@ypercubeᵀᴹ could you please post this in all chat rooms? :D

@dezso Sadly, even if we had globally pinned messages, it would hardly resolve the problem, because in the end everyone would still be going by their own definition of "seriousness"
Unless you also added, "By 'serious' I mean..." followed by a very detailed description.
@AndriyM that would be SEAGL

@dezso We he certainly got my vote
What do you guys & gals think of the new design for StackExchange sites?

@hot2use Quite compact and sensible. Not too much change
compared say to the CoC...
11:54
(CoC) seems by many to be a \1-up

Q: We're more aggressively enforcing self-moderation in chat

Tim PostWhile the timing of this post coincides with us expressing some serious concerns around how we're not doing a good job of helping and guiding Stack Overflow to remain a welcoming place for everyone, this is something that's been weighing heavily on our minds for quite some time, and applicable to...

General reminder.

@PaulWhite I am wondering if mentioning qronta is still accepted
@dezso I don't understand your question, can you clarify?
@PaulWhite have you tried to search for this wonderful term (thanks @gbn)?
@dezso I am busy doing other things.
@PaulWhite I cannot imagine that. However, chat.stackexchange.com/search?q=qronta&room=179

@gbn thank you

Hi
It's me
I cannot for the life of me find what the standards for performance testing is called...
The one that provides specific query complexities
Any ideas?
And then a wild Kermit appears...
See what happens when you stop doing database
YES!
Thank you :)
How's everyone doing

Preparing to watch the second semi-finals match, I guess
Well, some of them anyway

France was quite shady
@Kermit watching England beat Croatia!
@MaxVernon all my favorite teams are out
@Kermit that makes it less fun!
pretty sure England is screaming with joy right about now

Database suddenly ramped up to 100% CPU and we don't see any unusual load :/
@A_V is the sqlservr.exe process using all that CPU?
A_V
A_V
yes
I'm not sure what's wrong so I'm thinking of just restarting the database service. Classic noob trick which often works. I'd like to actually figure out what's wrong now though.
Probably a dumb question, but have you tried running sp_WhoIsActive or sp_BlitzFirst to see what queries / sessions are actively using so much CPU?
A_V

Wow it just ended after 1hour 30 minutes of 100% CPU
We did nothing
@jadarnel27 yes, we did look at all the metrics. Nothing was obviously blocking..
Many sessions were rotating as usual, no single process clogging up all the resources
I'm going to start logging sp_whoisactive results
Maybe someone put your server into power saver mode.
For an hour and a half.
For fun.
@A_V Which version of SQL Server (and CU)?
Ooh, a @Kermit
20:56
From what I've seen, the two best teams are in the final.
@Colin'tHart hey!
Just kidding

@A_V a plan was recompiled
And sql server figured out nested loops wasn't the way to go for your data

I used to have the 'query store' feature enabled to look that up
gives nice details of plans versions doing things
Just guessing

Oh.. Yes you're right.
I was a full time DBA in my last position but now we're supposedly paying for people to schedule patches and maintenances. Seems like you have to do everything yourself these days
Who knows how many bugs have been fixed in 11 months
@A_V Your problem could be unrelated of course but I'd suggest you schedule that ;)
Be wary of the dozens of kilobytes query store could potentially add to your transaction log usage.

Q: Add Licensing questions as off-topic on help/on-topic page?

RDFozzI've seen this question covering why we don't need to add an explicit VtC option to covering licensing questions. However, it would seem to make sense that, if we're going to close questions about licensing as off-topic, it might be worth including that fact on the What topics can I ask about? p...
