a sprite class.
Or rather, I have to create a sprite class now.

I do my state changes in update, but the draw step handles figuring out the frame coordinates.

</self promotion>

i pre-calculate frame coordinates....

11:43 PM
oops, that looks useful
I just rolled my own silly sprite xml definition

You make all sorts of stuff @John. I do too, but I never get far enough for it to be released.
Though I really should somehow get that C# __fastcall hack out somewhere, since I've scoured google for ages never finding anything similar.

doesn't xna have a sprite class?

yeah... I want to really flesh the sprite library out a little more. Right now it's fairly simplistic with no support for bones and stuff
@thedaian I guess it depends on your definition of a "Sprite"

Bones? You mean like, multiple sprites connected at a joint?

11:45 PM
never used xna, so most of my knowledge is third hand

Yeah, I was thinking of doing something similar.

Well... XNA has Textures, and you can draw those textures. I consider a sprite to be a collection of Textures that make up a Game Element
Complete with animation information

Orientation?

i guess it doesn't have a built in sprite class
which is probably good, considering

You don't just rotate the texture?

11:48 PM
For you @MindWorX, Orientation would be Left or Right

Ah

Well... sometimes you can't
Like in my game
and @MindWorX, if you look at the library and like what it's trying to do, I'd totally add you as a collaborator if you wanted

I'm checking out in a few seconds. :)
SVN checking out you know
Not leaving checking out.
That's a silly term.

well, i am leaving checking out

The Sprite Library is actually really really small and straight forward. The Sprite Maker on the other hand, that is quite confusing and is not very flexible right now

11:50 PM
but i'll be back in like, 10 minutes when i get home

I'm sure @Ohio coined it.

well, it comes from checking a book out at a library, not checking yourself out a hotel

I know, but it's still @Ohio's fault.

I can agree to that.

it comes from me

11:51 PM
What was I telling you guys a few moments ago?
:p

I don't remember a few moments back.

Man, I almost forgot how tiny the Sprite Lib was
Like half of the code is to parse the XML

Hey, anyone know what algorithm to use to generate a good looking random terrain?

2D or 3D?

11:56 PM
2D Heightmap that will create a 3d terrain.

@JohnMcDonald Ever used the XML serializer? It's lovely.

@MindWorX no, but would it actually work in this situation?
brb

@JohnMcDonald I'm sure it would, it supports a ton of things.

11:57 PM
the voronoi-based biome generation is useful for a lot of things actually, like defining political boundaries etc.

Looks interesting.

@John, Here's my Settings class: pastebin.com/9mVPejNE
