Q: What was this? Possibly an episode of Tales of the Unexpected - viewed circa 1980

user41164A couple invite an old man to live with them as the 'replacement father' of one of them so that they can continue to receive the welfare/benefits they received from their recently deceased father. The old man agrees. Films ends with him lying in bed, happy to share the pension - they then point o...

Q: Why was Angela Moss so afraid of identity theft

GooseIn the TV Show Mr Robot, Angela Moss and her boyfriend are blackmailed into infecting the network at Allsafe Cybersecurity, or else face the consequences of identity theft. It seems to me that this demand is unreasonable. It would risk her job, a felony, is ethically irrepressible, and is no gua...

Q: Relevance of criminals' race in media

JHarana3Many movies romanticize crime. I notice that older (pre-2000s) films tend to romanticize the (Italian) Mafia, and many of these films tend to take place before their production date. My question is, was the Mafia a significant part of crime news reporting before the 1980s (give or take a decade)?...

Q: What's the link between "Due Date" and "Planes, Trains & Automobiles"?

Montag451I know that their plots only resemble each other but they also have a few similar scenes. Was this resemblance only in the degree of an homage or did the director, producer, writers or any other people had some kind of a goal to make a version of Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) on their mind ...

@steelerfan I don't even know which colour I like more. Maybe I will pick top 3 white, black and red
06:31
Orange is not my colour but it always follow me around.
Anyways orange also represent Hinduism
Part of Indian flag, my company's logo and even this site
> Saffron The most sacred color for the Hindu saffron. Represents fire and as
impurities are burnt by fire, this color symbolizes purity. It also represents
religious abstinence. This color connotation has a sacred meaning for the
Hindu. It is the color of holy men and ascetics who have renounced the world.
Wearing the color symbolizes the quest for light. It
is the battle color of the Rajputs, the warrior caste.
Agni/Fire is considered purest tatva/element and orange represent agni. So it's quite important colour
@steelerfan @NapoleonWilson ^^
On the sidenote in teen titans they represented orange as symbol of laziness
@steelerfan nice answer
07:02
@AnkitSharma Thanks :)
So...Napoleon is a lazy and pure holy man in a quest for light... ;)
If yellow is your favorite color:
You have a happy disposition and are cheerful and fun to be with.
You are creative, often being the one who comes up with new ideas - an ideas person who needs others to bring the ideas into reality - you tend to have your head in the clouds much of the time.
With a personality color yellow, you can be very critical of yourself
With a yellow personality you are impulsive and make quick decisions, but often, out of anxiety, jump in too quickly and rush things rather than taking things at a steady pace.
You tend to hide your emotions, putting on a brave face in times of adversity.
Hmmmm...... ;)
Wow. That's pretty scary how accurate that is.
07:50
@steelerfan nice short summary
@steelerfan In Hinduism:
> Single girls wear yellow to attract mate and keep evil spirits away.
Otherwise it's colour of knowledge and learning

@AnkitSharma Orange is the New Black; hmm... I tried to watch the 1st season; was not interested ;/

Ruby Rose Langenheim (born 20 March 1986), better known as Ruby Rose, is an Australian model, DJ, recording artist, actress, television presenter, and former MTV VJ. Rose emerged in the media spotlight as a presenter on MTV Australia, followed by several high-profile modelling gigs, notably as the face of Maybelline New York in Australia. I've seen all of Orange is the New Black. The first season is excellent, the second great, and the third and fourth are just good.
But unfortunately she is lesbian :'(
user116211
@AnkitSharma damn ;/
genderfluid too but I could have worked with it for her ;)
She has very famous woman to man transitional video on youtube and she looks hawt in before and after both
user116211
@ankit, you have really a great crush in her ;))
Not seen his work in any show but only her interviews and that video
I really like her
user116211
08:19
BTW, did anyone see the Ghost Rider in Agents of Shields Preview? He was bit different than the first time.
user116211
@AnkitSharma ;)
@MAFIA36790 Yeah he is not Johny blake but some otehr version from conics with lame burning car :/
@steelerfan It's a nice little thriller indeed. Hadn't you seen it before?
user116211
@AnkitSharma yeh; I never can think of Ghost Rider without his bike (thanks to Nicolas Cage)... but car? You kidding?.... This is insane ;/
@steelerfan Wut? Where is that from? Admit it, you just described yourself and don't actually have a source for that! ;-)
08:23
@MAFIA36790 I suppose he is Robbie Reyes
Ghost Rider is the name of several fictional supernatural antiheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Marvel had previously used the name for a Western character whose name was later changed to Phantom Rider. The first supernatural Ghost Rider is stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who, in order to save the life of his father, agreed to give his soul to "Satan" (later revealed to be an arch-demon named Mephisto). At night and when around evil, Blaze finds his flesh consumed by hellfire, causing his head to become a flaming skull. He rides a fiery motorcycle and wields...
user116211
@AnkitSharma I am sure he is the man.
ooops confirmed in same link
> The Robbie Reyes incarnation of Ghost Rider will appear in the upcoming season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. He will be played by actor Gabriel Luna.
I think burning car effect will be cheaper then burning bike
user116211
@AnkitSharma I really like the latter.
Maybe I can ask question on it
"Why they selected lamer version of ghost rider ?" ;p
"Why did they select a lamer version of ghost rider?"
user116211
08:29
user116211
@NapoleonWilson lamer version of ghost rider
Anyway that title was joke, real one will be better
Also, Agents of SHIELD has always been focused on diversity, and this version of Ghost Rider allows them to cast a latino actor.
@DrRDizzle bleh
user116211
08:31
I knew Johnny Blaze wouldn't come; but c'mon why that crap ;/
@AnkitSharma bleh?
@MAFIA36790 Why not bike
Robbie Reyes also had bike
user116211
@AnkitSharma yes, that's my point ;/
I presume that they may have also wanted to distance themselves from the Nicholas Cage films.
@DrRDizzle They are still going with Peter Parker 3rd time and not that african american version
user116211
08:34
@DrRDizzle Yes, they have indeed done that by avoiding Johnny Blaze.
@AnkitSharma Peter Parker is a much more well known name than Johnny Blaze is. And that's in the films, not the TV show.
user116211
Well, we don't know but maybe there is no caretaker also.
@DrRDizzle obviously I know but it's still MCU
user116211
I liked the burning horse of Slade also.
It is still MCU, yes. But Peter Parker has no bearing on the inclusion of Robbie Reyes. The two decisions have nothing to do with each other.
08:36
But still Ghost rider is mroe famous character then any of the existing comci book characetr AoS have
user116211
Then why gamble to use non famous version
@MAFIA36790 My second fav ghost rider verison
@AnkitSharma OK, but what does that have to do with anything?
user116211
@AnkitSharma point hai, boss; par unko samaj nahin aata....
@DrRDizzle Are your really reading anything at all O.o
@MAFIA36790 lol, agreed
08:38
@AnkitSharma Oh, because it isn't a gamble. There aren't enough people that care about Johnny Blaze/Robbie Reyes for the specific version of Ghost Rider they use to actually mattter.
As always, die hard comic book fans are only ever going to make a very small percentage of the shows audience.
translate: point hai, boss; par unko samaj nahin aata
(from English) point hai, boss; par unko samaj nahin aata
@DrRDizzle I mean why gamble when you are already struggling and don't waste big stuff
@NapoleonWilson You have a pint boss, but they don't understand
@AnkitSharma Like I said, it isn't a gamble. Regardless of the version of Ghost Rider they use, this is almost certainly the shows last season - may as well a) use the one the writers want to use, b) use a new characters rather than one that has already had screen time and c) "keep" Johnny Blaze for the films/a Netflix TV show if this doesn't work out.
There is no risk in using Robbie Reyes, is my point.
user116211
@DrRDizzle The question is not about him; the question is rather about his damn car.
Is it confirmed to be the last season?
user116211
08:41
user116211
One of the iconic scenes of Ghost Rider.
@AnkitSharma No, but I think barring a serious turnaround and increased viewing figures, we can assume that it will be.
@MAFIA36790 I assumed that Robbie Reyes was best known for his car.
user116211
@DrRDizzle He has bike too :(
Bear in mind, we've only seen like 4 seconds of footage so far. He may well use a bike at some point.
If u want to avoid film, use Danny Ketch with his bike
@DrRDizzle That I am keeping in mind while raising the question
08:45
@AnkitSharma Ketch was made in the 90's according to Wikipedia, no one remembers him. At least Robbie is fairly new to the comics, a lot more relevant.
Plus, it sounds to me like Robbie has an actual story, a personality.
That's not really true for the others from what I'm reading here.
user116211
@AnkitSharma yep; another strong candidate behind Blaze in Ghost Rider boots.
@DrRDizzle Is MCU even following any comic book personality at all?
Take thor
user116211
@DrRDizzle O.o
They killed his human identity in film
@AnkitSharma I don't think he's been Donald Blake in the comics for decades, has he?
08:47
@DrRDizzle so?
So who cares that he doesn't have a secret identity in the films?
Thor is Thor; I'm OK with that.
(Also, I'm pretty sure that Kevin Feige went into the MCU with a "lets not have so many secret identities" given that almost all superhero films until that point had them).
@DrRDizzle That is why film had nothing deep
There was no real struggle
love story was dumb and baseless
@AnkitSharma I don't think either Thor or Thor: The Dark World would have been improved by the addition of a secret identity.
I actually prefer the idea that Thor is just Thor. Why would he need a secret identity?
@DrRDizzle I do think
@DrRDizzle If thor is thor then why the hell he is on earth at first place?
@AnkitSharma Because of the events of the movies?
08:50
@DrRDizzle because he was sent on earth but for 2 hours
That is just ripping of whole story from him
He was banished, fell in love, returned to Asgard. Returned to Earth to save the world from Loki; started feeling responsible for it. Returned to Earth when the woman he loved was in danger, stayed there for a while to a) be with Jane and b) help the Avengers. Returned to Asgard when he learned about the Infinity Stones and we haven't seen him since.
@DrRDizzle that just killed the whole love angel
It made Jane foster lame
There was no real struggle before picking up hammer
@AnkitSharma I'm not saying that it's a great love story. I'm just saying that a secret identity wouldn't have helped.
It do look cool or MCUish but no depth
@DrRDizzle why not?
@AnkitSharma Huh? After fighting through a heavily armed SHIELD base, he can't even pick it up at first - it's only when he sacrifices himself that he regains the power of Thor. He literally almost dies first. I'd call that a struggle.
08:54
Thor needed to be look real, he should have soem layers

Q: Why Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. going with non popular version of Ghost Rider?

Ankit SharmaAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't had any major superhero in there cast and in season 4 they are adding Ghost Rider in then mix but not the more well know version. They are using Robbie Reyes not Johnny Blaze and also featuring burning car not bike I know Robbie Rey...

@DrRDizzle no , I don't
Struggle is, he live like human for few days learn what is to be like a common man
Do some good work and learn his mistake
And earn it slowly and gradually
Not for a girl who he meet just a day ago, in the end with no struggle
@MovieReel done
@AnkitSharma I don't know why you think that the addition of him having to pretend to be Donald Blake from time to time would add "layers".
@DrRDizzle read above msgs first
@DrRDizzle How it making him any good without showing his human life struggle before becoming worthy to hold the hammer
@AnkitSharma Why would he need to have a "human life struggle"? He isn't human.
08:59
He didn't done any struggle in learning human life
He doesn't need to learn human life, because he isn't human.
Even Team Thor joke video showed his character more then any of the MCU film
user116211
@MovieReel good; +1.
@DrRDizzle then what made him worthy?
@AnkitSharma His willingness to fight the Destroyer without his powers and sacrifice himself for the good of the people he had met during his time on Earth.
09:01
Having fallen for a girl for no reason?
@DrRDizzle he didn't met any, he was jsut saving few bunch of known people not humna mankind
@AnkitSharma He knew Jane and Darcy and Selvig, and he knew that it was his fault that the town they were in was under attack. As such, he took responsibility for his actions, which made him worthy again. The entire film is about Thor learning responsibility.
He goes from a brash war monger to someone who understands how to act responsibly.
A secret identity wouldn't have helped that story.
(In fact, secret identities are often a way for superheroes to hide from responsibility and live a normal life - meaning that here, it would have gone against the very themes of the film)
Quick question about movie romance for @AnkitSharma; did you think the romance in Man of Steel between Lois and Clark was any better than the one in Thor between Jane and Thor? If so, why?
user116211
09:23
@DrRDizzle Long Answer Type, 10 marks; complete within 350-400 words.
09:36
So this whole fuss is really just based on a friggin' 2 seconds promo and the muthaeffin' show isn't even out yet? Gheez!
@MovieReel Meh.
Really? Because those other Ghost Rider films were sooo popular? Plus, he's the current version of Ghost Rider....isn't he? — Paulie_D 3 mins ago
user116211
@NapoleonWilson yeh; maybe what he wanted to say is that Johnny is quite popular irrespective of what the film turned to.
user116211
You can't deny that, could you?
user116211
Johnny is popular, thanks to Nicolas Cage - people will remember that even though the films were crap (albeit I liked the first film; the sequel was a disaster).
@MAFIA36790 Where? I only know this guy from a film. And the last part still stands.
@NapoleonWilson It starts next week, I think.
09:50
@DrRDizzle Hence proved you missed 90% of what I said . I said I need more depth and more human scene with or without secret identity.
But secret identity might have helped
@DrRDizzle yeah normal life ................it's important to make them look more human, more relatable
@DrRDizzle Both were crap
We can't compare both of them as they both can't even be placed on any reasonable scale
I only had one issue with Man of steel and that was lois lane
@NapoleonWilson Grrrr
@DrRDizzle But I know your answer, You might feel Jane/Thor relationship is best because it's MCU
@AnkitSharma I think both romances are incredibly forced (and more importantly, not at all important to the film), but I think the one in Thor is handled slightly better just because Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman have better chemistry than Henry Cavill and Amy Adams do.

VansittartMy work colleague was telling me about a horror film but couldn't remember the name. 10:06
@AnkitSharma I changed my mind already and upvoted it anyway. The answer helped.
@DrRDizzle No.
@DrRDizzle I prefer both, since it's a nice film all around.
@NapoleonWilson Yeah, it's OK. It's certainly watchable, and I enjoy the films sense of humour, as well as the Thor/Loki dynamic and a couple of the action scenes. I think it's probably a little underrated in the grand scheme of the MCU.
Indeed. I was shocked to hear that many people the internet regards it as one of the worst MCU films.
@NapoleonWilson I think I put it third lowest when I ranked them a while back, while still trying to stress that it's a good film. I'm pretty sure that it would be higher up the list at this point.

@MAFIA36790 For non-transcribed Hindi it usually works.
It's still the only option an outsider has to understand what is talked about in the chatroom and thus worth a try at least.
12:28
@NapoleonWilson Oh, I have seen it quite a few times, It's just been a while. I forgot that it was in Pittsburgh. Bruce Willis wakes up in the morning and the first thing that you see is a Steelers sticker on his mirror. Also, I had no idea that the name of his character was Tom Hardy. OMG.
@steelerfan Hehe. Me neither actually. I haven't seen it for quite some time either. I probably would have recognized it now though, that I'm much more well-versed in the intricacies of Steelers stuff. ;-)
@steelerfan How is you this morning? Got some rest?
@NapoleonWilson Oh, trust me. You will notice that stuff, now. I was watching Machine Gun Preacher a few months ago and they're not even in Pittsburgh and there was a small magnet on the refrigerator of the Steelers. I was all over it ;)
@NapoleonWilson I'm sufficiently fine, I guess ;)
Good to hear.

Color psychology @NapoleonWilson ^^
I didn't make it up, I promise :)
You people will be happy to know that I actually downvoted an answer yesterday. Not because I answered the same question, but, because the answer was completely incorrect. Sorry, Wikipedia. I even asked two mhechanics about it.
@steelerfan You left out a few things, though. ;-)
> You have a modern outlook. New technology doesn't faze you.
> You are a smart dresser and always dress to impress.
I only put the things that apply to me. How in the holy hell do I dress to impress? ;)
@steelerfan And that's a perfectly good reason to downvote. Imma prouda ya!
@steelerfan 'xactly my point. ;-)
@NapoleonWilson Awww. You're proud of me! I'm so excited! I felt bad. I just wanted to send the person a comment to apologize :(
@steelerfan Well, you could have made a comment pointing out why it's bad/wrong, so that he can improve it.
12:42
@NapoleonWilson I guess throwing on sweats, flip flops and a hoodie is dressing to impress. Whatever you say, my dear ;)
As to orange:
> You may be lousy at housekeeping as it is not that important to you - you love having fun too much and don't like the mundane - a little dust on the mantelpiece is not that important to you. However you love to cook.
> You move on easily from life's setbacks.
> Patience is not one of your virtues and you can be quite forceful and domineering over others when under stress.
> You can be indecisive, inconsistent and unpredictable.
@steelerfan No, I was making a point that those two things don't apply that much, as you said yourself. Or would you call yourself embracing new technologies either? ;-)
@NapoleonWilson Oh, sorry. I misunderstand. My bad.
Don't worry. ;-)
@NapoleonWilson You left out how you are tolerant and accepting of others just the way that they are.
@MAFIA36790 Ohhh, I though here

@steelerfan Sure. The message wasn't really any important, though. But you can still call me if you find the time, of course.
@NapoleonWilson I would call you if I found the time, anyways, whether you left me a message or not.
Okay. Gotta go. Speak to you later, babe :)

He redeemed himself quite well
14:22
@AnkitSharma What does it mean when you put "cum" at the end of a word? I guess it has a different meaning in the U.S. ;)
Cum
> combined with; also used as (used to describe things with a dual nature or function).
ahhhh...gotcha! Makes sense now!
Eg: "a study-cum-bedroom"
See...I can be really naughty with that one if I wanted to be ;)
I know the other meaning of it but this one is equally accepted meaning of it
14:25
but, I will be good 0:)
So what term u use for "Sofa Cum Beds"
Sofa who can transform into bed
@steelerfan ^^
@AnkitSharma We call those sleeper sofas or pull-out couches here in the US.
@AnkitSharma What Matt said...but I am totally going to be referring to a sleeper sofa your way from now on ;)
What about simply "sofabed"?
14:28
@Randal'Thor I've heard that too, but I feel that's a newer word for it. We always called it the pull-out couch when I was a kid.
@Randal'Thor Nope. I like Ankit's description better :P
I think I've also heard them called a "hide-a-bed".
Oh, right. I have heard hide-a-bed before.
When I was younger I always thought it was "hydabed".
So it seems to be only Indian term
Because when i search "Sofa Cum Beds", only India site result coming
14:31
@AnkitSharma Well at the moment, as the conversation is between Americans and an Indian. :P
@AnkitSharma Well, if you ever come to the U.S., go to a furniture store and ask and see what happens :P
Yeah, maybe don't search that term on an American search engine. :P
@Randal'Thor what u guys call them?
@steelerfan holy moly
@MattD lol
@NapoleonWilson what it is called in Germany?
14:32
@AnkitSharma I've always called them sofabeds (or sofa-beds, or sofa beds - not exactly sure what the correct linkage is there).
@Randal'Thor k
I call it "Where my husband would sleep when he was in trouble" :P
@MattD If you go for google, it;s giving result for sites where I can buy them
@AnkitSharma Right, Google filters unsafe search results unless you tell it to, I believe. Could also be common enough that Google's smart enough to know what you mean.
@steelerfan sound too long, call it WMHWSWHWIT
14:34
@steelerfan I'm thinking about getting a sofa bed in my Man room for that exact reason :P
Bing has apparently become the "porn search engine".
@DrRDizzle Haha! Good plan! What else are you putting in your "man room"?
@DrRDizzle Nah brah, gotta get a futon for that.
@AnkitSharma Well, I don't know. I'm certainly not googling anything with "cum".
2
Sofa cum bed is quite common term here, never heard any synonym for it
@NapoleonWilson google sofa bed then
14:35
@AnkitSharma The equivalent of "sleeper sofa".
@steelerfan My PC, a TV, a Blu Ray player, my Wii U, my bass and bass amp, my Gamecube... it's basically going to be my "home away from home" inside my actual home.
@NapoleonWilson Ohhhh...Come on! (pun intended) :P
This is an interesting conversation. I'm glad I dropped into chat at this exact moment.
@DrRDizzle You play bass? Like bass guitar?
@AnkitSharma Uh, well, I do actually what those things are. ;-)
14:37
@steelerfan "Play" is a generous description of the horrible noises that come out of my bass ;P
Hahaha!
@steelerfan I used to do that for a short time, too.
I'm looking forward to owning a house at some point, and hopefully turning the basement into my "man area", or as I actually plan to call it (and currently call the small area of the apartment that's mine), "The Ready Room".
Wow. Cum is all over the starboard. Good Lord ;)
@NapoleonWilson WUUUUUUT?
But yes, I do. I've been playing for... 6 or 7 years? on and off. I'm not very good at all, but I do enjoy it. I even once played a gig at a local arts centre, where we covered Artic Monkeys "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor", The Fratelli's "Creepin' Up the Backstairs" and Wolfmothers "Joker and the Thief".
We also played a mean cover of My Chemical Romance's "Na na na", but we never had a second gig in which to play it :(

Q: Movie where husband is given injection and turns into killer

Justin M VockeI saw it as a kid in the mid 90's (don't know why) but basically this family man is given an injection by a doctor and turns into a killer. He kills his wife with an axe, and eventually kills the doctor by (I believe) strangling him. In the very end he pops up out of a well, kind of like when at ...

Wow. Napoleon and Dizzle playin' the bass...who would have known! Awesome!
@MattD Isn't the appropriate American term "Man Cave"?
@MattD This film is pretty much the reason I want a Rickenbacker so badly.
@steelerfan Well, a very short time, and I wouldn't actually call it "playing" more than "trying" or "learning".
@NapoleonWilson Why did you stop?
14:46
@steelerfan It didn't really work out. I'm not much of a musical person and don't really have much of a feeling for rhythm, which is essential for playing the bass.
And why is there no Architecture.SE?
@NapoleonWilson Well, how long did you try it for?
@NapoleonWilson Because it's boring.
@steelerfan Hmpf.
@steelerfan Don't know, a few months?
@steelerfan That's the usual American term, but I've never really liked that.
I'm a Star Trek fan, and the captain always has a private office adjacent to the bridge called his Ready Room, so that's what I call mine.
@DrRDizzle Scott Pilgrim is such a good movie.
14:50
@NapoleonWilson Awww. I just said that to get a rise out of ya ;)
@MattD Wut? I thought you were more of a Wars person?
@MattD Oh, that's cool!
@steelerfan I know, I know.
@NapoleonWilson I like both, but I lean a bit more Trek than Wars. Blame my father.
@Randal'Thor Woohoo! I guess Napoleon is blind ;)
14:51
@MattD Wut? All the time I thought it the other way around. Oh god, I must have totally misremembered then.
Overall I just like sci-fi and adventure, so I don't see the point in restricting myself to being an outspoken fan of one or the other. They're both equally great.
@NapoleonWilson Heh, don't worry about it.
@steelerfan No, I searched Area51 right after asking that and committed to the proposal already.
I will say I'm not much for Doctor Who, though....
@MattD Why aren't you on Science Fiction & Fantasy then? :-(
Doesn't change the fact that there is no actual SE site on Architecture right now!
14:52
That's where all the best Star Trek/Wars questions are.
@Randal'Thor They get into super deep knowledge about things. I doubt there's much I could really contribute there.
@MattD Well, that's reasonable.
@NapoleonWilson Like, I don't hate Doctor Who, but I couldn't binge it the way some people have.
@Randal'Thor Because he would have to be on it like 24/7 to be able to get an answer before Adamant and Richard ;)
Just feels hokey compared to other sci-fi out there, but I respect it and understand it's had a much longer history than most sci-fi series.
14:54
Coincidentally I just watched an episode of Doctor Who last night. It was an utter mess. But this might as well have been because I have zero background knowledge about the story.
@steelerfan Pretty much. A big part of the reason I started here is it was a newer community, I'm way into movies, and reaching 100 rep here meant I also got 100 rep on SO and other sites.

DW > ST >>> SW.
@NapoleonWilson Which one?
I do feel S&F is a good site, though, and I've read lots of great questions and answers there.

But I also hear about a lot of drama, so that's also part of why I avoid it. I may kick up an account there at some point. Who knows?
I'm not fond of "gatekeepers" in the "nerd" community.
2
@MattD Yeah, I have asked a Doctor Who question over there and answered a few questions. There is no way that I would even attempt to do any of the Star Wars stuff or anything.
I say that because I used to be one.
14:57
@MattD What's a gatekeeper in the nerd community?
@MattD Oh, there's much less drama these days (touch wood). Just don't mention tagging policy ;-)
@Randal'Thor Some crap with "whispering people" in cylinders and the doctor visiting his grave (in the form of a huge TARDIS) on Trenzalore(?) and Clara(?) seeing the dead(?) River Song speaking to her and some strange lizzard lady and a little guy with no neck? It was, well, bollocks all the way. ;-)
@steelerfan Someone who's basically all, "Prove to me you're actually a nerd," kind of person.
@MattD Ahhh...gotcha.
For example, when Facebook was just getting started and my university was added? I created a group for anime fans, but had people tell me their favorite series to determine how good a fan I thought they were before I'd allow them in.
14:58
And you absolutely don't have to be an expert to ask and answer questions on SFF. Look at me: I've never seen Star Wars and got a score of 600 in the tag.
@MattD What's a "gatekeeper"?
I look back on it and I'm like, why? Why the fuck did I do this? I could have had a damn good anime group in college had I not been so concerned with only allowing in "the right kind of people".

@MattD Starred for truth.
@MattD Oh, in that case, starred!
14:59
Gatekeeping is a way of proving to yourself that you're "the best" at whatever community you belong to.
The boy in that scenario is a "gatekeeper".
