Today at work came across the concept of representativeness of sample in Epidemiology. Naturally I end up looking at IJE resources and stumbled on a "Educator's Corner" paper title "Why representativeness should be avoided" by Rothman. Whoa, about 12 papers and back and forth and titles like "Rebuttal: When it comes to scientific inference, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar", and "Commentary: Epidemiologists have debated representativeness for more than 40 years—has the time come to move on?".
