@Paulie_D You could talk until you're blue in the face...I don't think that this user will get it ;)
@AnkitSharma Don't worry. I will be around more in the next few days :)
I need to somehow figure out how to catch PaulieD in the challenge. Dammit! ;)
Ask something like "Did Lt. Hicks have sex with an alien?".
Wait, it's Hudson, not Hicks, right?
@NapoleonWilson Why don't you ask that? Seeing how you never participate in these challenges! ;)
I participate by hosting them! ;-P
@NapoleonWilson Haha! Yeah...pretty sure it's private Hudson ;)
Oh, that then.
00:11
Well, Hicks could easily have had sex with an alien as well...
Yeah, but Michael Biehn is still alive.
I just watched Tombstone and couldn't come up with a better question than the one that I did. My sister would be ashamed since that movie is in her top 10. Since it has Michael Biehn and Sam Elliot.
I was going to ask about what Ringo and Holiday say to each other in Latin, but that was easily Googleable within seconds :(
You guys haven't seen that movie, so you have zero clue what I am talking about.
I'm still recovering from the fact that the person who answered my What Women Want question finds that movie cringeworthy. I love that movie!
@AJ Have you asked a ToW question?
Well, I find the word "cringeworthy" cringeworthy. ;-)
I guess that it takes a lot to make me "cringe" ;)

Ohhhhh...I got the three dots! I wasn't even going for the three dots and I got them anyways! YES!!

Q: What would be a good way of estimating the population and land area of duloc?

tuskiomiIn Shrek, the city over which Farquaad rules is named Duloc. But how populated is Duloc (after the eviction)? What methods might one use to estimate its area and population?

This question is leaving me perplexed
Me too, I guess.
Is it even on topic here?
I don't know. Seems weird.
It seems that you could ask this question about almost any movie setting. I just don't know what to think of it. I'm not vtc it, because I just don't know...
<confused squirrel>
I have a good Shrek question that has always bothered me...I just don't want to sound like an idiot for asking it.
00:43

@steelersquirrel No. I just don't have any question from movies Bill Paxton was in. This time I participating by answering.
I just woke up. ttyl.
@steelersquirrel No.
There's a scene where Lord Farquaad is in bed watching Princess Fiona and he's drinking a martini and then he peeks under the covers and kind of smirks. I always wondered if it meant something naughty...
You guys be the judge...
Paaaarobablay.
00:50
Yeah...my niece would always ask me what he was doing. I would always say..."uhm, I think that he spilled his drink" ;)
Oh, gotta go!
Hehe!
Well, don't worry. At some age she will understand that too.
@steelersquirrel Oh, byeye!

@DrRDizzle you mean this one ^, yeah but I am still not excited

@AnkitSharma Well, that one is pretty cool, but there are about 6-7 other photos showing off Thor, Bruce Banner, Loki, Valkyrie, Hela and Jeff Goldblum that are even better.
A J
A J
09:00
@DrRDizzle Are you excited for watching Thor's Hammer again?
@AJ More so than I ever have been before. Taiki Waititi is a really good director, and I'm 100% sold on the aesthetic that Thor: Ragnarok seems to be leaning into.
A J
A J
@DrRDizzle I think I've watched Thor: The Dark World, but don't remember the plot.
Is it sequel of this movie?
@AJ Yes, but the only plot thread being carried over is that Loki sits on the throne of Asgard, and Odin is missing.
We also know that Doctor Strange is going to help Thor and Loki find Odin at some point.
And that Bruce Banner will show up in the film.
Beyond that... we really have no idea what the plot will be like, beyond that the main bad guy is a woman named Hela.
A J
A J
ok
sounds good.
But should I rewatch Thor: The Dark World?
@DrRDizzle really O.o, now I need to dig
@DrRDizzle Is the black hair girl hela daughter of loki??
09:11
@AJ Before any Marvel sequel, I like to watch the previous films that are relevant. For Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, I'll rewatch Guardians of the Galax; for Spider-Man: Homecoming I'll rewatch Captain America: Civil War; for Thor: Ragnarok I'll rewatch Thor, Avengers Assemble, Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
@AnkitSharma In Norse mythology, yes - in the films, most likely not.
@AnkitSharma Also, that's Cate Blanchett.
A J
A J
@DrRDizzle If I have to watch Avengers, I'd better skip it.
@DrRDizzle No bruce image I can find
@DrRDizzle I think I have not seen her before
@DrRDizzle why not
@AnkitSharma She's Galadriel in the Lord of the Rings/Middle Earth films.
@AnkitSharma Because we've never heard of Loki having a daughter before.
09:14
@DrRDizzle not seen that
@AJ You don't like Avengers Assemble?!?!
@DrRDizzle But we don't know about there life before thor 1, he must be fucking around before it. Making babies is not tough
@AnkitSharma You're right, of course. It just seems like it might be a bit of a strange development, especially being as Cate Blanchett is a fair bit older than Tom Hiddleston.
A J
A J
@DrRDizzle Not that much
@DrRDizzle But asgardian don't age as humans I think or do they?
09:16
@AnkitSharma True, but Loki isn't Asgardian. He's a frost giant.
@DrRDizzle Are they even going to follow comics ragnorock story at all O.o
@DrRDizzle Frost giants are not human either and odin did made him asgrdian somehow as he is not blue
@AnkitSharma Probably not. I imagine that the "Ragnarok" here means that Asgard will be destroyed by the end of the film - hell, maybe even sooner given that Thor loses Mjolnir and his hair at some point.
@DrRDizzle Ate they fully going to ignore Natalie Portman's character now and is siff there? I mean thor do need a love interest
@AnkitSharma I don't think she's in the film
Why not Sif O.o
> During the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con International, Jaimie Alexander said that she would reprise her role as Sif in "a very pivotal part" of the film
09:21
My guess for how the film goes down - Thor returns to Asgard at the start of the movie and finds that Loki has replaced Odin on the throne. They go looking for Odin, with the help of Dr Strange in New York. While they are gone, Asgard is destroyed by either Hela or possibly Thanos. Thus, he and Loki go on a cosmic adventure looking for Hela/Thanos, finding Bruce Banner along the way.
@AnkitSharma She's heavily involved with a TV show at the moment, not much time for shooting.
@DrRDizzle It's better to save thanos for later
And who is this new guy
@AnkitSharma I don't think so. We need to see him being a badass in the build up to Avengers: Infinity War - Thor: Ragnarok is the perfect vehicle for that.
Ohh he is Grandmaster
Looks like tehy are making it liek a gladiator war film like Planet hulk more then regnorck
@AnkitSharma I think that's going to be the second act, in effect.
First act is finding Odin and Asgard being taken over/destroyed, second act is gladiator, third act is finale.
@DrRDizzle I wish they don't make it messed up, too much stuff in same plate don't work well
09:24
@AnkitSharma What do you mean by "too much stuff in same plate"?
As it's marvel so they will not going to make it any longer and 2 hours is too short for it
@DrRDizzle thor ragnorock + planet hulk + hela+ grandmaster + velkire
That planet hulk gladiator fight story is worth a single film and ragnorock is worth a aloe film too
@AnkitSharma That's not true. Just off the top of my head, I know that Avengers Assemble, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War have all been nearly two and a half hours long.
@AnkitSharma Which is why I think that they will only be using elements of those stories.
@DrRDizzle age of ultron had many issues, so do civil war, both need additional half hour more
Last act of civil war was bleh
and age of ultron had many cut scene issue
A J
A J
@AnkitSharma So, it was a good thing that I didn't watch it.
> The fact that Jaimie Alexander is still not allowed to say whether or not Lady Sif will appear in Thor: Ragnarok can only mean she will make an appearance to some extent. It is also worth mentioning that the actors behind Thor’s Asgardian comrades the Warriors Three, Ray Stevenson (Volstagg), Tadanobu Asano (Hogun), and Zachary Levi/Josh Dallas (Fandral), were also excluded from Marvel’s cast announcement back in May.
> But during the Nerd HQ event last week, Levi actually implied he’ll spend a couple days filming Ragnarok while he was interviewing Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston. Only time will tell, but what do you think? comicbookmovie.com/thor/thor_ragnarok/…
@AJ It's worth a watch but it had issues for me
Like BvS had issues because or length issue and longer extended cut redeemed a lot for me
@DrRDizzle story details ^^
09:32
@AnkitSharma The last act of Captain America: Civil War is great, it's just that the airport action sequence, while also great, doesn't really "belong" in that film, at least not with the tone it has.
@AnkitSharma Looks like I was close.
@DrRDizzle That airport scene was more of finale time moment and placed wrongly and it was more cool and made less sense
@AnkitSharma It wasn't a finale, it was placed at the right point in the movie. But tonally, it should have felt more tragic, and shouldn't have lasted as long. The problem they had was that it was too much fun watching everyone fight - we should have felt sad that they were fighting.
As expected they are making grandmaster ruler of Skaar rather then red king
@DrRDizzle They made a cool looking film with so many fundamental level issues
@AnkitSharma I don't think there are all that many issues, I just think that the one big issues that film does have is a big one. All the individual scenes work, they just don't fit together all that well.
> Talk then turned to the tone of the movie, and it sounds like Thor: Ragnarok is definitely going down the comedic route. "Taika has such a quirky, left-of-field sense of humor, which forced all the characters and the tone of the whole story to head in a new direction," Hemsworth adds. "Each day we were like, ‘Are we pushing it too far? Are we allowed to have this much fun?’"
09:36
@AnkitSharma Taiki is hilarious. If you haven't seen them, I'd recommend watching both What We Do In The Shadows (a vampire mockumentary) and *Hunt for the Wilderpeople*(a New Zealand coming of age story). Very different films, but both very good.
@DrRDizzle I know we have different opinions about it but I do feel it have issues like spider-man was unnecessary, main villain was lame, film was too rushed and no explanation on why scovia acord is not mentioning non avengers
@DrRDizzle I don't like comedies so I am turning more and more on negative side now
@AnkitSharma The Sokovia Accords doesn't mention non-Avengers because who else is there? We all know that the TV shows aren't really a part of the universe at this point. And I like Zemo. And yes, Spider-Man was unnecessary, but he was also really good, so I don't mind.
> "I think sometimes people mistake a tonal shift as ‘We’re just going to make some ridiculous broad comedy where no one gives a s— what happens and everyone gets stoned and sits around talking about saving the universe. We want people to care what happens and care that the hero succeeds. I think tonally it’s like a slight shift. I don’t feel nervous — I feel good about it."
@AnkitSharma You don't like any comedies?
@DrRDizzle I don't like forced comedy in serious situation, I like dark humor in serious situation more
You can't throw jokes on my face when the planet I like is getting destroyed
09:39
@AnkitSharma Having seen his other films, I'm pretty sure that Taiki Waititi will have a good grasp of when a joke works or not.
@AnkitSharma You 100% can. It's funny when Hulk punches Thor in Avengers Assemble, and that happens while the planet is being invaded.
I despise films like This Is the End
@DrRDizzle That was good and did worked for almost everyone
@AnkitSharma Haven't seen it.
@DrRDizzle that I can't judge as not seen his films or maybe I should check his filmography first
@DrRDizzle I left it after 20 minutes into it, my options were chock in my own vomit or change the film and I picked later option
@AnkitSharma To be honest, I'm 50/50 on Seth Rogen's particular brand of comedy anyway.
@DrRDizzle did you ever checked planet hulk animated film imdb.com/title/tt1483025??

@DrRDizzle I get your point, not seen that film yet and no plan yet
@DrRDizzle Not read comics but I like the animated film, I heard it's quite similar to comics but they can't get Silver surfer due to some rights issues, so used Betty Ray Bill instead
But I liked it, as per marvel animated film standard
I don't think I've seen any Marvel animated films.

what's up with this question
http://meta.movies.stackexchange.com/questions/2666/are-spoilers-a-reason-to-get-downvotes?cb=1
I thought cde was one of those nearly-moderator guys
but his answer seems so harsh
10:35
@BlueMoon93 he is a individual with his own opinion and in this post community not on agreement with his point
I found it strange that he would blatantly say that spoilers were a reason for downvotes
We can't stop others from having there own opinion, we can just express our opinion in meta by voting, answering and commenting
@BlueMoon93 that's why his answer got so many downvotes
I didn't got time to say anything on that post on time and napoleon done it quite well
Policy is, spoiler in title is not okay but they can be easily fixed by edit, no need to DV
Rest body can contain spoilers so click at your own risk
Even with those guidelines, it's easy to get spoiled in the title. The tag ignore feature should be more known
Took me months to know such a thing actually existed
10:42
I still think it's really, really dumb that use of the spoiler tag is actually discouraged on this site.
To me spoiler don't matter much, I click on almost all question at-least once
I don't open questions for movies I want to see, but havent seen yet
@DrRDizzle wouldn't we have spoiler tags in all analysis and plot explanation and character development questions?
A J
A J
Duplicate question on the way
@BlueMoon93 Yes, and there is literally nothing wrong with that.
@DrRDizzle Why you even click on a question and read it when you don't want to get spoiled? And nobody said never use spoiler markup but rule is use spoiler markup reasonably and question or answer should make senses without spoiler markup text.
@AJ O.o
10:44
@AnkitSharma It's that last part I have a problem with - "answer should make senses without spoiler markup text". There is nothing wrong with an answer being contained entirely within the spoiler tag.
A J
A J
@AnkitSharma That new question is duplicate and Movie Reel will be bringing it sooner.
@DrRDizzle it just seems redundant to have that tag on all questions with other given tags. It wouldn't add any new info, the plot analysis tags is enough to indicate "hey, we gonna spoil things about this movie's plot". but that's just my 2c
NO OMG

A J
A J
@MovieReel Already closed by OP. No need of hammer.
@DrRDizzle that look plain stupid, I have seen similar stuff in neighbor site where question title said nothing, full question body was in spoiler block, common that can't be reasonable
@BlueMoon93 When I say tag, I mean HTML tag, not subject tag.
@AnkitSharma Why not?
10:46
@DrRDizzle because it look stupid
@AnkitSharma Oh no!
/s
@DrRDizzle ah.. Yeah, i use spoiler tags when I can, so I agree with you there :P
@BlueMoon93 ufff, removed it from chat
tried to fix the title
A J
A J
I used Spoiler mark-up when Apocalypse was released. Napoleon guided me through. So, I removed it all.
@AnkitSharma Dammit man! I was editing it too.
@DrRDizzle what is the issue with using spoiler markup responsibly
@AJ you can clear the leftout :P
10:49
@AnkitSharma Responsibly would mean using it to help other users avoid spoilers, not leaving it unused in case the mods think it makes their site look a little messier.
The spoiler markup literally exists so that spoilers can be hidden. It's really, really dumb that this site - a site with more spoilers than most - discourages using it.
@DrRDizzle That rule was not made by mods but community conscious , I became mod way after the rule was made
A J
A J
@AnkitSharma I did correct many mistakes you left. :P
@DrRDizzle Lets assume question is "how did x character died " and your answer is a big spoiler box, common that will help no one, if anyone clicking on it, he/she knows it will contain spoiler for god sake
@AnkitSharma But that question wouldn't be "how did X die", because that itself is a spoiler. It would be "what happened to X", and then an answer saying "he died, and here's how" would also be a spoiler.
@DrRDizzle and if someone is clicking on "how did X die" and expected to get no spoiler then he is the most intelligent creature on earth
What is the profit of such black box posts where everything is in spoiler markup and without checking the spoiler content it don't even make sense?
10:54
@AnkitSharma But they aren't clicking on that. They're clicking on "what happened to X", which is vague enough that someone might click on it without knowing that the die, especially being as they know that spoilers should be hidden behind the spoiler block.
The spoiler block exists so that users should be able to click on any question they want without being spoiled.
There is no harm in using it, at all. 0.
And yet this site pushes people not to
Every answer is a spoiler, so is it not better to make whole site black box ?
Madness.
@AnkitSharma Not true.
@DrRDizzle that sound way extreme
@DrRDizzle how?

I was about to suggest Hugh Jackman ToW, but had to skip it for Bill Paxton.
10:58
Like, explaining character motivations or such
But there are places where you either had to put the entire question and answer inside spoiler tags
@BlueMoon93 that will spoil a whole film for me which I have not seen.
@AnkitSharma Listen to what I'm saying, FFS. There is no way that we would allow someone to title a question "how did X die", as spoilers aren't allowed in titles. So the title would be "what happened to X". This site has markup for hiding spoilers, so users should expect to be able to click on that question and know whether or not the answer contains spoilers based on if the spoiler markup has been used or not. They can then make an informed decision about whether or not they want to read.
And I guess thats the major issue here
whether it would be decent and appropriate to do it (encase entire question or answer in spoiler tag) or whether people should just assume that questions and answers will (by default) spoil you
@DrRDizzle so knowing what happen to X is not spoiler , that makes way more sense now
@AnkitSharma It might be, it might not be. But the use of the spoiler markup makes sure that someone can find out if they are about to be spoiled without being spoiled. Not using it just means that it's a risk clicking on any question.
You're encouraging users to not click on questions.
That's really dumb.
11:02
@DrRDizzle If someone going to click and each and every post and still don't want to get spoiled then he should stay away from Facebook, IMDb , Wikipedia, news channels , news papers etc

@AnkitSharma Was it a spam that escaped from reviewers/moderators? movies.stackexchange.com/posts/67369/revisions
I mean when you watch a critics commentry you can't expect it to be fully spoiler free
It will surely spoil it one way or other
Same apply for a Q/A about a film
@AnkitSharma Yes, that's true. But those sites don't have a feature built into them to hide spoilers. We do.
@AnkitSharma Not when that Q&A site has functionality specifically designed to hide spoilers.
This isn't a hard concept.
11:04
@AJ have little patience
@DrRDizzle hide spoilers or hide full post
And what is definition of spoiler for you?
Lets assume question title is what happen in the end of X film
DO you want it's answer to be in full spoiler markup too
@AnkitSharma A spoiler is an important detail of the plot or a development in the film that is not intended to be known before seeing the film.
And what about older films
@AnkitSharma Better safe than sorry.
@AnkitSharma Better safe than sorry.
A J
A J
@DrRDizzle How many times would you say this?

@AJ lol
@AnkitSharma But if an answer to a question is all spoiler, that should be hidden too.
