Q: Lesson on telephone sales to the operator

Boris GrushenkoI remember a scene from a movie in which a guy answer to the phone and someone wants to sell some type of service. He initially says "no", then -when the operator is giving up- he says something like "you should not give up, keep trying". I was 100% sure the movie was "The secret of my success" w...

Q: Basis of the CGI model of SS Botany Bay in ST:TOS "Space Seed" re-release

Anthony XIn the original release of the Star Trek TOS episode "Space Seed", shots depicting the exterior of the Botany Bay only ever show it in profile, never revealing the true shape of the physical model. In the re-release, we get to see it from other angles. What was the basis of the CGI model? Was it ...

@arda Yeah, he did that here, too. Telling us about the former user who got deleted and was coincidentally sitting right next to him. ;-)

Q: Why couldn't Harvey's killings be pinned on the Joker?

JokerThe last scene of the Dark Knight includes a dialogue between James Gordon and Batman about pinning onto Batman the implied murders committed by Harvey Dent. No one has this knowledge other than Gordon and Batman. Still these deaths needed to be accounted for. They weren't going to pin it on Har...

Q: Why blame Batman for the crimes commited by Harvey Dent?

Cool_CoderNear the end of The Dark Knight, Gordon says he cannot cover up the murders of 5 people, 2 of them cops. But how would the public know that Harvey committed those crimes? Why did they have to blame it on the Batman? Why couldn't they blame somebody else, perhaps Maroni since he is dead already? I...

(Or rather just a more specific version of it that should still be covered by the duplicate already.)
19:46
I'm leaning towards not a dupe because both of these questions, despite being about the same issue, are asking about different potential targets for the blame
the answer on the former question about why the Joker is not an acceptable option wouldn't make a lot of sense if posted on the other question
A cool coding joker asks :)
the latter question appears to be asking why they didn't just claim the killer was unknown and dodge the whole debate over who to blame; none of the answers seem to actually answer this (probably because the question doesn't make it obvious enough) but that's definitely a different question imo
@Ixrec Well, the other question asks about all possible targets, so the Joker answer still makes much sense (even though I agree it should be reworded slightly then).
yeah, you'd have to reword the questions and/or answers significantly for merging the answer lists to really work
which imo is enough to make them non-dupes
@Ixrec The answer slightly, I rather would say. Rarely can you just merge duplicates as is.
19:50
but the Joker answer wouldn't make any sense on the second question at all in its current form; the second question doesn't even mention the Joker as a possible target
Hmm, I guess.
imo the best move would be editing the second question to make it far more obious that it's asking about "some random nameless person no one cares about", as opposed to "literally anyone in Gotham other than Harvey"
as that would improve the odds of it eventually getting a real answer
@AJ WOOHOO!!!! I have liked these challenges ever since I started hanging around here. I know that you don't win anything, but they're fun :)
I tried to get Wad to ask a Gene Wilder question to no avail :(
@NapoleonWilson Because they wanted to give us the dumbest ending possible to a movie :P
runs
@steelerfan ;-(
Be happy that you didn't say that about the 3rd part! ;-(
Uhuh
;)
20:02
that was a good ending!
Uhuh
Sorry. I...I just didn't like that ending :(
fine then, I'll go back to watching Data replicate cat food
I like the ending
But, the ending to The Dark knight rises blew my mind! ;)
I loved all three of them
20:05
@Ixrec Wait. You're still watching that? Weren't you watching that this morning?
I even keep burton's version after all three of them ;p
Meh. The endings weren't that fabulous.
141......am I going to get rep cap, dom't know how much time of teh day left as per SE
@steelerfan nolanish ending is always like this
@steelerfan you might be thinking of a different episode =)
I am still watching the same show though
Atleast he gave it an end rather then tim who left it to get ruined up later
20:07
@Ixrec There's an entire show surrounding Data doing cat stuff? Data is from Star Trek, correct?
lol, no I'm still watching Star Trek: The Next Generation
his cat only appears in a handful of episodes
@NapoleonWilson To me both can work individually
@AnkitSharma The ending to the 1989 Batman was way better than any of the endings to the Nolan ones. Well, Batman Begins had a good ending.
my reference was to an episode I just finished where they tried interfacing Data's brain with the ship's computer and...
RIKER: The replicators on decks four through nine are producing nothing but cat food.
PICARD: Cat food?
DATA: I have been formulating nutritional supplements for Spot.
@steelerfan ;-)
20:09
@steelerfan But nolan's batman was better and catwoman too
@AnkitSharma Me too.
@steelerfan you mean because for once he killed Joker? =)
@AnkitSharma About 4 hours.
Meh. You're both nuts ;)
@NapoleonWilson 5 hours for 60 rep ,,,,,,,,,I better sleep
20:11
@steelerfan Meh (to the first sentence).
@Ixrec I don't know. It was just cool how all was settled and well and the bat sign in the sky and such.
Tim burton's batman put bomb on villain and still people cry over BvS's batman being brutal
@steelerfan That was pretty much the ending of all 3 Nolan films. All settled (and sometimes well) with a glimpse of the future.
@AnkitSharma Indeed. The whole Axis Chemicals building alone should have been full of goons, who went down in a terrific explosion.
I had this same argument with my Husband. His mind was blown by the Nolan series. Mine just wasn't. I really was annoyed at the end of The Dark Knight with the whole Harvey Dent crap, but, well.
I have to admit I'm surprised that Batman killing people was at the top of anyone's list of BvS criticisms
20:14
I don't mind if superhero kills 10-15 people per film, I am not watching tom and jerry where nobody dies
or Superman where the whole premise is he's so powerful the only drama can be in whether other people die or not
(unless you go for kryptonite)
That was stupid.
in all Superman movies or did you have a specific one in mind?
Tonight I watched the latest Star Trek in a cinema which claimed it to be in 2D but was 3D. Never going to watch a 3D movie again. Anyways it was a great experience despite the huge dumb cosmological errors. Just wanted it out of my system :)
The whole thing of "Superman has all of these powers, what if he decides to turn evil" thing.
20:16
I need to check all 3 star trek too but I am stuck back into Vampire diaries
I liked the original Superman movies. Superman II was awesome.
On other news, I just built a replica of a Usonian house in Minecraft that Frank Lloyd Wright himself couldn't have built any better. \o/
or far more interesting, "What if he decides to turn communist?"
@steelerfan what did you think of Man of Steel?

is this any kind of answer
I am just half sleeping can't judge
it has no capital letters, it must be flagged
20:18
@Ixrec or nazi
@AnkitSharma Dafuq wut? Sounds incredibly fishy.
@Ixrec It was alright. I really like Henry Cavill, so, I went into it really wanting to like it. It was alright, I guess.
@AnkitSharma Get to bed, silly bean!
BvS sucked.
same for me personally, I doubt we'd still be talking about it if they hadn't retroactively decided to turn it into the DCEU
@steelerfan need to cmplete one more episode of vampire diaries atleast
20:20
And some stupid link. Yeah, that thing's not going anywhere other than the trashcan. I just don't know if it should be deleted or spam-flagged.
@AnkitSharma Will you die if you don't? ;)
@steelerfan don't make me throw printout of dizzel's review of MCU at u
I'm sorry :(
@AnkitSharma but she said a thing Dizzle agrees with?
I do like some superhero movies.
20:21
@Ixrec Dizzle hate Donnie Darko and she likes it , enough said ;p
@steelerfan Yeah Tim burton one ;)
Donnie Darko is sufficiently odd I'm not going to judge anyone based on their opinion of it
I like Burton's Batmans, Batman Begins, original Supermans, LOVED Suicide Squad
much like I wouldn't be offended if anyone here said they hated Evangelion because the (original) ending was so screwed up (because that's completely true)
> Anne Hathaway is interested in returning to the DC Universe for a Catwoman spinoff movie.

In an interview at the Variety Studio at the Toronto Film Festival, presented by Airbnb, for her upcoming sci-fi action-thriller “Colossal,” Hathaway said she would love to tackle the character again, although she admitted it may be a difficult tas
> “I loved that character and I had such a blast playing her,” Hathaway said. “I’m not sure how it would work because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I’m part of that, but I love the DC Universe and it would be fun to take a trip back.”
@Ixrec what is that
20:24
@steelerfan I didn't like any of teh old superman. I just can't relate myself with over idealistic superman
just one of the most famous mecha anime of all time
I would really like to rewatch Superman II. I've seen that much rarer and longer ago than the first one.
Not into mecha anime
Not into mecha anime. ;-)
That remind me I still have to check Code geass : akito the excile
20:25
=P
@NapoleonWilson bummer :/
so speaking of Batman and Catwoman
@AnkitSharma She doesn't really have a choice. Her career is kind of at a stand still at the moment ;)
one of the problems I had with BvS was how little it explained about Batman's state of mind; he was clearly angry, and it's easy to surmise something happened to Robin, but I don't see why they couldn't just bloody tell us what happened and why it was so bad it made him want to brand and kill people
@steelerfan she is my girl, not going to hear a single word against her
20:29
which I mention because if Catwoman is going to show up in the DCEU
there's going to be some kind of relationship there
Michelle Pfeiffer's catwoman kicks Anne Hathaway's catwoman's ass!
and it's gonna be important to know wtf is up with Batman when that happens
@Ixrec because they want more time for those dumb dreams
exactly!
I wouldn't call them dumb necessarily but that was the wrong movie to put them in
And so many, just keep one if you really want them
20:31
if either of them had a shred of relevance to BvS itself that'd be fine
Oh, they got Ash vs Evil Dead on Amazon Prime.
They cut all the main scene from film about explaining death after branding, lois's research etc but kept those fucking dream
@Ixrec Um, didn't, like, every word from Alfred's mouth explain Bruce's mindset?
@NapoleonWilson Speaking of...you wanna finish our movie in about half an hour?
Ankit and Napoleon didn't take my Catwoman bait ;)
@steelerfan Oh, sure!
20:33
4 mins ago, by Ankit Sharma
@steelerfan she is my girl, not going to hear a single word against her
@steelerfan What's to take there? We all know Anne Hathaway is boss beyond discussion. ;-)
So I ignored u ;p
@NapoleonWilson do we have an actual script for the movie yet? I've seen you claim this before and I still don't believe it so it'd be nice if we could check
You guys are no fun. I was trying to get you all worked up ;)
@Ixrec At least to a degree that it didn't bother me and I saw no inconsistencies in his behaviour.
20:35
for the record, I'm not claiming inconsistencies
@NapoleonWilson Sure, babe. Whatever you say :)
but ironically it's because Alfred said anything at all that it bothers me slightly; without any comments I would've simply assumed "in this universe Batman is a dick, full stop"
now I know there's a story there and that we weren't told the full story
@Ixrec Touched here, though.
but that movie is exactly where the story belonged, because it's a big part of why he fought Superman (I assume)
@Ixrec Well, that's what all the people on the internet (IMHO wrongly) assume and are up in arms about.
20:37
well, even without Alfred we have the grafitti on Robin's outfit
@Ixrec We were sufficiently hinted at it, though.
yeah we need a transcript
People don't take me too serious about my next post :) It's just me with some alcohol ;)
@Ixrec Hmm, I don't know. It's not like the movie wasn't full of side-stories already. I for myself was satisfied with the explanation of Bruce's mindset we got.
I lost interest like 15 minutes in. It was stupid.
20:38
that movie choosing to include the wrong set of side stories is pretty much my biggest issue with it
it should've kept the ones that are relevant to why B had to fight S and mostly stuck to that
@steelerfan Yeah? Well, maybe you're st...nevermind, to each his own. ;-P
@Montag451 o.O
@NapoleonWilson :'(
20:40
@steelerfan Awww, I'm just messing with you. ;-)
@Montag451 Why shouldn't we take this serious? It's nice. ;-)
finally finished reading that answer from Mike you linked to, holy **** why don't I remember any of that
@NapoleonWilson I know, my dear. I will be the first to admit how stupid I am ;)
spend enough time on that stuff we actually remember it! that stuff mattered!
@Ixrec What answer? Are you talking to Napoleon?
6 mins ago, by Napoleon Wilson
@Ixrec Touched here, though.
20:42
@Montag451 Who watch this while drinking O.o
I was so extremely delighted when Mike posted that answer right into the face of all the "evil killer Batman" whiners. ;-)
@AnkitSharma Me :)))
Mike's such a bad-ass!
;)
bat-ass
20:45
Hehe!
NICE!!
don't remind us of Batman & Robin
That's just bat-shit crazy!!!
You could say Mike really kicks ice!
@Ixrec That is a shit of dying bat
20:48
Hehehe! You guys so funny!!
@NapoleonWilson Oh, yeah. Himarm invited us to go on a Caribbean cruise with him, his wife and their friends. We will be stopping by Mike's house on the way and annoying saying hi to him ;)
@steelerfan Meh.
That's cool...I'll just go, then!
This eulogy to darth vader is also what I like to watch when I'm drunk :)
@steelerfan how do you guys work with 4 different timezone + daylight saving
@Montag451 You lost all chances of being my drink buddy ever ;p
20:54
@AnkitSharma Well, the trick is to stay in the same time zone ;)
@AnkitSharma HAHAHA!!
@steelerfan but then daylight change the time twice a year
Why you guys complicate everything
This PST/EST piss me off
we have an equivalent of DST here in Britain too
everyone has some variation of this nonsense
@AnkitSharma I don't know. Because we're Americans and have to f-up everything ;)
Did you know that Benjamin Franklin first proposed DST in the US?
20:56
In India we have only IST and we don't give a shit about longest day/night so no daylight saving
@steelerfan Gheez, haven't you seen National Treasure? ;-)
I'm sure you know that from National Treasure ;)
Jinx!
Stop jinxing me, Napoleon!! ;)
@steelerfan That's impossible!
Too bad chat typing isn't real-time, otherwise we could mutually finish our sentences. ;-)
20:59
@NapoleonWilson Hehehe! Awww, of course we would, babe!
also, if we're gonna talk about silly time zones...
(don't be afraid, zero programming ability is required to understand this video)
Ah, it's that thing that gets linked daily but I never took the time watching.
@NapoleonWilson Okay. Let me get some more coffee and shut these girls up and we will finish our movie ;)
@Ixrec I like computerphile, numberphile and sixty symbols videos. This one is one of my favorites
@steelerfan Yay!
21:09
@NapoleonWilson I'm so excited that you're excited about watching a movie with me!
@steelerfan Lemme get sutt'na drink too then.
fortunately, for real-world programming we have standardized libraries that take care of this magic for us, and only a tiny subset of my company is responsible for updating those libraries when stuff changes
@steelerfan Of course I am!
HOORAY!!
@Ixrec Maybe you've heard of the Turkish goverment's decision to leave the timezone adjustment. From this year on we will be waking up in the night in the winter
21:10
It's baffling me how cheerleading and dance practice needs to be done in the living room ;)
@steelerfan Gheez, cheerleaders they are, too?
...with the most horrible, annoymusic imaginable. Ugh.
Of course.
@NapoleonWilson Lenny? Yeah, she's a cheerleader and on the dance team. I told you this before, silly!
@steelerfan Well, I knew she did dance. But uh, without being sexist, of course women can do every sport. But uh, who's an all girl school actually cheering on? ;-)
Or do they just cheerlead for the sake of its own, like in that Kirsten Dunst film?
Is this really not a duplicate either?

Q: Bruce Wayne's death in The Dark Knight Rises

JokerPeople witnessed the death of Batman. They do not know that Bruce Wayne was Batman. However, the death of Bruce Wayne himself would be highly publicized, due to his stature. It would be known to the entire world. How could he fake a death and then be present at a cafe in Italy without publicity ...

21:19
@NapoleonWilson They do like a dance/cheer thing at competitions...and I just went and changed their music with out them knowing and cranked up "I wanna rock" by Twisted Sister. Chaos is now ensuing. Hehehe!
Hehehe!
So when's that film thing going on, though?
In a minute. I'm waiting for them to get their crap outside.
They're still recovering from the music change ;)
@Montag451 The second half is Extasy of Gold from GBU, though.
@NapoleonWilson and the better part :)
21:31
Indeed. I love that track.
In the same way as GBU is the pinnacle of the whole "dollars trilogy" (which isn't a trilogy at all ;-)) film-wise, it also is soundtrack-wise.
22:05
metallica plays "Ecstasy of Gold" as their entrance music.
depending on the play list, sometimes it's the best song at the whole concert.
22:23
@KutuluMike Meh.
@KutuluMike I'd believe that, though. ;-)
22:37
Whoa, whoa, whoa...Napoleon was in here chatting during our movie. Pfft! ;)
"Sorry I didn't talk so much. Friggin' suspenseful" Uhuh.
@steelerfan Hey, the movie was already over!
Check the timestamps! ;-P
