@steelerfan I always wondered why she said noone knew what it was. But apparently the movie's ending is set much earlier than I thought. I guessed it ended in the 90s, but apparently didn't.

she was a 70s hippie, so lots of sex and drugs.

the movie supposedly happens in like 1981, so that would be before we really knew about either HIV or HepC

Nobody really knew what either was in the early 80's. HepC can easily be contracted by IV drug use, drinking, etc. Even then, it could be passed a fetus.

in the 80s, that was the "new unknown virus" that was killing people.

but I think that early, HIV was still considered largely a thing gay men got.

I don't think AIDS was even "discovered" until 1981 and for a few years it wasn't even known that it was a virus.

Yeah. They called Cindy Crawford "baby Gia" I read her autobiography. They would literally prop her up at photo shoots because she was so doped up and they just turned the other way and hoped people wouldn't notice.

I have seen the photos with the track marks, and you can barely make them out.

AIDS just isn't the death sentence now that it used to be. Hasn't Magic Johnson been HIV positive forever?

immuno-compromised people in general last a lot longer these days.
