@ErikDarling My vote goes for a Hiberno-French dual-Presidency Republic - we'd get all that lovely smelly cheese and they'd have cheaper Guinness (v. expensive there - "export..." - it is stonger than the Guinness in Ireland - so we might get more bang for our buck into the bargain?
@JoshDarnell If it's a short function, then maybe. Otherwise I end up having too go all the way through it to find out what that var is anyway. Plus I just like to be explicit.
There was a push, which was done without warning of course, to auto-upload and auto-update all the computers you log into with the files on your desktop via OneDrive. Guess my surprise when I logged into my build box and all of my build templates were gone and replaced with what was on my normal desktop.
@SeanGallardy "Otherwise I end up having too go all the way through it to find out what that var is anyway" - seems like you'd have the same problem in a big function whether using var or not. Also, you can hover over any mention of the variable to see its type.
I do understand wanting to be explicit. But that seems to be the main reason (style preference). I don't buy the other reasons people give for the most part.
:65402139 Not really, instead of
var myInterface = anotherLocalVar.GetData();
var myOtherItem = myInterface.SubmitItem();
var myData = myOtherItem.DoSomething();
@SeanGallardy The main thing I dislike about OneDrive in our environment is that I used to be able to type "documents" into the Run box (Windows + r) and it would open my documents folder. After enabling OneDrive, for some reason that doesn't work.
@SeanGallardy I thought about writing a .bat file that would essentially add it back, but then I kind of got used to just using the mouse like some kind of noob.
Or Paul.
@SeanGallardy Hey man, I think you're way over my head in a lot of areas. Writing filter drivers for fun, for instance.
I'm torn... on one hand, I want to write an answer to some questions... but on the other, it'll turn into a dissertation because some special user never marks answers and only keeps asking questions while arguing with you.
If someone keeps asking new questions that are basically the same as each other, then flag as a dupe of the best one (perhaps the one with the most/any answers)
Otherwise "comments are ephemeral and only exist for long enough to improve/clarify the question/answer"
@Criggie This person likes to do the opposite. Ask a few question in the OP, then leave comments on your answer asking new questions, quoting sentences out of context and then pretending like they can't read.
I have read a lot of articles about locking and locking hints. That resource and this one have a very helpful matrix of the compatibility of these modes. Very nice. It shows how Intent exclusive (IX) is not compatible with Shared with intent exclusive (SIX), Shared with intent exclusive (SIX) is ...
