Q: Old black-and-white political comedy about a young idealist running for mayor

LorendiacI saw at least the first half of this movie (but not all of it) somewhere around 1994 or 1995, on television. But it was all in black-and-white, so I feel reasonably confident that it was made no later than the 1950s. (Possibly earlier.) I would call it a political comedy. English language; set s...

Q: Can someone help me with this?

CrisI remember that the firls dad was abusive and one night she killed her. Her boyfriend found her and was desperate to bring her back. He decided to revive her with some technology he had devoloped in the form of a robot or ai. It worked but it had some horrible consequences.

@AJ What's with it?

Read first few sentences.

Maybe first.

What is it that bugs you? What is going on here?

3:59 AM
there is definitely some gender confusion going on there

A J
@NapoleonWilson That's obviously an ID. But it was closed as unclear what you're asking
@NapoleonWilson There is nothing that bugs me.

@AJ Well, you just told me.
@AJ That is not apparent from anything. Of course we could guess that, but seriously, that's not how it works. It wouldn't have survived as an ID question either, but there is nothing in that question that remotely established any context what the question is about.

A J
Yeah I agree. OP didn't tell what exactly he/she is looking for.

@AJ who he is

Q: How did the OA acquire her wisdom?

Keshav SrinivasanThe newly-released Netflix series "The OA" hooked me in because in the first episode, the OA (aka Prairie Johnson) talks in a very Yoda-like manner, profound and philosophical. Q: Why Eurus was sent back to Sherrinford?

RippyI have just finished watching the Series 4 and I must admit that the last episode(s04,e03) was the most disappointing Sherlock episode in the entire series. So many potholes, uncleared doubts etc. MY major concern is regarding Eurus. She has been defined as an era defining genius, beyond Newton...

A J
Anyway, I don't get the meaning of Deja Vu

It's when you feel like an exact situation has happened before, even if it hasn't.

A J
thanks

Déjà vu, (/ˌdeɪʒɑː ˈvuː/; French pronunciation: [de.ʒa.vy]) from French, literally "already seen", is the phenomenon of having the strong sensation that an event or experience currently being experienced has already been experienced in the past. Déjà vu is a feeling of familiarity, and déjà vécu (the feeling of having "already lived through" something) is a feeling of recollection. Scientific approaches reject the explanation of déjà vu as "precognition" or "prophecy", but rather explain it as an anomaly of memory, which creates a distinct impression that an experience is "being recalled". This...

Q: What's up with people's accents in Vikings?

A.J. EvansI've recently started rewatching Vikings in English (I watched the first two seasons on polish tv with polish dubbing/voiceover) and character's accents started to annoy me. @DrRDizzle but trailer made me feel to keep distance from it.
@John hello

@AnkitSharma How come?

It gave me too silly vibes

It feels like a mix of Tim Burton and Wes Anderson. Highly stylised.

10:57 AM
@DrRDizzle I like Tim Burton style but not familiar with Wes Anderson
Anyway Burton also lost his touch lately

Wes Anderson is a great director. The Royal Tenembaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Darjeeling Limited, The Grand Budapest Hotel?

I did heard his name but not seen his work
That's why said not familiar
@DrRDizzle Anyway how are you now?

11:23 AM
@AnkitSharma I'm still taking my crutches around with me, but I don't really need them. I've got them just in case it gets worse again, if you know what I mean.
It still hurts sporadically, but much less.
The biggest problem I've got at the moment is that it feels really weak. I don't like putting much weight on it in case it collapses under me.
Thanks for asking.

@DrRDizzle so sorry for your trouble
I am happy that it's better

@AJ I missed all those msgs and just reached home
Anyway wifi is down again so can chat only

Can anyone who knows Airplane! well elaborate what could be offensive about this answer?

@NapoleonWilson Racist..."spear chucker" and eating watermelon would imply something about African Americans. It is pretty racist.

4:39 PM
Nice answer by Pauline D
@steelersquirrel is that a sarcasm if not then I want to die

@steelersquirrel Oh, okay, I guess that was what I didn't get then. So you'd agree with flagging that as offensive?

It has nothing to do with airplane, but if someone wanted to interpret it that way, you could...the whole "joke" about African Americans and eating watermelons and a derogatory word to describe African Americans in the past have been "spear chucker"
@NapoleonWilson Well, I wouldn't have flagged it, but...yeah. One could be offended by the way that the OP worded it.

I can't even understand half of the racism

Okay, I wasn't aware of these connections and wondered about the flag, but I get it now.
It wasn't really an answer anyway.

I am still not clear but answer was bleh

4:46 PM
I don't think that OP meant it to be offensive, they were just connecting the two and there is stuff in that movie that would never fly today...like the whole "jive talking" thing.
Walt had an awesome answer as usual. I never would have connected the whole western scene in the background and the spear...

@steelersquirrel lol
@ABcDexter this early
@AJ I don't really care and can't even do anything till wifi fix

A J
Oh
I'm logged in from mobile so I can"t do it either

@walt yeah because a question based on, and asking for personal interpretations of jokes, instead of production proof is totally not opinion based.

Then I wonder why it wasn't close-voted before you received downvotes on your very own answer to it.
which...just disappeared.

5:37 PM
Funny how it wasn't down voted until you got involved in the question

Funny how I didn't downvote it at all but 3 other users chose to do.

@AnkitSharma allow me to quote Merovingian... "It is remarkable how similar the patternof love if to the pattern ogf insanity..."

Anyway, I'm going to eat dinner. (@AnkitSharma you got the chatroom?) ;-)

@walt aside from that, you have a different interpretation than BBWEB'S comments, steelers comments, my answer, others online as linked by other users. None of which use any evidence. That's exactly what the primarily opinion based close reason is for.

There's a difference between"good subjective" and "bad subjective", though. Answers that favour the "why" over the "what" and try to provide explanations reasoned with the actual movie are exactly the kind of answer this site seeks on questions like that, even if they might not be 100% universally correct.

5:43 PM
@walt answers to this question will tend to be almost entirely based on opinions, rather than facts, references, or specific expertise

And yet again I question the decision to answer it in the first place then.
2

@walt another interpretation, the spear hitting a dart board signifies overkill.

Interesting one indeed, feel free to put it into an answer.

<faceplant onto keyboard>
@NapoleonWilson You're leaving? :'(

But you're right in that not everything is "good subjective", there's indeed a limit to opinionated questions. For example questions like this are clearly primarily opinion-based.

A J
5:52 PM
Walt's answer got a DV. O.o

@steelersquirrel Yes.

@AJ I guess so.
@NapoleonWilson Alright, then :'(

@AJ That's not unnormal for an answer when so many people see that answer and some might disagree with the admittedly not 100% verifiable answer.
That just happens and is basically statistic noise compared to the multitude of upvotes it got.

A J
Huh?

@steelersquirrel Awww, I'm sorry, but it's scheduled and I'm hungry.

Good night.

A J
one question is now out of CV queue.

@AJ Good night :)

@ABcDexter didn't got it

@Passerby Huh? Most answers in 'plot explanation' and 'analysis' aren't supported by 'production proof' but rather by common sense. Are we reading different sites? Or are you devaluing 2 of our most popular tags and thousands of questions and answers in them?
@Passerby Also, don't Indians use spears in every western ever?

6:09 PM
I should better watch something not sure what ;)
Maybe god of Egypt

@Passerby OP didn't ask for an opinion... he asked for an explanation. And as you can see, there are plenty of perfectly good ones.

@Walt agreed

@Walt I wouldn't worry about it. Your answer is perfectly awesome as usual :)

Watching mulholland drive, I am sure many people from
here pushed me to it

@Passerby Actually, BCdotWEB & steelersquirrel also displayed similar interpretations to mine in the comments...
@AnkitSharma For the first time?
@steelersquirrel I don't think it's definitive, but well, it's an answer ;) Thanks

6:16 PM
@Walt yes, not seen it before

@AnkitSharma I won't disturb you, then. It's a lot to take

@Walt I never would have thought that the spear and the background scene with the western had anything to do with each other...that was a good insight that I had never put together before :)

I can multitask and might not even complete it today
I hope it's not Primer level confusing @walt
I tried twice and decided not to watch Primer ever again

@Walt bow and arrows...

@AnkitSharma It's a different kind of confusing ;)
@AnkitSharma It's more metaphorical
@Passerby Yes, those too.

6:20 PM
@Walt most questions aren't about obscure non sensical jokes with no lead up and multiple guesses about what it means.

@AnkitSharma I wonder what you'll think of it once a certain something is opened. But I won't spoil

@Walt you mean I will ask singinficance of 10-20 things in my upcoming question about the film O.o

@Passerby But thinking those jokes are all of that, that's the opinion... I don't think they're purely nonsensical at all. That's not really how ZAZ work
3

@Walt for now I am not sure what is happening

@AnkitSharma Wow, already? ;)

6:23 PM
@Walt first there was random dance and now accident

@AnkitSharma That's the beginning, isn't it?
