@PaulWhite is the point of this similar to multiplying by 1.0 SELECT AVG(0E + Amount)?

@ErikDarling Yes 0E is a float literal, which has higher type precedence than the integer type of the Amount column. The result of the expression is a float, which avoids integer division problems computing the average.

thanks

> If an integer dividend is divided by an integer divisor, the result is an integer that has any fractional part of the result truncated.
Because I know you love all the mathematics

2:16 PM
did you mean to post that on the math stack exchange chat

good lord no, they're insane over there

i hear there's a ypercubecube

you think oracle dbas are grumpy
no ypercubeᵀᴹ is a rare example of a sensible and level-headed mathematician
exception proving the rule etc.

2:35 PM
@PaulWhite Oh, I'm aware. I'm just saying I didn't have a use case for ages.

2:46 PM
You should be more determined then

3:20 PM
on the off chance someone here knows about booting Linux via UEFI in Hyper-V, and wants some rep on unix.se - look here

2 hours later…
5:43 PM
Boris Johnson is one unrealistic mf

5:56 PM
anything new or just a general observation?

Is he hitting on the queen mother again?

I'm losing track of the number of Ministers and Secretaries who have resigned
A tinyint is starting to look like the wrong design choice here
On the bright side, I finished my tax return for this year 18 hours early

6:48 PM
did you win anything

if not being fined is winning then yes

i suppose
i was fined an additional 60k this year
that was fun

7:08 PM
are cabinet resignations a particularly dire sign in the UK? american presidential staff tends to turn over every year or two pretty heavily.

2 hours later…
8:49 PM
@ErikDarling yeah it's a different system completely
up to 39 resignations now

doesn't look like bojo is going quietly

nope

i know almost nothing about him other than what people complain about on twitter

well it's the usual love/hate dichotomy like everything else
but he has screwed a few things up lately
so for me it's more a question of basic competence and confidence
not that I get a vote
in the past, a few senior resignations citing a lack of confidence in the PM would be enough
easily enough, in fact
times seem to have changed over there
they probably went a bit early with the official vote of no-confidence a little while back
no way he'd survive that now, I'd wager
but I think the current rules only allow one of them per year
42 resignations now I'm hearing

@PaulWhite there is discussion/rumour that they may change that rule to allow for earlier 2nd confidence vote

9:01 PM
rule changes like that always come back to bite
turnabout in politics seems to be met with quite a bit of shock

@PaulWhite yeah....and look at what our embassy posted on twitter

@ypercubeᵀᴹ yes that would make sense

sigh they deleted it afterwards....clowns

I don't really get it
probably one of those young person's things
@ypercubeᵀᴹ better than the alternative of voting the government down as a whole and forcing a new election
for certain values of 'better'

@Lamak seems bad for diplomacy
> UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson fires Cabinet Minister Michael Gove

9:08 PM
picking up the pace

i didn't have any news in my twitter feed about this until it came up in this chat
i remember when people were considered paranoid for thinking the plant was listening to them

@PaulWhite and another guy resigns, protesting the firing of Gove
> Very sorry indeed to hear @michaelgove has been fired by the PM. As I told No 10 earlier today it should be the PM leaving office. I am resigning as PPS at @Dluhc.
the hilarious - to me at least - is that most of these resignations are announced first on Twitter

it's all very strange

> Soccer · Trending
> Activate the Queen

and I'll admit I don't even know the details of the latest trigger
something about a Pincher being a sex pest or something

9:13 PM
@PaulWhite sounds like an after delete trigger?

@PaulWhite yeah, and getting promoted

@ErikDarling a bulk delete at that

more like an instead-of trigger
if he doesn't go, I'll go

or a cascade delete

we're mixing metaphors here

9:14 PM
best way
just don't merge them
@ErikDarling yeah I suppose technically the Queen could sack BoJo
she won't though

why is that trending with soccer though

are you expecting Twitter trends to make sense or be consistent

the entire country should be run by people from millwall anyway
dunno why they bother with all these others

work in progress I suppose
Meanwhile, my Twitter trend section is showing:
> Ronan Keating 'nearly fell off his chair' after son Jack's blunder on Love Island

hard hitting journalism

9:19 PM
AI is completely broken

best twitter I saw today
> There must be an opportunity for someone to be appointed into the government and resign within the same press conference where they announce the appointment. So few people ever get the chance to do this. Please, Tory MPs: do the right thing. For comedy.

potential for a race condition

is ukraine still a thing
seems to have gotten buried

not today it seems
maybe ol' Z will raise a flag on snek island or something to get the focus back on

is Z friends with Q?

9:24 PM
does Q have weapons?

depends on how you classify memes
