10:00 PM
a new hope looks awesome

The Jaws poster is pretty super iconic, too.

SQUIRRELS!!!!

I don't think I'd seen the poster for Moon.

10:01 PM

@steelersquirrel kek

@NapoleonWilson Well, what in the heck are you talking about, then? ;)
@BlueMoon93 Hehehe! Well, I had to stick a squirrel one in here ;)

Ohhhh...that's a cool one!

@Catija Again, the aliasing might not get better from the very small scale.

user132126
10:02 PM
Moon was good.

@Catija Oh indeed, the silent era.
@CreationEdge True.

@Catija this looks very unique

Wut? Why on earth didn't they dub the songs in Brave?

Metropolis is one of those films that no one's actually really seen in the recent era... since half of it was lost.

woa, a 98 on metascore for Metropolis
@Catija is that a joke? did half the film really get lost?
O.o

10:04 PM
@BlueMoon93 Well, it's a classic. That 98 might also be its age by now.
Well, almost at least.

@NapoleonWilson hahaha almost xD

@BlueMoon93 Yeah. They've been trying to reconstruct it for decades. I think they have something like 80-90% now?

@Catija I don't know. They showed a restoration from 2010 on TV some years ago, which had acclaimedly new material that was just found and added recently.
Half might be an exaggeration.

> After a long restoration process, the film was 95% restored and shown on large screens in Berlin and Frankfurt simultaneously on 12 February 2010.
Metropolis is a 1927 German expressionist epic science-fiction drama film directed by Fritz Lang. He and his wife, Thea von Harbou, wrote the silent film, which starred Gustav Fröhlich, Brigitte Helm, Alfred Abel and Rudolf Klein-Rogge. Erich Pommer produced it in the Babelsberg Studios for Universum Film A.G.. It is regarded as a pioneering work of the science-fiction genre in movies, being among the first feature-length movies of the genre. Made in Germany during the Weimar Period, Metropolis is set in a futuristic urban dystopia and follows the attempts of Freder, the wealthy son of the city...

12 monkeys and lobster both have cools posters as well

10:08 PM
Compared to the movie, the 12 Monkeys poster seems rather normal, though.
But yeah, The Lobster looks interesting.

Just be glad that Ankit isn't around. We would be getting bombarded with Human Centipedes :P

But they might need to appear together to get the full effect.

yeah, maybe put on opposite sides of the frame

But that wastes two places for a single movie.
You also have to look out for some sideways ones for the wide frames.

yeah, but it looks cool! :P
pulp fiction is cool sideways
but yeah, ill need to find some that work

10:12 PM
@Catija So...you know when the credits are being listed at the beginning of a movie and after the actors credits, if there is a well-known or well-respected actor in the film and they are listed at the end with "and" before their name? Is there an actual phrase or name on what this is called when movies do that with the credits?

Hmm, true. I guess you can cut away the title form quite a few to get wide versions.

exactly

@steelersquirrel I don't think so. That person is usually in a minor role - something slightly larger than a cameo but not much...

I usually have to make the same considerations when adding posters to my haikus, since I prefer them wider, too. But fortunately I found a site that has text-less versions of movie posters for free.

It's a way of making them feel special without giving them first billing.

10:15 PM
@NapoleonWilson really? gief :P

@Catija Yeah! The only one that I can think of off the top of my head right now is Sam Elliott in Roadhouse. my friends and I refer to it as being "anded" :P I just wanted to know if there was an actual phrase or word for it, so that I can sound cool next time it's brought up ;)

Oh no! They might have changed their model yet again. ;-(
They had tons of poster versions from all kinds of films and small (like 300x400 or similar) free samples for each and every poster.

My sister and I were arguing lastnight about Sam Elliott being cooler than Tom Hardy and she said that Tom Hardy has never been "anded" in a movie yet ;)

@steelersquirrel There may be. We didn't deal with billing negotiations too much, particularly for big names. They did that part of the casting through the LA casting directors.

But checking their site it seems they only got no-name films left and only crappy text blurbs about the films.

10:19 PM
@Catija Ahhhhh...okay. Maybe I can put a question together for it :)

@NapoleonWilson ah well, ill manage somehow. if i find some intersting one, ill send it to you
@Catija you work in cinema?

@steelersquirrel Because he's famous and boss enough to actually star in them rather than being just and addition. ;-P

@NapoleonWilson OMG! Did you see that DForck42 is getting a wedding band with orange in it!!!

@BlueMoon93 No. I used to work in the film industry - in casting, specifically. Now I don't.

@NapoleonWilson Well...that was my argument as well ;)

10:21 PM
I skimmed over it I think, since my name was mentioned.
@steelersquirrel Hehe!

@NapoleonWilson Yes. I told him that you would be jealous ;)

@steelersquirrel Awww, well it looks awesome indeed. Should be orange on the outside, though.

@NapoleonWilson Wut? Oh my.

@steelersquirrel o_O
Did I miss something?

@Catija how nice. any work I might have heard of?

10:24 PM
@NapoleonWilson No...that just seems a little weird for a wedding band, but to each his own ;)

@steelersquirrel Uh...like a black one?

@BlueMoon93 Mostly commercials with a few major films that were filmed locally in Austin or elsewhere in Texas.
Probably nothing major enough to be particularly impressive.

@NapoleonWilson Black is less weird than orange, but it's unique.

The description is awesome, though.
@steelersquirrel Sure.
But nothing can beat orange, ever.

Yellow can beat orange any day! ;)

10:28 PM
Meh, orange is yellow with the red color of love mixed into it, which makes the yellow awesomer!

Well, when you put it that way... ;-*

Hehe, see! ;-*
But gold itself is already an awesome color. So classic rings are fine, too.

do you all work in something related to cinema?
or are you just movie buffs?

Oh, totally not.
And neither that.

@BlueMoon93 I'm a nurse. Totally not ;)

10:34 PM
(work, worked, etc..)

I just like to watch stuff. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson then you're a movie buff :P

I only like awesome movies ;)

@steelersquirrel male nurse?

@BlueMoon93 Steeler is female.
As am I...

10:37 PM
@BlueMoon93 Are you accusing me of being Gaylord Focker? ;) I'm a girl :)

orly

... yes... it's hard to believe, I know... but not everyone on the internet is male.

Catija I always thoutgh of female
cuz the name ends with an A
and in portuguese, that uually means female
so I always pictured as a woman

I'm a female squirrel :)

but steeler, i didn't know. thought it as just some guy with a nut fetish haha

10:39 PM
It's interesting what stereotype to serve here, though.

Nope. I'm a female with a nut fettish :P

@BlueMoon93 Well, she used to be "steelerfan"... and then somehow we got from steelerfan to steelershark to steelersquirrel.
@steelersquirrel For a specific person's nuts... :P

@Catija Muahahahahaha :P

Did you wonder if he's a rare male nurse because SE is full of men? ;-)

well, on the internet you just assume everyone is a guy

10:40 PM
Indeed.

@NapoleonWilson Or, maybe he didn't realize that you and I constantly throw each other kisses and he just thought that you were gay ;)

and since I used to be a 4chan fag, the assumption was even stronger

Fortunately, I have the appropriate username. I think the A ending = female is actually pretty common in many languages... romance for certain... not limited to that, though.

@BlueMoon93 But then again, nurses are usually female. Oh, the contradictions. ;-)
@steelersquirrel Or a girl.

@NapoleonWilson hence my asking :P

10:41 PM
I'm named after a friggin' movie character, I could be everything.

@steelersquirrel well, i do that with all my mates, so... #bromance

@NapoleonWilson Only in chat and on some sites.
@BlueMoon93 Are you a brony?

Hmm, true. On only one site actually.

@NapoleonWilson yeah, when I found out about that, someone send me your SO profile and I saw your profile :P
@Catija nah... sadly, just a normie

@NapoleonWilson I wasn't sure what your default username was... I'm guessing it's Christian?

10:43 PM
@Catija Interestingly in Brazilian Portugese that isn't too common. I think they have the ocassional -o girl, too.

@BlueMoon93 Ahhhh...okay. Well, Napoleon and I know each other IRL. He is male and I am female :)

@NapoleonWilson You've made a study of Brazilian Portuguese? I spent three weeks in Portugal and all I managed was "obrigada".

@Catija That was mentioned in Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulum. I think.

@NapoleonWilson you sure? O.o

It had a woman called Amparo and at one point ventured into the oddness of Brazilian names.
@BlueMoon93 Not really, no. ;-)
@Catija Yes, from SO.

10:45 PM
Heck, the author's name is "Umberto" and is male... I've always assumed, anyway.

he is male, but he is also italian

@Catija Well, that's true, but he's Italian, that's as Latin as you can get, I guess. ;-)

Ah. I guess that makes sense.

@Catija I have never called Napoleon by his actual name. I have only ever called him "Chris" That's just what I call him ;)

@steelersquirrel Is that what his German friends call him, too? I only said "Christian" because that's what the username actually reads... stopped short of trying to remember the surname.

10:47 PM
Apparently, I am the only one allowed to do so ;)

@steelersquirrel now im wondering whether you're a couple sending each other kisses through IRC (which is kinda cute and geeky at the same time) or just friends sending each other kisses through IRC (which is not so cute or geeky)

@Catija No, noone except one person is allowed to do so.

Well, I see you're special :D
In more ways than one, obviously.

Awwwwww :)

@NapoleonWilson I'll just keep calling you "Nap" then ;)

10:48 PM
Which might also have to do with Chris just sounded way better in English than German (and the other way around with Christian, I guess).

Which is ironic since you never seem to sleep.

The difference a little rolled "r" can make.
@Catija Please don't. ;-)

I don't know many people in the US who are named Christian and who actually use it... it's pretty uncommon here.

@BlueMoon93 Yep. Napoleon is my other half. We actually met in this very room!

@NapoleonWilson how do you say it in german? Crrrist?

10:50 PM
@BlueMoon93 The same as in English, but with a hard German "R" instead of an English-like rolled "R".
(Think of a French "R".)

Krrist

@NapoleonWilson Now I wonder what I'll call you if we ever actually meet in person. My friend from the Netherlands is still "Woodi" even though her name is "Isabella" because we met on the web and I never can think of her as anything other than "Woodi".

@Catija he'll answer to anything he's called

@BlueMoon93 I doubt it. I'll just call him "Napoleon".

I got a mate whose family calls him by his middle name, hometown friends by his first name, rest of friends by surname, and gamer friends by gamer tag
@Catija I meant he'll answer to both Napoleon or Chris (or Krrrrris)

10:54 PM
My mom, my sister and my friend, April call him Chris when they ask about stuff, but just because that's what I call him. I don't think that we have established what they are supposed to actually call him IRL ;)

I'd prefer my real name, though, I guess.
@steelersquirrel Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. ;-)

Wait, you're not Chris?
wut

@steelersquirrel I think I emailed you about him once and said "Chris"?

@steelersquirrel I guess I'll just have to get used to Chris then. That just means you wont be special anymore, though. ;-)

@Catija Yes, you did! See. That's how everyone else refers to him too :)
@NapoleonWilson Pfft! In that case, I will force them to call you by your actual name! ;)

10:56 PM
I really wonder why they didn't dub the songs in Brave, though. I think I got a question. Although, there don't seem to be many to begin with.

@NapoleonWilson what should I call you then?

@BlueMoon93 His actual name is "Christian" I am cool and get to call him "Chris"

ahh okay

@BlueMoon93 Call him Napoleon, silly! ;)

Well, Christian, I'm David, nice to meet you

10:56 PM
@BlueMoon93 Well, we're on the internet in chatroom, so my actual chat name is totally fine.

(nah, using his real name will cause more confusion, its good :D )

In chat, I'd prefer my chatname, I guess.

@NapoleonWilson You'll be happy to know that, upon review, I referred to you as "Christian".

@BlueMoon93 Ohhhhh...nice! Now, I know everyone's first name in here now!

@BlueMoon93 Hello. ;-)
That's my quasi-stepbrother's name.

10:58 PM
I just know Christian and.. Ankit? That is his name right?

It is unfortunate that I have to be a stupid movie character in all of SE chat, though. Broken chat parent system. ;-(

@BlueMoon93 Yeah. That's Ankit's real name.

How bout yours, @steelersquirrel @Catija ?
(please, something I can pronounce :P )

They might not be willing to reveal them, though.

Ofc
But no harm in asking

11:01 PM
Sure.

The squirrel doesn't reveal her first name in chat anymore. Sorry :(

so Steeler forever? :P

Yes!!!

The Portuguese equivalent is Carina

Oh, Brazilian Portugese? ;-P

11:03 PM
or Catarina... or whatever...

Is Catija the [insert-nationality-here] version of Carina?

Catia, apparently. My name has more equivalents than just about any other name.

they're different though haha

Katherine or Catherine is a feminine name. == Origin and meaning == The name originated from the Greek Αἰκατερίνα or Αἰκατερίνη (Aikaterina, Aikaterinē), which is of unknown etymology. The earliest known use of the Greek name is in reference to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The theory that the name comes from Hecate, the name of the Greek goddess of magic, is regarded by the editors of the Oxford Dictionary of First Names as unconvincing. In the early Christian era it came to be associated with the Greek adjective καθαρός (katharos), meaning "pure", leading to the alternative spellings Katharine...
Except I don't spell it that way.

oh, that's Catarina
my sister's name as well
Cátia is more like Kate

11:04 PM
Well, that's easy for you to remember, then. I don't think my user name is an accepted variation in any language.

And Karina doesn't rlly have an english version I can think of

Katrina?

hmm that's more on the vibe of katherine
at least, I think the T being there has different roots

Doesn't "Carina/karina" mean "dear one" or something?

in spanish
Cariño
means dear

11:06 PM
That's probably what I'm thinking of.
Anyway, I have to wander off now. Toodles.

ciau

Have fun!

nice meeting you, Cat

It's a C... that's like the one thing I care about... and that there's no y.

what 'y'?

11:09 PM
I guess as in Cathy.

Well, I'm off too
Cya around

Yes.

Thanks for the poster ideas
Ill keep you posted

@BlueMoon93 Heh! Was that C-y construction intentional? ;-)
Don they even have bears in Scotland?

Oh, gheez. I walk away from my desk for 5 minutes and everyone left :'(

11:18 PM
Awww, well I'm still there. I know that's just me, though. :'(

Awwww. It looks like it's just you and me, babe :)

I have to go soon, too, though.

Awwww. Just when we were alone in the same room together :(
I love being alone in a room with you 0:)

Awww. Well, we're not really alone, though. ;-)

We can act like it! I wonder what would happen if I started behaving like if we were actually alone in the same room... :P
CHAT BANNED FOR LIFE :P

11:23 PM
...

Exactly!
@NapoleonWilson When are you going to bed? You can totally call me before you go to bed if you want to!

@steelersquirrel Oh, sure thing!
Soon, in a few minutes, I guess.

coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool!!!

Oh, Walking Tall, I love that film!
But alas, working life.

Awwwww. I'm sorry :'(

11:31 PM
Don't worry. ;-)
It's not like I haven't seen it a million times already.
Anyway, good nightsy. Meesa be calla ya soon.

Hehe! Okay, my dear :)
