Yes, it's possible that the directors of a primarily American movie who were raised in America had a character that's not from India and therefore wouldn't have Indian currency use the incorrect exchange rate for Indian currency to make a reference that only people who 1. know the exchange rate of Indian rupees to US dollars and 2. bother to do the math in the moment would get to foreshadow the ending of the movie.
