Q: Is it a real life financial institution that appeared in the movie Margin Call?

Yu ZhangIn the movie Margin Call, I am wondering if this unnamed investment bank was real? As it was inspired by a true story.

@NapoleonWilson this Lion King question was quite poplar one and kind of valid too
Realism question working here pretty well from years why so resistance all of sudden

Q: How accurate is the O.J. Simpson trial series?

CharlesSeveral months ago I watched The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and from what I can remember, most of the events in the series seemed accurate to what actually happened, but I'm definitely no expert on the subject.. Are there any aspects of this show that just aren't true? Was th...

Q: Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Spencer J.In one of the movies they show and talk about the murders from the family and actually have real footage in the end. Yet, sites are saying different. Is it true?

Done with my update for answer to @AJ 's answer and now I have official words for necronomicon being part of friday thr 13th universe

That's fast @AnkitSharma

This medium is clearly more limited than the stack exchange website, but I guess I'll give it a try. I am working on trying to show that stoereotypes of Native Americans are still propagated in films today in the 21st century, but I am having difficulty finding a variety of examples beyond a couple typical and older ones. Does anyone know of contemporary examples?

@AnkitSharma What is a deadite?

@NogShine An evil dead-universe monster/demon variant

@JohnJoe We don't have tags about Native American, Indian etc., because we don't entertain questions like those. We have film tags, specific film industry tags to tag properly.
BTW, I didn't DV your question

Q: What are 21st century films that depict Native Americans in a stereotypical way?

John JoeI am working on trying to show that stoereotypes of Native Americans are still propagated in films today in the 21st century, but I am having difficulty finding a variety of examples beyond a couple typical and older ones because of how unfairly underrepresented this issue is in media. There are ...

Yes you don't entertain questions that people desperately struggle to ask
how noble of you

Thank you.

and then even here
as oer your request
you don't provide useful information
as per the community's request*
Even saying that such discussions is "entertaining" is insulting.
I cannot believe stackexchange is that blatently racist

JAD
Primary Meanings of
entertain
1.
v
provide entertainment for
2.
v
take into consideration, have in view

and both interpretations, "we don't consider racial issues" doesn't sound any better.
it sounds like you're actively shutting down people who try and discuss serious problems

JAD
8:06 AM
if they're off-topic to the website, yes.

they're not off topic at all
your site is about films
I'm looking for info about films
couldn't be any more direct

It's not that questions asking about racism are not allowed, it's that asking for a list of films is not allowed on this site

and it's not allowed because it involves discussions such as these
which is why someone said they don't entertain these discussions
makes sense now

No. That is not why.

then explain to me, exactly, how I can get the information I seek from stackexchange
there literally aren't even tags about "Native American" films or actors

8:08 AM
I don't think you can, because that type of question - asking for a list - simply does not fit the Stack Exchange model, no matter what the subject is.

many other stack exchange sites provide users with general information that contain lists of information and arguable points

JAD
@JohnJoe because classifying movies based on race and such doesn't really seem appropriate

@JohnJoe I don't think that there are tags about European actors either.

You're right, it's not appropriate, but that didn't stop Hollywood form making hundreds of race-based films
that's a part of histopry and if you pretend it doesn't exist
that will perpetuate the problem
history*
There is a very reasonable way to discuss race
you only seem to be afraid of it

...please, calm down. Nobody is denying that there are racism problems in films.

JAD
8:10 AM
but if it will make you feel any better, googling "movies about native americans" resulted in the following: imdb.com/list/ls006736250
like we said, Stackexchange is not suited for a biglist format

then how about a small list?
maybe no more than 5?

JAD
just read the top5?

sure if someone can present 5
that would be useful

Sorry, that still won't work, because every answer will be equally valid.

JAD
look at that link I posted

8:11 AM
and why is that bad?

JAD
take the first 5. bam done
@JohnJoe because it doesn't fit the SE format
you want a list of movies, go to a movie database.

so why not expand the stack exchange to give it the flexibility to better serve users by providing this?

JAD
because it's a Q&A site, not a general purpose help-site

14
A: Are list questions off topic?

kiamlalunoQuestions that ask for a list are considered not constructive, as every answer is equally valid. Generally, those questions are infinite, as a new answer could always be added; they also tend to be subjective. As such, those questions should not be asked, basing on what written in the FAQ. Y...

well I asked a question
and it has answers
I see no ethical dilemma with that

JAD
8:13 AM
the questions we entertain (got that word again) must have a verifyable correct answer. else this site would just be a pile of nonsense

The Stack Exchange network has some very clearly defined rules that have been working for years. This is one of them.

That's logically incorrect. Someone could post multiple examples and still be correct.
it's not limited to a pile of nonesense
that's just a false dichotomy
there's plenty of examples of users who make a genuine effort
so why not let them with this?

Look. Arguing about it here is not going to make a difference.

JAD
did you read anything we just said?

that's the problem, bringing up serious issues doesn't make a difference to you
you are part of the problem now

8:15 AM
If you can make a case for allowing list questions, please make it on Movies & TV Meta

JAD
I don't think this is a serious issue

@JohnJoe Whether or not an Internet website allows a certain form of question shouldn't be a serious issue

JAD
additionally, I already provided you with an easily google-able link to IMDb, so I don't really see what there is left to discuss

The fact that you don't think it's a serious issue is part of why it is a serious issue, it is very agreeable by scholars that the media, in all its forms, is part of the issue, and ignoring that only makes you part of the problem. Just as another point, you said automatically equated any mention films featuring an ethnic group with "race-based" films as if to suggest any mere representation of that culture is automatically centered around persecution.

What...
This has nothing to do with race.
3

8:19 AM
the list you provided features a list of mostly non-21st century films featuring ratings, it does not focus on bringing stereotypes to light that have offended people
it has a lot to do with race
members clearly stated they don't want to discuss topics of race
that's part of the problem is shutting down those discussions

This has to do with the fact that list questions are not allowed here.

Which, as pointed out, is partly to do with race, unless everything should be rephrased.

Wait.. where did you get the idea that this is because of the race?

but it seems the more you try to justify it, the worse you come across.

JAD
@JohnJoe topics of only race. This site is about movies, so topics should be on merit of movies, not race.

8:21 AM
The merit of race? The topic was about movies, as stated.
The question is about movies, and it is answerable.

JAD
then stop bringing up race.

What is your opinion guys? Approve or reject ? movies.stackexchange.com/review/suggested-edits/73182

JAD
 indifferent

The reason is removing profanity.

JAD
If your question was about movies with stereotypical white cis-het males in their 30s, it would have been equally off-topic.

8:24 AM
@JAD Umm. whom are you talking to?

JAD
@NogShine o they left

@JAD they are continuing in comments. If you wanna join..

Don't engage.

JAD
kinda typical. They're saying on one side that the offensive stereotypes are still here in movies, but on the other hand need our help finding them

I have started a bounty for rewarding an answer. Should I give it right away or should I let it go for a week and then reward it?

up to you. i'd leave it for a week to give 'em more exposure

JAD
the time I gave a bounty here I left it as long as possible. Hoping the feature would create more upvotes for that answer

@NikhilEshvar depends on why you started it. if you wanted better answers then leave it but if there was an answer that you wanted to reward regardless (maybe because it's far better than the accepted one) then reward it right away

I like the answer (it is accepted). But as others said, perhaps let everyone see the answer though. It could get some exposure... So yeah, I'm gonna try to be patient and award it later....

JAD
you could even refer to that answer in the bounty message to point people explicitly towards that answer

12:33 PM
@NikhilEshvar I prefer to keep it for a time being to give it more exposure
I lost faith in winning this ToW
I might ask another question tomorrow but not sure

Q: Husband & wife twice - coincidence?

spokoI just re-watched Argo (2012) after not having seen it in quite a while. In the meantime, I've watched the series Halt and Catch Fire (2014–17). So I couldn't help noticing that Scoot McNairy and Kerry Bishé play husband & wife in both. I'm not aware of any other connection between this movie and...

3:17 PM
@AJ good, liking the new job
@JohnJoe the answer is that, in the creation of stackoverflow and the stackexchange network in general, the creators wanted to get away from a forum feel and wanted people to get clear, concise answers to real world problems. asking "what are the top 5 x" generally has no 1 true answer, and would spark a lot of debate and long form discussion. these were allowed in the very early days but were found problematic and removed
@JohnJoe each site on the SE network has a different culture and handle things differently, so rules are a bit wish-washy between sites. for example, on movies we are WAY more strict on what we deem trivial questions as compared to our sister site scifi. you realy have to spend time on a site, and particularly it's meta, to really get a feel for how it works. the help center will get you part way there, but there's so much that it jsut can't cover
@JohnJoe i would also add that, as a site, culturally we're not against questions about race, as long as they fit inside the scope of this site.

6:03 PM
@DForck42 wow, long time no see
the last sentence is kind of funny considering the film shows scar murdering mufasa, and his rule implies much in the way of murder and feasting when it shows the wasteland that became of the pride land as well as the whole elephant graveyard. Just the song "cant wait to be king" is really saying he can't wait for his dad to die. Lion King is messed up. I partly think they threw the bugs in there just for the fun of making it as disgusting as possible. — Kai Qing 2 hours ago

@DForck42 being busy is fun? You mean . . . Having a real, non-digital life is fun?
Where are you from, exactly?
I hope it's not Stockholm
@JohnJoe dude, chill out. We just don't want list questions. It's not because they're never good, it's because they're covered elsewhere and we don't want to be copycats
Sheesh.
@Mith your avatar is about gender

@Ankit's avatar might be offensive to slashers
@Mithrandir yuck, I'm not hungry

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ ...what
