Q: Does Mickey Mouse not have a last name?

ThunderforgeIt may seem like a dumb question, but there are high ranking people in the media world who say that Mickey Mouse does not have a last name. Thus I'm hoping for clarification. Q: Im looking for the name of an old PBS show on during the 80s

LiraBack in about the early to mid 80s, I used to watch this amazing show about the mind, the brain, and psychology. It was on PBS, and looked to have been made in about the 70s, maybe 60s. It was trippy as hell, had a lot of stop motion animations, cut and paste stuff, just all kinds of stuff like...

Morning folks! :)
@Dawny33 Hello there! Is it morning for you?
It's only 9:30pm here :)
Yep. 10am
@steelerfan So, you should be sleeping in about half an hr from now? :D
@Dawny33 It depends. I am bedridden at the moment recovering from an accident, so I don't have to get up for work or anything. I will probably go to bed in a few hours :)
@steelerfan You've got an excuse to squeeze in an episode or a movie :D

Take care!
04:34
@Dawny33 That's all that I have been doing...and hanging around here, of course!
Anyone here watch TBBT?
(or watched)
@steelerfan The Big Bang Theory
I don't think anyone in this chat room does, at least a lot of people don't talk about it. I think a few people in Mos Eisley do.
@steelerfan Ohh! :(

Anyways, I just wanted to know whether someone can get high on coffee?

(One character in TBBT (Sheldon) does.)
04:41
@Dawny33 Funny you should ask me this question... :P
I get an extreme caffeine buzz all of the time!
@steelerfan Lol. So, people do get high on coffee I see XD
That character drinks coffee for the first time, and starts acting crazy!
@Dawny33 Well, I do, but I am an overly excitable person without coffee, so it usually sends me through the roof ;)
@Dawny33 This is a daily occurrence for me :P

Sin wave or sine wave?
@NapoleonWilson Same thing.
Oh.
One could certainly still ask if there are intentional hidden allusions behind it, but I guess this also depends on how much the show contributed to the exact imagery and how much Mr. Martin did.
09:33
Ah, so it seems the similarity is largely the show's merit.

10:23
Ohhh, need to re-read it again then
It's basically a betting pool about when people die. He named himself after that.
@AnkitSharma haha

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, that answer helped :)
I guess it is a bit of a specific language term.
btw, Do these shady bars which thugsters frequent, exist in real?

Or is it just a movies thing?
@NapoleonWilson hmmm
10:24
@NapoleonWilson Like a "pile" or a "category" kind, right?
@Dawny33 Hmm, "pile" maybe, "category" less so. I guess "pool" here means something like "collection". Like a "car pool".
Noun: pool ‎(plural pools)
  1. A small and rather deep collection of (usually) fresh water, as one supplied by a spring, or occurring in the course of a stream; a reservoir for water.
  2. the pools of Solomon
  3. (Can we [[:Category:Requests for quotation/John Wycliffe|find and add]] a quotation of John Wycliffe to this entry?)[[Category:Requests for quotation/John Wycliffe|POOL]]
  4. 1612, Francis Bacon, "Essay VIII., Of Marriage and Single Life", Essayes: Religious Meditations. Places of Perswasion and Disswasion. Seene and Allowed:
  5. Charity will hardly water the ground where it must first fill a pool.
(39 more not shown…)
Verb: pool ‎(third-person singular simple present pools, present participle pooling, simple past and past participle pooled)
  1. (intransitive, of a liquid) to form a pool
  2. pool ‎(third-person singular simple present pools, present participle pooling, simple past and past participle pooled)
  3. (transitive) to put together; contribute to a common fund, on the basis of a mutual division of profits or losses; to make a common interest of; as, the companies pooled their traffic
  4. (Can we date this quote?) Grant:
  5. Finally, it favors the pooling of all issues.
  6. (intransitive) to combine or contribute with others, as for a commercial, speculative, or gambling transaction
Yeah, that define function is bullshit. It lists the stupidest things from Wikipedia.
> 4. A supply of resources.
> 1. A game at billiards, in which each of the players stakes a certain sum, the winner taking the whole; also, in public billiard rooms, a game in which the loser pays the entrance fee for all who engage in the game; a game of skill in pocketing the balls on a pool table.
> 3. Any gambling or commercial venture in which several persons join.
> 4. The stake played for in certain games of cards, billiards, etc.; an aggregated stake to which each player has contributed a share; also, the receptacle for the stakes.
That should do it.

Q: What was the first movie to feature a person seated on a toilet?

CharminPsycho directed by Alfred Hitchcock has a scene where a person is flushing a toilet. This fact provided some shock effect, since toilets were virtually never seen in American cinema in the 1960s. 11:33
It's not just random, but an interesting question about cinematic history.
Probably has more lasting value than a lot of the trivia questions like "why did this character do this in this scene?" that both our sites are so full of.
Fair enough
I think we just skip to the end of Ankit's list.
> What was the first feature film to show people boinking on screen?
then we just get into an argument over what a feature film is, tho.
11:35
My favourite types of question on M&TV are the general ones about film-making as a whole, not restricted to any particular franchise. Like that one @Catija answered a while back which I nominated for question of the quarter, or this toilets one.

@Randal'Thor Why?
Why so many why?
12:25
@NapoleonWilson I see. Well, creating/fixing tag wikis is something I've long enjoyed anyway (@Catija can confirm I've been doing it a lot on A&C too). I'm just not too sure how they tend to be done here, so I'll probably have to do some poking around among the existing ones before I start flooding the suggested edits queue.
@Randal'Thor Meh, I don't either. The minimum I do for individual works is a little description (like a sentence about the plot and a bit of meta info) in the excerpt and the same thing in the wiki plus a link to Wikipedia and IMDB. I don't think for individual works we really need to prepend a "for all questions about..." as that seems self-explanatory.
And most non-film tags should already have a wiki anyway.
Neither do I think we need to overflow the tag wikis with elaborations and details about the film. That's not really what they're for, we don't replicate Wikipedia/IMDb. If anything they should concentrate on our site. So if you want a huge verbose tag wiki, then rather list some connected tags and questions, rather than copying the entirety of Wikipedia into it.

@NapoleonWilson Can you watch it at work?
@Catija As odd as this?
15:48
@steelerfan Sure, should be streamable from the web. Either by phone or by computer.
@Randal'Thor -v
@Randal'Thor No.
Why do we still have a tag? Is it really helpful?
Apr 27 at 11:16, by Rand al'Thor
Bleurgh, M&TV really has a tag?
@NapoleonWilson Yeah, like I said...I don't really see her coming around too much. She does absolutely love your questions, though. She said that you're insightful. Just to let you know :)
@Randal'Thor HA HA HA HA
And over 900 questions with it... ugh.
Get the CMs to kill it.
15:52
@AnkitSharma OMG. Nice job on the Taylor Swift question!!
@Randal'Thor Better then character motivation ;p
@steelerfan ;-)
@Catija Yes.
@steelerfan lol
@Catija No.
@NapoleonWilson No. No.... No, it's not.
15:54
@Catija Yes, it is.
No.
No one is going to say "hey, I want to answer questions about specific characters in every possible movie or TV show".
This tag, as far as I can tell, will never be used alone, which makes it useless.
Don't let him get the last word @Catija ;)
It describes what the questions are about.
@Catija Sure it won't so what?
15:55
we are discussing it gain....grrr......i hope my sister didn't join this discussion
@AnkitSharma I hope noone joins it.
@Catija Indeed.

And character wouldn't work as the sole tag on a question, which makes it a meta tag and therefore undesirable, according to SE central policy. I propose the burnination of the chara...

Oh seriously? For f--k's sake. Meh.
@Randal'Thor -ve

15:58

@Catija Yes, it is.
@AnkitSharma You wanna talk about SFF tags, post on SFF meta :-)
Oh great, now I missed the anthems. :'(
@Randal'Thor Exactly!
@Randal'Thor i don't want to get stalked and killed ;p
I just made a post on M&TV meta, as a user of M&TV, about a tag on the M&TV site. I don't see what SFF tags have to do with anything here.
