@MattD Everyone lives in a constituency. Those constituencies are represented by Members of Parliament. People vote for who they want to represent their constituency. The party that ends up with the most MP's being elected controls Parliament.
Yes. If you fail to achieve an overall majority, no one party can control parliament, which is called a "hung parliament".
The Tories failed to acheive an overall majority. As such, they ended up looking for other parties to "team up" with in a "coalition government". AFAIK, that failed too.
Yup. The reason she called the election early was because the Tories only had a small majority, and that would have been difficult to work with. Obviously, she's now in a much worse position.
Right, as far as the whole Brexit thing is concerned.
The way it's been described on the news is she could have just let things ride with her small majority, and negotiated Brexit which has to be done in 2 years, and the next general election wasn't for another 3, so she totally boned herself.
Some suspect that she did this on purpose so she has an excuse to resign so that she doesn't end up being the person held responsible for Brexit, but I think she just messed up.
@MattD It just makes the negotiations far more complicated. Rather than having to ensure that most of her Tory MP's are on board with any proposals put forward, she now has to gain support from MP's in other parties too.
So can the Prime Minster call for a special election like this pretty much whenever? Just be like, "Fuck it, it's Tuesday, let's have a special election?"
I was re-watching Jurassic Park (1993) recently, trying to follow the characters' paths on a map, and noticed something a bit strange.
When the group starts the tour, they get in the electric cars at (1), enter the park at (2), go past the dilophosaurus enclosure at (3), go on to the no-show T-r...
@DForck42 I agree but there's nothing canon or definitive to confirm that they took the longer route back...which is the problem. I'm not even sure there is such a map or diagram. I've found at least 3 different semi-offical maps and they are all different - Which would actually be my answer plus I think there's something in the script.
@NapoleonWilson I believe that the person who Cruises character was based on tried to save one of the guys from the death penalty in this horrible crime committed in Connecticut a while back
The Cheshire, Connecticut home invasion murders occurred on July 23, 2007. Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her two daughters were raped and murdered, while her husband, Dr. William Petit, was injured during a home invasion in Cheshire, Connecticut. The Hartford Courant referred to the case as "possibly the most widely publicized crime in the state's history". In 2010, Steven Hayes was convicted of the murders and sentenced to death. His accomplice, Joshua Komisarjevsky, was found guilty on October 13, 2011, and sentenced to death on January 27, 2012. In August 2015, the state of Connecticut abolished...
Based on the map provided, my assumptions were: sending them back the way they came put them in a safer area of the park, as the southern half of the island is mostly herbivores, and it's flatter which makes rescue easier. Also puts them closer to the East Dock for evacuation.
@DForck42 For one of them, yes. Because one of them wanted to die. I believe he committed suicide in jail. I watched a documentary on the case a while ago.
What they did to that family and the torture they put them through is unthinkable. I was so upset after watching it.
Some of the stuff that gets flagged in SE chatrooms simply baffles me.
Asian movie about killing people in a play and there's no way out for the actors. Even when they asked for help, all the viewers thought it was not real and just a part of their play. They need to play some kind of killing game in order to get out of the cage on the stage. I remembered they speak...
The story is a little slow-paced at times and sometimes I'd like to know more how the main storyline with Shadow progresses, rather than seeing a ton of stretched-out flashbacks and side stories, as this newest episode.
I don't know the book story. But Odin and Shadow met up with Vulcan last episode, with interesting developments. And the dead wife is traveling with the Leprechaun in an ice cream truck to...wherever. ;-)
Uh...the guy leading the weapon factory in the super gun-crazy town.
The actual god goes under various names anyway. Isn't Vulcan just the Roman version of Hephaistos?
Oh, Wikipedia says:
> a new character created by Green and Fuller, though inspired by an initial concept of Gaiman's, specifically for the series and described as having "bound himself to guns".
I'm sure it has a better actual definition, but I'd define it as artifacts, imagery and cultural considerations evoking an inherently "American" feeling. The mixture of which with all other kinds of older traditions (which modern American culture itself could be regarded as being partly made of) is a large part of what American Gods derives its fascination from, I think.
To define it in the most "down-to-earth" way, it's the stuff and feelings that come to your mind when you close your eyes and just think "America". If that definition bears any scientific accuracy I don't know, though. ;-)
@DForck42 It doesn't feel that way either, seeing how nothing too signifcant has really happened yet. (Which isn't necessarily meant in a negative way.)
One would have thought it would take longer to sail that far and also it seemed unreasonably lucky that the boat went in the right direction while they were sleeping. (But I'm not a sailor).
This can be increased, but only up to a maximum of 35 characters. This means zen-and-the-art-of-motorcycle-maintenance is right out.
I increased the allowed length to 32, thus allowing zen-and-art-of-motorcycle-maint, which should be a little bit easier to recognize. This sort of compromise is ...
In Wonder Woman (2017), the Amazonian island of Themyscira is obscured from the world by a mystical fog. After being hidden away for apparently thousands of years, this fog is penetrated first by Steve Trevor's crashing plane, then by multiple German boats.
It would seem unlikely that this coul...
Does anyone remember the name of a short film or maybe it was a tv program from the early 1990s or late 1980s ,
I think it was a program depicting fables, I used to watch it on a video tape, in the UK although it may not have been British.
Basically all I can remember is a sun setting over a sma...
From my childhood I remember Electra Woman and Dyna Girl in part for being one of the few live-action superhero shows available, but primarily for the awesome theme song. I remember it actually changing time in the middle, which is not something you hear a lot from throwaway TV show theme songs.

In last night's episode of the Showtime revival of Twin Peaks, i.e. episode 6, Richard Horne (presumably related to Benjamine Horne) runs over and kills a little boy with his truck. Carl Rodd, an old trailer park owner who first appeared in the movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, witnesses this...
In Breaking Bad, Mike clearly calls Jimmy by his alternate name "Saul" multiple times. In Better Call Saul we see that their paths are crossed quite considerably before Jimmy even starts using his alter ego of Saul Goodman.
Why does Mike entertain this alter ego name? He doesn't seem the type of...
Wut?! How come I never realized the weapons dealer henchman guy from Ghost Protocol is pretty much the same guy who worked for Max in the first movie. And they even got the bag over the head. So was this just some little reference or an actual story relation? I don't think Max would be all too happy to see Ethan after what he did.
> Dumb luck? > Was it? I mean, look, we were unprepared, in the dark, disavowed. The only thing that functioned properly on that mission, was this team. I don't know how we ended up together, but I'm glad we did.
I had once watched this car racing animated tv show and I can't remember it. The cars were kind of like the tamiya car designs and there was different functions on the cars too. The cartoon was was where these kids(I think) race with like these toy cars. Also the main characters car had wings whi...
