Why WB releasing The Curse of La Llorona so near to teh release of Shazam O.o
@Kepotx hey o/

hello folks

@AnkitSharma because WB doesn't know how to market DC?

@Memor-X yeah Shazam is doing good and going to surpass films like Ant-Man and Wolverine but Endgame is coming soon nd this is the time to get as much money as possible then why to give a conjuring universe film as competition O.o

@AnkitSharma get you if they come out with another smash hit idea from DC, they'll release it at the same time as Star Wars

Shazam already have bad placing between two MCU films and not taking out smnall money by a horror film not a great idea

Q: How could the Night King break the Wall but was not able to do that before?

Q: What is the original meaning of "No bounce, no play"?

Rand al'ThorThe phrase "no bounce, no play" comes from a Stephen King novel Dreamcatcher. Questions about the origin and meaning of this phrase have floated around the web on sites such as Reddit and Yahoo Answers, but without any really convincing answers beyond guesswork and supposition. I'm confident that...

Q: What is the ending music used on the Heart Guy?

HugMysterThe Australian series shown on the Drama channel as "the Heart Guy" (originally "Doctor, Doctor") uses a great piece of music. I believe that in the UK it is different from the original. Does anyone know what it is please, or was it written especially for the series?

3:53 PM
@Randal'Thor That's appreciated, but the question is a little unclear. You say "within the setting of the novel". But within the setting of the novel it's just a random throaway line written on the wall at Tracker Bros. next to the picture of Tina Jean Schlossinger's p---y, I'd suppose. It's not entirely clear what significance beyond that you're looking for there.
I guess it's just common for King to impose sublime significance to rather common everyday things, which thereby derive their significance simply by association with the actual context. But that's then also the amount of their significance itself. It's thus significant for its own sake, in this case because it's a simple thing connected to an important event in their youth.
But...without having read the novel, it's also hard for you to clarify what you're looking for beyond someone just giving an account of the chapter in which it appears and how it's used throughout the rest of the story.

@NapoleonWilson Hmm. Have I made a fool of myself by asking about a novel I haven't read?
The phrase does seem to have some sort of significance, surely, as evidenced not only by you frequently quoting it but also by others on the web asking about its meaning.

@Randal'Thor I...don't know. Not necessarily. If anything, it might hinder you fleshing out the question a little more, which doesn't mean it's isn't a good question.

Would it be better to ask what the phrase means within and beyond the text of the novel, e.g. if it's become a sort of popular culture meme beyond King's original meaning?

@Randal'Thor In fact my usage is probably quite related to the significance it has in the book and the way King's symbolism works. There's often a very "meme-like" character to the way he imbues these trivial things with quite elaborated contexts.
They have the effect they do because their recontextualization is so odd, similar to how pop-cultural references often work for their own sake by the sole reason of their existence.

Well, if it's used "throughout the rest of the story", then at least it's not as simple as just citing the single passage that Gareth's comment links to.

4:05 PM
But...I'm also struggling to put this crap into words. ;-)

I didn't tag it with either or precisely because I wasn't sure if it comes from a single isolated passage or if it has some deeper significance in the novel.

@Randal'Thor True. But...it's not entirely clear what it is you're looking for there.

Maybe my asking for "the original meaning" makes it sound as if I'm going for just that one passage rather than its significance throughout the novel?

@Randal'Thor That might go into the wrong direction, too. But if it's that what you want to know, sure. The problem largely seems to stem that you're not entirely aware of what kind of significance it might have to begin with.
@Randal'Thor Possibly.

Of course I'm not aware - hence the question ;-)

4:09 PM
I also didn't know it was such huge mystery all across the internet.
@Randal'Thor True, but not having read it makes the question lack a little in the "what have you tried" part.

@GarethRees After discussing with someone who's more familiar with the quote, I've tried to update and clarify the question. The quote seems (if I understand correctly) to have a deeper significance - even in the novel itself, let alone as a meme later - than just one throwaway passage. — Rand al'Thor 1 min ago

Maybe you can go off these Reddit or whatever links and try to flesh out the questions more into that direction? I don't know. Maybe it will be well received and garner useful answers in the way it is.
@Randal'Thor I never said I read the book, though. And in fact...I haven't.

@NapoleonWilson Somewhat counterintuitively, it's actually easier to answer questions about something one hasn't read than to ask them.
@NapoleonWilson Welp, sorry. Fixed.
@NapoleonWilson The problem is that sites like Reddit and Yahoo Answers don't seem to encourage detailed and rigorous answers, so it's hard to get much additional context there. Which is why I asked it on Stack Exchange ;-)

You also seem to go into a new direction with the updated question now, factoring in its reception in the real world.
@Randal'Thor True, though, the answer on Reddit seems to be on the right track, even if it could use some fleshing out.

Yep, factoring in but not focusing on. I'm trying to keep the question firmly tied to the original source, even if it's becoming a little broader.

4:17 PM
I didn't know it was such a huge memetic thing, though.
In that case, I guess the question makes a little more sense when approaching it from that direction.
I'll see what happens with the question and if there's some interesting answers.
> We've gotta save this girl.
> Save this world?
> Not the world, Duds. A girl. We'll save the world some other time.
> Ister Gay?
> Yeah, it's a mystery. We need you to solve it.

> Can you help her? Is there anything you can do?
> Yeah, probably, if I had the time.
> The time?
> All of creation has just been wiped from the sky. Do you know how many lives now never happened? All the people who never lived? Your girlfriend isn't more important than the whole universe.
> *punch*
> She is to me!

Where's that from?

For the next six weeks, could everybody be vigilant in hiding GoT spoilers; dive in if you've already seen an episode & hide it from those of us not in the US, who have to wait to see it on Mondays ;)

Well, sure, we try as usual.
Not the least in order to prevent people freaking out in rude comments, spoiler complaint downvotes, and HNQ rants on main meta. ;-)

At the moment I'm just flicking past the Movies SE tab, trying not to read anything I shouldn't. I'll be watching it in about half an hour, so my panic will be over until next Sunday ;)
In the early days I used to save them all up & box-set at the end of the season, but since about season 4 that's just not been possible.

@Tetsujin Remember that you can ignore the tag and adjust your settings so that you don't see questions with that tag.

Ah - I hadn't considered that - I might just have to keep flicking the tag off & on for a while. Thanks.

Q: How does this phrase illustrate the difficulty of translation

Hamed BaghliHow does the aliens’ statement “There is no time. Many become one,” illustrate the difficulties of translation that Louise is dealing with? What do the world’s governments seem to think it means and what do the aliens really seem to be saying?
