Q: Would a DeLorean actually break apart into a million pieces if hit by a freight train?

masospaghettiI feel like the scene in Back to the Future III where the freight train destroys the DeLorean is unrealistic. It makes the car look like it was made of wood or cinder blocks. Maybe if the train was going 100 mph and the DeLorean's brakes were applied. What do you think? What would actually happe...

@MovieReel @NapoleonWilson "What do you think?" made me think that it is a opinion based question.

user116211

@MovieReel no. maybe a few hundred

@AJ That's why I reworded it.
(Even if it's still a strange question.)

@MAFIA36790 What show is it?
@MovieReel Another downvote.

user116211
Ultimate Spider-Man is an American animated television series based on the Spider-Man comics published by Marvel Comics. The series featured writers such as Brian Michael Bendis (who also writes the comic book series of the same name), Paul Dini, and Man of Action (a group consisting of Steven T. Seagle, Joe Kelly, Joe Casey and Duncan Rouleau). The third season was retitled Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors, and the fourth season was again retitled Ultimate Spider-Man vs. the Sinister 6. It was first announced to air on Disney XD in early 2012, and debuted alongside the second season of The Avengers...

Nevertheless, I would leave a comment there.

@MAFIA36790 I though I said so less, I even want to say marvel doesn't even remember how to make good animation and they should better stay with MCU is exaggerating

Q: Where did all that water go?

John SensebeIn Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Ethan Hunt must switch access cards in an underwater chamber. There is a large intake with gallons upon gallons of water flowing down it constantly, but no mention of an outlet for all that water. The only exit seems to be a closed hatch. Where was all that ...

@MovieReel Is it not 3rd question about water?

A J
It seems that John Senesebe just watched MI5.
Another question in 5 minutes.

Ok, so what's with the non-ID questions today?

Q: Which criminal investigation TV series has the highest number of episodes based on actual criminal cases?

Ken GrahamWhat TV crime solving series like Criminal Minds, CSI Miami, NCIS, Law & Order, Criminal Intent, etc. has the highest number of episodes based (however loosely) on actual criminal investigations that were carried out by police?

AxelrodThe movie Babe, featuring a pig that wants to be a sheep dog, was filmed in New South Wales, Australia. However, my memory has failed me as to where it was supposed to be set in-universe. Q: How to deal with downvotes on legitimate questions?

papakiasA lot of questions are getting downvoted while being very interesting and legitimate questions. I don't know why this happens but I would like to know a way to deal with this since it really discourages (especially new users) to write questions.

@MetaReel Ask better legitimate questions?

Wow, someone is high on rocky
should I blame steeler for it too :)

@MAFIA36790 It's unfortunate if you're now going to watch Rocky V. It's just...not good :(

Anyways you tricked me into changing my watch-list again and change priority of American psycho
And have to see one tim burton film too :9

@AnkitSharma Hehehe! I s that why you called me the devil? Muahahaha!

user116211
@steelerfan ohh... yeh it's due tomorrow; I thought all Rocky films were a hit ;/ But still I would watch unless there is some freakin' thunderstorm ;|

@steelerfan I called u devil because @MAFIA36790 just said your name and u appeared. there is one phrase about it
"Speak of the devil and he doth appear"

@AnkitSharma Ahhhh...yes. "speak of the devil and he she shall appear"

@MAFIA36790 good for movies.se ;)

@MAFIA36790 It's alright. Nothing compared to the first 4. Rocky Balboa is great, though.

@steelerfan Rocky Balboa was good, though.

user116211
@steelerfan okayish.

3:40 PM
@AnkitSharma Oh, cool! My Tim Burton suggestion was accepted! Woohoo!
@NapoleonWilson See above comment, silly!

@steelerfan Okay.

@steelerfan Now u are expectation to win

Now, I need to think of other suggestions. There's only one more without a negative vote isn't there?

@steelerfan You should rather concentrate your efforts on asking some actual Tim Burton questions!

user116211
I never saw the ending credits though, but I happened to see the name Jane Oliver whom the film was dedicated to.....

3:45 PM
@AnkitSharma Well, I didn't win the Alan Rickman one that I suggested :( Anyways, I only suggested the Tim Burton one because I read somewhere that it was his birthday soon and I thought that it would be interesting...you know, like his movies ;)

@NapoleonWilson agreed @steelerfan

user116211
I did google the name but there is no wiki article on him/her.

I have mixed expedience with Tim

Well, they show Batman next week and maybe I can watch it. They'll also air Batman Returns, but I've seen that about a year ago and that's probably enough for the next decade.

@NapoleonWilson Okay, I will ask why he decided to make Jack Napier the killer of Batman's parents and then make him the joker ;)
@MAFIA36790 Are you talking about Rocky V?

3:48 PM
@AnkitSharma Me too. He made some great films, but when his fairytale gothic gets the better of him, it can get a little too strange.

I love Tim Burton movies. They're just fun.

@steelerfan Heis stuck with rocky

@steelerfan Why not. But was that even his decision? Did he write the screenplay? (Aynway, even if he didn't, it's still about one of his movies.)

user116211
@steelerfan no; I noticed the name while watching the ending of Rocky IV.

@steelerfan Even that barber one ;O

3:49 PM
@AnkitSharma It's hard not to be after watching the series. He will be shadow boxing for weeks now ;)

@steelerfan sound ok to me but remember I can't give you my vote today ;)

Sleepy Hollow was really nice. Edward Scissorhands was, I don't know, a little too fairytalish maybe. But I haven't seen it in ages, maybe I should give it another try.
Sweeney Todd was just largely boring to me.

I do wanted to ask if I should go fro Dark shadows or sleepy hollow.
@NapoleonWilson same pinch

@NapoleonWilson Well, I was just shocked that wasn't in the comics or anything. I thought that was Batman law or something just because of Burton's Batman movie.

Alice in Wonderland was nice, but also a little forgettable, quite a lordoftheringization of a classic work.

3:51 PM
Even his planet of ape was just ok to me, reboot was better

@steelerfan Well, it's not a bad question, I guess.

Okay. I take it back. Planet of the apes was just...ARGH!

Beetlejuice was pretty nice. I've seen that a million times in the past, but actually not for quite a long time now.

After watching the original series, you just can't watch Burton's. THE ENDING!! OMG!!
faints

I do wanted to ask if I should go fro Dark shadows or sleepy hollow.

3:52 PM
Planet of the Apes wasn't really that bad. Maybe not the best of the series, but way better than the internet wants me to think it was.

I have time for only one tim film

@NapoleonWilson I wasn't serious about asking that question. I only said something about it because you guys just told me about the Jack Napier thing. That's all.

@NapoleonWilson Agreed but the reboot made me forget it more as his version was not as good as new one or the original one

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was largely boring and a little too fairytalish again. But I also don't have the cultural connection to the book or Roald Dahl in general.
@steelerfan Hmm, too bad, could have been a great question.

@NapoleonWilson Did you watch the original series? With Charlton Heston?

3:54 PM
@steelerfan Partly.

@NapoleonWilson I guess ;)

I never liked the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so I can't blame Tim for it

I haven't seen Dark Shadows or any of his puppet things.

So all in all, yeah, "hit and miss" fits quite well.

3:56 PM
@NapoleonWilson Well, I love the original series. I have seen it many times. The Burton movie just ruins it. The new reboots with James Franco are really good, though.

I think he's just a little overrated. But I gotta give him that he certainly has a unique style and kind of stories he tells. I might not like everything, but he has a signature that's recognizable and not every director has that.
@steelerfan I have seen the first one ages ago and maybe the second. But I don't think I ever saw the following ones.

@NapoleonWilson Sure :)

Isn't there even one where they travel back in time?

@NapoleonWilson Yep. It's the third or fourth one, I believe. They're really good for how old they are. I have the whole series on DVD.

user132126
Which Planet of the Apes are we talking about?

user132126
4:00 PM
Heston, Wahlberg, Franco?

user116211
Oh! Do you know guys that The Chronicles of Narnia franchise is returning with the Silver Chair?

@CreationEdge All of 'em!

I dressed up as Dr. Zaius for Halloween one year. Even though he's a boy ;)

@MAFIA36790 Uhuh.

user132126
4:00 PM
No series has ever lasted past Dawn Treader

user132126
I love the new Apes movies.

@CreationEdge We don't talk about the Wahlberg one ;)

@steelerfan Hehe!

user132126
The Wahlberg one was really enjoyable when it came out.

@steelerfan I did.
See!

4:01 PM
@NapoleonWilson I know. I was joking ;)

@steelerfan I know.

@CreationEdge Grrr... with that ending? WUT?

@MAFIA36790 I think they have many books to adapt but what is silver chair

user132126
@steelerfan That ending... with no sequel... I dunno. If they'd been able to do a follow-up, maybe.

@steelerfan The ending was totes cool! It blew me away. (Even though it was complete bullshit.)

4:02 PM
@CreationEdge Yeah. They're great. The Wahlberg one...ugh.

@CreationEdge Wrong.

user132126
But out of nowhere, no explanation? It was crazy, but... I dunno.

user132126
@Randal'Thor That musta been the one I meant. I knew it was something.

@CreationEdge follow-up was supposed to come I think

@NapoleonWilson It's because you're not a fan of the original series. Kinda like why die hard Star Wars fans hate the prequels.

4:03 PM
@CreationEdge I watched that one ... oh, about 15 years ago.

user132126
The original series was terribly dull.

@steelerfan Hmm, maybe.

Uff don't start star war prequel hate now

@CreationEdge Yeah. I would have been fine had it been explained more.

4:04 PM
But I found the whole turn pretty cool, that it was the intelligent apes from the crashed spaceship and that they flew through some time channel.

WTF, Tom Baker as Puddleglum? The Tom Baker?
Maybe I should rewatch.

@NapoleonWilson Uhuh

I do think original story was good and Tim's version was bleh, movie was just ok. New series is also good
@Randal'Thor What?

user132126
Old movies are too slow for me. So little happens in such a long time.

user132126
Now I must read. bbl

4 mins ago, by Rand al'Thor
@CreationEdge Wrong.

@AnkitSharma You've seen the original?
@AnkitSharma I don't hate the prequels...because I am not a die hard Star Wars fan ;)
@Randal'Thor Hey buddy! Are you in here hiding from giphy? ;)

@steelerfan No, I came in because CE mentioned Narnia.
But hello! :-)

Meh.
Always stayed a rather poor Lord of the Rings catchupper to me.
And those kids from the first movie were somehow assholes, or some of them at least.

@Randal'Thor I read the original series as a kid. I didn't really like the movies, though. Actually, I only saw the first one.

@steelerfan Yeah, I read enough about the (relatively recent, US-made) films to know not to watch them. The BBC TV series were better, but as usual the only really good option is to stick with the books.

user116211
4:16 PM
@steelerfan I liked the first two ones; the third was okay; although they are not to my heart ;)

@NapoleonWilson So, LotR was written before The Lion, the witch and the Wardrobe?

@steelerfan I don't know. Me talks about movies here.

user116211
there are seven novels in the series, AFAIR. I posses four of them; last read in 2009.

@steelerfan Partially but i know whole story

@MAFIA36790 Yeah, they were good. I didn't read them by choice, mind you. We had to read them in school ;)

4:17 PM
@steelerfan I like none of SW to be frank
@Randal'Thor You are narnia fan O,o

And since I've heard it's supposed to be serious Christian propaganda, maybe it's not something that ought to be read necessarily.

@NapoleonWilson If you've only seen the films, then you don't really know anything about the Narnia series, I'm afraid.

@Randal'Thor And I wasn't postulating to do so anyway. Thus no need to be afraid.

@Randal'Thor Well, according to Napoleon, it's a knock off of LotR which makes me want to jump out of a window ;)

@NapoleonWilson They were written around the same time, but it's undeniable that a lot more effort and worldbuilding went into LotR than Narnia.

4:19 PM
@steelerfan Is there any chance you have, like your fellow chatters, somehow misunderstood how I was talking about the films there?

@NapoleonWilson Really? Wut? I don't remember anything like that.

Narnia is more comparable to the Hobbit in its writing style, perhaps, though it does explore deeper concepts.

@steelerfan Dunno, 's wadda got told.

@NapoleonWilson No, I understood you. I was only joking around...again ;)

@steelerfan Ok, so the joke was based on the premise that I didn't talk about the movies there. ;-)

user116211
4:20 PM
@steelerfan oh; talking about school, we had to read Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, Robinson Crusoe and few stories of Detective Poirot as a side-reader ;)

And the films were sailing on the Lord of the Rings hype, as are all the other current loroftheringizations of fairy tales released every day.

@NapoleonWilson Not 'propaganda', no. There are some themes which could definitely be interpreted as Christian, although tropes like the martyr god are much older and wider than Christianity, and proper confirmation of the Christian connection is only provided by the author later on, not in the books themselves.

C.S. Lewis is a devout Christian, isn't he?
@NapoleonWilson I don't even know anymore, Napoleon. I was just joking around about your LotR and Narnia reference. That's all.

@steelerfan Me too, don't worry. ;-)

@steelerfan Lewis was only converted to Christianity by Tolkien. Tolkien was a devout Catholic; I believe Lewis was less devoted to Christianity and more open to considering it as only one of a family of religions which share similar concepts and beliefs.
Food time. BBIAB.

4:27 PM
@MAFIA36790 Yep! We had to read A tale of two cities and Great Expectations.
@Randal'Thor Seriously? OMG. How interesting. It's just interesting to me that they are both writers of fantasy and they are devout Christians/Catholics.

Anyway, bye.

@NapoleonWilson Have fun!

I'll try to.

My nephew and niece weren't allowed to play "Harry Potter" at recess when they were younger because they go to a private Catholic school and it deals with magic. Grrrr...
@NapoleonWilson WELL DO IT!! ;))

user116211
4:34 PM
@steelerfan Do they take magic as taboo?

@MAFIA36790 Yeah, it's crazy. The kids would get in trouble for waving their hands and putting "spells" on other kids just playing on recess...we wouldn't want the kids using their imaginations or anything ;)

user116211
sounds horrible.

I guess that we are all supposed to believe in immaculate conception and the dead rising from the grave after 3 days, but we can't believe in magic ;)
@MAFIA36790 Yeah. My sister pitched an absolute fit. She took it to the school board and everything. She's kinda stubborn ;)

user116211
@steelerfan Many actions of them seems to be inexplicable to me.

user116211
@steelerfan Then? Did they respond with some valid reasoning?

4:40 PM
@MAFIA36790 Well, my sister used the immaculate conception and Jesus rising from the dead as her back up and children using their imagination. She had a lot of support from other parents. They lifted it. The kids can play magic, now. They don't go to that school anymore, but still.

user116211
@steelerfan great.

Actually, this new pope is really cool and laid back and has an open mind...which is great!

user116211
@steelerfan Rocky great ;P

@MAFIA36790 Oh, WOW! Well, I am not a Catholic, but if I were, I would say "Rocky" great! My sister is a Catholic and she absolutely loves him. My evil mother in law hates him, which makes me think that he is awesome!

user116211
As for the fact, Rocky is also Roman Catholic.

user116211
4:44 PM
@steelerfan She is evil ;(

Yeah, I guess he does have a Catholic wedding and the Priest blesses him before his fight with Apollo, he does the sign of the cross before each fight. You're right!

user116211
@steelerfan I'm as always ;)

@MAFIA36790 Yes. Yes she is. There is no other word to describe her.

So what is the topic now
Hopefully not narnia

@MAFIA36790 Hehehe! Hmmm...that could make for an interesting question. Rocky's Catholic origins. I guess he's from Philadelphia, so it's not too much of a mystery ;)
@AnkitSharma Catholicism, evil mother in law's and Rocky ;)

4:48 PM
Wow new episode of monster in law

user116211
@steelerfan He understands Italian too; although I don't remember he ever spoke in that language....

No. Nothing new. Just telling Mafia that she's evil ;)

user116211
Even MAFIA is of Sicily-Italian origin ;P

user116211
@AnkitSharma Indian common household soap-drama are pretty accustomed to that ;P

@MAFIA36790 Yes! You're right...again! ;)

4:51 PM
@MAFIA36790 hahahaha
@MAFIA36790 what?

@AnkitSharma I have changed my answer. It is Savdhaan India with 1687 episodes.

@AJ holy moly, so many

I don't understand this Necromancer badge. Is it for answering an old question or for a weekly topic challenge idea?

I used to like gumrah and MTv webbed more
@steelerfan former

@AnkitSharma Okay.

5:01 PM
@steelerfan ... it's not a coincidence.
You know about the Inklings?

@Randal'Thor No.

@steelerfan Yes!

@Randal'Thor Yeah, everyone seems to love him, except for close-minded evil people ;)

@steelerfan They were a group of writers in Oxford, including Tolkien, Lewis, and some others whose names I forget. They used to meet up in each other's college rooms or in a particular pub (I've been there) and read pieces of each other's writing, discuss it together, and so on.

user132126
@steelerfan Is there another new one, or the one that's been there a few years now?

5:04 PM
Lewis and Tolkien were close friends, so it's natural that they influenced each other's writing and even each other's religious beliefs.

@Randal'Thor OMG. Cool! I love hearing stuff like that! It's so interesting to me.
@CreationEdge He has been pope for a few years now.

I believe there's even an overlap between the universes some of their books are set in. IIRC, Lewis's That Hideous Strength contains references to Numenor, which of course is straight out of Tolkien's Middle-Earth mythos.
There's even a short foreword to That Hideous Strength saying something like "if you want to read more about Numenor, I refer you to the books of my friend Tolkien".
I haven't actually read THS yet - I'm still on Perelandra - so this is about as much as I know about the connection.

@Randal'Thor Ohhhh...interesting. I have not read Tolkien, but I don't remember there being any Christianity undertones or anything in the Narnia series. I don't know what in the heck Napoleon was talking about.

Q: Who are Sears and Roebuck mentioned in the Shawshank Redemption?

AnomalisaEarly in the movie, Red says: Yes, sir. I'm a regular Sears and Roebuck. Who is he referring to here?

@steelerfan Wellll ... god who saves his people by being sacrificed and then resurrected, who's also the son of the Emperor over the Sea, and sometimes takes the form of a lamb?

A: In-universe, is Aslan actually Jesus?

Jack B NimbleYes. There are a few quotes by C.S. Lewis relating to Aslan and Jesus. In a letter to a young girl named Sophia, Lewis writes, "I don't say. 'Let us represent Christ as Aslan.' I say, 'Supposing there was a world like Narnia, and supposing, like ours, it needed redemption, let us imagine wh...

@Randal'Thor Hmmm...I guess that I never made that connection. Perhaps because I was a kid. I don't know.
@Randal'Thor Are you saying that I have to say that Napoleon was right? Dammit! ;)

@steelerfan And since the book is aimed at kids, a large proportion of its target audience probably don't make that connection. I think it's a bit unfair to call it Christian propaganda as @Napoleon did - there is a Christian allegory there, but you can choose to ignore it if you're against Christianity.

@Randal'Thor Yeah, I guess that you would have to be looking for it to see it.

@Randal'Thor He can be Jesus as he don't give a shit what happen to everybody till the last five minute of the film and then he comes like god and fix everything

@steelerfan oh, yeh! the great MAFIA ;)))

@AnkitSharma harsh

But is it not truth?
He can fix any issue in start but let them all suffer for what?

@AnkitSharma Can he, though?

@MAFIA36790 Yeah. The Mafia. Ya know, they will shoot you in the back of the head and then go to mass and then go home and kiss their mothers...when "hitting" someone was still done with some class and dignity ;)

Didn't he have to die and be resurrected in order to gain the power to defeat the White Witch?
It's been a long time since I read it, admittedly.

5:43 PM
He can resurrect anyone, he can make tree into fighting monster, water into weapon
etc etc

I feel that Wad needs to be in on this conversation ;)

@Randal'Thor He died because someone had to sacrifice due to dumb jungle rule
@WadCheber ......

@AnkitSharma Are you sure we're talking about The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and not The Jungle Book? :-P

A mafia is a type of organized crime syndicate whose primary activities are protection racketeering, the arbitration of disputes between criminals, and the organizing and oversight of illegal agreements and transactions. Mafias often engage in secondary activities such as gambling, loan sharking, drug-trafficking, and fraud. The term was originally applied to the Sicilian Mafia, but has since expanded to encompass other organizations of similar methods and purpose, e.g., "the Russian Mafia" or "the Japanese Mafia". The term is applied informally by the press and public; the criminal organizations...

and then he resurrected because innocent can't be killed on that stone

Check the Sicilian Mafia, the original mafia group.

but he had those powers in himself before he died but he don't even fight

@AnkitSharma Sigh, now Wad will come in and rant about how terrible CS Lewis is :-(

I don't think he will come but lets see

@Randal'Thor Hehehe! Exactly!

@randal'thor I. Despise. Lewis.

@MAFIA36790 Wad just rants about that stuff. It's his thing ;)

I do think narnia story is bit dumb and made for kids to see talking animals in jungle messing around and waiting for lion god to fix stuff in end

5:47 PM
@Randal'Thor ohh.

@AnkitSharma ... I don't remember that. I wonder if the stupid bloody film-makers have been taking stupid liberties with the story.
2 hours ago, by Rand al'Thor
@NapoleonWilson If you've only seen the films, then you don't really know anything about the Narnia series, I'm afraid.

user116211
@AnkitSharma Maybe; but if you read the books, then you can get how good they are.

@AnkitSharma ^^ ;-)

@Randal'Thor SO that sacrificing stone in book doesn't have the line written on it which was the reason for his resurrection?

Right. The books are great in comparison to the movie(s)

5:50 PM
@MAFIA36790 I can't read books but I can criticize films because they are pretty dumb and if book have 50% of that story then it's also not sound good

user116211
The catch is that the language is extremely lucid and you don't need to keep a dictionary side by side ;)

@MAFIA36790 hahahahah, Dan brown made me pace dictionary next to novel and then i quit it
But I am not into novels , at best I can try graphic novel or comics

user116211
@AnkitSharma :D

@AnkitSharma ... Dan Brown's writing is extremely dumbed down. Try Tolkien some day ;-)
I thought your English was better than that.

Reading novel take too much time and full of boredom for me
@Randal'Thor I read that novel long long ago, my English was too terrible that time
Now it's less terrible

5:54 PM
Ah, 'k.

Time to watch Dark Shadow and I blame @steelerfan for it
Anyway where is your batman question ?? @steelerfan

user116211
BTW, did anyone see the Deadliest Warriors episode: Mafia vs Yakuza? This is one of the reasons why I admire the Mafias ;D

@AnkitSharma I'm working on it right now. I'm researching it, trying to figure out if I should mention this Joe Chill person who actually shot Bruce Wayne's parents. It takes me a long time to put a question together ;)
