@DrRDizzle wow
@Paulie_D I was forced to
@AJ that joke is older already

@Paulie_D That traffic doesn't mean effin' jack, though, if all those users don't stay and contribute useful stuff.

@NapoleonWilson I tend to agree...

@DrRDizzle I do think the community got a little more progressive with closing down the bullshit over the last months, which I'm really glad for.

> I do think the community got a little more progressive with closing down the bullshit over the last months, which I'm really glad for.
You're welcome :)

@Paulie_D It would prosper in different ways. There's this old saying about quality over quantity.

3:15 PM
Hmm...perhaps we need to see what stats we can drag out about user account retention and questions and see what's actually happening. I don't have the skills to do that though.

Feel free to share any insights here.

@NapoleonWilson Wow! That's a really good answer.

I don't know how well-versed you're on Movies & TV Meta, but there's already an abyss of discussion about this topic in general.

@MattD bows Thought as much.

@Paulie_D Of course. I wouldn't have a problem with them being an occasional thing, at a constant ratio. The actual problem is that they're steadily growing and that growth doesn't bring out the best in them and actively distorts what the site is actually about. This has always been the main concern (and pretty much the reason why the only site where they don't tend to drown out everything else is also the only site on SE having a really hard time understanding what's so bad about them).

Q: I wonder if anyone can help me

Rebecca Laura Rowe LotlSo years ago there was this film on Netflix about a young woman who was meant to be on vacation but was interviewing a family about their house. I remember her boyfriend ringing a few times and even coming to the house to see her. Anyway, the family have a child an autistic son who if I can r...

@MovieReel I wonder how lame next ID title will be

3:36 PM
@AJ Then I don't want to know really. ;-)

@Catija Is that friggin' real?

It's not "official"... A fan made it, I think.
The video is real enough, though... and awesome.

Urgh, okay then.

I can never understand the Simpsons craze or south park or American dad

3:38 PM
the katakana in that thumbnail appear to say "cowboy bebop" so I'm guessing not real =P

It's Cowboy Bebop and The Simpsons.

Well, yeah, the video is great. But then don't say it's the effin' Japanese opening if you made it yourself, dude!
@Catija Oh, see, I didn't get that.

The title is crap... but the actual title is what Ixrec said "Cowboy Bebop The Simpsons".

@NapoleonWilson She always have strange lyrics in her songs. For eg., let's have some fun, this beat is sick. I wanna take a ride on your disco stick, I want your horror and your vertigo stick etc.

@AnkitSharma Yes, obviously.

Q: Where did Wonder Woman's sword come from?

Phlegon_of_TrallesOkay, first, this question will have spoilers. Now then, in Batman v Superman, we see that WW has a sword - this is a very special sword since it can pierce Kryptonian skin (namely doomsday's skin). This means it's not a normal everyday sword - as that would likely get bent or broken when someo...

So apparently Power Rangers is ending its US theatrical run this week, and thus far it's managed to gross $140 million worldwide on a $100 million budget.

Heh, completely forgot about that.

And looking at the numbers for other movies, nearly 82% of the $1.2 billion made by Fast 8 came from foreign markets.

I passed on that, too.

I didn't see Fast 8 but I did see Power Rangers.

I liked all the previous films, but somehow felt no urge to watch this one. I didn't even learn there was going to be one until almost release date. Maybe I'm finally saturated. But I'll sure catch it on TV or Amazon Prime.
I missed quite a bit of stuff lately, the only one I really regret being Logan, though.

5:56 PM
I didn't see the 7th due to reasons, but I didn't see 8 because the trailers made it look like total garbage.

But I'm glad I made it to Alien and will definitely make sure to see Wonder Woman.

Still need to find time for Alien. Maybe when my wife is out of town in a couple weeks.
I'll see it on a discount night.

A J
@NapoleonWilson \o/
So you admit that it not only appeals 14 years old?
@MattD We have discounts every day. Morning shows always are just half of other shows.
@MattD ohh.

@AJ We have that in the US as well. They're not half price, but they're cheaper before noon, then cheaper before 5PM, after which they're full price.
Lots of theaters now have a "Discount Tuesday". Marcus theaters are $5 for all movies all day, $8 for 3D movies, but not on special engagements. AMC gives you $2 off if you're a Stubs program member, $5 off if you're a Stubs Premiere member.
Downside to AMC's promotion is you have to buy tickets at the box office, can't use the discounts online. Marcus will let you buy online and even days in advance.

A J
We used to have discount Wednesday, but they made morning shows cheaper and closed that scheme.

6:06 PM
So long as that applies to weekend showings, I wouldn't be super salty about that.
Marcus used to have a program where you paid $25/month and got into as many movies as you wanted that month.
They shut it down because people would come to see movies but not buy snacks, which is where most of the money is made.

A J
That's cool.

$5 Tuesdays replaced it.

A J
@MattD oh yeah. They make lots of money in snacks.
We get burger and a cold drink in $8 and popcorn for $2.

@AJ Yep. Theaters are really nothing more than glorified popcorn vendors.

A J
@MattD And I can make much better popcorn then them in comparatively lesser price.
And that is for whole family.

Q: Why did Syrena help Jack Sparrow?

blueTowards the end of "Dead men tell no tales", Syrena (who has just been freed by the dying priest-guy) helps Jack by giving him the chalices. How does she even know that her help is needed? Why? If I was her I would want that mermaid tear to not be used at all

@AJ The image here doesn't work for me: movies.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/2817/…

We have discounts on tuesday, too, usually. But I always buy a 5-ticket discount thing, where every movie on every day basically just costs 6.50, no matter the seat.

Never mind... works now... odd.

Bug in the bug report?

6:29 PM
I don't think our theaters have any of these cool discounts...
Well, at least, not the Drafthouse, which is my go-to.
I know the big chains like Regal and AMC offer "matinee" pricing at shows before 5 pm... but it depends on the theater sometimes.

@Catija You get to go to an Alamo Drafthouse any time you want. I don't want to hear any complaining about not getting discounts.

I only get 25% off my credit card and that's it
And some time 100/150 off site offers

6:57 PM
@MattD Ha ha. I love that the Drafthouse has such a great reputation.

@Catija I'm just glad you didn't take the comment the wrong way. :P

Now I'm trying to figure out which way that would be.

@NapoleonWilson The me coming off as an asshole way.

@MattD Bah. I always assume the best, especially from friends.

A: Any acknowledged consideration between the treatment of 'Gone Girl' in light of the Oscar Pistorious case?

steelersquirrelNO There is no sourced evidence that the circumstances surrounding the Oscar Pistorious case had any influence on filmmakers. HOWEVER There is evidence that it was based to some degree on the Scott Peterson case. Author Gillian Flynn and the film's director, David Fincher have both made refere...

Woot! Woot!

7:26 PM
Awwwwwwww. Ben Stiller and his wife are getting a divorce :'(
They are such a great couple and I love the movies that they do with each other. Bummer.

For someone eschewing all these reality TV-shows, you're always up on your game in all these things. ;-P
Oh, is that the girl from Dodgeball? She's certainly likeable.

It's because I read msn every day and stuff like that always appears on the main page.
@NapoleonWilson Yes! And Zoolander, of course!

Oh, right.

She's in practically all of his movies

Probably not anymore.

7:32 PM
Yeah...that's why I'm bummed :(
Everyone seems to be splitting up lately :'(
We have had a lot of questions in HNQ in the past 24 hours! Woot!
See what the challenge does @NapoleonWilson! ;)

'nneed.

Why do you think that I am always pestering you about it? ;)
What do you guys do with the suggestions that have been sitting there for a while that aren't used yet?

7:49 PM
@steelersquirrel Keep 'em sit longer till they're used. ;-)

Well, I am off to the Doctor :'(
I will talk to you later.

@steelersquirrel Awww, everything will turn out well, I promise!
@steelersquirrel See ya!

I really get the feeling I could just leave work right now and no one here would notice or care.

I'll do some American Gods meanwhile.

@NapoleonWilson Just watched the fifth(?) last night... apparently there are only two more waiting to be aired at this point. :( I can't imagine it getting to a "settled" place in only two more episodes.
It still feels really raw.

8:03 PM
Hmm, I thought it would be 10.
But anyway, I'm sure they're planning more seasons.
@Catija (If you watched the newest one, that should be the 6th, by the way.)

@NapoleonWilson Ah. Pretty sure it was... I can't remember which day they air. Yes, looking at the listing, It was the sixth episode.

They air on sunday as much as I know. And we get them on Amazon Prime on monday here.

Ah. Oh, I see 8pm eastern, which would be why we were able to watch it last night at ~9 pm

I think the only benefit to living in an area with central time (most anyway) would be shows are on earlier.

Dunno. We never watch movies on live TV anyway.

8:20 PM
Depends on the show for me. Tonight I'll definitely be watching Better Call Saul after it's aired to avoid commercials. AMC is terrible with commercials.

That's totally gone past me, though. I never even tried it, even though I should.
But there's too much on the list. I haven't even cought up to The Walking Dead.

I only watch the main Walking Dead series, not the summer one.
Hopefully the next season is a bit more lively, pun intended.

Yeah, me too (if you're talking about Fear The Walking Dead).

I am.

I watched the first season (or the first half of it?) and frankly, that was a bit too much family drama and one stupid character too much for me.

8:23 PM
I sort of watched the first episode. Didn't really get my attention, clearly.
I think they should use summer as their time to take chances on different, more "unconventional" shows.

Q: 70s / 80s thriller about a warhead that fell down accidentally

HeisenbergCompensatorMany years ago, I watched a movie and can't find it again. Maybe you can help! :) In the movie a bomb, missile, warhead or something like that crashes into a building or its roof construction. This might have happened due to an airplane accident or a technical malfunction in the airplane cargo c...

It's awesome how he can actually convince a guy who he indirectly murdered of taking the blame for it himself. Louis Bloom is just an iconic character and should have gotten Jake Gyllenhaal at least a nomination.

It frightens me that you admire this guy so much ;)

I admire his efficiency, in the same way Ash admires the Alien's perfection. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson Alien's as in Xenomorphs? if they're so perfect how come they keep loosing

@Memor-X No, Alien as in Alien. "Xenomorph" isn't any more specific a term than "Alien". ;-P
@Memor-X Because that's what the human film-makers want them to do.

10:55 PM
@NapoleonWilson So Alien as in the movie Alien right

Yes, pretty much.
The one that had a character named Ash.
Who keeps on saying "yes" all the time.

@NapoleonWilson Of course you do ;)

@NapoleonWilson ahhh ok. generally when i think of Ash i think of an Immortal who captures Duel Monsters

I think of Evil Dead :P

Oh, right, you're an anime person. ;-)

11:01 PM
Doesn't someone who hangs out in here live in St. Louis?

East St. Louis?

Huh? St. Louis, Missouri.

I don't think so.
You, Matt and I are the only USians who regularly frequent the room, I believe.

Isn't DForck42 in the US?

Matt Murdock? The Hell's Kitchen lawyer with the heart of gold? I thought he lives in NYC.

11:06 PM
Ah, yes... @DForck42 You're in Missouri? (According to your user page)...
@NapoleonWilson Are you being intentionally silly?

@Catija Well, I try to.

@Catija Oh, right! Argh! My bad :)

Ash Ketchup. I didn't know he was immortal, though.

Q: Movie name? can't remember this movie name

user52157A movie about a woman who is mean with her friends, her friends decided with her brother to prank thier death one by one...lastly,one of her friends shoot her accidentally and turns out her brother gave him a loaded gun and he planned all that to inherit family money.

11:34 PM
@natural I can try to later this evening, but I am sure that the train ride wasn't planned, so they didn't have a choice.

@NapoleonWilson Ash Ketchup isn't because a bottle of Ketchup only has a set self life. Ash Ketchum however has been electrocuted, burned, crushed and probably other things i'm forgetting and he also hasn't aged the entire time

Anyway, good night.
