On the first day of ToW, we got 5 questions.

Q: What is the win-win word said in the film Arrival?

George JosephIn one of the visions, Louise's daughter ask her the definitive word to describe a win-win situation. What was the answer Louise told her daughter?

@AbhishekAggrawal wow Really O.o
Yep no doubt
We got another AJ.

Q: Movie or tv show episode where a character sends hands outline via fax

A.J. EvansMy mom is looking for a movie scene or a tv show episode where a following gag happens: A character X (a man) has a friend/relative who makes leather gloves. X and some of his friends want to have gloves made for them so they outline their hands on sheets of paper and then X is supposed to send ...

I can see only three ( 2 fantastic beast and one BGF)
10:28
Oh I forgot we don't count closed questions so there are 4
@MovieReel I've answered this, but is this really the kind of question we want on the site? Seems trivial.
@AbhishekAggrawal I can still see 3

Q: Why didn't Harry Potter become an Obscurial?

user3932000In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, it says that young wizards or witches, who have had their magic suppressed throughout their childhood, become Obscurials and develop a dark, parasitical magical force. So why didn't Harry Potter become one? The Dursleys pretty heavily abused him—albeit...

3
Q: Whatever happened to Peter Pettigrew?

ThunderforgeIn Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, Harry and company are in Malfoy manner's cellar. Peter Pettigrew walks down and then pretty stupidly walks into the cellar without looking, where he is stunned: You know, I forgot how dark this movie was. Literally. After that, he just disappear...

Q: Is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them understandable without watching any other Harry Potter film?

Ankit SharmaI am planning to watch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and asking this question in place of a friend who might give me company. But he has not seen any HP film before. Can we understand Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them without watching any other Harry Potter film? Or do I need to ...

2
Q: How does Percy Graves use magic without his wand in Fantastic Beasts?

Ghoti and ChipsIn Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we can see Percival Graves use magical abilities (mainly telekinetic) that we would typically associate with wands, at least as far as wizards and witches are concerned. I understand that Mr. Graves isn't a typical wizard, and that he may be really ...

@AbhishekAggrawal Why not?
@AnkitSharma I'm not talking about HNQ, but the current ToW.
@NapoleonWilson I just didn't know.
10:37
@AbhishekAggrawal oooops , sorry my mind is not so straight this days
@NapoleonWilson Do we have more?
@AnkitSharma No worry ;)
@AbhishekAggrawal It is. We just generally don't do stuff like "how many flowers does Umbridge have in her office?", or "what would happen if a muggle directly apparates into the ministry of magic's council chamber?", or "what is a knickerbocker glory?"

Q: Why we can see little light even after main power is off?

user43444In Don't Breathe (2016), Blind man turned off the main power so robbers wont find way out of basement. but we can still see chracters movements in dark, how?

@AbhishekAggrawal title is weird
@NapoleonWilson Yeah. I figured it out after comparing questions from both sites.
@AnkitSharma I think it should be what instead of whatever. Interesting I read the the first line as Harry Potter died in the book instead of How Peter died in the book:
10:40
@AnkitSharma Yeah, that's precicely a SciFi.SE question par excellence (even more so for Harry Potter).
@AbhishekAggrawal I don't know. But it seems likely, seeing how SE primarily seems to attract people from higher education.
@NapoleonWilson No doubt why there are so many questions on HP on SFF.
Oh, I watched the extended edition of The Martian yesterday. Still a really great movie.
@Vahn I voted to reopen. If this doesn't get reopened here, I'll flag and ask for it to be migrated to Science Fiction & Fantasy, where we have less stringent requirements on ID questions. — rand al'thor yesterday
@DrRDizzle good
@DrRDizzle What did it add?
@AbhishekAggrawal not a new thing
@AnkitSharma Just a couple more scenes with the crew of the Ares III and a little more time spent with Mark Watney when he drives to the MAV at the end of the movie. It's only about 10 minutes longer I think.
10:51
k
Just wanted to know if it add anything more important to make it must watch
Oh right, I forgot it was a Ridley Scott film.
@AnkitSharma No, it's not massively better or anything, it's just a little longer than the theatrical cut. But I loved the theatrical cut, so...

Q: How does someone get to cast more than 40 votes in a day?

WardAnd by someone, I mean that evil feline WesleyDavid: That screenshot was taken just before 4pm PST, i.e. just before 0000 UTC. That shows KittehHead's votes for the month, which is the same as for the day since it's March 1st. Just to be sure it wasn't that SE had the time wrong, I tried...

Q: How can a witch/wizard disguise themselves, excluding Polyjuice Potion?

Ghoti and ChipsAt the end of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, there is a reveal I don't think Polyjuice potion was used, mainly because of the accent and voice differences (which in the movies have always remained undisguised when using Polyjuice), though I could be wrong, and we may find out it was ...

Looks like HP will cross 100 question mark soon
@AnkitSharma I'm wondering who'll get the first tag badge for HP.
@AbhishekAggrawal walt is nearest to it
I think nobody
because it requires at least 20 questions to answer.
11:37
why?
none of them fulfill this criteria
ohhh yeah
But it can happen in future
Yeah it will.
Fantastic beast is supposed to have 4-5 more sequels and walt and cde already have score just need to answer more question
That reminded me I never checked all HP question in details
@AnkitSharma go ahead.
I'll follow you.
11:40
Will do it later
tonight hopefully
@AnkitSharma They're not answering HP questions anymore.
cc@Passerby & @Walt
@AbhishekAggrawal My votes are over, so maybe tomorrow after getting new refill :D
Looks like it's impossible for me to get a gold tag badge anytime soon
I even have only one silver in
@AnkitSharma It'd be very hard and take long time to achieve
Napoleon is nearing a gold tag badge but for this he has to more questions.
Ohh only 6 people have silver in , I though there would be many
There are only 107 tag badges awarded till now.
11:47
Not disappointing
I can get bronze one sooner, but for this I have to answer 8 more questions and get 28 votes.
My next are bronze in and silver in but there progress is not so good. I have good score in both but need more question
But I don't see not many questions
@AnkitSharma We're getting ID questions more than others.
@AbhishekAggrawal Agreed but I am not got with identifying Id and msot of teh tiem I want to close them due to quality
@AnkitSharma Look Pori got the bronze tag badge for ID very quickly.
11:51
He is min-walt in making
However, we need more gold tag badges
@AbhishekAggrawal Nope, afraid not. [puts on David Tennant voice] Although, there is always this:

rand al'thorAda is one of the last few contestants on the Greatest Assessment Match Ever. The stern and humourless quizmaster, Mr Hopkins, is giving her her final test before the end of the show. Congrats on the gold badge at Lifehacks, btw.
@Randal'Thor great

I didn't know we'd come this far. :)
@Randal'Thor You're near to 1k mark.
@AbhishekAggrawal And 5th highest-voted answer ever on Lifehacks.
How do I search for top voted answers?
11:58
As expected Anu7 got Mortarboard badge for HP answers
@AnkitSharma really. Great
@alexolut Hello o/
@AbhishekAggrawal I used is:a score:72..500 to find every answer with at least as high a score as mine. Searching is:a and ordering by votes would also work.
Anyway, got to go. I just popped in briefly because I saw your ping.
12:01
@Randal'Thor ok. see you later.
@Randal'Thor Is it not is:answer + sort by vote better approach here?
@AnkitSharma Probably. I do the score: thing because it means one less click.
@Randal'Thor nice point :D
Wow didn't realized that I have 92 Popular Question badge. Now I want 100 ;)
Another Nice Answer.

Q: How is the relationship between the reader and the story affected by movies that are released prior to the completion of a book series?

C u guys later
What's with all the recent interest in Lifehacks?
@AnkitSharma No, I don't.
It's even weirder for Game of Thrones, where the films are finished earlier than the book series.
I always wanted to ask a question about that rather unique constellation.
@AnkitSharma Why did you feel the necessity to edit the title of this ages old thing. Wasn't that title perfectly Ok?

@AbhishekAggrawal Hmm, my head is shaking at determining which match it was.
@MAFIA36790 WASSSS
user116211
Hello @steelerfan.
Yep. It's official. My tablet has a mind of it's own. I come back from getting coffee and it's writing it's own messages. Good Lord!
@steelerfan I don't know, I just see it being talked about all the time.
14:46
@MAFIA36790 How are you? So, do you like Spanglish? Great movie!
user116211
@steelerfan I really did love Spanglish.
@NapoleonWilson They were talking about it in Mos a few days ago, but you never go in there anymore, I thought ;)
@MAFIA36790 Yeah. Adam Sandler's wife is completely crazy and I love his daughter in that movie.
user116211
Especially I loved the scene where Christina enacted and translated all the Spanish talkings of Flor to John. Her emotions were wonderful.
user116211
@steelerfan she is bit insecure, I guess.
@steelerfan Yeah, I didn't know that. I just see it pop up here now and then all of a sudden over the last week.
14:50
@MAFIA36790 I know, right? And I absolutely love the relationship with Sandler and his daughter.
It seemed like there was some recent interest all of a sudden.
user116211
@steelerfan yes, it was amazing.
@NapoleonWilson It's all good. I'm just trying to mess with you ;)
@steelerfan Wut? How?
I don't even know what in the heck lifehack is supposed to mean.
user116211
14:52
@napoleon, we can talk about maths if you like.
@MAFIA36790 Why?
user116211
@steelerfan Means for seeking Solutions to daily problems.
@NapoleonWilson By telling you that they were talking about it in Mos earlier...since you know nothing that goes on over there anymore ;)
@steelerfan How's that messing, though? I do know nothing that goes on there anymore.
@steelerfan Something like a solution to a problem that isn't really supposed to be an actual solution. ;-)
user116211
@NapoleonWilson Because just yesterday, I saw your maths account and you were pretty active; I must say I've become a bigger fan of yours then before.

Q: In Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, why are portkeys not used for long-distance travel?

Gray RobertsThe beginning of Newt Scamander's story includes him arriving on America's shore by boat. @MAFIA36790 Oh, I'm hardly ever active on Mathematics, though. Those posts are from a long time ago and even then I wasn't really active much.
user116211
I loved the Linear algebra book you recommended; I'll look into it in my off-time.
@NapoleonWilson OMG. It's because I am still insinuating that you do, even though you don't. I feel that I am just going to confuse you if I try and explain it, so...nevermind. Just drop it, I guess.
@steelerfan Like asking "How do I clean up the dishes?" and excluding every answer that even remotely commends you to just clean up the dishes. ;-)
@steelerfan Okay.
@NapoleonWilson Hahaha! Uhm...yeah. pretty much.
user116211
14:57
Wait, did I vote...
@MAFIA36790 You're actually a fan of Napoleon? Would you give me money if I sent you an autograph or something? ;)
Or, I could probably get a lock of his hair. Just sayin'
@steelerfan Um, well, do you actually have an autograph of me? ;-P
user116211
I admired him because of his diverse knowledge in different fields; now that I saw his maths post, I have become a bigger admirer.
(I wouldn't trust this lady, she doesn't have genuine autographs of me. She's a scam.)
user116211
;P
15:02
@NapoleonWilson No. But, I am sure that I could get one if I really wanted to ;)
@steelerfan Oh, that indeed. You just have to ask. Same with the hair lock. ;-)
Ohhhh...I do have something of his. I have his shirt! I can send you that for the right price :P
user116211
Germans are really great @steelerfan; be it Maths, Physics, HSM or M&TV, Germans dominate with their brilliant posts.
@NapoleonWilson I have to ask for the hair lock? I just figured it would be more fun to just take it ;)
@MAFIA36790 Yes. Napoleon is absolutely brilliant. I completely agree :)
@steelerfan Yeah, I figured as much. Just stealin' it with a pair of scissors when I sleep, eh?
15:09
@NapoleonWilson I was actually talking about just grabbing a handful from the back of your head, but, that's not important right now :P

@steelerfan Ouch! :'(
Haha! Pfft! You can handle it ;)
@NapoleonWilson Awww. You know that I am just playing. I would never deliberately hurt you ;)

Muahahaha!

user116211
Nice day @steelerfan.
@steelerfan Okay, good luck with everything!

Valium. It's a wonder drug ;)
15:23
Hehe! Just try to keep at least a little bit of a clear head.
Napoleon is always looking out for me ^^
@NapoleonWilson Of course, babe ;-*
@steelerfan Awww, I just don't want bad things to happen. ;-*
@NapoleonWilson Bad things don't happen when I take a valium. Only when I am really keyed up and mix it with alcohol and the only bad thing that happens is that I have to be carried. Nothing bad will happen...except for the fact that I have a frigging funeral to go to today. All will be well. I promise :)
@steelerfan Okay. Try to keep strong, it'll all be over sooner than you realize.

Ghoti and ChipsIn Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them, we learn about the Magical Congress of the United States of America (shortened MACUSA). Bearcat22The 1975 Movie Rollerball was based on a science fiction short story. Both the movie and the story have some flaws. What bothers me is that in the opening scene, we hear both the TV announcer, and the crowd, praising the central character, "Jonathan E" After the opening scene game, the owners o...

@MovieReel Should I go for too broad or opinion based or unclear?
@MovieReel Answered it, not sure if I should have or not

Q: Is this question on hold due to the subject as opposed to the lack of details?

DukeZhouTitle of a movie featuring a rape scene involving the main character's wife? It's pretty clear what the movie in question is, since it's a famous (notorious) film in cinema history. Sam Peckinpah was a groundbreaking director, and his work is quite nuanced, so although Straw Dogs has elements o...

@Ankit @Napoleon So, um, are you guys unwilling to migrate questions which are off-topic here but would be both on-topic and welcome at SFF?
(ref: my declined flag on this question)

Q: how many bullets can carry deadpool guns?

Juan Carlos OropezaIn the movie Deadpool bridge fight he say only have 12 bullets. But those weapons looks like Desert Eagle, and he have two. So that mean they only have six round capacity?

My review of Arrival, for anyone wondering.

@Randal'Thor It's difficult, since the questions aren't exactly "off-topic" to being with. They're just put on hold for being practically "bad questions". And I really don't know if there has ever been a precedent of migrating a question that was closed as a bad ID question over to another site. It touches many things, from "don't migrate crap" to "don't migrate stuff that isn't off-topic". I'm not saying we categorically decline it, but that we simply never ever had to consider it at all.
It is a new situation with many complicated considerations that needs to be evaluated very carefully.
@NapoleonWilson Those ID questions here are closed because they're not well-specified enough to fit in this site's scope, which explicitly excludes ID questions with less than a certain level of detail. That doesn't make them objectively bad for any site in SE.
To take an obvious parallel, English Language & Usage has hundreds of questions which get closed for being 'bad questions' (usually insufficiently researched) and then ported over to English Language Learners, which will happily accept questions that fall way below ELU's quality standards.
:33651573 (and to your deleted message: don't worry, I do know now that you have a sense of humour ;-) )

@Randal'Thor Well, it wasn't really entirely humourous, which is exactly why I deleted it.

Q: How is Trump topical in a Hunger Games censorship answer?

ErikIn this answer a bit about Trump was edited out by a moderator. Consider that Trump may become president, the Hunger Games becomes more and more a documentary instead of a fiction, which the books and movies are meant to prevent Then the OP expanded on this sidebar: As explained by mu...

@MetaReel There was a period when every question I asked over here resulted in some drama or other :-/
Hmm, there's a bug in the post anonymisation system. From the revisions it's clear who made that post originally, even though it's since been anonymised, because that user was able to delete it singlehandedly.
@NapoleonWilson Hmm, you say it's a new situation, but @AnkitSharma said earlier today that it's "not a new thing".
The part I love is where he added stuff to the effin' answer after disowning it. I was glad that awful thing had been forgotten. But it's not like Erik is wrong. Trump has nothing to fucking do in that answer and all those edits made referencing the filmmakers were just made to justify a stupid side comment that people were unable to live without it in "their" answer.
@Randal'Thor I'm not sure what he meant with that, though.
@NapoleonWilson The real-world political commentary is definitely off-topic. The quotes from the actors, while they might possibly be appropriate in an answer to a different question, aren't really relevant to this one. But I'm glad it's been brought up on meta now, so that we can at least have a public consensus on the issue, which will make a moderator lock on the post easier to justify if rollbacks continue.
Well, fortunately the people intent on adding it into "someone else's" answer don't really know about the intentions of the "original answerer". So I won't complain about anyone cleaning that thing up.
I'm also pretty sure that stupid thing spawned a Meta Stack Exchange question. But I have zero motivation for looking that up right now.
Closed as off-topic. Should have been a comment or flag on meta, rather than a chat message.
23:35
@NapoleonWilson It was a comment on meta.
Not sure why it was worth deleting from chat, but meh.
Oh, HP topic challenge!
Because the original was deleted too and there was no need for it to be kept around.
I wonder if I can possibly participate in that despite having no intention of seeing the film.
Looks like you've got at least a couple of HNQs out of it already.
Well, we had some very SciFiy questions about it, too.
Like that weird boggart speculation thing.
23:39
@NapoleonWilson HP isn't SciFi, it's Fantasy :-)
@DrRDizzle Nice review. Sounds like an interesting film.
(Though I'm not sure if it's quite interesting enough for me to actually bother going to a cinema for it.)

Q: Get pre-1990 prints (or masters) of movies? What happens to them?

Tyler DurdenIs it possible to rent original prints (or masters) of pre-1990 movies? What happens to the original release prints of old movies? Do they just get destroyed? In the old days you could rent 16mm prints of movies, but that practice seems to have died out in the 1970s, so 16mm prints of 1970s and...

Oh, now I remember. I think there was a question on Meta Stack Exchange, and it got deleted as soon as I answered it.
